this is the Elephant Cafe and it borders a large elephant sanctuary and every day they choose a

couple elephants to leave the sanctuary and come hang out by the river you know there's

no chains or anything involved they hang out by this beautiful stretch of the river ping

and they have ample shade lots of water lots of food and if you want to have a coffee or a peach

Today we leave the spectacular Chiang Mai city and head 1 hour north to the region of Chiang Dao. Chiang Dao (still within Chiang Mai Province) is home to Thailand's 3rd highest mountain, however it is by far the 1st in terms of outstanding natural beauty and wonder. First we visit a very responsibly run cafe that homes elephants that hang out by the river adjacent to the cafe itself. The cafe's elephants are actually from the elephant sanctuary next door and the whole business is run with the elephants best interests at heart, for those looking for a very intimate and cheaper way to visit elephants in Thailand I recommend this place. Then we head further north to the base of Chiang Dao itself to enjoy one of the countries most spectacular and unique accommodations.
