Holiday Island sailed 100 kilometers to the eastern end of the strait and began operating under the flag of Northumberland Ferries that same month, replacing two smaller ferries. In 2016, Holiday Island was decommissioned and sent to a shipyard in Quebec for necessary repairs after significant corrosion was found in the ballast tanks. In early October 2016, Holiday Island arrived in the Wood Islands. On July 22, 2022, a fire broke out in the engine room aboard Holiday Island as it was approaching Wood Island Harbor. More than 200 people were evacuated on lifeboats and other vessels. There were no reports of injuries. All ferry departures were canceled for the next four days. Initial firefighting efforts were abandoned due to overcaution for the fire brigade. On July 23, a tug towed the ferry to allow the Confederate access to the harbor and restart ferry service. Images of the ferry from 23 July show a slight list to starboard as the holds were reported to have filled with water as a result of the firefighting. On the afternoon of July 24, the crew began removing vehicles from the ferry. As Holiday Island is closed until the end of the 2022 season, another ferry, Saaremaa-1, was leased to Northumberland Ferries in early August.
