Very few cars have seen as much history during their production cycle as the C3 Corvette - it lived through four Presidents, the Moon Landing, the end of the Vietnam War, and the birth of the Computer Age. By the time it was retired in 1982, it had been through quite a bit. More dramatically, it lived through the peak of the Muscle Car era, with unrestricted power and balls-to-the wall engines. Even the all-aluminum L-88 found a home in a few of these cars, which now trade in the million dollar range. That progressed very quickly to the Malaise era, with ultra-restricted engines and terrible horsepower ratings, including the lowest ever horsepower Corvette in 1975. The final incarnation saw the birth of the modern engine, with the infamous Crossfire fuel injection system. For a while, this generation - or at least the later versions - have gotten a bad rap amongst collectors and hot rodders alike. This is changing, as the looks of the car are aging very well, and it has become apparent that nothing else on the road looks like it. On top of that, the underpinnings, though antiquated, were very performance oriented at the time, and the car was designed to drive fast and handle well. What once seemed like an overdramatic design with vintage underpinnings is now starting to look cool and get attention, and that's a good thing - it deserves it.
