Intro

Mercury is still the fastest planet, and Neptune the slowest one. But Mercury should be 9 times faster than Neptune.
0:58
See? The planets spin way, way faster than they turn around the Sun.
1:16
In the same way as for time, sizes are harmonized.
1:58
Here Earth and Moon have proportional sizes
2:14
For example, Mars is 55,7 millions kilometers from Earth at its closest.
2:49
Which is not really practical... And that is why all visualizations of the Solar System within a frame are more or less wrong
3:02
Imagine you are in a rocket ship that goes up to 300 000 000 km/h
4:33
Between Mars and Jupiter lies the Asteroid belt
6:44
Of course, this flight is also a cheat for all the planets are well aligned as it starts
6:56
Beyond Neptune lies the Kuiper Belt the kingdom of dwarf planets
7:34
Beyond it are scattered-disc objects, the biggest known so far being Eris.
7:44
Farther away begins the Oort Cloud from 14 billions km up to 3 000 billions km

Descrição:

The whole Solar System. Real Size. Real Scale. Real Time. Or about so... ----- My 7 years old son asks me to do a space video, showing the "real" sizes of the Solar System. While trying, I realize that it is actually impossible to show the System truly to scale, respecting sizes, distances, and times. That is something I've never realized so far. I then started to change the video from "making a real size Solar System" to "explaining why it is impossible to make a real size Solar System." So, here is the result! ----- I made the video only on After Effects, using only surface pictures of the planets. If you're interested in a tutorial on how to do this kind of video, please ask for it in the comments. Music by Bruno Delouzillière : https://soundcloud.com/bruno-dlz/sets ----- French version here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJadtYf9-oA&t=24s — Lors of comments ask about the time scale of the last part of the video. It is indeed km/h, but at a Time scale of 1 day = 2 seconds.
