The team believes that the fact that these pits are shaded from the Sun allows them to maintain a constant human-friendly temperature, retaining heat at night while shielding against excessive heat during the day. Researchers are already devising methods to use robots and drones to investigate these probable lava tunnels on the lunar surface. The European Space Agency is also investigating methods of discovering the Moon's underground mysteries, ranging from remotely controlled vehicles to crewed missions.
