different in a sense because you've got00:04:02
this material here it's quite rough and00:04:04
it sort of feels a bit like the defender00:04:06
where they've gone for that sort of a00:04:08
utilitarian a rugged sort of look up the00:04:10
top here you've got quite a um sort of00:04:13
robust surface as well so it's rubber00:04:15
but it looks like it's hard wearing it00:04:17
can take a few knocks as well i also00:04:19
like that they've broken up all of these00:04:21
colors with a little bit of piano black00:04:23
but then it sort of gets piano black00:04:25
overload down the bottom here but you've00:04:26
got these sort of brushed aluminium00:04:28
strips around the side so00:04:30
from a visual perspective i think it00:04:31
looks nice and it matches the price tag00:04:33
you don't feel bad about spending this00:04:34

more premium than the previous00:04:38
generation or the pre-facelift of the00:04:40

compared to the one we've experienced00:05:44

whether it gets a slower cpu or less00:05:48
memory or something like that but it00:05:49
just doesn't feel quite as quick as the00:05:52
one in the defender so00:05:53
putting that to one side though it comes00:05:55
loaded with technology so you have an00:05:57

and it's not quite as i guess new and00:07:42
flashy as something as the defender i00:07:44
don't feel it is anyway and i think this00:07:46
could do with a bit of an update to make00:07:47
it kind of a bit cooler like the audi00:07:49
virtual cockpit setup is and moving on00:07:51
to safety you've got a full suite of00:07:53
safety tech including00:07:55
an airbag kind of thing on the bonnet00:07:57
for pedestrian impact so it allows that00:07:59
to pop open if you do hit a pedestrian00:08:01

i haven't seen that before in any other00:08:04
cars but you also get autonomous00:08:05
emergency braking in forwards and00:08:07
reverse you get an auto dimming rear00:08:09

lane departure warning and a lane00:08:17
keeping assistant blind spot monitoring00:08:19

kind of a purpose-built car if you like00:08:55
going camping with the kids and stuff00:08:57

making these diesels far more i don't00:15:38

family friendly in the sense that00:15:41
they're not clattery they don't sound00:15:42
like an old truck and this one here is a00:15:45
two liter four-cylinder turbocharged00:15:47
diesel makes 150 kilowatts of power and00:15:50
430 newton meters of torque and it's00:15:52
about right for a car that weighs around00:15:54
that two-ton mark so it's not too little00:15:56
and it's not too much it really just00:15:58
sort of suits the character of the car00:15:59
and it's all mated to a nine-speed00:16:01
automatic transmission and a mild hybrid00:16:03
system as well that means when you come00:16:05
to a stop so i'm going to just roll down00:16:07
to a stop here you'll see as the speed00:16:09
gets lower it doesn't actually wait so00:16:11
it's off right now we're still sort of00:16:13
crawling along has an integrated starter00:16:15
generator and that means when i roll out00:16:16
of the brake you can barely feel it00:16:18
switching on and for a diesel that's00:16:20
really impressive and it means that you00:16:22
are able to slow down come to a stop00:16:24
roll out of the brake and then it takes00:16:25
off nice and smoothly now in terms of00:16:27
the feel behind the wheel so let's give00:16:29
it a little kick here00:16:31

skin off your face but uh and also the00:16:36
gearbox isn't massively quick as well00:16:39
but for the most part you can actually00:16:41
just lean on the throttle to rely on00:16:44

sort of00:16:48
sings along nicely so00:16:50
look it's it's not going to set any00:16:52
world records but i don't think you need00:16:53
a car like this to be overly quick just00:16:55
feels nice and placid and um i guess00:16:58
confidence inspiring behind the wheel00:17:00
one thing i did notice is how direct00:17:02
this steering is my goodness there's00:17:04
just a tiny input required and it really00:17:06
just darts through corners so it's not a00:17:09
bad thing it's just um00:17:10
something i've noticed that i thought00:17:12
was worth calling out let's talk fuel00:17:13
economy so land rover claims a combined00:17:15
average of 5.7 liters per 100 kilometers00:17:19
we are currently sitting on00:17:24
8.5 so it is higher than that figure00:17:28
this car's been doing a lot of city00:17:29
driving and we have been doing a bit of00:17:31
driving here around the proving grounds00:17:32
so it is sitting a little bit higher but00:17:34
still pretty commendable when you00:17:36
consider how big this is and the fact00:17:38
that you're probably going to be doing a00:17:39
whole lot of city driving anyway in00:17:41
terms of zero to 100 land rover says00:17:43
it'll take around 8.9 seconds we've put00:17:45
it up against our stopwatch and this is00:17:47
how it went00:18:01
in terms of visibility uh the driving00:18:03
position is actually really good so i00:18:04
can see clearly down the front there the00:18:06
wing mirrors could be a little bit00:18:07
bigger they're kind of small but you can00:18:10
get sort of decent vision down the side00:18:12
of the car you've got a blind spot00:18:13
monitor built into those visibility out00:18:15
the back is reasonable as well it will00:18:17
be a little more reduced if you do have00:18:18
the third row up but uh the sort of00:18:21
envelope there is big enough to see out00:18:22
of now in terms of drive modes we do00:18:24
have some four-wheel drive modes i'll00:18:26
run you through those in a second but we00:18:27
don't have any on-road drive modes aside00:18:30
from this sport mode so i'll pop that00:18:31
