we're going to build a forge i've always

thought it'd be super cool to be able to

so i want to make a forge but i want to

make it in the cheapest possible way

because i don't want to speak a bunch of

money into it and then realize

i actually don't like doing it i already

knew i liked woodworking and that's why

i sunk a bunch of money into woodworking

you might scratch your head about me

making a forge out of wood but it is a

tested process it is an actual method of

forging i don't remember what

the style of forge is called i'll put it

do the research that i need to do but i

do know the basics of how to make this

thing first i need to make a box i'm

going to fill the box with

mud let it dry and then i need to have a

this is going to be a coal forge or a

and then i'm going to make a very simple

so let's get started i did have footage

of me explaining what i've done but it

but all i did was cut two by fours to

and i'm just screwing them together to

create a box

this is where those one foot sections

come in so that i'll have a channel

for our piece of metal to go into

uh these were a foot i cut them down

another three inches so we have a six

on this side going to go ahead and put

moving the air hose on my shop vac i can

pump a tremendous amount of oxygen into

that fire and that's going to get us to

the temperature that we need

now it's time for a test run

and you can see the change in

temperature as soon as i turn on the air

and with wood a very inefficient fuel i

was able to get steel to temperature

so now that we have the forge working as

you can see i put some legs on it

but now that we have that working i need

to work on the anvil i believe this is

called a striking anvil basically i'm

just going to put legs

on this big chunk of steel and that'll

work as an anvil

just something hard that i can smack

against i quickly screwed together some

and attached my chunk of steel

now it's time for a test run

talk about mistakes

first mistake was not putting it on legs

to begin with it's far too heavy to move

so i had to like kind of pick it up and

waddle it over to

the legs that i built for it later on

i didn't make that channel through the

dirt exactly how i wanted it

so i'm not quite sure how the fire

bricks that i have on order are going to

fit into it but that's easily fixed
