Henri Guillemin centre ici son exposé sur la trajectoire de l’écrivain Georges Bernanos. Après une éducation religieuse, celui-ci porte un fort intérêt pour la politique et les idées de l’action française. Mais ses convictions et sa vocation le portent sur l’écriture. La guerre de 14-18 constitue une horreur pour lui. Son découragement se poursuit en temps de paix puisque ses écrits sont refusés par les éditeurs. Mais la roue tourne : ses contacts avec l’action française et l’élaboration de "Sous le soleil de Satan" lui apportent le succès. Les années 1932-1934 constituent des années noires, car Bernanos se trouve ruiné, infirme et se brouille définitivement avec l’action française. Il fuit à Palma de Majorque et fera ensuite son retour sur la scène littéraire grâce à l’appui de Mauriac. Dans un premier temps, Bernanos cautionne l’insurrection de Franco puis, devant les exécutions sommaires et les injustices, il s’insurge. C'est également un période d'attaque virulente contre les clercs bienpensants. Exilé au Brésil pendant la 2e Guerre Mondiale, il soutient de Gaulle et revient en France en 1945, méfiant devant le miracle de la libération française, en portant un jugement critique sur l’ensemble de ses compatriotes. C'est alors qu'il quitte une troisième fois la France, chez qui il ne reviendra que pour des raisons médicales. Club 44, 4 novembre 1974
