so this is a pretty interesting concept00:02:33
and i'm not forgotten weapons i'm not00:02:35
going to get into the history of it00:02:36
other than to say00:02:38
that the russians needed00:02:40
something in a smaller caliber and a00:02:43
submachine gun type weapon that would00:02:45
work with nine millimeter that would be00:02:47
good for police work or close quarters00:02:49
work for special operations and00:02:51
ultimately of those designs the vitiaz00:02:54
came about00:02:56
now of course why couldn't they just00:02:58
adopt the mp500:03:00
well they're russians so of course it's00:03:02
got to be some variant of the ak what's00:03:04
very interesting about this design and00:03:07
about the kp9 in general is that there00:03:09
is a lot of parts commonality00:03:12
with the ak-74 ak-100 series of rifles00:03:16
we'll talk about that as we go through00:03:17
it but what's going to be more important00:03:20
is our full disclosure so what is my00:03:22
relationship with kusa how did this00:03:24
review come about so to be honest i00:03:26
really wanted to get my hands on one of00:03:28
these because i wanted to do a review00:03:29
previously we did a review of the psa00:03:31

and a lot of people do consider this to00:03:34
be a competitor to the psa akv so i00:03:37
asked them if i could get this um00:03:40
for review they sent one along00:03:42

about what the hell we have going on00:04:04
with this thing about how i have it set00:04:06

this is a very fun gun to shoot00:04:26
so the kusa kp9 is a direct blowback00:04:31
weapon it is chambered in nine00:04:33
millimeter feeds from a proprietary00:04:35
magazine that works with the yaz as well00:04:37
and it is overall just a very cool00:04:39
weapon so we're gonna do what the00:04:42
marines love we're going to go tip to00:04:44
buy so starting at the very tip right00:04:46
here we have00:04:48
we have our muzzle device so to be clear00:04:51
um this is not the muzzle device that00:04:54
comes with the weapon this is a delta00:04:56
tech muzzle device and um00:04:58
the00:04:59
muscle device that does come with the00:05:01
kp9 or the kr9 if you have the rifle00:05:03
version um is the00:05:05
pretty much an exact replica of what00:05:07
comes with vityaz and that is kind of a00:05:08
cool thing about it but we wanted to00:05:11
include00:05:12
some products are currently in use with00:05:14
russian special operations so we use the00:05:15
delta tech so the delta tech is00:05:19
it is a flash hider and the question is00:05:22
is why is that flash hider so big00:05:24
because for example we have a flash00:05:27
hider on this mp5 right there and this00:05:29
does a very good job of keeping flash to00:05:32
an absolute minimum so why is it big00:05:34
well i mean the best way we can describe00:05:36
it is with the meme it's just00:05:38
russia you know if if small flash hydra00:05:41

big flash hider much better and that's00:05:45
pretty much what they that was a bad00:05:46
impression that's pretty much what00:05:48
happened to delta tech and it does do a00:05:49
phenomenal job of complete and utter00:05:52
flash elimination so if you want to come00:05:54

that means none of your suppressors00:06:30
would fit this and this is an awesome00:06:33

from there we have what looks like00:06:42
a gas system and you would think so but00:06:45
this is not a gas system because this is00:06:47
a direct00:06:48
blowback firearm so this is where it00:06:49
gets really interesting in my mind00:06:52
so this gas block is just there for the00:06:54
front sight posts and of course for the00:06:56
looks because this gas tube is not it is00:06:59
a gas tube but is more of a guide for00:07:01
the mass also off of the bolt carrier00:07:04
group which is this the bolt bolt00:07:06
carrier the mass on the front it's all00:07:08
just one piece now00:07:10
that might seem a little odd but the00:07:13
fewer moving parts you have in a system00:07:16
the more reliable that system is going00:07:17
to be and one thing that you can say00:07:19
about a simple blowback system00:07:21
especially like the kp9 here is while00:07:23
the recoil can be a little bit more00:07:24
stout than say an mp5 or an npx00:07:28
they are very very stupidly reliable00:07:31
weapons because they are so simple so00:07:33
what we're going to do here is i'm going00:07:35
to go ahead and i'm going to pop up the00:07:36

mean by this00:07:40
so funny enough i know robski had a lot00:07:42
of problems with his um ours unlocks00:07:44
absolutely no problem so we have the00:07:45
recoil spring right here um00:07:47
ak recoil spring right good old russians00:07:49
so we have that guy right there we of00:07:51
course have our bolt carrier00:07:53
and our bolt and as you can see right00:07:54

not a normal system not a piston not gas00:07:59
driven but simply mass added for a00:08:02
direct blowback system the added mass of00:08:04
course controls the speed of the recoil00:08:06
which controls how quickly the weapon is00:08:08
cycling and functioning00:08:10

in there to ensure that everything is in00:08:14

on the mp500:10:14
is pretty00:10:15
slow overall it's a long pole and it00:10:18
takes a lot to single fire rounds from00:10:21
this sp5 now on full auto trigger really00:10:24
doesn't [ __ ] matter you hold that00:10:26
[ __ ] to the rear and that thing's just00:10:27
going to let loose and on the mp5 with00:10:28
such a smooth cyclic rate and as low as00:10:32
the recoil is it's a phenomenal00:10:34
phenomenal probably the best submachine00:10:37
gun on the planet now when it comes to00:10:39
it being a pcc terrible trigger sucks00:10:42
now00:10:43
with the kp9 the kp9 has an ak trigger00:10:46
and honestly ak triggers are really00:10:47
freaking good so what that means is when00:10:50
i'm having to fire a round after round00:10:51
that reset is super short and it's easy00:10:54
to pull that trigger and i can run this00:10:56
thing00:10:57
so much faster than i can in sp5 so when00:10:59
it comes to00:11:00
differences between pccs and smgs and00:11:03
whether a good submachine gun is a good00:11:04
pcc not always because again like we00:11:07
said before mp5 great sub machine gun00:11:10
not the best pcc fit yaz probably good00:11:13
at both but honestly if you're going to00:11:14
be using it as a pcc00:11:17
probably much better and that is why i00:11:18
think that the kp9 is a better pistol00:11:21
caliber carbine00:11:22
candidate now going from all that let's00:11:25
talk about how i had this guy set up and00:11:27
what we have here so obviously we don't00:11:28
have the original furniture so we're00:11:30
going to pop up a little picture right00:11:31
here of the original furniture that is00:11:33
on the kp9 so obviously we have modified00:11:35
it quite a bit00:11:36
the normal kp9 furniture is fine it's00:11:39
your typical ak-74 type furniture00:11:42
no problems there but certainly it can00:11:43
be upgraded like many other things and00:11:45
of course you guys know that i love00:11:47
zenitco so we do have zenico furniture00:11:49
on this guy and it really does improve00:11:52
the feel of the kp9 in my mind so with00:11:56
the upper and lower right here and then00:11:58
what we've done is because the surefire00:12:01
light is both uh white light and ir00:12:04
capable i have that kind of mounted00:12:05
right up there and we have our pressure00:12:07
pad from our light right here going to00:12:10
the back of this grip right here so i00:12:11
can activate that guy now as far as the00:12:14
laser device this is a purse 4 this is00:12:16
also from zenitco and i have that on the00:12:19
side there to utilize for night vision00:12:20
shooting i'm basically just tilting the00:12:22
gun rolling the gun over and just00:12:24
engaging on that button again it can get00:12:26
a little bit dicey setting up a a laser00:12:29
device any light on a very compact00:12:32
system like this and this is kind of00:12:33
what i've ended up liking quite a bit on00:12:35
my kp900:12:37
now um you have to get you're gonna have00:12:39
to find something that's going to work00:12:40
for you but this is what has worked very00:12:43
well for me now going back from here00:12:45
here's where it gets really interesting00:12:46
in my mind when it comes to the kp9 um00:12:48
the vit yaz has several different00:12:49
variants out there one of the variants00:12:51
has a side rail right here from mounting00:12:52
optics00:12:53
as we know in the united states not a00:12:56
lot of people are using side mounted00:12:57
optics now on the kp900:13:00
they chose to use the top rail which is00:13:02
riveted into place you know when i first00:13:03
saw it i thought that there was no way00:13:05
that was the way it was actually done in00:13:06
the videos but sure enough it was and i00:13:08
was very00:13:10
skeptical that this thing would at all00:13:13
hold zero but sure enough this is00:13:16
perhaps00:13:17
as of00:13:18
this video being done probably one of00:13:20
the more accurate pistol caliber00:13:22
carbines that i've owned so to show that00:13:24
we're gonna go ahead we're gonna step up00:13:25
uh to about 120. we're gonna take some00:13:27
shots on a steel silhouette and we're00:13:29
gonna see how it does all right kp9 12000:13:32
ip6 targets00:13:52

easy guys um this is a very capable00:13:55
weapon we'll step up to the 80. we'll00:13:57
take some shots on a couple different00:13:58
targets to show you how that works all00:14:00
right we're going to hit those three00:14:01
targets just going across about 80 right00:14:03

i love this gun so when it comes to00:14:31
optic rail um we have absolutely00:14:34
no problems holding zero when our optic00:14:37
is mounted now it also comes down to the00:14:39
xeneco rail uh because that [ __ ] is00:14:40
hammered straight into the receiver i00:14:42
haven't had any drift of zero when it00:14:43
comes to the laser or anything like that00:14:45
a couple interesting things here uh a00:14:48
weapon design is made or broken based00:14:51
off of its magazines so when it comes to00:14:54
the kusa the kp9 it is an exact replica00:14:58
of the ass magazines and these are00:15:00
polymer and they are still reinforced00:15:02
and they're a pretty simple design00:15:05
and they're extremely reliable um i've00:15:08
had about 10 of these i did have one00:15:10
brakes throughout the package but you00:15:12
know manufacturing defects but all the00:15:13
other ones00:15:14
they've run absolutely very very well00:15:17
you can also get the russian ones the00:15:18
puff gun mags and those also run very00:15:21
well but for me personally00:15:23
i have no problems with the kusa00:15:25
magazines the only thing i could00:15:26
possibly00:15:27
say about them is the fact that they are00:15:29
a little bit pricey which kind of sucks00:15:32
when it comes to this weapon00:15:33
so that's kind of a that's kind of a00:15:35
downer but what's good about reloads on00:15:38
the kp9 as you can see right here00:15:41
the magazine well00:15:43
is beveled00:15:44
so it is a very simple reload and is00:15:46
very much so00:15:47
more like an mp5 than it is like an ak00:15:49
as far as releasing and locking into00:15:51
place so what i found is with the mp5 a00:15:54
lot of times when you push it in you00:15:56
kind of got to give it that little bit00:15:57
of back you kind of got to push it back00:15:59
a little bit to get that thing to lock00:16:01
into place and that absolutely is what00:16:03
has kind of worked for me when it comes00:16:04
to the kp9 so i'll seat it and then i'll00:16:06
push it back and that will lock into00:16:07
place almost every time now compared to00:16:09
the mp5 and i know i'm doing a lot of00:16:11
comparison but this is kind of the king00:16:13
of00:16:14
all things nine millimeter um when you00:16:16
lock these in00:16:18
and once you're what you need to do a00:16:19
reload it's kind of a [ __ ] because you00:16:21
have to lock the weapon up magazine out00:16:24
new magazine in00:16:26
and then of course slap it to get into00:16:27
place00:16:28
and the reason for that is you can't00:16:30
take a full 30 round magazine seat it00:16:32
well you can but you're probably going00:16:33
to cause some damage to something on the00:16:34
weapon so you can of course download00:16:36
your magazine to 28 and that way you00:16:39
could simply00:16:40
you know seep the magazine in and then00:16:43
you know charge it but what i like about00:16:46
the kusa mags00:16:48
is that with a full 30 rounder you can00:16:51
pretty easily00:16:52
get this guy seated into the back just00:16:55
by giving it that little bit of backward00:16:56
push and then so again it is very ak00:16:59
like in the reload you get the weapon00:17:01
magazine in and you simply charge the00:17:02
weapon and you're gonna be good to go so00:17:05
that is a good thing on the kusa so when00:17:09
it comes to this of course i've added00:17:10
the zeneco rp2 i like that on the00:17:12
charging handle it just feels a little00:17:13
bit better to me you should be aware00:17:15
that it is a vityaz slash kp9 specific00:17:20
charging handle cover from zenitco so00:17:22
make sure that you get that and that's00:17:24
what i have going there00:17:26
on the safety the safety is completely00:17:28
compatible with all ak safety so00:17:31
whatever you want to put on there that's00:17:32
going to work honestly the one that00:17:34
comes from ksa is fine but an enhanced00:17:37
safety like a krebs would be way better00:17:39
so we have the weapon disassembled as00:17:41
you can see right here all normal ak00:17:43
triggers work so we have an alg trigger00:17:45
in there which is kind of my go-to when00:17:47
it comes to ak triggers and this guy is00:17:49
fast so those triggers are phenomenal00:17:52
now of course we can't go through00:17:54

trigger so we're going to be ghosting00:17:58
too because we have an original v yes00:17:59

100 rounds that guy loosened right up so00:19:32
i shot a bunch of loctite into it uh00:19:35
re-tightened it and it hasn't moved00:19:36
since so you should probably do a little00:19:38
bit better of job at that00:19:40
now going back to the stock00:19:43
of course there are a lot of options out00:19:44
there so of course on the back you can00:19:46
put on a variety of different mechanisms00:19:48
from a brace to a stock right here we00:19:51
have a zeneco pt3 so00:19:54
what's pretty cool is that the mechanism00:19:56
uh they have an adapter in there that00:19:57
makes it work with the vit yaz or the00:19:58
kp9 so we can fold this guy down and00:20:01
once it's folded it locks right into00:20:04
place which is pretty dang cool that's a00:20:06
very cool package and of course00:20:09
even cooler is you can still fire that00:20:11
weapon00:20:12
when that guy00:20:14
is folded00:20:30
that is our stock right there and again00:20:32
that is still a little bit lower so you00:20:34
probably will need a riser especially if00:20:35
you're going to have00:20:36
some type of optic like an eotech if you00:20:38
have a low mounted aim point you're00:20:39
going to be fine with that but in this00:20:41
case we have the riser about halfway up00:20:43
this puts it at a really good height not00:20:45
just for cqb shooting but also for night00:20:47
vision shooting um this is an awesome00:20:49
gun uh i like it quite a bit of any uh00:20:52
pistol caliber carbine i fired it's00:20:53
probably um right there maybe even00:20:56
number one um i've grown to really love00:20:58
this gun over the last couple months of00:21:00
firing it and even compared to other00:21:01
pistol caliber carbines that i fired00:21:03
i found that they've lacked somewhat00:21:06
due to the ease of use how nice the00:21:08
recoil is because that's one thing that00:21:10
surprised me on a straight blowback00:21:12
weapon the recoil is pretty mild and i00:21:14
understand have a lot of [ __ ] on there00:21:15
but even compared to other weapons when00:21:17
they're loaded down00:21:19
so if you get the chance to you know get00:21:21
your hands on the kp9 i would really00:21:22
recommend it this has been an utterly00:21:24
reliable and utterly dependable weapon00:21:27
for me in every single way but the thing00:21:28
about it is despite everything00:21:32
if you're not training00:21:33
none of this is going to matter so make00:21:35
sure that you get out there and you get00:21:37
training without training this weapon00:21:39
will just absolutely suck tons of great00:21:41
