I was recently hired to create a One Take Fly-Through FPV Drone video for a medical imaging manufacturer in Stratford, CT. The marketing department had seen a few of the recent viral FPV drone videos used to showcase a bowling alley, shopping mall or wedding facility and wanted to showcase their new building that houses engineering, sales and manufacturing. The flight was pretty involved since they wanted the video to start in a glass atrium and staircase, fly upstairs into the office and sales departments and then return to the first floor and fly through the manufacturing and shipping departments and finishing outside with the signage on the front of the building. I visited the facility to walk through their shot list before deciding if this was something I was capable doing and to see if there were any limitations to my equipment seeing there would be lots of glass, metal and concrete to cause interference in my video feed and control link for the drone. On the day of the shoot I spent time flying in a small room that employees play ping pong in, it was also the furtherest room I would fly into from my piloting location inside a hallway near the staircase. I took about 8 practice flights in various parts of the building to see what were my best angles of entering and exiting an area. I did two "real" flights where employees were positioned in conference rooms, open office space, CEO office and the manufacturing area before exiting the loading dock area to fly outside. I was able to put together a quick edit of the final flight with some music to show the employees before they left for the day. The company was very pleased with the end result, so was I.
