Aired in The US and Canada on February 17, 1997, The Monkees Reunion Special actually had 3 titles! "The Monkees Special", "Hey Hey It's The Monkees" & a script title of "A Lizard Sunning Itself". Jokingly, it is called Episode 781 in the special. Written & Produced by Michael Nesmith and filmed in January of 1997. Ward Sylvester was listed as Supervising Producer. All four Monkees were listed as Executive Producers. It truly was a group effort with Peter spending hours mixing a producing the music (besides the "Justus" Tracks) including the fabulous Monkees Medley that appeared at the end. Micky was casting director. All of The Monkees had a hand in the script. The main goal was to have a show that showcased songs from their first album with all 4 members since 1968's "Head Soundtrack"! "Justus" was a major undertaking that the Monkees recorded in 1996 and was released with little fanfare and hardly any promotion from Rhino Records. The special basically picks up 30 years later after the final episode of the series in the 60's! The Monkees are now men in their 60's, still living in the beach house (which they actually own by now) Still living off gigs! It was a complete satire and reviews were mixed. It only aired one time! There have been rumblings about it getting a proper DVD/Blu Ray release for decades but nothing has come out of it but rumors. This recording I did personally on a Super VHS tape trying to get the best copy possible. In the case it never aired again! (Good thinking!) As all VHS tapes do, over time, they do suffer drop outs and slight picture distortion. Over-all, this looks and sounds great for a 20 year old video tape! It was well taken care of and I decided it was time to share it with all The Monkees fans! Hopefully it will not be removed as this is a major historical piece of Monkees history. I did teak the picture ever so slightly to enhance it and also, remastered the audio to bring it up to date and make it as enjoyable as possible. I hope that no one tries to profit off of this or any of my Monkees uploads! I do not water mark or ruin the picture to spite the counterfeiters but I did employ a video frame to hide any flagging that may make viewing less enjoyable. It will however be obvious to counterfeiters that my copy is unique in that fashion and with keep them from copying and selling on ioffer or other bootleg pages. I am posting this for free for all! Although I do not own this, it is said that the special is owned mainly by Michael Nesmith but Rhino does own a part. The music videos were done by an outside production company called "Sundae".
