1973 Lamborghini Espada 400 GT  2dr Coupe 12-cyl. 3929cc/350hp 6x2bbl Weber Restored in Italy by Valentino Balboni Chassis number: 9824 Engine number: 41500 Transmission: 5-Speed Manual Exterior color: Argento (Silver) Interior color: Senape leather The Story On This Espada #9824   This Lamborghini was restored at Automobili Lamborghini Service Department and Restoration Center by Valentino Balboni (Lamborghini Expert) in Bologna, Italy.  The restoration on this Espada was completed in December 2008.  All receipts are from Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A.   This car is coming out of an amazing car collection.  The owner was a very knowledgeable and extremely passionate car collector.  He only bought the best of the best and made sure each car was up to top standards.  He always wanted to own a Lamborghini Espada so he contacted Valentino Balboni directly. He hired him to find the perfect car and restore it to the highest standards. I have emails back and forth with the owner and Valentino spelling out the entire process of this car.  It is absolutely amazing to read.  All records will be going with the car to the lucky new owners. This car was originally an US Spec that was owned by a businessman in Madrid, Spain.  The car sat in a storage facility for approximately 20 years until Valentino Balboni hunted the car down and acquired it for the American Car Collector. This Espada was then expedited to the Lamborghini Service department in Bologna, Italy.  This is where the two-year ground up restoration was done, to factory standards, to become a factory certified restoration.  Over those two years there are emails back and forth on the process.  The owner took V.B. advice to install a $4,049.40 Jarama “S” exhaust system to add more power and to emphasize the sound of that beautiful 12-cylinder engine. All of the road test were done by Valentino Balboni, himself, to make sure the car was up to Lamborghini’s standards.   Most restorations on cars are done by restoration shops all over the world specializing in many different types of cars.  The owner of this car, being a very serious collector and a numerous car show winner, didn't want take any risks in the restoration process. The benefit of this one being done at the Lamborghini Factory is that it was done right.  It takes only one drive in this car to understand that.  This car drives like a dream and the sound it makes is absolutely amazing. Valentino Balboni notes in an email to the owner during his road test with this Espada... “The sound of the twelve in general with the new exhaust system is amazing, fantastic.” -VB Model Overview Lamborghini finally offered a proper four-seat GT as a replacement for the 400GT 2+2 when the Espada appeared at the Geneva show in 1968.  This new Gandini-designed coupe amazed show goers with its lengthy and low proportions, as well as its likeness to two previous Bertone show cars, the Piranha and the ill-fated Marzal that Lamborghini had unveiled a year prior. The new Espada legitimately had room for four occupants, unlike post 2+2s of the day, and it was powered by the familiar 3929-cc Weber-carbureted V-12 that made 350 hp.  The package could run across the continent at 155 mph.  In-period reviews of the Espada commended it for its interior appointments as well as an independent suspension that made for a very stable platform well into the 130 mph range; it was the perfect conveyance for shortening the journey between cites in Europe.  This is a unique opportunity to own a very rare 4-seater Lamborghini.  Car was just serviced and is ready to be enjoyed.
