Maman me tient la main et marche avec moi. “Je suis grande maintenant,” je lui dis. “Lâche-moi, lâche-moi!” Maman me tient la main très fort. Il y a beaucoup d'enfants près de ma nouvelle école. Certains viennent en car. Certains viennent en voiture. D'autres viennent en tuk-tuk. Quelques-uns d'entre eux arrivent à vélo. Et certains marchent, comme moi. Lorsque nous atteignons le portail, Maman me lâche la main. Elle reste au portail, je dois donc y aller seule. Il y a tellement de nouveaux visages tout autour de moi! Je fais un pas. Je fais un autre pas. Je regarde en arrière. Maman devient de plus en plus petite comme je m'éloigne. Va-t-elle disparaître? Je reviens à ses côtés en courant. Je ne me sens plus si grande. Je lui tiens la main. “S'il te plaît, ne pars pas,” je lui dis. Tout le monde sauf moi est maintenant à l'intérieur. Je suis la seule à l'extérieur. Le professeur sort et me sourit. Je lui souris aussi. Maman dit: “Rani, je serai là quand tu sortiras.” Je lâche sa main, et elle me dit au revoir.
