A playthough of Philips' 1993 action-adventure game for the Philips CD-i, Link: The Faces of Evil. Link: The Faces of Evil was one of the first CD-i titles to be based on a Nintendo IP, shipping alongside its sibiling, Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M52zKfu-cHk%29%2C in 1993. In The Faces of Evil, a wizard named Gwonam has brought Link to the land of Koridai in order to fight Ganon, the demon who has taken over the small island kingdom and turned its people into monsters. But that's not all - once he arrives, Link also learns that Princess Zelda has been captured and has been put under a sleep spell. Like The Wand of Gamelon, The Faces of Evil is a 2D platformer that takes its inspiration from Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. The two games run on the same engine and play identically to the extent that Faces of Evil feels like a mere reskin of The Wand of Gamelon. The graphics, sound, and cutscenes are different, but the games feel like different sides of the same coin: the controls are just as awkward, the hit detection is just as inconsistent, and the movies are just as meme-worthy. This one doesn't feel like it got quite the attention that The Wand of Gamelon did, though. The story is less interesting, and the heavier emphasis on combat does not play to the game's *ahem* strengths. I am a fan of Link's voice work, though. It reminds me of the way JD Roth sounded on the GamePro TV show. Beyond that, there's not really much to say. It's basically the "boy version" of Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon.
