rarely coincides with their effective00:01:57
range against maneuvering targets like00:01:59
enemy Fighters the truth is the maximum00:02:02
reported ranges for these weapons00:02:04
includes two distinct phases of flight00:02:07
the first is the powered flight phase00:02:09
which is exactly what you might think it00:02:12
starts when the missile's motor ignites00:02:14
and continues until all the fuel on00:02:16
board has been expended which may happen00:02:18

addressing and that's the possibility00:13:37
that this weapon will come with a00:13:39
multimode Seeker you see today's00:13:41
air-to-air missiles usually come with00:13:43
one of two types of guidance systems00:13:46
either an infrared or heat seeking00:13:48
guidance system or a radar Seeker in00:13:51
fact today's most advanced radar guided00:13:53
weapons actually carry a miniature00:13:55
active electronically scanned array00:13:56
radar right in their nose but looks as00:13:59
though Lockheed Martin actually intends00:14:01
to stuff both of those forms of advanced00:14:03
guidance systems into this one missile00:14:06
giving it the ability to detect and00:14:08
track targets using its onboard radar00:14:10
seeker at long range as well as the00:14:13
ability to track those targets using00:14:15
their heat signatures as well which00:14:17
could be incredibly useful when engaging00:14:19
stealth aircraft at long range which may00:14:21
not always produce a sufficient radar00:14:23
return to guide the weapon in and00:14:25
depending on how advanced the hardware00:14:27
is inside this weapon it may even be00:14:29
able to fuse those two disparate data00:14:32
sets into a single Battlefield00:14:34
perspective allowing it to pull data00:14:36
from both radar and infrared Seekers to00:14:38
make sure that it stays locked onto the00:14:40
aircraft regardless of what types of00:14:42
countermeasures that aircraft May employ00:14:45
now not all that long ago the Air Force00:14:47
said that they expect a260 production to00:14:50
Eclipse that of the amam by 2026 but I'm00:14:53
not sure if they mean standard amam00:14:56
production figures which usually floats00:14:58
at between 500 to 800 missiles a year or00:15:01
more recent amram production which has00:15:03
ballooned up to 1,200 or more missiles00:15:06
per year as conflicts continue to emerge00:15:08
