00:00:17
hey what's up Turtles it's Crick here
00:00:19
with blackowl outdoors and today I'm
00:00:21
going to be doing a video on how to put
00:00:23
a hood in a wool blanket and basically a
00:00:27
wool blanket can be worn as an article
00:00:29
of clothing as an outer layer as a as a
00:00:32
added um layer of insulation protection
00:00:35
from a fire specifically what I'm going
00:00:37
to be showing today is how to put a hood
00:00:40
in the blanket as it's being worn over
00:00:46
you here's the wool blanket I'm going to
00:00:48
be using for today's video this is a
00:00:51
Rothco blend I'm not exactly sure of the
00:00:55
dimensions probably 80 in change by you
00:00:58
know 60 in change which most wool
00:01:00
blankets are um but I'm going be using
00:01:03
this for today's video and what you're
00:01:05
going to need besides a wool blanket for
00:01:08
this is a button rock or a
00:01:14
button you're going to need some sort of
00:01:16
hard object that does not have any sharp
00:01:19
edges because it could damage the
00:01:21
blanket if you try to use something
00:01:22
that's sharp and you're going to need a
00:01:24
small piece of cordage because we're
00:01:26
going to be using a clove pitch to start
00:01:30
I need to unroll the
00:01:36
blanket and I want to have it
00:01:38
lengthwise held parallel to the ground
00:01:43
once I've established
00:01:46
that I want to hold it over me by sort
00:01:49
of judging how much is in each hand I
00:01:51
want to center it over
00:01:53
me and again get some slack if you will
00:01:56
over top of my
00:01:58
head
00:02:01
give myself some that's going to come
00:02:02
down looks like it's going to hang maybe
00:02:03
a little bit too far but that's what I
00:02:05
want when I get this
00:02:09
started and once you have it here it's
00:02:11
going to feel like the Blanket's going
00:02:12
to roll off of you so I'm going to put
00:02:14
my head down and sort of throw a little
00:02:16
bit more material material over my
00:02:23
shoulders okay so now I'm at this
00:02:25
position and I'm comfortable with it now
00:02:27
at this point I'm going to sort of pinch
00:02:29
in front of me and establish where I
00:02:32
want the button to be in the
00:02:41
blanket okay I'm happy with that I'm
00:02:43
going to put it about right here where
00:02:45
my hands
00:02:46
pressing and what I like to do at this
00:02:49
point is sort of double the blanket on
00:02:52
itself see here I'm going to fold it
00:02:54
over here on this
00:02:56
side
00:02:58
and
00:03:00
here's the edge of the
00:03:02
blanket right here I'm going to fold
00:03:05
that
00:03:10
again over itself and you know it's
00:03:13
probably not necessary I just like to do
00:03:15
that um it feel like it gives a little
00:03:17
bit more structural support and sort of
00:03:20
a little better fit around my
00:03:22
face and now at this point I'm going to
00:03:25
need
00:03:26
to um grab the Button Rock and from the
00:03:29
underside it needs to go through both
00:03:34
layers so I'm going to overlap the layer
00:03:36
this is going to be underneath this is
00:03:38
going to overlap over top of
00:03:53
it and right here's the
00:03:58
button
00:04:00
now at this point I'm going to grab my
00:04:03
cordage and put a clo pitch in
00:04:08
this and this would definitely be easier
00:04:11
if you had someone helping you so you
00:04:13
could just hold it and second pair of
00:04:15
hands will make this much quicker and
00:04:16
it's cold right now so everything takes
00:04:18
a little bit longer but I'm going to try
00:04:19
to do this all at the same
00:04:25
time clo
00:04:28
hitch
00:04:45
now make sure the button is pressed up
00:04:47
top here go around to on below where the
00:04:50
button is in the blanket and pull this
00:04:58
tight
00:05:12
and that's all there is to it now I have
00:05:13
this little extra material hanging over
00:05:15
me now I can just fold the hood back
00:05:19
up and get a really nice
00:05:26
lay it doesn't feel restricting at all
00:05:29
if I I want a little bit extra you know
00:05:31
if it's really windy I can put this back
00:05:32
down really block the
00:05:35
wind put it back
00:05:37
up and that's all there is to it now I
00:05:40
can do a couple more modifications to
00:05:42
really get this blanket around me using
00:05:44
a belt if you will but just like this is
00:05:46
really comfortable it takes the cold off
00:05:48
very uh you know pretty fast and what's
00:05:51
nice about wo
00:05:53
blankets put the hood down is that if
00:05:57
say I'm hiking for the day and I know
00:05:59
I'm going to be going to a fire and I
00:06:01
want to wear synthetic clothes just
00:06:04
because of weight they're they're
00:06:05
lighter than wool um in the winter time
00:06:08
um specifically speaking for the winter
00:06:09
time and I want to wear synthetics while
00:06:10
I'm hiking all day but I know I'm going
00:06:12
to be hanging out by a fire and
00:06:14
synthetics are not great to have around
00:06:16
a fire because of Embers putting holes
00:06:18
in it so it be really great um and which
00:06:20
I do also is carry a w blanket for it's
00:06:23
many uses but also because then if I'm
00:06:26
wearing uh complete synthetics I want to
00:06:28
hang out next to the fire I can then
00:06:30
just put on the wool blanket and it can
00:06:31
protect all of my you know expensive
00:06:33
potentially expensive synthetic layers
00:06:35
and I'm be doing more videos on a couple
00:06:38
more modifications as wearing a wool
00:06:40
blanket as an outer layer but that's
00:06:42
basically is to it in um putting a hood
00:06:44
in a wool
00:06:48
blanket this this Crick signing out with
00:06:50
black outoors later
