00:00:01
this video i'm going to be living in
00:00:03
1952 for a week that's right we're
00:00:05
giving time travel a try basically this
00:00:07
means i can't use my phone i can't use
00:00:09
my computer i can't use anything that
00:00:11
would be considered modern obviously
00:00:13
i'll only be taking that so far because
00:00:14
if i was living in 1952 i would have an
00:00:17
oven i wouldn't have the same oven that
00:00:19
i actually have in my house but i would
00:00:21
have a oven so i'm allowed to use the
00:00:22
oven this also means that i can't read
00:00:24
books or listen to music that came out
00:00:26
after 1952. obviously one place where i
00:00:28
will be breaking the rule is that i'll
00:00:30
be using the camera so that i can film
00:00:32
this because otherwise it wouldn't be a
00:00:34
youtube video i will technically be
00:00:35
starting this tomorrow because i have
00:00:37
some preparation to do one of the things
00:00:38
on my list of to do's is to figure out
00:00:40
some sort of vintage radio program i
00:00:43
have a vintage radio over there but i
00:00:45
can't just like turn it on and have it
00:00:48
play modern music i want to be able to
00:00:50
listen to the radio though but it can
00:00:51
only be vintage stuff i'd like to avoid
00:00:53
needing to use a spotify playlist partly
00:00:55
because then i'd actually have to like
00:00:57
turn on my phone or computer and go onto
00:00:58
spotify which would kind of be cheating
00:01:00
but also because if i was living in 1952
00:01:03
and i turned on the radio i wouldn't be
00:01:04
able to decide what songs come on even
00:01:06
if i put a playlist on shuffle i would
00:01:08
still be the one who created the
00:01:10
playlist you know there's a satellite
00:01:12
radio channel called 40s junction that
00:01:14
only plays 40s music and i would
00:01:16
normally have to pay a subscription
00:01:17
except for they have like a four month
00:01:19
free trial thing so i think i might try
00:01:21
that a few other places where this is
00:01:23
going to be affecting my lifestyle one
00:01:25
laundry i'm gonna try and do my own
00:01:27
laundry in a relatively historically
00:01:29
accurate to the 1950s kind of way by the
00:01:31
early 50s there were a fair amount of
00:01:33
middle-class people who had a washing
00:01:35
machine but it was fairly likely that
00:01:36
you would have a washing machine and not
00:01:38
a dryer so i'm going to be using my
00:01:39
washing machine but then air drying my
00:01:41
clothing on a clothes line in the
00:01:43
backyard
00:01:45
excuse my phone that by the way is one
00:01:48
thing that i can use because that is
00:01:49
like an actual vintage phone i'm going
00:01:51
to be doing this for a five day week
00:01:53
instead of seven because i think that my
00:01:55
dad would probably be very upset with me
00:01:57
if i held off on watching the 70s show
00:02:00
with him for more than five days largely
00:02:02
because i'd like to have a decent amount
00:02:03
of time left to edit this throughout
00:02:05
this week if i have any kinds of
00:02:07
questions like if i can do something or
00:02:09
if a book for example was published
00:02:10
before 1952 i need to ask somebody else
00:02:13
to look it up for me so i'm gonna go
00:02:15
start doing some preparation i'm gonna
00:02:16
go on my computer and see if i can get
00:02:18
that 1940s radio channels working on my
00:02:20
radio and i'm also going to write down
00:02:22
all of my contacts phone numbers since i
00:02:24
won't be able to just look them up in my
00:02:26
contacts inconveniently the website of
00:02:28
the satellite radio channel that i
00:02:29
talked about was crash so i couldn't
00:02:31
sign up for the free trial but i found a
00:02:32
different free one and i will link it in
00:02:34
the description because it was
00:02:35
incredibly enjoyable for the whole week
00:02:38
then i wrote down my contacts and let my
00:02:40
friends and family know that i'd be
00:02:41
offline for the week
00:02:44
without further ado let's time travel
00:02:47
[Music]
00:03:14
[Applause]
00:03:20
hello i've woken up it is day one of
00:03:22
time traveling september 8 1952. last
00:03:25
night i was trying to think like i need
00:03:27
some sort of alarm clock to wake me up
00:03:29
and i obviously can't use my phone and i
00:03:30
have two alarm clocks however there was
00:03:32
a problem this alarm clock i can
00:03:34
actually change the time and make it be
00:03:36
correct but the alarm doesn't work this
00:03:38
one
00:03:39
the alarm works but i can't change the
00:03:41
time for some reason so i set them both
00:03:44
this one i set so that it would actually
00:03:45
tell me the time this one i figured out
00:03:47
how many hours from the time it was
00:03:49
already set to i would need it to wake
00:03:50
me up and set the alarm accordingly also
00:03:53
this one makes a cute ticking sound so
00:03:55
that's fun first thing when i woke up i
00:03:57
wanted to go and check my phone um so
00:03:59
it's really weird that i couldn't do
00:04:01
that that's just kind of normally the
00:04:02
thing i do first thing in the morning so
00:04:05
i am going to make my bed and do my hair
00:04:08
and all that jazz
00:04:14
[Music]
00:04:27
i cannot quite brush my hair out yet
00:04:29
because this foam roller right here i
00:04:31
realized that that curl was not quite
00:04:33
dried properly so i had to stick it back
00:04:35
in i'll let it dry a little bit take it
00:04:37
out and then we can do the brush out i
00:04:38
might
00:04:39
use a blow dryer lately i've been
00:04:41
setting my hair with sugar water instead
00:04:43
of regular water because i heard that
00:04:44
ladies in the 40s would frequently use
00:04:47
sugar water as hairspray because it was
00:04:49
more accessible than actual hairspray
00:04:51
and it turns out that if i set my hair
00:04:53
with sugar water it stays just like ages
00:04:55
but it's still all nice and soft at the
00:04:57
ends it gets a little bit like hairspray
00:04:59
feeling up top here but down below the
00:05:02
curls are all like nice and soft this
00:05:04
does however mean that my foam rollers
00:05:06
and all of their pieces get sugar water
00:05:08
on them and they get all a little bit
00:05:09
tacky so after every one or two uses i
00:05:11
need to wash them so i think i'll
00:05:12
probably do that today but while this
00:05:14
curl is drying i am going to go and pick
00:05:16
out an outfit
00:05:18
[Music]
00:05:30
while my hair is cooling i have it
00:05:31
scrunched up into this little cap while
00:05:33
i'm waiting on this i'm gonna go and get
00:05:34
some breakfast started so at first i was
00:05:37
gonna make something for breakfast but
00:05:38
then i remember that i had pumpkin pie
00:05:40
in the fridge and so i just had that
00:05:41
instead and let me tell you it was
00:05:43
scrumptious
00:05:44
[Music]
00:05:45
all right it's time to try brushing out
00:05:47
my curls
00:05:53
[Music]
00:06:01
once my hair and makeup was done i
00:06:03
washed my foam rollers to get the sugar
00:06:05
stickiness off
00:06:06
[Music]
00:06:18
now that i can't just go onto youtube or
00:06:20
go scrolling through instagram i will
00:06:22
finally do some of those little things
00:06:23
that it would normally take me forever
00:06:24
to get around to one being dyeing this
00:06:27
sweater i recently got the sweater from
00:06:28
a secondhand boutique and it is
00:06:30
polyester so i don't know how well it's
00:06:32
going to die especially because i'm
00:06:33
using natural dyes i'm going to try
00:06:36
using avocado pits to dye this more pink
00:06:39
because it's not quite as pink as i want
00:06:40
it to be of course i only have one
00:06:42
avocado pit at the moment so that's
00:06:43
boiling on the stove right now but i
00:06:45
will also add some cranberry juice into
00:06:47
that to intensify the pinkness which i
00:06:49
already have in the fridge so there's a
00:06:50
very good chance this won't take being
00:06:52
that it's a synthetic material but it's
00:06:53
not like i'm wasting an avocado pit it
00:06:55
would be thrown away anyways so
00:06:57
let's give it a try okay so this has
00:06:59
been boiling for a bit and i'm not
00:07:01
seeing any pinkness
00:07:03
in the liquid so
00:07:05
we may just be seeing what we can do
00:07:07
with cranberry juice
00:07:09
i guess we'll see
00:07:10
[Music]
00:07:15
while my sweater is sitting in the
00:07:16
cranberry juice i am going to go and
00:07:18
walk to my mom's shop she has a
00:07:20
sustainable cleaning product shop and
00:07:22
it's very close so i am going to take my
00:07:24
dog for a little walk there
00:07:29
[Music]
00:07:36
i am back from my mom's shop and i
00:07:38
didn't film much because i wasn't there
00:07:39
for very long now that i'm home i'm
00:07:41
going to take my sweater out of the
00:07:42
cranberry juice and just pray
00:07:45
that anything happened
00:07:47
[Music]
00:07:59
it doesn't really look like anything
00:08:00
happened to the sweater but oh well
00:08:02
while the light is still nice outside
00:08:04
i'm going to go and do a little tending
00:08:05
to my garden it needs some watering and
00:08:07
possibly a little weeding then i'm going
00:08:09
to come inside and do a little bit of
00:08:10
sewing i have a big stack of clothes
00:08:12
behind my bed that only different like
00:08:14
alterations and fixes so that's the plan
00:08:20
we have something quite fun happening in
00:08:21
my garden i planted this oregano maybe
00:08:23
like a week ago and it's spreading
00:08:26
like crazy look at all these tiny little
00:08:28
baby oreganos
00:08:31
[Music]
00:08:37
one of the pieces of clothing behind my
00:08:38
bed was a jacket that had elbow patches
00:08:40
that didn't actually line up with my
00:08:42
elbows so i spent a little bit cutting
00:08:44
them off and sewing them back on in the
00:08:45
right place
00:08:50
[Music]
00:08:59
i finished fixing the elbow patches on
00:09:01
that jacket and now i'm going to put on
00:09:03
some pants and go for a little bike ride
00:09:05
to a local farmer's market and see if i
00:09:07
can find any pumpkins because it is now
00:09:10
september and i need something
00:09:13
in the spooky realm to fill the spooky
00:09:15
void in my soul and of course because
00:09:16
i'm me i will probably paint them pink
00:09:18
and or blue if i can find any
00:09:21
[Music]
00:09:23
the farmers market did have some
00:09:24
pumpkins but none were small enough for
00:09:26
me to carry home in my bike basket so i
00:09:28
didn't get any but i did get a cup of
00:09:29
corn to have for dinner
00:09:31
[Music]
00:09:35
when i got home i started making dinner
00:09:36
for myself i fried up some bits of
00:09:38
sausage with some rice as well as
00:09:39
boiling the corn
00:09:41
[Music]
00:09:43
then my mom and i decided that we wanted
00:09:45
to make some cookies but the recipe
00:09:46
called for some applesauce which we
00:09:48
didn't have so we decided to make some
00:09:49
applesauce using some not so good apples
00:09:51
we had in the fridge
00:09:53
okay so it is about 11 o'clock now and i
00:09:56
made myself some dinner and then me and
00:09:58
my mom started making some applesauce
00:10:00
and we used some of the applesauce to
00:10:01
make some cookies and then i started
00:10:04
cleaning the kitchen with her
00:10:05
and i wiped down all the counters and
00:10:07
the cupboards and everything so started
00:10:10
getting into a bit of a cleaning mode
00:10:12
does that ever happen to any of you
00:10:13
where like
00:10:14
you
00:10:15
notice something grimy and then suddenly
00:10:18
you just like
00:10:19
suddenly your vision sees everything
00:10:21
that is gross and you just have to fix
00:10:23
all of the dirty and clean everything i
00:10:25
was having a bit of that so there was a
00:10:27
lot of kitchen cleaning earlier my hair
00:10:29
today did not turn out quite as well as
00:10:31
it has in the past few days because the
00:10:33
foam rollers were a little bit damp for
00:10:34
me cleaning them so they were just a
00:10:36
little bit too wet to be as dry as they
00:10:38
needed to be by the time i woke up and
00:10:40
took them out so i think that these will
00:10:41
be able to last until tomorrow but the
00:10:43
day after i will need to reset them so
00:10:45
i'm going to start getting ready for bed
00:10:47
i'm going to put my pajamas on and all
00:10:48
that stuff and then i think i'm going to
00:10:50
start reading the wizard of oz because i
00:10:52
have loved the 1939 wizard of oz movie
00:10:55
since i was a very small child and yet i
00:10:57
have never read the book so i think that
00:10:58
that needs to change a little bit of a
00:11:00
reflection so far on day one i was very
00:11:03
very productive today not being able to
00:11:06
just like go and mindlessly scroll
00:11:07
through instagram has saved me so much
00:11:10
time i've done so much stuff today i did
00:11:12
some dusting in my room i vacuumed i
00:11:15
attempted to dye my sweater it didn't
00:11:17
work but you know i finally gave it a
00:11:18
try at least fixed the elbow patches on
00:11:20
my jacket went for a bike ride to the
00:11:22
farmer's market then i came home and
00:11:24
made some applesauce and i made some
00:11:25
cookies and i made some dinner for
00:11:27
myself i also attended to my garden so
00:11:29
yeah a very successful day one i feel
00:11:31
very refreshed so yeah it's been a very
00:11:34
successful day one of this time
00:11:35
traveling adventure and i will see you
00:11:37
tomorrow on september 9 1952
00:11:43
[Music]
00:11:58
yes
00:12:05
[Music]
00:12:17
it is now day two of this time travel
00:12:19
mission and today i think i'd like to
00:12:21
try and get my room really clean some
00:12:23
tidying up but also some dusting and
00:12:26
some scrubbing possibly some window
00:12:28
washing and i think
00:12:30
i might consider recovering my cushion
00:12:33
so yeah i'm gonna turn the radio back on
00:12:34
and get some cleaning going
00:12:38
[Applause]
00:12:39
[Music]
00:12:43
[Applause]
00:12:55
[Music]
00:12:59
oh
00:13:22
um
00:13:29
[Applause]
00:13:36
[Music]
00:13:52
it's now maybe four o'clock and i have
00:13:54
cleaned my room very thoroughly and it
00:13:56
feels so satisfying there are still a
00:13:58
few things that need to be done in this
00:14:00
room for one thing most of my furniture
00:14:02
does need repainting but that's a
00:14:04
project for another time the other thing
00:14:05
is my windows they may look relatively
00:14:07
clean on camera but the outside of the
00:14:09
windows is quite disgusting my room is
00:14:12
on the upstairs floor of this house and
00:14:13
so if i want to access the outside of
00:14:15
the windows then i need to get a ladder
00:14:17
and i've been procrastinating this for a
00:14:19
very long time so maybe today is the day
00:14:22
i've had some lunch and i think i'm
00:14:23
gonna go and get the ladder and see if
00:14:26
it allows me to reach the outside of my
00:14:27
window and another thing that i also
00:14:29
would like to do is clean while i have
00:14:32
like this little mat here that i would
00:14:33
like to clean but most importantly my
00:14:35
cap that i put over top of my foam
00:14:37
rollers when i'm curling my hair it has
00:14:39
a slightly sticky sugary residue on it
00:14:42
from the sugar water so i think it does
00:14:44
definitely need a clean so before i go
00:14:46
outside to start cleaning the windows
00:14:47
i'm going to put this into some sort of
00:14:49
dish with soap and water to let it sit
00:14:51
for a while
00:14:53
[Music]
00:15:05
[Applause]
00:15:06
[Music]
00:15:08
i finished cleaning my window and it has
00:15:10
never been cleaner i also took my head
00:15:12
cap and my mat out of that bowl that had
00:15:14
the soap and water rinsed them out and
00:15:16
put them on the clothes line now a
00:15:18
couple more things to do i have plenty
00:15:21
of throw pillows on my bed but i'm not
00:15:23
exactly pleased with the fabric that is
00:15:24
covering all of them my color theme is
00:15:26
pink and blue but this is
00:15:28
a little bit too intense for my liking
00:15:30
in this particular room and this is not
00:15:32
exactly the shade of blue that i'd like
00:15:34
so i'm gonna go and take a look at my
00:15:36
fabric stash and see what i have to
00:15:37
recover these cushions
00:15:43
[Music]
00:16:02
it is now around 8 30 ish and i have
00:16:04
recovered three of the pillows i have a
00:16:07
light pink one a light blue one and this
00:16:09
beautiful rosy one i absolutely love
00:16:11
this fabric i am going to have a shower
00:16:13
to get the sugar water and the set of my
00:16:15
hair so that i can reset it last night i
00:16:17
read around the first third of the
00:16:19
wizard of oz and i am very much enjoying
00:16:21
it after my shower i think i'm going to
00:16:23
continue reading the wizard of oz and
00:16:24
let my hair naturally dry a little bit
00:16:27
and then i'll finish drying it with a
00:16:28
blow
00:16:30
[Music]
00:16:35
was dryer like it before and i don't
00:16:38
care there will be anymore
00:16:43
[Music]
00:16:49
all right it is very very late but i
00:16:51
finished reading the wizard of oz while
00:16:52
i was setting my hair and i very much
00:16:54
enjoyed it and i'm definitely going to
00:16:56
start reading the sequel tomorrow so i
00:16:59
guess a bit of a recap of the day i very
00:17:01
thoroughly cleaned my room went through
00:17:03
the drawers in my desk got rid of all of
00:17:05
those clothes that needed like mending
00:17:07
and washing and stuff from behind my bed
00:17:10
they're no longer chilling back there
00:17:12
which is good also cleaned my window and
00:17:14
watered my garden the cleaning took most
00:17:16
of my day but i consider that to be an
00:17:18
incredibly productive day because my
00:17:19
room is so incredibly clean right now
00:17:21
it's so satisfying so yeah tomorrow is
00:17:23
day three and we'll start doing the
00:17:24
laundry the 1950s way i have one piece
00:17:27
of clothing that was behind my bed that
00:17:29
still needs mending specifically it's a
00:17:31
blue dress sitting on my desk right now
00:17:33
and i will mend that tomorrow today was
00:17:35
another very successful day of our time
00:17:36
traveling mission and i will see you
00:17:38
tomorrow on day three september 10th
00:17:40
1952
00:17:42
[Music]
00:17:47
it is day three and i have been greatly
00:17:50
procrastinating properly starting my day
00:17:52
um because i started my period today and
00:17:55
i do not feel particularly good but
00:17:57
i have been procrastinating by starting
00:18:00
to read the sequel of the wizard of oz
00:18:01
and it is incredibly weird and i am
00:18:03
sincerely enjoying it but it is already
00:18:05
the afternoon
00:18:07
and i still haven't even like gotten
00:18:09
dressed and done my hair so i'm gonna do
00:18:10
that and the laundry still needs to be
00:18:12
done so i'm going to make my bed and
00:18:13
start getting ready
00:18:17
[Music]
00:18:20
[Applause]
00:18:22
[Music]
00:18:28
[Music]
00:18:37
so i don't actually have that much
00:18:38
laundry i just have this basket here um
00:18:41
and it includes some laundry that is not
00:18:43
mine because i needed to pat it up a
00:18:44
little so i'm not exactly doing this out
00:18:46
of necessity i'm doing it because i want
00:18:48
to have the experience of doing laundry
00:18:50
the way it would have been done in the
00:18:52
50s because i do have a relatively small
00:18:54
amount i think i'm just going gonna wash
00:18:55
it all by hand it feels like a bit of a
00:18:57
waste to just put this small amount of
00:18:59
laundry in the washing machine by the
00:19:01
50s a lot of people would have a washing
00:19:03
machine they wouldn't be like the
00:19:04
washing machines we have today they're
00:19:06
much more simplistic but a lot of people
00:19:08
would not have a washer and dryer so
00:19:10
plenty of people would wash their
00:19:12
clothes in the washing machine and then
00:19:13
air dry it so i'm going to divide this
00:19:15
basket of clothes between darks and
00:19:17
lights and then wash them in a tub and
00:19:19
then rinse them twice then wring them
00:19:21
out really well and hang them on the
00:19:23
line
00:19:24
[Music]
00:19:31
[Music]
00:19:41
once i had the laundry hanging to dry i
00:19:43
read the sequel to the wizard of oz for
00:19:45
a little while then i started mending
00:19:47
that blue dress that was sitting on my
00:19:48
desk
00:19:52
i originally made this dress to wear to
00:19:54
a winter formal that was happening at my
00:19:55
high school but then because of the
00:19:57
plague it was cancelled so i never
00:19:59
finished doing the last alteration
00:20:02
by that time the laundry was dry and i
00:20:04
took it down to fold the clothes that
00:20:05
didn't need ironing
00:20:11
it's starting to get quite dim out but
00:20:13
there is still some light so i'd like to
00:20:14
go and get some apples from my apple
00:20:16
tree in the backyard and perhaps make an
00:20:18
apple pie
00:20:21
[Applause] [Music]
00:20:39
it's now about 10 45 and i finished
00:20:41
making the apple pie the crust is not
00:20:43
particularly delicious because i had to
00:20:45
make my own rice flour because i didn't
00:20:47
have enough of store-bought stuff and it
00:20:49
tastes like i ground up rice and turn it
00:20:52
into a crust it's not great but the
00:20:53
filling of the pie is
00:20:55
so i shall still eat it anyways i'm
00:20:57
going to put some pajamas on and wrap up
00:20:59
my curls then i think i'm going to write
00:21:01
a to-do list for tomorrow and then i
00:21:04
will read a little bit of the sequel to
00:21:06
the wizard of oz before i go to bed and
00:21:08
that will conclude day three of this
00:21:09
time travel mission and i can't believe
00:21:11
we're already more than halfway through
00:21:12
i think it's been another very
00:21:14
successful and productive day and i'm
00:21:16
excited for day four
00:21:18
[Music]
00:21:40
all right it is september 11th 1952 and
00:21:43
today i'd like to do a little more work
00:21:45
on my bedroom you see those two picture
00:21:48
frames up there i would like to paint
00:21:50
them both white so that they match my
00:21:52
furniture and the trim the black one
00:21:54
right there
00:21:55
is made of metal so i don't know how
00:21:57
well the paint is going to stick to it
00:21:58
but i'm going to try my best
00:22:03
[Music]
00:22:13
okay i went to the thrift store a minute
00:22:15
ago and i didn't get anything but it's
00:22:17
raining outside and i couldn't find my
00:22:18
umbrella so my hair is ruined oh well
00:22:21
now i would like to do another painting
00:22:22
related thing this cabinet here this
00:22:25
lining
00:22:26
that is like behind the windows i put
00:22:28
that in a long long time ago when i had
00:22:31
some of this wallpaper on my accent wall
00:22:34
um but i don't anymore so it doesn't
00:22:36
actually like tie the room together so i
00:22:38
would like to paint some brown paper
00:22:40
using the same colors that i used on my
00:22:43
wall
00:22:44
to line those
00:22:45
so that's what i'm gonna do
00:22:48
[Music]
00:23:05
while we
00:23:13
it's now gotten dark out it's about 8 30
00:23:15
and i would like to get out my ironing
00:23:17
board and iron these two garments from
00:23:19
yesterday most of the clothes didn't
00:23:21
actually need ironing they were already
00:23:22
fine but these two are a little bit
00:23:24
wrinkly then once i've done that i'm
00:23:25
going to start reading the third wizard
00:23:27
of oz book osma of oz and then i will
00:23:30
start setting my hair whilst i read this
00:23:32
can we just talk for a second about
00:23:34
how beautiful
00:23:36
this artwork is this is such a gorgeous
00:23:38
book my dad has i believe all of the
00:23:40
wizard of oz books and most of them
00:23:42
belonged to i think my great great aunt
00:23:46
then after that they were given to my
00:23:47
grandma and my grandma as a child
00:23:50
colored in all the pictures then they
00:23:52
were given to my dad and now i get to
00:23:54
read them this particular book and i
00:23:55
believe most of them were printed
00:23:57
sometime in the 1910s anyways enough
00:24:00
ranting about these beautiful books but
00:24:01
i am very excited to continue reading
00:24:03
them now let's iron some clothes very
00:24:05
quickly
00:24:10
and he calls me baby
00:24:16
[Music]
00:24:22
all right i'm just about to go to bed
00:24:24
and tomorrow is the last day that is
00:24:26
very weird it feels like it's been a lot
00:24:28
longer than that but at the same time
00:24:30
i can't believe it's already been four
00:24:32
days it has once again been a relatively
00:24:34
productive day maybe not quite as much
00:24:36
as the previous days but i'm very happy
00:24:37
with the small alterations to my room
00:24:40
there you can kind of see the lining in
00:24:42
my corner cabinet i think it really ties
00:24:45
everything together with my accent wall
00:24:46
and stuff so yeah i will see you
00:24:48
tomorrow on september 12 1952 the final
00:24:51
day
00:24:53
[Music]
00:25:04
[Applause]
00:25:12
[Music]
00:25:26
it is the final day of living in 1952. i
00:25:29
must say i am very eager to see my
00:25:31
notifications on my phone and computer
00:25:34
because if i was living in 1952
00:25:37
more people would be like
00:25:40
you know dropping by or sending me
00:25:42
letters or calling me on the phone
00:25:44
people don't really do that these days
00:25:46
so i've not had much contact with people
00:25:49
i know outside of this household so as
00:25:51
far as what i want to do today i'm
00:25:53
considering going to the thrift store
00:25:55
i'm not totally sure something that does
00:25:57
need doing but i really don't want to do
00:25:59
because it's a lot of work is scrubbing
00:26:01
my bike my bike is actually from the
00:26:04
1940s and something has happened to the
00:26:06
paint it's black um so that it kind of
00:26:09
like
00:26:10
comes off in like this black grime onto
00:26:13
your clothes if you touch it so every
00:26:15
time i want to ride my bike um if i'm
00:26:17
wearing a skirt it has to be my painting
00:26:19
skirt so that when it like gets all over
00:26:21
the bike it will get grimy and i won't
00:26:23
care as much otherwise i wear my pants
00:26:26
of which i only have one pair and i
00:26:27
would really like to not need to worry
00:26:30
about that and just wear whatever i
00:26:31
wanted while i rode my bike but
00:26:33
it's so much work to scrub this bike
00:26:35
down i'd have to take like a bristled
00:26:37
brush and give it a really good
00:26:39
scrubbing and it seems like a lot of
00:26:41
work but i might just need to do that
00:26:43
today so far i have been
00:26:46
largely just sitting and listening to
00:26:47
the radio quite honestly because vintage
00:26:49
music is just such a wonderful thing
00:26:52
another thing that needs doing is the
00:26:54
bathroom floor at least needs a sweep
00:26:56
ideally an actual washing so i think
00:26:59
right now i'm gonna go and sweep it
00:27:00
because that'll only take a second and
00:27:02
then i guess we'll see so i scrubbed the
00:27:04
bathroom floor and then because i
00:27:06
already had like the scrub brush and
00:27:07
everything out i thought why don't i
00:27:08
scrub the kitchen floor and so i did
00:27:10
and now i am most definitely not going
00:27:12
to scrub my bike because holy
00:27:15
all of that scrubbing was very tiring
00:27:17
then i was going to go to the thrift
00:27:18
store but then it occurred to me that
00:27:20
it's sunday so the thrift stores are
00:27:21
closed so i think that i'm going to just
00:27:24
sit back and read my wizard of oz book
00:27:25
because i'm almost done i read way too
00:27:28
much of it last night and stayed up
00:27:29
really late but it's very good so i
00:27:31
would like to finish it
00:27:35
well i have finished reading osmo of oz
00:27:38
if you have not read any of the wizard
00:27:39
of oz books which many people have not i
00:27:41
highly recommend that you do
00:27:42
interestingly enough much of the writing
00:27:44
is not like that good like there's a few
00:27:47
actual like places where it's like man
00:27:49
you kind of chose the wrong grammatical
00:27:51
word there for the sentence to properly
00:27:53
make sense like there's some mistakes
00:27:54
but the story and the concept is so good
00:27:57
and whimsical that i just you need to
00:28:00
read them they're amazing now i would
00:28:01
like to go to the grocery store to buy
00:28:03
some candy because
00:28:05
there's no candy in the house and i want
00:28:07
some candy it's quite simple also
00:28:08
there's an adorable vintage candy dish
00:28:10
on my desk and i think it deserves to be
00:28:12
filled with candy i'm gonna see if i can
00:28:13
try and find some pink and blue candy to
00:28:15
match my bedroom just for the heck of it
00:28:17
so yeah i will see you with some candy
00:28:20
apparently it's incredibly difficult to
00:28:22
find pink and blue candies so wine gums
00:28:25
will have to do they're delicious
00:28:26
anyways i also went for a little walk
00:28:28
and picked these beautiful purple
00:28:29
flowers
00:28:30
i think i'm going to trim the stems and
00:28:31
then put them on my bedside table oh
00:28:33
these big ones smell amazing it's been a
00:28:35
relatively chill day which i'm very
00:28:37
happy with so
00:28:39
i think that now i will just
00:28:41
probably feed the dog and then sit and
00:28:44
listen to the radio for a while
00:28:46
[Music]
00:28:54
it's now around 8 o'clock and i decided
00:28:56
to go to my dad's office um it's one of
00:28:59
his employees birthdays tomorrow so we
00:29:00
decided to decorate the office so that's
00:29:02
how i've spent like around the last hour
00:29:04
and a balloon blew up in my face and my
00:29:07
right ear went fuzzy for a bit it's
00:29:09
still not entirely back to normal but
00:29:11
yeah that was fun and i think i will
00:29:13
probably start reading the fourth wizard
00:29:16
of oz book i can't believe how many oz
00:29:17
books i've managed to read in the past
00:29:19
five days i am also a little bit hungry
00:29:21
so i think that i'll make myself some
00:29:22
porridge and then i'll sit down and read
00:29:32
[Music]
00:29:42
i just finished getting ready for bed
00:29:43
and i also just finished reading the
00:29:45
fourth oz book it was very enjoyable
00:29:47
there were one or two parts where i
00:29:48
noticed a bit of inconsistency with the
00:29:50
previous books but it was still very fun
00:29:52
to read and that brings us to the end of
00:29:53
the last day tomorrow i will check my
00:29:55
notifications and re-enter the modern
00:29:57
world and once i've done that i'll talk
00:29:59
about how i felt about the experience
00:30:01
this week and just how it went overall
00:30:02
but right now i am still in 1952 and i'm
00:30:05
gonna go to bed and i will see you
00:30:06
tomorrow in the modern world
00:30:10
all right i've reentered the modern
00:30:12
world i have checked my notifications
00:30:14
and my emails and everything and let's
00:30:16
talk about this experience this week it
00:30:17
was very interesting so first thing
00:30:20
this was not as hard as i expected it to
00:30:22
be quite honestly because
00:30:24
i thought i would have a greater desire
00:30:26
to use my phone and my computer and
00:30:28
stuff and there were a couple moments
00:30:29
where i was like oh i really wish i
00:30:30
could look this up or something like
00:30:32
that but
00:30:33
it was not that difficult and i actually
00:30:35
really enjoyed myself most the time
00:30:36
there were plenty of moments where i was
00:30:38
like sitting in my room listening to the
00:30:40
radio and i felt like i actually was
00:30:43
time traveling because it felt so real
00:30:46
if you'd like me to try this again with
00:30:47
some other year please let me know in
00:30:48
the comments because i definitely
00:30:49
consider doing this again this morning
00:30:51
when i woke up i did go to my phone to
00:30:53
see what notifications i had but i
00:30:55
didn't spend that long on there and then
00:30:58
i actually very quickly found myself
00:30:59
thinking
00:31:00
that i missed listening to the radio and
00:31:02
so i turned my vintage radio back on and
00:31:06
i think this was a really good
00:31:07
experience for me because i feel i feel
00:31:09
like i found more things that i enjoy i
00:31:11
didn't generally listen to music much
00:31:14
before this i did occasionally but i
00:31:16
think that having this vintage radio
00:31:17
program on
00:31:18
is really great to just be able to turn
00:31:20
it on anytime and not know what song is
00:31:22
going to come on it's actually quite
00:31:23
exciting it's also a great way for me to
00:31:25
discover new songs i have written down a
00:31:27
list of songs that i heard over this
00:31:29
past week that i'd like to try and find
00:31:31
again i also found that this week i was
00:31:33
far more productive than i normally am
00:31:35
not being able to go onto my phone or
00:31:36
computer or watch shows or anything
00:31:39
i found time to do the things that i
00:31:41
have just been procrastinating for a
00:31:42
long time and giving my room a really
00:31:44
thorough clean i probably wouldn't have
00:31:46
done that this week if i still had my
00:31:48
phone and computer my room is cleaner
00:31:50
and also the house outside of my bedroom
00:31:52
is cleaner because i found times to do
00:31:55
some of the cleaning things that i've
00:31:56
been meaning to do for a little while
00:31:58
and that have been needing to get done
00:31:59
around the house i also feel more
00:32:01
inspired to read because i have read
00:32:03
four books in the last five days which
00:32:06
blows my mind because i am normally not
00:32:08
that much of a reader if i am really
00:32:10
interested in a book i can read it very
00:32:12
very quickly but
00:32:14
normally i'm like a rereader i've read
00:32:16
lord of the rings and harry potter many
00:32:17
many times but i don't read tons of a
00:32:19
big variety of books but i read four
00:32:22
books that i've never read before this
00:32:23
week and i want to continue reading them
00:32:25
i think that i will continue to carry
00:32:27
some of this into my regular life
00:32:29
because having less time on my phone and
00:32:31
just sitting and appreciating doing
00:32:33
nothing or just sitting and listening to
00:32:35
the radio i you forget sometimes
00:32:38
how fun that can be it's so simple and
00:32:42
it's so enjoyable of course as far as
00:32:44
the way i dress and stuff this made
00:32:45
basically no difference for me i already
00:32:47
wear 1940s 1950s fashion almost every
00:32:50
day when i'm not wearing that i'm
00:32:52
wearing sort of like an elvish lord of
00:32:53
the rings inspired thing but most days
00:32:55
this is already what i wear something
00:32:57
that was a little bit annoying about
00:32:58
this that wouldn't have actually been a
00:33:00
problem if i was living in 1952 is that
00:33:03
people didn't really contact me because
00:33:06
they normally expect to be able to email
00:33:08
me or send me a dm or something like
00:33:10
that but if i was living in 1952 people
00:33:12
would have thought to actually call me
00:33:13
or send me a letter or something like
00:33:15
that and i do kind of wish that i had
00:33:17
that
00:33:18
more human contact from the outside
00:33:20
world i suppose if i had to do my
00:33:22
laundry the way that i did this week
00:33:23
forever it would probably get annoying
00:33:25
pretty quickly so that i suppose is the
00:33:27
end of my little time travel adventure i
00:33:29
had a lot of fun every era has its flaws
00:33:31
but they also all have their good points
00:33:33
obviously if i didn't have the internet
00:33:34
i wouldn't be able to share this
00:33:35
experience with all of you in this video
00:33:37
wouldn't exist so i'm very glad to live
00:33:39
in the year that i do but it's still
00:33:40
really fun to do this little experiment
00:33:42
and try seeing what positives come from
00:33:44
different eras future miranda popping in
00:33:46
here real quick i just wanted to say
00:33:48
that i'm not trying to pretend that
00:33:49
there aren't terrible parts and terrible
00:33:51
events in every point in history but i
00:33:54
think we often focus so much on those
00:33:56
negative parts i just want to bring
00:33:57
attention to the fact that there is
00:33:59
beautiful things to be found in every
00:34:00
part of history as well and we sometimes
00:34:02
need to be reminded of those for example
00:34:04
the simple joy of just sitting down and
00:34:06
listening to the radio so yeah that's
00:34:08
all i wanted to say back to past miranda
00:34:10
that would be it for today i hope you
00:34:11
enjoyed this video please comment rate
00:34:13
subscribe and all that jazz and i'll see
00:34:15
you guys next time bye
00:34:18
but
00:34:20
another thing that was very very small
00:34:22
that made a difference for me is this
00:34:24
this lovely cloth it makes a little
00:34:26
ticking sound and i really really like
00:34:28
the sound of the ticking and it also
00:34:29
turns out that it's very useful when i'm
00:34:31
trying to sleep and people outside of my
00:34:33
room are being loud or watching a show
00:34:35
this kind of helps to drown it out a
00:34:36
little bit and it's not nearly as
00:34:37
annoying as i expected it to be
