The Holland Brothers and Lamont Dozier incorporated rock and roll into their signature style and gave the Supremes an edgier sound that appealed to radio listeners everywhere. Look at all that big hair and those long elegant dresses on those women! Berry Gordy knew that to get his artists across he had to help them attain the social graces and established the Motown charm school to help them. Yes, the sound of Young America was also the look of Young America. I chose this one for Motown Monday as the group was still known as "The Supremes" a name that Florence Ballard chose as she was the one who organized the group with Mary Wilson and then Mary brought Diana along. While there was a bit of apprehension their name sounded too masculine, it quickly disappeared as the women made the name their own and gave a new definition to supreme.
