00:00:01
Hello!
00:00:02
My name is Ilya Yashin.
00:00:04
More than a week has passed since the beginning of the invasion of
00:00:06
Putin's troops on the territory of Ukraine.
00:00:09
All of these days we have been following reports of battles,
00:00:13
observing shelling, damaged armored vehicles and burning
00:00:15
buildings.
00:00:16
We are trying to gauge realistic number of the casualties on both sides
00:00:20
and we are in a daze from the horror that is happening.
00:00:23
It's getting harder and harder to tell the truth about the war.
00:00:27
Especially if you, like me, stay in Russia
00:00:29
and are not planning to leave.
00:00:32
Journalists, in the worst Orwellian tradition, are forbidden to call a
00:00:35
war a war.
00:00:37
The prosecutor's office blocks independent media.
00:00:39
The "Ekho Moskvy" radio station station and the "Dozhd" TV channel
00:00:42
were taken off the air.
00:00:43
While the State Duma is passing a law according to which people
00:00:46
can be imprisoned for 15 years for the so-called fakes
00:00:50
about this military operation.
00:00:51
Well, that is, to put it simply, you can be arrested if
00:00:54
you publicly tell something that differs from the official
00:00:58
version of the Russian authorities.
00:01:00
However, telling the truth is important, no
00:01:03
matter how risky it may be.
00:01:05
And while I am alive, healthy and at liberty, I consider it my duty
00:01:09
to speak honestly about this, as I consider it, a criminal
00:01:12
and fratricidal war.
00:01:14
Because, as you know, for the triumph of evil it is
00:01:17
enough that good people do nothing.
00:01:20
Today I want to sum up the first results of Putin's so-called
00:01:24
military operation against Ukraine.
00:01:26
The way I see these results.
00:01:29
We will compare the expectations of this war with the grim reality.
00:01:32
And let's try to analyze what mistakes the
00:01:35
Russian leadership made.
00:01:36
Mistakes that led to huge casualties, to the tragedy of the
00:01:40
Ukrainian people and the severe isolation of Russia.

00:01:57
We're starting.
00:02:07
Our submarines are capable of launching more than half a thousand
00:02:10
nuclear warheads, which is guaranteed to destroy the
00:02:13
United States and all NATO countries to boot.
00:02:17
Should we fight the NATO bloc?
00:02:25
So, what are the preliminary results of the military operation
00:02:29
against Ukraine, and what are the main mistakes,
00:02:32
from my point of view, were made by Putin.
00:02:34
The first and main result.
00:02:36
The Russian army did not succeed in a blitzkrieg, that is, a fleeting
00:02:40
war, when the main combat missions are solved in a few
00:02:43
days during a swift offensive.
00:02:46
I believe that the plan of the military operation was something like this.
00:02:49
Day one - the suppression of the Ukrainian air defense system with
00:02:53
massive salvo fire and missile
00:02:56
strikes.
00:02:57
The defeat or capture of military airfields by pinpoint
00:03:01
air attacks and landings.
00:03:04
Thus, in the very first hours of the offensive
00:03:06
campaign, it was supposed to ensure complete
00:03:10
air supremacy.
00:03:11
Second day.
00:03:12
Continued massive air strikes to
00:03:14
destroy the enemy's military infrastructure.
00:03:18
Destruction of warehouses, hangars with equipment, command posts,
00:03:22
radar stations.
00:03:23
Well, that is, a radical undermining of the defensive
00:03:25
potential of the armed forces of Ukraine and the destruction
00:03:28
of the supply lines of its individual parts.
00:03:31
Thanks to this tactic, by the third day, it
00:03:34
seems to me, it was planned to provide favorable conditions at the front
00:03:37
for a large-scale ground operation, during
00:03:40
which the Russian army could rapidly move
00:03:43
forward.
00:03:44
The main parts were advancing on the cities of Sumy, Kharkiv
00:03:47
and Mariupol in eastern Ukraine.
00:03:50
A major advance was indicated from the territory of the
00:03:52
Crimea to the Kherson region.
00:03:54
And from the northern border of Ukraine, large forces were thrown
00:03:59
towards Kyiv, which, of course, was designated as
00:04:02
a priority target.
00:04:03
Everyone understands that the capture of the capital significantly undermines the
00:04:07
morale and fighting spirit of the defenders of Ukraine.
00:04:09
If we analyze the offensive of the Russian army,
00:04:12
we can assume that it was planned to essentially
00:04:15
cut the country into two parts, taking a number of large cities,
00:04:19
including Kyiv.
00:04:20
Ukrainian units located in the east would be forced to
00:04:24
retreat to the city of Dnepr, where they were to
00:04:27
be surrounded, in the so-called cauldron.
00:04:29
And they would have been forced to either surrender, or, without external
00:04:32
support, suffer heavy losses.
00:04:35
In fact, the Kremlin propaganda did not particularly hide the fact
00:04:38
that Putin does not count on delaying the military
00:04:41
operation.
00:04:42
And Kyiv was promised to be taken by landing forces by lunchtime,
00:04:45
after which they would celebrate the victory with a concert by Gazmanov.
00:04:48
Order of the Minister of Defense Shoigu.
00:04:50
6 a.m.: Wake up.
00:04:52
Seven in the morning: morning toilet.
00:04:53
Eight: breakfast.
00:04:55
Nine zero zero: attack on Ukraine.
00:04:56
Twelve zero zero: dinner
00:04:57
Thirteen zero zero: the capture of Kyiv.
00:05:01
Eighteen:
00:05:02
Gazmanov's concert. Twenty- one
00:05:03
zero-zero: salute. The only
00:05:07
thing missing is the dates, Yevgeny Petrovich.
00:05:09
And the rest,
00:05:10
it seems to me, is not far from the truth.
00:05:13
Well, that
00:05:14
is, roughly speaking, Putin wanted to take Ukraine according to the
00:05:15
scenario of Georgia in 2008.
00:05:18
Then the Russian units had five days to
00:05:21
reach Tbilisi and, under the threat of capturing the capital, force the
00:05:25
Western leaders to sit down at the negotiating table.
00:05:28
Moreover, the Kremlin then conducted a dialogue from a position of
00:05:30
strength, which it demonstrated during the hostilities.
00:05:33
And let me remind you that after the war with Georgia, a temporary
00:05:37
warming of relations with the United States began, the so-called
00:05:40
reset process.
00:05:41
Obama came to Moscow, and during a return visit
00:05:45
to the United States, then-President Medvedev happily ate
00:05:47
hamburgers and looked at iPhones.
00:05:50
And Putin's first major mistake was that, apparently, he
00:05:53
greatly overestimated the capabilities of the Russian
00:05:57
army and clearly underestimated the defensive potential of the
00:06:00
Ukrainian armed forces.
00:06:02
How do I imagine this picture?
00:06:04
Putin holds a meeting attended by the
00:06:07
head of the general staff, the defense minister and other
00:06:09
major security officials.
00:06:11
And everyone vied with each other to tell the president how
00:06:14
well prepared our army is now, what modern
00:06:16
weapons it has received, how invincible it is.
00:06:20
Not even inferior to the USA.
00:06:21
Putin goes to exercises where he is shown rapid
00:06:25
tank maneuvers, landings, and powerful fire
00:06:29
potential.
00:06:30
He is shown the latest missile developments, and the
00:06:33
president proudly shows the deputies cartoons with a Russian
00:06:36
missile that is ready to fly around the globe
00:06:39
and hit any target anywhere in the world.
00:06:44
As you understand, no one else in the world
00:06:52
has anything like it yet.
00:06:54
Well, that is, the generals, wanting to please Putin and knowing how
00:06:58
much he likes to play soldiers, form in his head the
00:07:00
absolute certainty that the Russian army is
00:07:03
invincible.
00:07:04
What kind of Ukraine is there, what can it oppose to
00:07:07
our powerful potential?
00:07:09
If we swept away with one forced march, they would all scatter there,
00:07:12
dropping the brand new weapons that the Americans had sent them.
00:07:15
Look out to Afghanistan!
00:07:17
The Americans have been creating an army there for 20 years, but as soon as the Taliban
00:07:20
approached Kabul, all these warriors fled, surrendering the
00:07:23
country without a fight.
00:07:24
And in Ukraine it will be exactly the same.
00:07:26
And, of course, Putin believed that the Russian army would not meet any serious
00:07:29
resistance on the territory of
00:07:31
Ukraine.
00:07:32
That the country will be under his
00:07:35
complete control within a week at most, and he will again be able to impose a dialogue on the West
00:07:38
from a position of strength.
00:07:40
But Ukraine is not Afghanistan, where the army really fled.
00:07:44
And not Georgia, a small country that could not hold back the
00:07:48
military pressure of huge Russia.
00:07:51
Ukraine is a major European power, where 44 million
00:07:54
people live.
00:07:55
Eight years ago, part of the territory was taken from her by force,
00:07:58
and all these years she created an army from scratch and prepared
00:08:02
to repel a new attack.
00:08:04
The plan developed by the Moscow generals faced
00:08:07
a cruel reality.
00:08:08
The Russian units, although they are advancing, are much
00:08:11
slower than the command planned.
00:08:14
Everywhere, Ukrainians are putting up stiff resistance,
00:08:17
and the advance of Putin's units is losing momentum.
00:08:20
For each city there are heavy battles.
00:08:23
Volunteers are armed, forming units of territorial
00:08:26
defense.
00:08:27
On city streets, under the tracks of tanks, Molotov cocktails are flying
00:08:30
, which residents prepare in homecraft conditions.
00:08:34
Russia is suffering heavy losses in this war.
00:08:36
According to official figures alone, in the first week of fighting, the army
00:08:40
lost almost 500 people killed and almost 1,600 wounded.
00:08:45
To be honest, these numbers are hard to believe.
00:08:48
I assume that the losses are much higher, but the
00:08:51
authorities do not want to name the real figures so as not to
00:08:53
provoke public discontent.
00:08:55
Hundreds, and possibly thousands, of dead and wounded, but the main
00:08:59
tasks are far from being completed.
00:09:02
The generals promised a swift campaign and a swift victory.
00:09:05
But in reality, it seems that we are getting deeper and
00:09:08
deeper into this difficult war.
00:09:10
And since the army, apparently, did not prepare
00:09:13
for a long conflict, it is easy to believe that equipment
00:09:16
has to be abandoned due to lack of fuel, that
00:09:19
soldiers often do not have enough food, that the
00:09:22
logistics of supplying forward units are disrupted.
00:09:25
After all, a protracted campaign on foreign territory requires a
00:09:28
completely different preparation.
00:09:30
The second result and the second mistake of Putin.
00:09:33
Kremlin strategists clearly believed that Ukraine would
00:09:36
greet Russian soldiers with flowers and tears of joy.
00:09:40
After all, Putin has apparently convinced himself that the people of Ukraine are
00:09:43
suffering under the yoke of, as he put it, the Kiev
00:09:47
gang of Nazis and drug addicts.
00:09:48
In addition, pictures of 2014 are vivid in his memory, when
00:09:53
in the Crimea and some areas of the Donbass, some people came out
00:09:56
with Russian flags and under the slogans "Putin, bring in the
00:10:00
troops."
00:10:01
Well, that is, the Kremlin was convinced that for the arrival of the
00:10:02
so-called Russian world in Ukraine there is a wide
00:10:06
social base of support, well, except perhaps for the
00:10:09
very western regions.
00:10:11
But it was assumed that the east and central part of the
00:10:13
country would be happy to meet Russian troops.
00:10:16
But here, too, Putin miscalculated.
00:10:18
If until now there was a discussion in Ukraine about where to move
00:10:22
- towards integration with Russia or towards Europe -
00:10:25
now this topic is closed.
00:10:27
Is it really not clear to anyone that we are now perceived
00:10:30
as an aggressor country?
00:10:32
Even pro-Russian politicians, city mayors take up
00:10:35
arms and organize defense.
00:10:37
The military invasion, shelling with volley fire, bombing
00:10:42
turned Putin into an image of absolute evil.
00:10:45
And it is important to understand that for Ukraine this war has
00:10:48
become truly patriotic.
00:10:49
There is an incredible patriotic upsurge in the country.
00:10:54
People go to fight with superior forces and demonstrate their
00:10:57
readiness to pay with their lives for their land, for
00:11:01
their freedom and independence.
00:11:03
Sovereignty has ceased to be a
00:11:06
political science textbook term for Ukrainians.
00:11:08
It has become a real value for which people shed
00:11:11
blood and are ready to sacrifice themselves.
00:11:14
We see how in the captured cities the locals
00:11:16
come out without weapons, with the national flags of Ukraine and stand
00:11:19
in the way of Russian armored columns.
00:11:22
They sing the anthem of their country, standing under the sights of machine guns.
00:11:25
And young Russian soldiers look at this
00:11:29
in complete confusion, because the political officers told
00:11:32
them that they would be met here as liberators, and the President of
00:11:36
Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky would sign an act of surrender
00:11:39
in the very first days of the war.
00:11:40
By the way, Putin also clearly underestimated Zelensky.
00:11:43
He always treated him with disdain.
00:11:46
Well, some kind of comedy artist, clown, what can he even
00:11:49
understand in geopolitics?
00:11:51
Which one is the president,
00:11:54
especially the wartime president?
00:11:55
But Zelensky is clearly imbued with the importance of the historical
00:11:58
moment and, like many Ukrainians, is ready to risk his own
00:12:01
life so that the country survives and maintains
00:12:04
its independence.
00:12:06
When the tanks approached Kiev, several Western leaders
00:12:09
immediately suggested that the Ukrainian president be evacuated.
00:12:13
But he did not go anywhere,
00:12:17
he remained in the besieged Kyiv, he behaves boldly and very dignified.
00:12:19
Everyone has already forgotten that he was once a clown.
00:12:21
For most Ukrainians today, he is a national
00:12:24
leader who fights alongside his people.
00:12:27
Putin seemed to be counting on the fact that after the outbreak of the war, the
00:12:30
people would rise up against Zelensky and raise a revolt.
00:12:34
And the Russian president directly addressed the Ukrainian
00:12:37
military, demanding to remove the president, take power
00:12:40
into his own hands and, in fact, form a junta with which the Kremlin
00:12:43
could begin a dialogue.
00:12:45
Once again, I appeal to the servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
00:12:51
Don't let neo-Nazis and Benderites use
00:12:55
your children, your wives, your old people as
00:12:58
human shields.
00:13:01
Take power into your own hands.
00:13:02
It looks like it will be easier for us to come to terms with you.
00:13:07
than with this gang of drug addicts
00:13:09
and neo-Nazis that has settled in Kyiv.
00:13:11
But the army of Ukraine remained faithful to its commander in chief,
00:13:15
who did not run away anywhere.
00:13:16
And Zelensky's popularity among the people has reached a
00:13:19
record high.
00:13:20
According to polls, today more than 90 percent of
00:13:24
Ukrainians support him.
00:13:25
Putin's mistake - he thought he would fight against the
00:13:28
Kiev regime with the mass support of ordinary Ukrainians.
00:13:31
And as a result, the Russian army is forced to fight the Ukrainian
00:13:35
people, while Zelensky's political power has been
00:13:37
significantly strengthened.
00:13:39
Moving on.
00:13:40
The third result and the third mistake of the President of Russia.
00:13:44
Putin turned out to be completely unprepared for such a harsh reaction
00:13:47
from the West.
00:13:48
Yes, Putin was right about something.
00:13:50
He correctly calculated that NATO would not fight
00:13:53
Russia for Ukrainian independence.
00:13:55
It is clear that this is a direct path to nuclear war and the destruction of
00:13:58
all life on Earth.
00:14:00
And Putin does not hide at all that he is ready to press the nuclear
00:14:03
button.
00:14:04
And against the backdrop of the ongoing madness, I think few
00:14:07
people doubt that he is not bluffing and is really
00:14:10
capable of destroying the whole world, including Russia.
00:14:13
We, as martyrs, will go to heaven.
00:14:16
And they just die.
00:14:20
But Ukraine receives colossal political and material
00:14:23
support from virtually the entire world.
00:14:25
Literally the entire world community is rooting for the success of
00:14:29
Ukrainians today, expressing solidarity with the nation fighting for its
00:14:33
right to exist.
00:14:35
But our country, on the contrary, found itself in a severe
00:14:38
blockade and isolation, to which it will be very difficult,
00:14:43
if not impossible, to adapt.
00:14:44
First, we have no allies left at all.
00:14:47
At the UN General Assembly, a vote was passed
00:14:50
for a resolution condemning Russian aggression.
00:14:53
Only five countries opposed: Russia itself,
00:14:58
Belarus, Syria, Eritrea and North Korea.
00:15:02
Serbia, traditionally friendly to us,
00:15:05
voted for the condemnation of Russia.
00:15:06
Withdrawing support was China, which condemned Putin for
00:15:09
nuclear threats and stressed that we have close economic
00:15:12
ties, but we are not allies.
00:15:15
The pro-Kremlin Czech president, who has been accused
00:15:18
of receiving money from Moscow, advocated the
00:15:21
toughest possible sanctions and was the first to propose cutting Russia off
00:15:25
from the Swift financial system.
00:15:27
Putin really scared the whole world.
00:15:29
But this fear does not equal respect.
00:15:32
Putin today is an absolute anti-hero of world politics,
00:15:35
in different countries he is openly compared with Hitler.
00:15:39
And Russia under his leadership is sinking deeper
00:15:42
into isolation.
00:15:43
Under the weight of sanctions, our economy is bursting at the seams.
00:15:47
We see the collapse of the ruble, the freezing of gold and foreign exchange
00:15:50
reserves, the shutdown of the country from international markets, the
00:15:54
departure of the world's largest campaigns from Russia.
00:15:57
Citizens are waiting for the inevitable rise in prices and a decrease in income.
00:16:00
Life in Russia will become more expensive, and people will become poorer.
00:16:04
At the same time, starting a war with Ukraine, Putin stated
00:16:07
that his goal was to push NATO and the European Union away from Russian
00:16:10
borders.
00:16:11
But apparently it will have the opposite effect.
00:16:13
So far neutral Finland and Sweden have already
00:16:16
started a dialogue on joining NATO.
00:16:19
And the president of Ukraine is being welcomed in the European Parliament,
00:16:23
and the EU has begun the process of accelerated admission of the country to its community.
00:16:27
Apparently, this year we will see Ukraine as part of the
00:16:30
European Union.
00:16:31
In general, Putin played geopolitics.
00:16:34
Our propaganda for many years assured that the President of
00:16:36
Russia is the wisest and most experienced politician in the world, that he
00:16:40
is capable of outplaying anyone.
00:16:41
For so long we have been convinced of this that Putin seems to have
00:16:45
believed it.
00:16:46
And the truth is that Putin has a rather low political
00:16:49
qualification and inflated conceit.
00:16:51
He makes serious mistakes and does not calculate the
00:16:55
consequences of his actions.
00:16:56
The bloody adventure in Ukraine will cost him dearly.
00:17:00
Putin repeated the typical mistake of Russian leaders
00:17:02
who trusted the generals too much and fell into military
00:17:05
euphoria.
00:17:06
At the beginning of the last century, Nicholas II began,
00:17:09
as it seemed to him, a small victorious war with Japan,
00:17:13
which turned into heavy human losses, an
00:17:16
economic crisis and the loss of Russian territories
00:17:18
in the east.
00:17:19
Boris Yeltsin in 1994 believed General Grachev, who
00:17:25
promised to take Grozny in two hours with the help of a parachute
00:17:28
regiment.
00:17:29
As a result, Russia received the Chechen war, monstrous in its cruelty,
00:17:32
and a sea of casualties.
00:17:35
And now Putin, apparently, allowed Generals
00:17:38
Shoigu and Gerasimov to convince himself that Ukraine would be
00:17:42
taken under control by the Russian army with minimal losses
00:17:46
and in the shortest possible time.
00:17:47
As a result, we got a national catastrophe, the real cost of
00:17:51
which is still impossible to calculate.
00:17:54
Putin could go down in history as a great Russian
00:17:56
leader of historical proportions.
00:17:58
In the early 2000s, he had an oil-
00:18:01
money-driven economy, huge social support, and
00:18:04
high loyalty on the world stage.
00:18:07
Putin had everything to carry out reforms that could
00:18:10
provide Russia with sustainable development, a high standard of
00:18:14
living and security.
00:18:15
Instead, he has turned us into world outcasts who are
00:18:20
getting poorer every day, attacking our neighbors and threatening the whole
00:18:23
world with nuclear weapons.
00:18:26
Putin is a disgrace to Russia.
00:18:27
And the years of his reign will remain a black page in the textbooks of
00:18:31
our history.

Description:

Putin was clearly counting on a blitzkrieg and a swift capture of Kyiv. But the war drags on, the army suffers losses, and the Russian economy begins to collapse under the weight of sanctions. Russian generals were overconfident and underestimated Ukraine's ability to resist. In this video, we analyze Putin's three key mistakes and predict what they can lead to.
