Мультфильм Мадагаскар 2005 Обитатели нью-йоркского зоопарка – лев Алекс, гиппопотамиха Глория, зебра Марти и жираф Мелман – довольны своей жизнью и не мечтают о родине, пока компания пингвинов не вносит смуту в их ряды. Привыкшие к комфорту и уходу, не все звери довольны жизненными переменами: зебра Марти вполне счастлив, что оказался на воле, а вот льву Алексу хочется вернуться в Нью-Йорк. Заключив договоренность с местными лемурами об охране их от фоссов, Алекс получает заботу и удобства, но не мясо, к которому он привык. Утолить его голод помогают пингвины, которые кормят льва рыбой.
