if you ever wondered why every russian
00:01:39
weapon is a variant of the ak
00:01:41
go ahead and hit that subscribe button
00:01:43
guys like and comment the comment
00:01:45
section is how to control get in there
00:01:47
youtube will probably
00:01:49
shut me down over you guys but it will
00:01:52
be worth the biggest support of the
00:01:54
channel right now
00:01:55
brown house brownells is a huge

00:02:04
a big thank you to 80

arms and fair lambs faraday clothing go
00:02:09
check them out big thank you to them for
00:02:10
sponsoring this video ladies
00:02:13
and gentlemen my often forgotten most
00:02:14
certainly not by me
00:02:16
mp5s welcome to the channel today we're
00:02:18
going to be talking about a very
00:02:20
interesting
00:02:23
design and that is going to be the vts
00:02:26
or otherwise the kusa kp9
00:02:30
so this is a pretty interesting concept
00:02:33
and i'm not forgotten weapons i'm not
00:02:35
going to get into the history of it
00:02:36
other than to say
00:02:38
that the russians needed
00:02:40
something in a smaller caliber and a
00:02:43
submachine gun type weapon that would
00:02:45
work with nine millimeter that would be
00:02:47
good for police work or close quarters
00:02:49
work for special operations and
00:02:51
ultimately of those designs the vitiaz
00:02:54
came about
00:02:56
now of course why couldn't they just
00:02:58
adopt the mp5
00:03:00
well they're russians so of course it's
00:03:02
got to be some variant of the ak what's
00:03:04
very interesting about this design and
00:03:07
about the kp9 in general is that there
00:03:09
is a lot of parts commonality
00:03:12
with the ak-74 ak-100 series of rifles
00:03:16
we'll talk about that as we go through
00:03:17
it but what's going to be more important
00:03:20
is our full disclosure so what is my
00:03:22
relationship with kusa how did this
00:03:24
review come about so to be honest i
00:03:26
really wanted to get my hands on one of
00:03:28
these because i wanted to do a review
00:03:29
previously we did a review of the psa
00:03:31
akv
00:03:32
and a lot of people do consider this to
00:03:34
be a competitor to the psa akv so i
00:03:37
asked them if i could get this um
00:03:40
for review they sent one along
00:03:42
ammunition provided by barnals we have
00:03:44
about as of this time of this video
00:03:47
i want to say how many mica like three
00:03:50
three four three four thousand um i i've
00:03:52
ended up really liking this kind of full
00:03:54
disclosure on that but uh point is no
00:03:56
exchange of money uh weapon ammunitions
00:03:58
provided so that is that let's go ahead
00:04:01
let's get into this review let's talk
00:04:02
about what the hell we have going on
00:04:04
with this thing about how i have it set
00:04:06
up and uh we'll have some fun let's do
00:04:08
it
00:04:09
now before we get into this review
00:04:12
you should probably shoot it because
00:04:14
this is a very fun gun to shoot
00:04:26
so the kusa kp9 is a direct blowback
00:04:31
weapon it is chambered in nine
00:04:33
millimeter feeds from a proprietary
00:04:35
magazine that works with the yaz as well
00:04:37
and it is overall just a very cool
00:04:39
weapon so we're gonna do what the
00:04:42
marines love we're going to go tip to
00:04:44
buy so starting at the very tip right
00:04:46
here we have
00:04:48
we have our muzzle device so to be clear
00:04:51
um this is not the muzzle device that
00:04:54
comes with the weapon this is a delta
00:04:56
tech muzzle device and um
00:04:58
the
00:04:59
muscle device that does come with the
00:05:01
kp9 or the kr9 if you have the rifle
00:05:03
version um is the
00:05:05
pretty much an exact replica of what
00:05:07
comes with vityaz and that is kind of a
00:05:08
cool thing about it but we wanted to
00:05:11
include
00:05:12
some products are currently in use with
00:05:14
russian special operations so we use the
00:05:15
delta tech so the delta tech is
00:05:19
it is a flash hider and the question is
00:05:22
is why is that flash hider so big
00:05:24
because for example we have a flash
00:05:27
hider on this mp5 right there and this
00:05:29
does a very good job of keeping flash to
00:05:32
an absolute minimum so why is it big
00:05:34
well i mean the best way we can describe
00:05:36
it is with the meme it's just
00:05:38
russia you know if if small flash hydra
00:05:41
good
00:05:42
big flash hider much better and that's
00:05:45
pretty much what they that was a bad
00:05:46
impression that's pretty much what
00:05:48
happened to delta tech and it does do a
00:05:49
phenomenal job of complete and utter
00:05:52
flash elimination so if you want to come
00:05:54
in here and kind of take a closer look
00:05:56
at it
00:05:57
you can see that we have ports along the
00:05:58
sides you can see all the muzzle burns
00:06:00
coming out there
00:06:01
under nods this is a
00:06:04
zero emissions of muzzle flash uh type
00:06:06
weapon so it is very awesome to shoot
00:06:09
under nods um it is a very cool muscle
00:06:11
device um they're not too hard to get a
00:06:12
hold of so definitely go and check those
00:06:14
out now
00:06:15
one way that the kp9 does differ from
00:06:18
the vit vityaz is in of course the
00:06:20
thread pitch we have half by 28 on this
00:06:22
guy right here and on the russian
00:06:24
version we have their crazy russian
00:06:25
thread pitch which of course wouldn't be
00:06:27
very good for you guys because
00:06:29
that means none of your suppressors
00:06:30
would fit this and this is an awesome
00:06:33
awesome suppressor hosts so
00:06:35
i'm glad that they did not have a crazy
00:06:37
thread pitch so we have that there now
00:06:39
from there we have what looks like
00:06:42
a gas system and you would think so but
00:06:45
this is not a gas system because this is
00:06:47
a direct
00:06:48
blowback firearm so this is where it
00:06:49
gets really interesting in my mind
00:06:52
so this gas block is just there for the
00:06:54
front sight posts and of course for the
00:06:56
looks because this gas tube is not it is
00:06:59
a gas tube but is more of a guide for
00:07:01
the mass also off of the bolt carrier
00:07:04
group which is this the bolt bolt
00:07:06
carrier the mass on the front it's all
00:07:08
just one piece now
00:07:10
that might seem a little odd but the
00:07:13
fewer moving parts you have in a system
00:07:16
the more reliable that system is going
00:07:17
to be and one thing that you can say
00:07:19
about a simple blowback system
00:07:21
especially like the kp9 here is while
00:07:23
the recoil can be a little bit more
00:07:24
stout than say an mp5 or an npx
00:07:28
they are very very stupidly reliable
00:07:31
weapons because they are so simple so
00:07:33
what we're going to do here is i'm going
00:07:35
to go ahead and i'm going to pop up the
00:07:36
dust cover i'm going to show you what i
00:07:37
mean by this
00:07:40
so funny enough i know robski had a lot
00:07:42
of problems with his um ours unlocks
00:07:44
absolutely no problem so we have the
00:07:45
recoil spring right here um
00:07:47
ak recoil spring right good old russians
00:07:49
so we have that guy right there we of
00:07:51
course have our bolt carrier
00:07:53
and our bolt and as you can see right
00:07:54
there
00:07:56
not a normal system not a piston not gas
00:07:59
driven but simply mass added for a
00:08:02
direct blowback system the added mass of
00:08:04
course controls the speed of the recoil
00:08:06
which controls how quickly the weapon is
00:08:08
cycling and functioning
00:08:10
so beyond that we just have that guide
00:08:12
in there to ensure that everything is in
00:08:14
working order another thing you can look
00:08:16
at right here is i mentioned it before
00:08:18
but we have a
00:08:20
it's all one piece there's no separate
00:08:22
bolt this is all one solid piece
00:08:25
together that moves together and that is
00:08:26
a very
00:08:28
simple very reliable system so that's
00:08:30
what we got right there pretty cool
00:08:32
adds to the reliability but of course
00:08:34
it's not
00:08:35
quite
00:08:36
as easy on the recoil so what we can do
00:08:38
right right here is
00:08:40
the simple gas blowback system is
00:08:42
awesome however it is also
00:08:46
a little bit harsh on that recoil so
00:08:48
what we'll do right here is we will go
00:08:50
ahead and we will show that so
00:08:53
to show that recoil we'll have a special
00:08:55
guest come in here in just a moment
00:08:57
and he will show you
00:08:59
the differences between
00:09:00
the kp9
00:09:02
and the mp5
00:09:05
please be my guest
00:09:08
how many rounds do you want uh it could
00:09:09
be five
00:09:12
how'd it feel uh not too bad yeah pretty
00:09:15
pretty comfortable it's a good ride
00:09:17
all right let me know in the mp5
00:09:23
hung up on the last one but it's okay
00:09:27
you know the trigger's a little bit uh
00:09:29
a little bit not as good compared to the
00:09:31
kp9 how'd the recoil feel
00:09:34
recoil pattern for the mp5 much more
00:09:36
preferred does that uh trigger or the
00:09:38
trigger on the kp9 felt a lot better i
00:09:41
agree i agree thank you
00:09:43
so the mp5
00:09:44
very smooth recoil impulse and that is a
00:09:46
roller delayed system now pistol caliber
00:09:50
carbine is becoming a lot more popular
00:09:53
and there is a difference the mp5 sp5 in
00:09:56
this case from heckler and coke is a
00:09:58
really
00:09:59
good submachine gun and not a really
00:10:02
good pistol caliber carbine and the
00:10:04
reason for that isn't uh you know feel
00:10:06
or how it loads or anything that it
00:10:08
really comes down to the trigger so let
00:10:09
me explain for a moment the trigger
00:10:12
on the mp5
00:10:14
is pretty
00:10:15
slow overall it's a long pole and it
00:10:18
takes a lot to single fire rounds from
00:10:21
this sp5 now on full auto trigger really
00:10:24
doesn't [ __ ] matter you hold that
00:10:26
[ __ ] to the rear and that thing's just
00:10:27
going to let loose and on the mp5 with
00:10:28
such a smooth cyclic rate and as low as
00:10:32
the recoil is it's a phenomenal
00:10:34
phenomenal probably the best submachine
00:10:37
gun on the planet now when it comes to
00:10:39
it being a pcc terrible trigger sucks
00:10:42
now
00:10:43
with the kp9 the kp9 has an ak trigger
00:10:46
and honestly ak triggers are really
00:10:47
freaking good so what that means is when
00:10:50
i'm having to fire a round after round
00:10:51
that reset is super short and it's easy
00:10:54
to pull that trigger and i can run this
00:10:56
thing
00:10:57
so much faster than i can in sp5 so when
00:10:59
it comes to
00:11:00
differences between pccs and smgs and
00:11:03
whether a good submachine gun is a good
00:11:04
pcc not always because again like we
00:11:07
said before mp5 great sub machine gun
00:11:10
not the best pcc fit yaz probably good
00:11:13
at both but honestly if you're going to
00:11:14
be using it as a pcc
00:11:17
probably much better and that is why i
00:11:18
think that the kp9 is a better pistol
00:11:21
caliber carbine
00:11:22
candidate now going from all that let's
00:11:25
talk about how i had this guy set up and
00:11:27
what we have here so obviously we don't
00:11:28
have the original furniture so we're
00:11:30
going to pop up a little picture right
00:11:31
here of the original furniture that is
00:11:33
on the kp9 so obviously we have modified
00:11:35
it quite a bit
00:11:36
the normal kp9 furniture is fine it's
00:11:39
your typical ak-74 type furniture
00:11:42
no problems there but certainly it can
00:11:43
be upgraded like many other things and
00:11:45
of course you guys know that i love
00:11:47
zenitco so we do have zenico furniture
00:11:49
on this guy and it really does improve
00:11:52
the feel of the kp9 in my mind so with
00:11:56
the upper and lower right here and then
00:11:58
what we've done is because the surefire
00:12:01
light is both uh white light and ir
00:12:04
capable i have that kind of mounted
00:12:05
right up there and we have our pressure
00:12:07
pad from our light right here going to
00:12:10
the back of this grip right here so i
00:12:11
can activate that guy now as far as the
00:12:14
laser device this is a purse 4 this is
00:12:16
also from zenitco and i have that on the
00:12:19
side there to utilize for night vision
00:12:20
shooting i'm basically just tilting the
00:12:22
gun rolling the gun over and just
00:12:24
engaging on that button again it can get
00:12:26
a little bit dicey setting up a a laser
00:12:29
device any light on a very compact
00:12:32
system like this and this is kind of
00:12:33
what i've ended up liking quite a bit on
00:12:35
my kp9
00:12:37
now um you have to get you're gonna have
00:12:39
to find something that's going to work
00:12:40
for you but this is what has worked very
00:12:43
well for me now going back from here
00:12:45
here's where it gets really interesting
00:12:46
in my mind when it comes to the kp9 um
00:12:48
the vit yaz has several different
00:12:49
variants out there one of the variants
00:12:51
has a side rail right here from mounting
00:12:52
optics
00:12:53
as we know in the united states not a
00:12:56
lot of people are using side mounted
00:12:57
optics now on the kp9
00:13:00
they chose to use the top rail which is
00:13:02
riveted into place you know when i first
00:13:03
saw it i thought that there was no way
00:13:05
that was the way it was actually done in
00:13:06
the videos but sure enough it was and i
00:13:08
was very
00:13:10
skeptical that this thing would at all
00:13:13
hold zero but sure enough this is
00:13:16
perhaps
00:13:17
as of
00:13:18
this video being done probably one of
00:13:20
the more accurate pistol caliber
00:13:22
carbines that i've owned so to show that
00:13:24
we're gonna go ahead we're gonna step up
00:13:25
uh to about 120. we're gonna take some
00:13:27
shots on a steel silhouette and we're
00:13:29
gonna see how it does all right kp9 120
00:13:32
ip6 targets
00:13:52
cool
00:13:53
easy guys um this is a very capable
00:13:55
weapon we'll step up to the 80. we'll
00:13:57
take some shots on a couple different
00:13:58
targets to show you how that works all
00:14:00
right we're going to hit those three
00:14:01
targets just going across about 80 right
00:14:03
here
00:14:12
cool
00:14:22
easy
00:14:24
cool
00:14:30
i love this gun so when it comes to
00:14:31
optic rail um we have absolutely
00:14:34
no problems holding zero when our optic
00:14:37
is mounted now it also comes down to the
00:14:39
xeneco rail uh because that [ __ ] is
00:14:40
hammered straight into the receiver i
00:14:42
haven't had any drift of zero when it
00:14:43
comes to the laser or anything like that
00:14:45
a couple interesting things here uh a
00:14:48
weapon design is made or broken based
00:14:51
off of its magazines so when it comes to
00:14:54
the kusa the kp9 it is an exact replica
00:14:58
of the ass magazines and these are
00:15:00
polymer and they are still reinforced
00:15:02
and they're a pretty simple design
00:15:05
and they're extremely reliable um i've
00:15:08
had about 10 of these i did have one
00:15:10
brakes throughout the package but you
00:15:12
know manufacturing defects but all the
00:15:13
other ones
00:15:14
they've run absolutely very very well
00:15:17
you can also get the russian ones the
00:15:18
puff gun mags and those also run very
00:15:21
well but for me personally
00:15:23
i have no problems with the kusa
00:15:25
magazines the only thing i could
00:15:26
possibly
00:15:27
say about them is the fact that they are
00:15:29
a little bit pricey which kind of sucks
00:15:32
when it comes to this weapon
00:15:33
so that's kind of a that's kind of a
00:15:35
downer but what's good about reloads on
00:15:38
the kp9 as you can see right here
00:15:41
the magazine well
00:15:43
is beveled
00:15:44
so it is a very simple reload and is
00:15:46
very much so
00:15:47
more like an mp5 than it is like an ak
00:15:49
as far as releasing and locking into
00:15:51
place so what i found is with the mp5 a
00:15:54
lot of times when you push it in you
00:15:56
kind of got to give it that little bit
00:15:57
of back you kind of got to push it back
00:15:59
a little bit to get that thing to lock
00:16:01
into place and that absolutely is what
00:16:03
has kind of worked for me when it comes
00:16:04
to the kp9 so i'll seat it and then i'll
00:16:06
push it back and that will lock into
00:16:07
place almost every time now compared to
00:16:09
the mp5 and i know i'm doing a lot of
00:16:11
comparison but this is kind of the king
00:16:13
of
00:16:14
all things nine millimeter um when you
00:16:16
lock these in
00:16:18
and once you're what you need to do a
00:16:19
reload it's kind of a [ __ ] because you
00:16:21
have to lock the weapon up magazine out
00:16:24
new magazine in
00:16:26
and then of course slap it to get into
00:16:27
place
00:16:28
and the reason for that is you can't
00:16:30
take a full 30 round magazine seat it
00:16:32
well you can but you're probably going
00:16:33
to cause some damage to something on the
00:16:34
weapon so you can of course download
00:16:36
your magazine to 28 and that way you
00:16:39
could simply
00:16:40
you know seep the magazine in and then
00:16:43
you know charge it but what i like about
00:16:46
the kusa mags
00:16:48
is that with a full 30 rounder you can
00:16:51
pretty easily
00:16:52
get this guy seated into the back just
00:16:55
by giving it that little bit of backward
00:16:56
push and then so again it is very ak
00:16:59
like in the reload you get the weapon
00:17:01
magazine in and you simply charge the
00:17:02
weapon and you're gonna be good to go so
00:17:05
that is a good thing on the kusa so when
00:17:09
it comes to this of course i've added
00:17:10
the zeneco rp2 i like that on the
00:17:12
charging handle it just feels a little
00:17:13
bit better to me you should be aware
00:17:15
that it is a vityaz slash kp9 specific
00:17:20
charging handle cover from zenitco so
00:17:22
make sure that you get that and that's
00:17:24
what i have going there
00:17:26
on the safety the safety is completely
00:17:28
compatible with all ak safety so
00:17:31
whatever you want to put on there that's
00:17:32
going to work honestly the one that
00:17:34
comes from ksa is fine but an enhanced
00:17:37
safety like a krebs would be way better
00:17:39
so we have the weapon disassembled as
00:17:41
you can see right here all normal ak
00:17:43
triggers work so we have an alg trigger
00:17:45
in there which is kind of my go-to when
00:17:47
it comes to ak triggers and this guy is
00:17:49
fast so those triggers are phenomenal
00:17:52
now of course we can't go through
00:17:54
a grantham video without ghosting a
00:17:56
trigger so we're going to be ghosting
00:17:58
too because we have an original v yes
00:17:59
trigger
00:18:00
as well
00:18:02
as the alg so we're going to go ahead
00:18:04
and we're going to start with
00:18:06
the original trigger on my buddies
00:18:08
actually my camera guys who loved my kp9
00:18:12
so much that he got his own so
00:18:14
we're gonna go ahead
00:18:17
get that charged make sure trigger's
00:18:18
good with his
00:18:20
sling right here all right we're gonna
00:18:22
go ahead and ghost this trigger together
00:18:23
so filling into it
00:18:25
very typical ak trigger where we have
00:18:27
that very light pressure that gives us a
00:18:29
lot of play
00:18:31
but we have gradually building pressure
00:18:32
until we have that
00:18:34
let off right there hit that wall hit
00:18:35
that let off charging again checking the
00:18:37
reset
00:18:39
short reset and that's a great thing
00:18:41
about ak triggers is once you get going
00:18:43
on them
00:18:44
it's not hard to get fast on them that
00:18:46
is a maybe four and a half pound let off
00:18:49
that is very nice now let's go ahead and
00:18:52
compare that
00:18:53
to the alg trigger
00:18:57
so compared to the alg trigger
00:18:59
we have a little bit of play in it we
00:19:01
hit that immediate wall
00:19:03
there we go
00:19:05
maybe a two pound light off it's scary
00:19:07
fast
00:19:08
okay checking the reset
00:19:10
immediate very crisp
00:19:12
just a two pound you can run this
00:19:14
trigger
00:19:15
very very fast on this guy it is so much
00:19:19
fun to be honest um you know i know some
00:19:21
people have talked about the grips
00:19:22
they've said that they don't like the
00:19:23
grips on these weapons um personally i
00:19:26
like the grip a lot now i will say
00:19:28
that as soon as i got it and shot like
00:19:29
100 rounds that guy loosened right up so
00:19:32
i shot a bunch of loctite into it uh
00:19:35
re-tightened it and it hasn't moved
00:19:36
since so you should probably do a little
00:19:38
bit better of job at that
00:19:40
now going back to the stock
00:19:43
of course there are a lot of options out
00:19:44
there so of course on the back you can
00:19:46
put on a variety of different mechanisms
00:19:48
from a brace to a stock right here we
00:19:51
have a zeneco pt3 so
00:19:54
what's pretty cool is that the mechanism
00:19:56
uh they have an adapter in there that
00:19:57
makes it work with the vit yaz or the
00:19:58
kp9 so we can fold this guy down and
00:20:01
once it's folded it locks right into
00:20:04
place which is pretty dang cool that's a
00:20:06
very cool package and of course
00:20:09
even cooler is you can still fire that
00:20:11
weapon
00:20:12
when that guy
00:20:14
is folded
00:20:30
that is our stock right there and again
00:20:32
that is still a little bit lower so you
00:20:34
probably will need a riser especially if
00:20:35
you're going to have
00:20:36
some type of optic like an eotech if you
00:20:38
have a low mounted aim point you're
00:20:39
going to be fine with that but in this
00:20:41
case we have the riser about halfway up
00:20:43
this puts it at a really good height not
00:20:45
just for cqb shooting but also for night
00:20:47
vision shooting um this is an awesome
00:20:49
gun uh i like it quite a bit of any uh
00:20:52
pistol caliber carbine i fired it's
00:20:53
probably um right there maybe even
00:20:56
number one um i've grown to really love
00:20:58
this gun over the last couple months of
00:21:00
firing it and even compared to other
00:21:01
pistol caliber carbines that i fired
00:21:03
i found that they've lacked somewhat
00:21:06
due to the ease of use how nice the
00:21:08
recoil is because that's one thing that
00:21:10
surprised me on a straight blowback
00:21:12
weapon the recoil is pretty mild and i
00:21:14
understand have a lot of [ __ ] on there
00:21:15
but even compared to other weapons when
00:21:17
they're loaded down
00:21:19
so if you get the chance to you know get
00:21:21
your hands on the kp9 i would really
00:21:22
recommend it this has been an utterly
00:21:24
reliable and utterly dependable weapon
00:21:27
for me in every single way but the thing
00:21:28
about it is despite everything
00:21:32
if you're not training
00:21:33
none of this is going to matter so make
00:21:35
sure that you get out there and you get
00:21:37
training without training this weapon
00:21:39
will just absolutely suck tons of great
00:21:41
places to get training guys haley
00:21:43
strategic cog works bear solutions get
00:21:45
out there because the thing about it is
00:21:47
is this is a tool you are the weapon
00:21:49
make sure that you hone that weapon
