In 2005, a Roman-era cemetery was discovered in Driffield, England. All buried were adults, but all under 45 years old, and many appeared to have been decapitated, with most of the blows being delivered from behind when the victim was relatively motionless. Some had their heads resting on their chests or in their feet. A number of the skeletons bore signs of violent trauma as well as bites from predatory animals. In 2015, specialists examined the DNA of seven buried men. It turned out that 6 men were of European origin, but one was from the Middle East (Palestine, Jordan or Syria). Six were similar to the Welsh, but very different from other populations in the East of England. In addition, according to isotope analysis, some of the buried spent their childhood outside of Great Britain. The geneticists also found that six of the men had dark hair and brown eyes, but one was a blue-eyed blond. There are several versions explaining this: those buried were gladiators, soldiers, criminals or slaves. What do you think?
