00:00:06
probably the worst thing that could
00:00:08
happen to any of the crew members
00:00:10
on board is if one of them
00:00:12
ends up overboard if this happens
00:00:15
during the day and in the Mediterranean at the height of the
00:00:16
season then of course everything looks
00:00:18
quite optimistic if
00:00:19
this happens at night and in the
00:00:21
North Sea, the chances of salvation are
00:00:23
much less; what happens to a
00:00:25
person who ends up overboard;
00:00:27
naturally, first of all, it is shock;
00:00:29
hypothermia as a consequence of drowning;
00:00:32
danger from the traffic of other ships and
00:00:35
danger from sea inhabitants;
00:00:37
how can we prevent this
00:00:39
situation in the first place? of course, this is a
00:00:41
high-quality briefing before going to sea
00:00:44
about safety behavior on
00:00:46
board, the next thing is that we must always
00:00:49
be on deck, use life jackets,
00:00:51
use insurance and constantly
00:00:55
keep a watch,
00:00:56
but if all these nuances are observed,
00:00:58
then the chances of being overboard will be
00:01:00
much less, let's face the truth In
00:01:03
fact, charter companies claim that
00:01:05
they change life jackets very rarely,
00:01:07
this is due to the fact that if automatically it
00:01:10
still requires constant maintenance, then the
00:01:12
most ordinary life jacket can
00:01:15
exist in perfect condition, in
00:01:17
principle, throughout the charter life of the yacht,
00:01:19
what is this connected with, of course, it is connected with the
00:01:21
fact that most clients
00:01:23
simply they neglect to use a
00:01:25
lifejacket
00:01:26
why, of course, the yachting season is hot,
00:01:29
the sun in such a thick and uncomfortable
00:01:32
lifejacket will most likely suffice from
00:01:34
heatstroke and of course you will
00:01:37
probably worry all the time about the
00:01:38
quality of your tan
00:01:40
if it were some
00:01:42
cold sea for example the North Sea then
00:01:45
you would be happy to model this
00:01:46
life jacket because it gives
00:01:48
you additional protection from the wind it
00:01:49
warms you up so let’s look at a
00:01:51
standard situation in which everyone
00:01:53
naturally claims that they are good
00:01:54
swimmers and being overboard is
00:01:56
just a real holiday for them in such heat,
00:01:59
but what when a man accidentally
00:02:00
falls overboard for some reason, he begins to
00:02:02
panic and ends up drowning, so the topic of
00:02:05
today's lesson is a man overboard
00:02:07
under a motor,
00:02:08
there are several opinions on everything,
00:02:10
accordingly, several ways
00:02:11
to save a man overboard, we
00:02:14
will analyze the most popular and most convenient
00:02:16
scheme, this is called the Butakov maneuver
00:02:18
or he Williamson's turn, so first of all,
00:02:23
you need to
00:02:25
instruct the whole team,
00:02:27
you must completely distribute
00:02:28
responsibilities, explain who can
00:02:30
do what in this situation, I remember that the
00:02:33
moment one of you falls down
00:02:35
the fence, accordingly, there will be
00:02:36
one less person on the team, so
00:02:40
the same An important person near the helmsman
00:02:42
is the pointer,
00:02:44
also known as the peeler, this is the person
00:02:46
who constantly points to the
00:02:49
person who has fallen overboard, he constantly points his
00:02:52
finger at him and does not take his
00:02:54
eyes off him, his task is always to be in front of the
00:02:57
helmsman’s eyes so that he can see in
00:02:59
which direction he is pointing. person and
00:03:02
in the same way, if a person is,
00:03:03
for example, at the stern, then you
00:03:06
are accordingly in the cockpit and point back,
00:03:09
feed,
00:03:10
if the person is in front of you along
00:03:13
the way, then you go forward to the bow and
00:03:15
point the drift direction to the person
00:03:19
overboard if the person is already
00:03:21
along the yacht and passes along one of the
00:03:23
sides,
00:03:24
then, accordingly, along the inter should
00:03:26
pass along the side, points in the same way
00:03:29
to this person, if the helmsman
00:03:32
was the first to notice the person
00:03:34
overboard, then, accordingly, his task is to
00:03:37
assign a pointer with a date to say which of
00:03:39
you will now constantly point
00:03:41
because his task will be steer
00:03:43
the ship and I have
00:03:44
a feast, and your task will be to constantly
00:03:47
point to the person, regardless of
00:03:50
who was the first to notice that the person
00:03:52
overboard is the helmsman or one of the
00:03:53
crew members, the person who noticed it
00:03:56
first must shout out the
00:03:58
person overboard and be sure to say
00:04:00
from which on board, for example, a man
00:04:03
overboard on the left side,
00:04:04
this is very important because
00:04:06
our further actions
00:04:08
or a man overboard
00:04:10
on the right side will depend on this, regardless of
00:04:13
whether the helmsman was the first to notice the
00:04:15
person falling overboard or someone
00:04:18
else shouted a man overboard
00:04:19
his first priority action will
00:04:21
naturally be to protect a person from
00:04:23
falling under the propellers because at the
00:04:26
moment you are under the engine, it
00:04:28
is known that the person could fall, for example, during a
00:04:30
demolition, he plunged under the water, he was
00:04:33
pulled a little under the hull and he
00:04:35
could eventually pull you out somewhere in the
00:04:37
area of the
00:04:38
propellers, therefore his first actions
00:04:40
that he must always perform is
00:04:42
first of all to turn towards the person from the
00:04:45
side from which he fell out, for example on the right
00:04:47
side, he makes a turn
00:04:49
to the right, thereby moving karma away from him
00:04:52
and making it safer for him to
00:04:56
exit from under the hull and in exactly the same way at the
00:04:58
same time with this, puts the engine in the
00:05:00
neutral position,
00:05:02
thereby turning off the propellers; again, if a
00:05:05
person suddenly
00:05:06
gets there, then at least he will not be
00:05:09
harmed by these propellers.
00:05:10
Simultaneously with these actions, you
00:05:12
need to provide the person with a
00:05:13
watercraft, regardless of whether he
00:05:15
got a life jacket or
00:05:17
not, you must throw him any
00:05:19
saved means of affairs is that
00:05:21
the vest may simply not
00:05:23
open automatically, he may not activate it on
00:05:25
his own due to panic, in any
00:05:28
case, you need to throw him a
00:05:30
flotation device; at the moment
00:05:32
there is a huge number of different
00:05:35
floatation devices on the market that saves them from the
00:05:37
simplest life preserver to a
00:05:39
special automatic
00:05:41
small inflatable board
00:05:43
called johnyboy, you
00:05:45
just need to activate it, it
00:05:47
falls out of the stern, it automatically
00:05:49
rises wiha which has a light
00:05:51
signal and a person can figure it out, in
00:05:54
principle, stay afloat for a long time, the
00:05:57
following is necessary
00:05:59
to record the coordinates of
00:06:01
the person falling, the fence
00:06:02
accordingly you you can simply
00:06:03
write down these coordinates, or on all
00:06:06
practically modern Carpathians
00:06:07
there is a button for which on a bank transfer
00:06:09
map man overboard
00:06:10
by clicking on this button the Carpathians
00:06:13
automatically puts a point in this place
00:06:15
and no matter how you spin around it
00:06:17
will automatically transmit information to you
00:06:19
from the Carpathians of Iran
00:06:21
indicate devices constantly your course to this point
00:06:24
after that you must transmit the signal
00:06:26
pan-pan man overboard via radio, be sure to
00:06:29
prepare a first
00:06:31
aid kit and take it into the cockpit prepare a
00:06:34
gaff and prepare mooring lines in order
00:06:37
to lift a person onto the deck,
00:06:40
and this is very difficult to do in a small crew
00:06:42
distribute all responsibilities in advance,
00:06:45
therefore it is much better if the
00:06:47
captain simply instructs you on
00:06:49
the shore and tells the entire
00:06:51
procedure to the entire crew, and at the moment
00:06:54
when a person has already fallen overboard in this
00:06:57
situation, he assigns specifically which of
00:06:59
you should do what because
00:07:01
depending on who is the first to see,
00:07:03
for example, a person, he immediately automatically
00:07:05
becomes an interim, if you gave him
00:07:07
some other responsibilities before then
00:07:09
confusion may arise, so everyone
00:07:11
must fully understand the whole process and the
00:07:14
captain already appoints everyone separately at
00:07:17
the moment when the person fell overboard and
00:07:20
so on what are the features of the maneuver and what does
00:07:23
it look like at the moment when the helmsman
00:07:26
heard that a person is overboard, for example
00:07:28
on the starboard side, his immediate
00:07:31
automatic reaction is immediate
00:07:33
action, he turns the steering wheel towards the
00:07:36
person, that is, if a person fell
00:07:37
on the right side, then we turn
00:07:40
immediately to the right on the person and at the same time,
00:07:43
together with this action, we put the
00:07:45
engine in the neutral position,
00:07:46
which we do in this way, once again we
00:07:49
turn towards the person, we take
00:07:52
karma away from him and in that situation, if we
00:07:54
fell, for example, from the bow or the middle of the side,
00:07:57
then we do not get under the hull remains
00:08:00
to the side and in this way
00:08:03
will in no case be pulled under the yacht and he
00:08:05
certainly won’t get caught by the propellers.
00:08:07
Our next steps are that we need to
00:08:10
return to the same point as quickly as possible
00:08:13
and pick up a person
00:08:14
accordingly, in order to
00:08:17
turn around in the opposite direction we
00:08:19
also need to make such a maneuver in order to
00:08:21
extinguish, for example, an extra move and
00:08:24
stop completely, so it is
00:08:26
considered most effective after turning towards a
00:08:28
person by about 60 degrees
00:08:30
to turn in the opposite direction to exactly the
00:08:33
opposite course to the original one,
00:08:35
so we will return and go exactly
00:08:38
in the opposite direction to the person,
00:08:41
it turns out that the maneuver looks like
00:08:42
approximately like this is the question?
00:08:45
at first we went in one direction and then
00:08:47
returned back in this situation,
00:08:50
naturally all the hope is that the
00:08:53
pointer interface constantly points us to where the
00:08:56
person is at the moment and the
00:08:58
helmsman will naturally be primarily
00:08:59
guided by his
00:09:01
actions, so the pointer shows and we
00:09:04
continue to move towards to a person,
00:09:06
when we turn in the opposite
00:09:08
direction, most likely we will lose our move; the
00:09:11
helmsman’s task is to control the speed
00:09:14
and see whether this speed is enough
00:09:16
to approach the person or,
00:09:18
on the contrary, it is excessive; if this speed is
00:09:21
enough, then we continue to
00:09:22
move in neutral;
00:09:24
if it is excessive, then we can turn on the
00:09:26
slow speed back and thereby rest
00:09:28
our inertia, if on the contrary it is not enough,
00:09:31
then we can temporarily turn on the low speed
00:09:33
forward and then return it to
00:09:36
neutral again and already pick up a person at a
00:09:39
minimum speed equal to almost
00:09:41
zero,
00:09:42
now our task with you is to lift the
00:09:44
person on board means at the moment
00:09:46
when we have already come close to you and me,
00:09:49
there are two options for the development of events,
00:09:50
the first is if the person is
00:09:53
conscious, then we can simply give him the
00:09:55
free end, he can pick it up,
00:09:58
it may turn out to be a
00:10:00
gazebo knot around him and along the
00:10:02
leeward side we gradually
00:10:04
bring mine to
00:10:06
and raise the set why along the
00:10:09
leeward side because our
00:10:10
task with you is to put the person’s yacht in
00:10:13
such a position so that the
00:10:14
yacht gradually drifts towards the person they are away
00:10:17
from him because otherwise he will
00:10:19
constantly move away from us
00:10:21
if the person is unconscious then in
00:10:24
this situation you and I can take a
00:10:25
vagar, hook it up with a
00:10:28
life jacket with a hook and in the same way along the
00:10:31
leeward side bring it to the stern and
00:10:33
lift it from the stern to the side; in
00:10:36
fact, everything very much depends on the height of
00:10:39
the side; everything very much depends in general on the
00:10:41
hull of the yacht because if we have an
00:10:43
open stern like ours, then in principle
00:10:45
it is very convenient to pick up karmas, but if
00:10:48
we had a closed stern then it would be a
00:10:50
completely different procedure,
00:10:52
we would probably even have to
00:10:54
lift it right from the side, but the most
00:10:56
important thing is that at the moment when you
00:10:59
and I are already lifting a person on board, the
00:11:01
helmsman’s task is to constantly control
00:11:04
so that our speed is equal to zero; the
00:11:07
speed relative to the water can
00:11:10
carry us along with the person a little; we
00:11:12
can drift together; there’s
00:11:14
nothing wrong with that; the main thing is that the
00:11:16
speed relative to the water is
00:11:17
zero; only then we we will be able to
00:11:20
lift it quite comfortably and calmly if
00:11:23
we have some speed there, one and a half to
00:11:25
two knots, then in the end we may end up with not a
00:11:28
single person overboard and as many as 2;
00:11:30
someone will try to lift him up, they
00:11:32
may end up overboard with him
00:11:35
and so the most important thing is that each
00:11:38
of us can be a person
00:11:40
overboard, so we all must understand
00:11:42
how we should behave when we find ourselves
00:11:44
overboard, which means the most important thing is if we
00:11:47
fall overboard, the life jacket is
00:11:49
our task; the automatic life jacket
00:11:52
opens independently; if it does not
00:11:53
open,
00:11:54
we pull the pin semi-automatic,
00:11:56
of course, we always pull and
00:11:58
activate it ourselves if we have
00:12:00
such a simple lifejacket fell overboard, we
00:12:02
take out the whistle and sound the sound
00:12:05
signals if you fell out without a
00:12:08
lifejacket and accordingly they threw out
00:12:11
some kind of watercraft, your task is to
00:12:13
get to this watercraft as quickly as possible
00:12:15
and stay in place but it is
00:12:18
very important that you can evaluate your
00:12:20
strengths and capabilities, it should be that if there is a
00:12:22
really strong wind, then whatever
00:12:24
watercraft is thrown at you, most
00:12:26
likely it will simply be blown away
00:12:28
and you will not be able to catch up with it, so
00:12:30
it is better to stay in place, save
00:12:34
energy, save strength and just wait for
00:12:37
you they will pick you up, so when you
00:12:40
fall overboard, the main rule
00:12:42
is to stay in place, don’t
00:12:44
try to catch up with the yacht, don’t try to
00:12:47
whip towards it somehow to shorten
00:12:49
the distance,
00:12:50
I will always do the maneuver it needs and
00:12:52
pick you up, just stay in place and
00:12:55
give sound signals at the moment
00:12:58
when the yacht is already comes close to you,
00:13:01
that is, right with your nose, you can simply
00:13:04
put your hands like this to
00:13:06
your face and carefully slide along
00:13:08
one of the sides
00:13:10
and simply protect your face if the yacht
00:13:13
has some kind of move, but most likely the
00:13:14
team will do everything right, the yacht will be
00:13:16
on minimum progress and you just
00:13:18
have to take the damn thing, you need to remember
00:13:21
these rules, you need to
00:13:24
instruct your entire team on
00:13:25
this topic, but the most important thing is you need to
00:13:28
follow all the safety rules and under
00:13:32
no circumstances end up overboard. Now you and I
00:13:35
will just practice with a trance like
00:13:37
this so we have prepared a loop on it, we
00:13:39
will tie another bay, it will act as a
00:13:41
floating anchor, so we will simply
00:13:43
throw it extremely overboard, we will work out the
00:13:46
entire procedure, it turns out that you and I have an
00:13:48
unconscious person, he
00:13:50
cannot independently grab onto
00:13:52
the hook or the rope, so we will
00:13:55
hook up and carry out along the side and
00:13:58
then lift from the stern so let's
00:14:01
all take our places and get ready for
00:14:05
training, well, let's try
00:14:08
a person overboard us on the starboard side so
00:14:13
turn 60 degrees and turn in the
00:14:19
opposite direction like this the yacht
00:14:26
immediately dishonestly loses speed after this
00:14:29
turn
00:14:32
the pointer moves on the forecastle like
00:14:39
this, perfect so that the helmsman
00:14:43
can see you all the time, we monitor the speed, the
00:14:52
minimum speed is gradually
00:14:54
approaching
00:14:55
and immediately determine which side you and I
00:14:57
will have
00:14:59
leeward, which side is the windward side of
00:15:01
this situation, the starboard side is
00:15:03
leeward, so we leave the person
00:15:06
on the starboard side maybe a little to the right, closer
00:15:08
to the person, we walk perfectly together with the
00:15:12
person along the side, small stroke back,
00:15:23
speed 0 and lift him on board,
00:15:26
lift him on board, it
00:15:32
turned out great, so every time
00:15:34
you go on a charter, be sure to give
00:15:36
your crew instructions on the
00:15:38
man overboard procedure under the engine,
00:15:40
practice this together with trance,
00:15:43
usually in a closed bay with little
00:15:44
wind and not a big wave, in
00:15:47
order to gradually increase your
00:15:49
skills, we will show you how this is done with a
00:15:52
real person, naturally we
00:15:54
will not forgive a person for jumping out of a demolition
00:15:56
because it is really not
00:15:58
safe, he can simply
00:15:59
get caught under the screws, but since one of the
00:16:02
main reasons for actually falling overboard
00:16:04
is the situation with
00:16:06
simply unfastened neurama, then you and I are staging
00:16:11
just this case, well, if you
00:16:13
are ready, you
00:16:14
are ready, let's go, the watercraft
00:16:23
is fine, although via the inter, press the traffic police button
00:16:28
to get the hook on the stove,
00:16:30
super Naturally, we need to
00:16:33
prepare the
00:16:39
free end in order to pick up the
00:16:42
person already on board
00:17:09
so we leave the person naturally on the
00:17:13
leeward side, the minimum
00:17:16
attack speed is excellent and get to the
00:17:25
stairs
00:17:31
Paul give your hand come on give your hand
00:17:42
excellent super man is saved after
00:17:47
you have lifted the person on board you
00:17:48
need check whether he is conscious, be
00:17:51
sure to check his pulse and
00:17:53
breathing, if necessary, of
00:17:54
course, provide him with first aid,
00:17:56
I hope that this situation has never happened to you in real life,
00:17:59
but in
00:18:01
any case, you must be prepared, the
00:18:03
team must be instructed and
00:18:05
all maneuvers must be worked out
00:18:07
repeatedly to save the
00:18:09
fender, how a man overboard is saved
00:18:12
under sail, we will tell you in our
00:18:14
next story, so see you again
