Одесса 1918 года Here I present an album of original photographs of the city of Odessa, taken in 1918. The photographs are historically interesting as Ukraine was facing great turmoil and uncertainty during this time. The February Revolution of 1917 had encouraged many ethnic groups within the old empire to demand greater autonomy and self-determination. Among these was Ukraine FGollowing the Bolshevik Revolution in October 1917, Ukraine declared itself independent of Russia on January 22 1918 and broke ties with Russia.The German and Austro-Hungarian armies then drove the Bolsheviks out of Ukraine, taking Kiev on March 1. Later a truce was signed between Russia and Germany known as the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, which formally ended hostilities on the eastern Front of World War One, leaving Ukraine in a German sphere of influence..........
