00:00:48
my favorite part of that is the special
00:00:51
is when thomas gets the jerry mathers
00:00:53
treatment there it's like that that's very exciting
00:00:57
jerry mathers has the beaver
00:01:00
and that gave it a dramatic one uh uh
00:01:03
thank you thomas for for joining us for
00:01:05
uh as a
00:01:06
a recurring special guest we're we're
00:01:09
very excited so
00:01:10
yeah we're playing call of cthulhu and
00:01:13
we are playing
00:01:14
in the old west it is i've al
00:01:17
god dog 1880 i think we finally landed
00:01:20
on uh 15 years after the end of the civil
00:01:24
war 10 years since the transcontinental
00:01:27
railroad has been completed
00:01:29
so uh it is well it's still relatively
00:01:32
new that people can get places
00:01:35
in any kind of speed uh you are all
00:01:39
uh oh did we say 1870 i can't remember
00:01:42
me i have to age my character an extra
00:01:45
10 years otherwise
00:01:47
no 1870 will go with it five years since
00:01:49
the civil war
00:01:51
uh the country is still uh dealing with
00:01:54
it and um it's now it's about
00:01:58
one year since the trans-continental
00:01:59
railroad has
00:02:01
uh been completed uh so it is
00:02:04
exceedingly new uh in utah and
00:02:08
you five uh pinkerton agents
00:02:11
who all have a cover job or in some
00:02:15
cases a real job
00:02:16
uh that is to not admit that you are
00:02:19
pinkerton agents
00:02:21
have been uh traveling to uh you've been
00:02:24
sent
00:02:25
to the town of stillwater colorado
00:02:28
uh it is somewhere north of the of
00:02:32
uh uh rocky mountain what is now rocky
00:02:35
mountain national park
00:02:36
somewhere up there um you are in the
00:02:40
you are definitely in altitude it is
00:02:42
higher up
00:02:44
uh it is a mining town it is a boom town
00:02:47
and you have been sent to find
00:02:50
three pinkerton agents who had gone
00:02:52
there previously
00:02:54
looking for a uh
00:02:58
essentially hunting a bounty on a
00:03:00
confederate uh
00:03:02
leader who had fled the south and hid
00:03:06
in uh in colorado and and those three
00:03:10
pinkerton agents
00:03:11
disappeared and so
00:03:14
um you are headed to this town which was
00:03:16
kind of the last place
00:03:18
that they were ever involved uh before
00:03:21
we get to character introductions
00:03:23
it's time for america's favorite segment
00:03:26
watch amy do where's the abacus is the
00:03:28
abacus i was told
00:03:30
oh i've gotta practice a little i'm
00:03:34
i can't work under these conditions yeah
00:03:36
two weeks
00:03:37
well i'll have a good night this is i
00:03:39
came here for one thing
00:03:40
yeah that we're just here for amy
00:03:43
teaches us all how to use an abacus
00:03:45
we're just here for math okay i'll do my
00:03:47
own special segment
00:03:49
and and put it on youtube i get another
00:03:50
video there we go
00:03:52
and follow us now as amy does math
00:03:56
i think it could take off we need like a
00:03:58
fly-in you know
00:03:59
chiron oh my goodness
00:04:03
okay so i want to thank everybody
00:04:04
especially j matthews85
00:04:07
just a little not a lot just a little
00:04:10
thank you for a thousand bits for ezra
00:04:12
my second favorite twitch user
00:04:16
um then i would like to thank slightly
00:04:18
talk
00:04:19
for giving a thousand bits to the
00:04:20
players thank you very much
00:04:22
yeah among my least favorite twitch
00:04:25
users
00:04:27
well on the one we still got you yeah um
00:04:30
and then tamagotora
00:04:31
likes to um give money to both parties
00:04:35
by giving 500 to ezra and 500 to the
00:04:39
players
00:04:40
take a stand i know it's very corporate
00:04:42
up here us
00:04:45
please no uh uh you can always give us
00:04:48
bits that is a wonderful thing to follow
00:04:50
toro we so appreciate it
00:04:52
and then our last one is fire hawk
00:04:54
shadow child
00:04:56
it's a long name but it's also an
00:04:57
awesome name um 500
00:04:59
to the players to prolly because it
00:05:01
prolongs suffering
00:05:02
[Laughter]
00:05:04
nice that sounds about right i don't
00:05:07
know
00:05:08
i you know marriage
00:05:16
uh i want to give a a a special shout
00:05:19
out to my number one
00:05:20
favorite twitch user the baroness who
00:05:23
continues
00:05:24
to find ways to bring her
00:05:28
some would say evil i would say
00:05:29
wonderful influence into quests and
00:05:31
chaos and she
00:05:32
is now running our new she's running our
00:05:35
newsletter and she has a column
00:05:37
in our newsletter where she's asking
00:05:39
questions and i hope people
00:05:41
you know start a dialogue there let's
00:05:42
let's uh keep that going i think that's
00:05:44
a really neat addition to have that bit
00:05:46
of
00:05:47
of chat if you're not part of it jump on
00:05:50
our newsletter jump on our discord
00:05:52
uh we have a wonderful discord community
00:05:54
uh that talks about all the silliness
00:05:56
that we do here
00:05:57
and many other things they um
00:06:00
the oh the last shout out has to be the
00:06:02
redacted report which is
00:06:04
uh an outstanding actual play podcast
00:06:07
that uh
00:06:08
some folks that you might recognize uh
00:06:10
are involved in
00:06:11
as well as some long time uh uh members
00:06:15
of our discord it is uh fantastic it's a
00:06:18
um it's it's a a radio play
00:06:21
actual play and it's so well done um
00:06:25
my favorite part of the pin clicks
00:06:26
personally that's my
00:06:28
well fortunately hopefully after the
00:06:30
episode that i'm currently working on
00:06:32
editing uh
00:06:33
tom had been persuaded to switch over to
00:06:35
a pencil instead of a pen
00:06:38
and i persuaded and and and by persuaded
00:06:40
i mean i told him
00:06:41
if if you do the pen click one more time
00:06:43
i'm coming to your office and stabbing
00:06:45
you with the patent
00:06:47
now you're gonna get that yeah yeah
00:06:50
far enough away from the camera that
00:06:51
that's fine oh no he's gonna be making
00:06:53
the sound effects with his mouth
00:06:55
click click click
00:07:01
and then really quickly deadboy42 thank
00:07:03
you so much another activator on our
00:07:05
discord
00:07:06
in our community so thank you community
00:07:08
a thousand to the players
00:07:09
if we can get a group yeehaw can we yeah
00:07:12
let's do it i want us to count down all
00:07:15
right
00:07:16
in five and three two one
00:07:23
wow that was a lot
00:07:26
you have to some of us were more
00:07:28
committed that than others you
00:07:30
have you have to be into it man
00:07:33
i i just got stuck in a rep production
00:07:36
of oklahoma
00:07:39
oklahoma where the sun don't shine
00:07:43
where the wind goes sleeping down the
00:07:45
plains
00:07:47
plains they had plants back then
00:07:50
man those are not the two people that i
00:07:52
expected to get into an argument about
00:07:54
uh
00:07:55
musical on this show
00:08:03
besides everybody knows that turn 40
00:08:06
folks should stick together as the
00:08:07
better song in oklahoma than the actual
00:08:09
title song don't know i
00:08:12
have no idea i've never seen it honestly
00:08:15
neither neither have i but i'm i feel
00:08:17
more shame in saying that because i'm a
00:08:19
theater person but there's a lot of
00:08:20
classic musicals i haven't seen i
00:08:22
haven't seen hello dolly
00:08:23
um oh man carol i know
00:08:26
what i know a little bit of behind the
00:08:30
scenes thing carol channing was actually my second
00:08:32
choice for the voice of the uh of the
00:08:34
duchess
00:08:36
jesus voices
00:08:40
here he's too excited to do it
00:08:43
that maybe that's aprilman senior
00:08:47
yeah he's right here it's good and
00:08:54
shout out to dead boy and dead boy's mom
00:08:58
i don't know that sounds weird to say
00:09:01
uh but uh uh thank you all for the bits
00:09:04
for your support
00:09:05
of everything we do here at quest and
00:09:07
chaos
00:09:08
uh it is uh i don't know you're all
00:09:11
glorious fools
00:09:12
it's it's fabulous and uh
00:09:15
yeah it's weird to be back as always we
00:09:18
have a full week of semi-televised
00:09:22
entertainment for you here
00:09:23
at quests and chaos monday dragon of ice
00:09:27
fire peak we can still only afford one
00:09:28
dragon
00:09:29
uh we're we're working on a budget to
00:09:31
get dragons
00:09:32
of ice spire peak that's the uh you know
00:09:34
that'll but
00:09:36
you know we'll have to fix it in post so
00:09:38
monday that tuesday
00:09:40
the chaos agents where the countdown
00:09:42
keeps extending
00:09:43
we're just gonna keep saying it's the
00:09:45
second to last episode and you know
00:09:46
it'll be like eight years from now
00:09:48
coming up on the the 37th penultimate
00:09:51
episode of the chaos agents
00:09:53
return to akupara part 37.
00:09:58
uh and i i think next episode is just
00:10:00
going to be a very long rules discussion
00:10:02
about uh concentration during uh
00:10:05
i actually had to look up concentration
00:10:07
uh because of a discussion that i had in
00:10:08
one of my games it was interesting so
00:10:11
yeah uzo is dead so we'll deal with that
00:10:14
on tuesday
00:10:15
it's d no one's really dead i have
00:10:18
diamonds and and and revivify prepared don't worry
00:10:21
yeah see
00:10:22
um so tuesday chaos agents uh you heard
00:10:26
it here first someone will die
00:10:29
in the first five minutes of that
00:10:30
episode someone will die
00:10:32
uh then saturday it's our it's the
00:10:35
double feature
00:10:36
starting us off rhyme of the frost
00:10:38
maiden is it maiden or maidens
00:10:41
again just one yeah well you know
00:10:45
if you've priced out maidens lately
00:10:48
especially demigod maidens they get they
00:10:50
get real pricey real fast
00:10:52
is there another kind i don't know uh so
00:10:55
rhyme of the frost maiden
00:10:57
uh saturday starts us off and then we
00:11:00
come in to
00:11:01
end the week uh and there's some
00:11:04
you know there's probably gonna be more
00:11:06
board games interspersed in there who
00:11:07
knows and someday we'll actually be able
00:11:09
to
00:11:10
play together again so yeah you are all
00:11:13
heading
00:11:14
towards uh oh we have we have more math
00:11:18
for amy to do
00:11:19
yep so this is simple math ld brat 2000
00:11:22
bits to all to the players thank you
00:11:24
kindly
00:11:25
thank you so much and it says birthday
00:11:27
bits so i'm guessing that means it's
00:11:28
elder brat's birthday
00:11:30
i hope so because i don't think it's our
00:11:33
birthday i don't know if it's all right
00:11:35
well today is our birthday it's our
00:11:36
first one right
00:11:37
today is our our kick our our birthday
00:11:40
show
00:11:41
uh welcome to the world down darker
00:11:43
trails that's right
00:11:49
uh so you are uh oh you are all headed
00:11:52
to uh uh stillwater uh are you
00:11:56
there's no train to still water because
00:11:59
uh trains into the rockies are many years
00:12:02
away
00:12:03
uh long trains into the rockies anyway
00:12:05
uh so are you
00:12:07
are you all taking a stagecoach are you
00:12:09
writing it is
00:12:11
uh it's spring so it's not horrible
00:12:14
stagecoach pay for the stage coach all
00:12:17
right
00:12:18
i mean drops i'm just saying all right
00:12:21
there you go
00:12:22
so uh uh you are you are all in a
00:12:25
stagecoach
00:12:26
uh rattling towards uh stillwater
00:12:28
colorado
00:12:30
uh and now i just wanna ask each of you
00:12:32
to give us
00:12:33
the you know one minute introduction
00:12:36
of your character what is what is the
00:12:38
first thing
00:12:40
someone notices about your character
00:12:44
uh tiana why don't you start us off sure
00:12:48
i am playing suzanne edeshen and the
00:12:50
first thing that
00:12:51
anyone notices about about her is
00:12:53
piercing blue eyes she has very light
00:12:55
blue eyes
00:12:57
um she's five foot seven and
00:13:00
tanned spends a lot of time clearly out
00:13:02
in the sun long red hair
00:13:04
usually in a braid down down about the
00:13:05
middle of her back
00:13:07
and at the moment she's she's wearing a
00:13:10
button-down plaid shirt kind of like the
00:13:12
one i'm wearing now
00:13:13
and uh just sort of like sitting back in
00:13:16
the stage coach
00:13:18
hat pulled down over her eyes just
00:13:19
waiting she doesn't she doesn't much
00:13:21
care for stage coaches she prefers to be
00:13:23
on the back of her own horse
00:13:25
now you are a federal marshal yes uh
00:13:29
is your badge evident um
00:13:34
at the moment no i
00:13:37
am not i'm not exactly incognito but i'm
00:13:40
not openly a federal marshal at the moment
00:13:42
unless i need to be
00:13:44
all right elda brad is gifting subs now
00:13:48
i finally got a gift sub what right
00:13:52
it only took you a year in a couple
00:13:54
years uh
00:13:55
thank you so much elder brat for the
00:13:57
gift subs that's
00:13:59
that's wonderful um and now i can
00:14:02
you know now i can subscribe again
00:14:04
that's great
00:14:06
you can hit that not one emote yeah
00:14:08
that's all good
00:14:09
paradise with the o1 yeah speaking of i
00:14:12
need to subscribe for my 21st month
00:14:17
uh all right well she's doing that
00:14:18
thomas what's the first thing uh
00:14:20
uh tell us about elias jackson so elias
00:14:23
jackson
00:14:24
uh you notice a couple things he's small
00:14:27
he's uh not a big guy um
00:14:30
he was a lot smarter during character
00:14:33
creation than he is today
00:14:36
um what did you do you hit him over the
00:14:38
head with a lead pipe
00:14:40
i i did a little adjustments because i
00:14:42
think i needed a more uh
00:14:44
capable character but
00:14:47
you don't notice is uh
00:14:50
he's got a a leather-bound journal that
00:14:54
he is attempting to write in in this name
00:14:59
it's easier than a um
00:15:03
easier than riding a horse but not great
00:15:08
and he's always you know making notes
00:15:12
jotting something down and even even
00:15:16
asking say that one more time and then
00:15:20
trying to write down verbatim the quote
00:15:25
uh there you go all right um
00:15:28
and uh jonesy what do you got
00:15:32
oh yes julen c well so i am
00:15:35
um you know this
00:15:38
nicely aged woman
00:15:41
who is small but buff
00:15:47
you could probably tell she can she
00:15:49
makes things
00:15:50
she makes things for a living but what
00:15:53
she makes
00:15:54
you know most people assume she's uh
00:15:56
blacksmith
00:15:57
um i do a lot of that but i i i'm
00:16:00
fascinated by way things work
00:16:03
so i'm always asking people about their
00:16:05
guns or what they have or
00:16:06
if i see something that looks oh how
00:16:10
does that mill work
00:16:11
how are you doing that you know what
00:16:12
everybody loves in this time frame
00:16:14
asking about their guns yeah i've
00:16:17
noticed
00:16:21
uh uh yeah all right so uh um yeah i
00:16:23
think the takeaway here is there is
00:16:25
um you know you are clearly someone who
00:16:27
works with their hands
00:16:29
you know there's the the all right um
00:16:32
amy so i'm abe
00:16:36
from junior um of the illustrious
00:16:39
sausage king of chicago sun um
00:16:43
i had to look that up to find out that
00:16:45
was fake [Laughter]
00:16:49
in case anyone's confused aproman senior
00:16:52
um that's reference from
00:16:54
ferris bueller's day off so if you find
00:16:57
that on the internet
00:16:58
um so he is an obviously chicago
00:17:02
chicago midwestern born um first
00:17:04
generation american
00:17:06
east coast educated tall beautiful
00:17:09
blonde like
00:17:12
you know just always play high
00:17:14
appearance characters i know i can't
00:17:16
help it
00:17:17
just wait till senior comes to play yeah
00:17:20
you're gorgeous or the other way he's
00:17:23
he's the other way
00:17:25
i look like mom um
00:17:28
and i also stick out like a sore thumb
00:17:32
it's like i wear med i wear midwestern
00:17:34
clothes
00:17:35
um i don't wear midwestern clothes
00:17:36
either and i don't wear western clothes
00:17:38
really i mean i try to
00:17:40
but when i do it's like beautifully
00:17:42
tanned leather
00:17:43
with sheeps like with sheep fur inside
00:17:45
of the coat like
00:17:47
there's everybody else and then there's
00:17:48
me trying to fake looking like
00:17:51
i belong so that's essentially like you
00:17:53
can tell me
00:17:55
you know imagine you're at a cowboy bar
00:17:58
in the city
00:18:03
uh all right uh and nick yeah i'm
00:18:06
playing uh
00:18:07
jared reinhard and the first thing
00:18:09
people notice about him is piercing blue
00:18:10
eyes
00:18:12
sorry i had too okay i'll stick with it
00:18:16
though it's the red hair it's the red hair and
00:18:18
a ponytail all the way down to his yeah
00:18:19
the braid down
00:18:20
the no the thing two braids no he's like
00:18:24
no he doesn't if he logs talking
00:18:30
don't tempt me don't i might do it you
00:18:33
push me far enough
00:18:34
i'm not i'm you you are responsible for
00:18:37
your own actions my friend
00:18:38
what oh actually no no breaks but he's
00:18:41
got like the the frazzled
00:18:42
like it it was red but it's like it's
00:18:45
the the gray's coming in
00:18:46
and it's that like he you can tell that
00:18:49
he has uh not taken care of himself
00:18:51
like he's he's 45 but he looks like 10
00:18:54
years older he's got the the creases in
00:18:57
his skin that you can tell like he's
00:18:58
been he's been out and he's been
00:19:00
weathered
00:19:01
and uh looks like it's 1880. he's been
00:19:05
weathered
00:19:06
no it's it's no it's that thing where
00:19:07
people do they they're out and you can
00:19:09
just tell like
00:19:10
you get a lot of sun and a lot of wind
00:19:12
and a lot of like exposure
00:19:14
yeah my my my dad's actually like that
00:19:17
but he's a farm boy so you know
00:19:18
yeah and he's got a combination of very
00:19:20
like utilitarian cheap clothes but his
00:19:23
jacket is actually it was
00:19:25
once actually a nice jacket but you can
00:19:28
see where it's been patched together and
00:19:29
it's really just garbage but
00:19:31
uh but he rocks it holds on to it he
00:19:34
thinks he rocks it
00:19:35
did he grab it from it from abe froman's
00:19:37
uh throwaways can we downs yep
00:19:40
yeah it's one of the vapes jackets
00:19:43
um so you are you are headed to this
00:19:46
town
00:19:47
um and you don't know you know this
00:19:49
you're you're gonna set up a base of
00:19:51
operations there
00:19:53
um and uh um
00:19:56
as you are in this stage coach riding up
00:19:59
to it you're
00:20:00
you've been in this stagecoach for uh
00:20:02
you left
00:20:04
let's see from colorado you left kansas
00:20:06
city
00:20:07
probably you know several days ago uh
00:20:10
and
00:20:11
you you have made your way slowly
00:20:15
up uh a long ways
00:20:18
and you um
00:20:21
they they tell you that you're in
00:20:22
colorado now you you take your their
00:20:24
word for it but you
00:20:25
you definitely you feel the altitude
00:20:28
uh as you as you get higher up
00:20:32
and um it is
00:20:35
uh uh it is about uh it's it's late
00:20:38
afternoon
00:20:39
when the stage coach you hear uh the
00:20:42
driver
00:20:43
like call to a halt whoa whoa
00:20:46
and uh it slows and
00:20:50
the driver as he is want to do kicks
00:20:53
uh the side of the coach with it like
00:20:56
below his seat which
00:20:58
is kind of over the back of your head
00:21:01
uh and yells down uh tree on the road
00:21:04
gonna clear it out
00:21:07
y'all stay put and
00:21:10
you hear he and uh uh the the
00:21:14
uh shotgun man uh both get down
00:21:17
from the tree
00:21:20
uh and then it's quiet you can't really
00:21:25
uh uh the you can't really hear much
00:21:28
of what's going on up front i mean
00:21:30
because there's not much going on if
00:21:32
there were gunshots or something you'd
00:21:33
certainly hear them you don't hear
00:21:34
anything
00:21:35
um the tree in the road that's what i
00:21:39
would do if i was going to ambush
00:21:40
someone yeah well exactly and
00:21:42
and since i was thinking exactly the
00:21:43
same thing like she set up pushing her
00:21:45
hat up going
00:21:46
i wonder i'm gonna stick my head out and
00:21:49
uh see what i see
00:21:53
you stick your head out uh and you see
00:21:56
the um the driver and the shotgun man
00:22:00
both standing in front of a large tree
00:22:03
that is across
00:22:04
the path um and in sort of tableau from
00:22:08
behind
00:22:09
there he the driver is doing the
00:22:11
stereotypical like push his hat up to
00:22:13
rub his forehead thing as he's like
00:22:15
looking at something that perplexes him
00:22:18
does it look like
00:22:19
this was a natural fall uh it does the
00:22:22
tree
00:22:23
doesn't look like it was cut
00:22:26
okay but like the the other part is near
00:22:29
the road so it doesn't look like it was
00:22:31
like that's right yeah it was not dragged here it was not
00:22:33
chopped down or anything like that
00:22:34
there's clearly
00:22:36
um the trees uh make me a
00:22:39
let's call it a natural world role
00:22:42
oh let's follow the campaign
00:22:46
no
00:22:49
so what you do see you could spend luck
00:22:54
certainly could uh guess what
00:22:57
uh uh you got plenty of re-rolls uh no
00:22:59
what you will see is that um the tree is
00:23:02
in ragged shape oh do they need do they
00:23:06
need somebody to help lift
00:23:08
um she asks you that
00:23:11
hey i don't know i don't like sitting in
00:23:14
this thing i
00:23:15
i would like to get out yeah this is a
00:23:17
this is a good i would go help me
00:23:19
get up and go pee in the woods all right
00:23:23
yeah uh uh elias jackson heads off into
00:23:25
the forest alone
00:23:26
[Laughter]
00:23:30
no way that could go wrong behind the
00:23:32
first biggest tree
00:23:34
yeah john john j is going to go out and
00:23:35
see if she can help all right
00:23:37
um or with the with the branch i'm just
00:23:41
curious
00:23:42
i mean either way by the way it's a
00:23:43
branch right
00:23:44
[Laughter]
00:23:48
no he's his size it's only 40.
00:23:52
uh what do we want with peeing
00:23:55
how can i give him advantage yeah he
00:23:56
would like to aid
00:24:02
uh
00:24:04
thomas gets to roll navigation uh or
00:24:07
if you want to write your name it's
00:24:08
raining read write english uh
00:24:10
so uh yeah you you anybody that wants to
00:24:13
can get out
00:24:14
um yeah suzanna you come up
00:24:17
to oh sorry jonesy you come up to the
00:24:19
the tree and the
00:24:20
the two guys are looking at it and uh
00:24:23
make me a natural world rule
00:24:27
i'm beginning to see where i should have
00:24:28
invested points in this one
00:24:35
this is a journey you're taking it's
00:24:37
like i'm going what do i need to do to
00:24:39
get it i have to roll
00:24:40
under it again it's been a minute since
00:24:42
we've played it's like what
00:24:44
no i didn't make uh really close though
00:24:46
can i
00:24:47
i just have to because i'm bored
00:24:51
what's the deal with this tree is it an
00:24:53
ambush
00:24:55
uh but who did you are you just saying
00:24:57
that out loud
00:24:59
yeah i'm walking up to it like
00:25:01
everyone's confused
00:25:02
alright yeah get around the the the
00:25:06
driver will look at you
00:25:07
uh well uh no sir if this was an ambush
00:25:10
uh uh we'd all been shot by now
00:25:16
well then what are we what are we
00:25:17
looking at yeah let's move this thing
00:25:19
let's do this
00:25:20
well what's the confusion i i'm just we
00:25:23
we just aren't never seen a tree covered
00:25:26
in you know
00:25:29
i don't know i guess that's sap and and
00:25:31
you know now that he says this you
00:25:33
notice that the tree is covered in this weird
00:25:37
yellow sappy sort of
00:25:41
um i mean without natural world you're
00:25:44
not sure
00:25:45
if you know what sap should look like
00:25:49
let me have a crack at it all right yeah
00:25:50
make a natural world roll
00:25:55
uh critical success oh this is no are
00:25:58
you and what have you done with nick
00:26:02
yes but also he's natural world is his
00:26:05
thing
00:26:06
you know it occurs to me just in case
00:26:08
anybody is joining us for the first time
00:26:10
and has not played call of cthulhu
00:26:12
we should do a quick like so uh when i
00:26:14
ask for
00:26:15
roles uh our players have skills that
00:26:18
are based zero out of a hundred they're rolling
00:26:20
percentile dice they want to get under
00:26:22
that
00:26:23
if they can't um if they miss the role
00:26:25
they have a couple options they have
00:26:27
luck points that they can spend one for
00:26:30
one to bring the role down
00:26:32
that's one way they can also push a roll
00:26:34
if they miss it
00:26:35
and pushing a role is a mechanic where
00:26:38
you sort of give me a story reason why
00:26:40
you're redoubling your efforts to do
00:26:42
something and then you can roll again and if you
00:26:44
make it awesome but if you miss
00:26:46
something bad's gonna happen uh
00:26:52
look look the first time i ever pushed a
00:26:54
roll alexandria lost her voice i'm not a
00:26:56
fan
00:26:58
uh so a critical success is
00:27:01
uh a less than is a a fifth
00:27:04
of your of his of whatever his skill is
00:27:07
uh and then there's also a hard success
00:27:10
which is half
00:27:11
of your skill roll and if if you get
00:27:13
those
00:27:14
uh uh those bifurcations of your skills
00:27:17
you get a better result so with a
00:27:18
critical
00:27:19
this is not tree sap you know what
00:27:22
teresa this is not syrup
00:27:23
this does not seem like um this maybe
00:27:26
it's some sort of
00:27:27
fungus or something maybe this tree was
00:27:30
diseased
00:27:32
what now oh and you touched it yeah it
00:27:34
is very sticky
00:27:36
um and the other thing that you notice
00:27:39
with a critical success
00:27:41
is that this tree um
00:27:45
violently uh i mean it didn't
00:27:49
it it looks like it was struck by
00:27:50
lightning in the way that it like
00:27:52
is cracked asunder but there's no
00:27:56
burn anywhere well uh but but is the sap
00:28:00
along the the breakage or is it just
00:28:02
outside of it
00:28:04
uh it is a lot well so the the tree is
00:28:06
essentially like
00:28:07
cracked open almost like um you know
00:28:11
almost like a uh uh
00:28:14
i guess so my question is with the
00:28:18
sap does it look like the tree was hit
00:28:21
by a blast of this stuff and whatever
00:28:22
hit it
00:28:23
broke it off as in there's not really
00:28:25
much within the breakage itself you know
00:28:27
what you got a heart you got a critical
00:28:28
success
00:28:29
it looks like it something erupted from
00:28:32
within
00:28:33
oh which is very weird that's
00:28:37
the yeah i'm not even gonna tell that
00:28:40
sounds crazy
00:28:41
yeah no it's very strange
00:28:45
it looks like whatever this sap is
00:28:48
was inside the tree and kind of came out
00:28:52
i i i i see jared looking at all this
00:28:55
kind of stuff and i i oh no
00:28:58
what is wrong oh oh don't don't touch it
00:29:03
we have to move the tree uh there are
00:29:06
parts of the tree that are not covered
00:29:08
in this stuff
00:29:09
okay yeah let's let's hook things and
00:29:11
pull from there but
00:29:14
yeah which so when you start doing that
00:29:16
the driver and the shotgun guy will like
00:29:18
take a step back
00:29:20
from whatever's on there uh some kind of
00:29:23
mold or something it's uh
00:29:27
well you know uh sometimes trees get
00:29:30
uh get sick and die
00:29:34
i'm uh i'm going to uh uh start uh
00:29:37
drawing the tree
00:29:40
documenting the things and and jared you
00:29:43
said this was some sort of
00:29:44
mold and we shouldn't touch it uh
00:29:47
uh i'll i'll pull talk to him i'm gonna
00:29:51
grab the tree aside
00:29:54
who wants to follow me but i don't want
00:29:56
to make a scene no no no no no
00:29:58
yeah so jonesy the the driver and the
00:30:01
shotgun man will help you
00:30:02
as you like move the you you honestly
00:30:05
are stronger than both of them
00:30:06
so like you are live doing the heavy
00:30:08
lifting there
00:30:10
um well and and well they're doing all
00:30:12
of that i have i've
00:30:13
i've got my rifle out and like have it
00:30:15
hooked under my arm and pointed down at
00:30:17
the ground just
00:30:18
casually watching not like on alert but
00:30:21
ready to be active
00:30:22
to ready for danger if it happens just
00:30:25
because i don't trust the situation
00:30:27
yeah nothing uh nothing nothing seems to
00:30:30
be happening as they uh i see that she's got this so
00:30:34
i just wherever
00:30:36
like wherever the prospector was sitting
00:30:38
i just swing my legs up and put my hat
00:30:39
everything i'm like you got this
00:30:40
and then just put my head over my head
00:30:42
and be like yep abe is already abe
00:30:45
abe has somehow the ability despite
00:30:47
being a city boy to sleep at a moment's
00:30:49
notice
00:30:51
it's the rocking of the cradle yeah
00:30:53
that's right that's right
00:30:54
um and uh so once i've kind of done
00:30:57
that and they're kind of pointed i want
00:30:59
to look at are there other trees that
00:31:01
have similar anything we'd have to see
00:31:04
from the inside
00:31:05
uh i'll take out my bowie knife and try
00:31:07
and find a tree
00:31:08
next to where this one had fallen from
00:31:10
its base
00:31:12
you see the stump so that's no problem
00:31:14
yeah i'll start chipping away
00:31:16
because it i'll tell elias like it looks
00:31:18
like it came from the inside and it
00:31:20
looked like it uh it happened all at once it just
00:31:23
shattered it
00:31:24
that's that is not normal no
00:31:29
uh don't bring any of it in
00:31:35
that doesn't sound pleasant uh yeah you
00:31:38
so you start chipping away at one of the
00:31:39
trees uh and
00:31:42
this tree seems uh relatively solid
00:31:45
okay this does not see there doesn't
00:31:47
seem to be
00:31:48
uh any sort of you know you like jab
00:31:51
your knife pretty far into it and
00:31:52
nothing weird comes out
00:31:55
are there any are there any signs on the
00:31:58
the stump of the tree that i can look
00:32:01
around and see
00:32:02
if any of the other trees have similar
00:32:04
signs uh there
00:32:06
there's not any symbols or anything like
00:32:08
that uh no
00:32:09
but just like like the usually if
00:32:12
something's diseased you can kind of get
00:32:13
an idea
00:32:14
for it yeah so the sense you get is that
00:32:16
whatever came out of this tree
00:32:18
it was inside the tree and it wasn't
00:32:21
there
00:32:22
it didn't seem it doesn't look like
00:32:23
there's any external markings
00:32:25
so a couple of questions the um
00:32:29
it's spring so other trees are probably
00:32:32
in bloom
00:32:33
uh was this one as well in bloom
00:32:36
uh this tree was in bloom yeah okay and
00:32:40
what kind of tree is it
00:32:43
i i ask jared because i will
00:32:47
and jared will tell you it is a a very
00:32:49
appropriate tree
00:32:50
for probably a pine or a fur i'm
00:32:53
guessing for up in the
00:32:54
you know the the rockies a larch
00:33:00
sure number nine
00:33:06
it's a cilantro tree
00:33:11
now i i i wipe my hands off with some
00:33:14
some leaves and stuff that are around
00:33:15
i'm going to go back in the coach and
00:33:16
say let's get going
00:33:18
sorry make me a luck roll jonesy
00:33:23
oh yes i got 19. yeah so you didn't get
00:33:26
any you were you know you were very careful
00:33:28
uh
00:33:29
can i grab like some whiskey or
00:33:33
something and wash my hands off
00:33:35
yeah yeah alcohol clearly washes this
00:33:37
off
00:33:38
um uh everybody who's outside so
00:33:41
everyone except
00:33:42
a make a spot hidden roll
00:33:46
on cursed ice
00:33:50
oh 70. i made it right on the nose all
00:33:53
right
00:33:54
looks like two made it and nick i got a
00:33:57
a one wow
00:34:01
who are you and what have you done with
00:34:02
nick yeah with my first guy these are
00:34:03
these are my i'm pretty sure these are
00:34:05
my cursed ice too so i don't know
00:34:07
that means something bad's gonna happen
00:34:08
okay guys i need a better curse
00:34:11
so uh uh you all all three of you notice
00:34:14
right away
00:34:15
um that the uh the driver did not get
00:34:20
any on him
00:34:21
the shotgun man like is
00:34:25
he's not covered in it but he got a lot
00:34:28
on him
00:34:29
yeah all his arms and stuff huh yeah
00:34:32
does jared see anyone else in the group
00:34:35
move to like try and clean him off
00:34:38
he looks around is does he wearing long
00:34:41
sleeves or short sleeves
00:34:42
uh it's still spring it's spring
00:34:45
mountain
00:34:46
no no it's it's still chilly he's
00:34:48
wearing he's actually wearing a duster
00:34:50
so it's mainly on his jacket yeah we
00:34:53
don't want that inside
00:34:54
yeah i'm gonna well he's he'd be sitting
00:34:56
outside
00:34:57
but still but i don't want this stuff
00:34:59
yeah all since i had the whiskey
00:35:01
i'll take a rag soak it and i'll you
00:35:03
know
00:35:04
hold we'll see you got some you got and
00:35:06
i'll start wiping him off
00:35:07
uh he looks very sad that that is your
00:35:11
use of whiskey
00:35:12
uh and he's like looking at the bottle
00:35:15
oh yeah
00:35:16
clean out your mouth if you break if you
00:35:18
give me this
00:35:20
uh and he yeah well he'll he'll he'll
00:35:22
let you do whatever you want while he's
00:35:24
got the whiskey bottle
00:35:27
yeah good good good good call jared
00:35:30
uh so yeah you you you clean his jacket
00:35:33
off and you got an 0-1
00:35:34
you are sure that there is no residue on
00:35:38
him we're gonna have to get some of it
00:35:40
in his eyes to make sure flush it out
00:35:44
maybe no i'm kidding maybe don't put
00:35:46
whiskey in a man's eyes that seems a bit
00:35:48
uh a bit painful
00:35:51
i wonder what would happen if you did i
00:35:53
i think that's an experiment we'll have
00:35:54
to just get
00:35:56
back how about you miss jackson we can
00:35:59
do that to you
00:36:00
oh no that's what interns are for
00:36:04
uh let's just say natives let's just
00:36:08
we don't need we don't need to we don't
00:36:09
need the period cosplay
00:36:11
everything here that's that's fine uh
00:36:15
so um yeah um the driver is gonna like
00:36:18
well if uh
00:36:19
y'all don't mind we're gonna get going
00:36:20
again please
00:36:22
that's when i poke my hat out and just
00:36:24
see anybody need any help
00:36:28
just like shoot him a look over my
00:36:29
shoulder like no mr frum and i think we
00:36:32
got it
00:36:33
it's perfect he supplied the whiskey
00:36:36
i'll have you know
00:36:38
uh and yeah yep you get back on and the
00:36:41
rest of your ride
00:36:42
to stillwater is uneventful um
00:36:46
you come across a rise and you
00:36:49
um the the uh the driver will once again
00:36:52
boot the while you're traveling we'll
00:36:54
boot the the floorboard
00:36:56
uh and say uh all right here's
00:36:59
stillwater y'all get ready
00:37:01
and you looking out the windows you see
00:37:05
a um depending on if you are a rural or
00:37:10
urban sort you either see a thriving
00:37:13
mining town or you see a complete
00:37:16
[ __ ]
00:37:17
uh this um most of the buildings
00:37:20
in this town are tents uh it is
00:37:24
uh it is large it looks like you know
00:37:27
there could be a thousand people here
00:37:29
uh there's there's a lot of them there
00:37:31
are some
00:37:32
wooden buildings they seem fairly new
00:37:36
uh and uh yeah you guys
00:37:39
you guys did some research on stillwater
00:37:41
before you came it's a my it's a boom
00:37:43
town
00:37:44
so they found gold and all of the
00:37:46
suddens
00:37:47
you know what was a sleepy little camp
00:37:49
has become
00:37:50
a a big a big old thing uh
00:37:55
susanna make me a let's make let's call
00:37:57
it a law
00:37:58
role okay
00:38:02
uh 67 out of 50 didn't make it
00:38:06
okay everything's fine uh you
00:38:10
uh yeah so uh the the coach
00:38:13
will come down uh into town
00:38:16
it's the town is in a little bit of a
00:38:18
valley uh
00:38:20
a great location there's a uh there's a
00:38:23
creek that goes right through town that is
00:38:25
reasonably clean water
00:38:27
um most of what you figure most of what
00:38:30
goes on in this town
00:38:32
is mining and so there's uh there's you
00:38:35
see an assay office which is where
00:38:37
people would bring
00:38:38
it they can that's where you can buy
00:38:40
mining plots
00:38:41
uh and also where you can bring gold and
00:38:43
sell gold and that sort of thing
00:38:44
uh you see several saloons
00:38:47
some of which are tents uh uh some of
00:38:51
which are uh uh are wooden buildings
00:38:54
there is one hotel uh in town that is
00:38:58
wooden
00:38:59
and there's also a a tent that is a flop
00:39:02
house essentially uh and the the stagecoach
00:39:06
will stop in front of the hotel uh the hotel
00:39:10
is called there's no backup hotel in
00:39:14
this town
00:39:15
we're already i mean here's the flop
00:39:16
house the flop house
00:39:19
if you really want it what about the uh
00:39:21
location where i can find
00:39:22
some company oh there are several
00:39:26
uh varying degrees of quality and
00:39:29
uh hygiene um but um
00:39:32
this so the lone pine hotel uh
00:39:36
is a brand spanking new building
00:39:39
uh it is uh two stories uh has a
00:39:42
restaurant
00:39:43
uh to everyone but abe it looks like
00:39:46
one of the nicest places you've ever
00:39:48
been uh to abe this is like
00:39:50
you know this is your this is your
00:39:52
backup hotel
00:39:56
it's the best we got do they have a
00:39:58
blacksmith in here
00:40:00
anywhere uh if you'll uh uh the driver
00:40:02
will tell you like uh
00:40:04
uh yeah there's uh uh
00:40:08
there's uh reeds over by the livery
00:40:11
uh but uh
00:40:14
uh you know there's this town probably
00:40:17
has you know there's there's a lot of
00:40:19
there's a lot of thirst for
00:40:20
all sorts of business in this town
00:40:24
speaking of thirst i like pass him a
00:40:26
little i pass him like a tip
00:40:28
and just be like thank you very much for
00:40:30
the uh ride um
00:40:31
do you know the most reputable place to
00:40:33
uh get a drink in this town
00:40:36
uh well sir uh reputable
00:40:39
um where aren't we going to get shots
00:40:44
now where do they actually pour real
00:40:45
liquor i don't want watered down
00:40:47
nonsense
00:40:50
well uh uh that's uh that's uh that's a
00:40:53
lot of conditions
00:40:54
here uh i i figure
00:40:58
myself i am partial to the uh
00:41:03
i'm partial to the steep hill and he
00:41:05
points at a large tent
00:41:08
that is basically just an awning that uh
00:41:11
that doesn't have
00:41:12
um it's kind of a uh uh it's like that
00:41:15
that tint with no walls kind of thing um
00:41:20
uh it's got uh uh tree trunks
00:41:23
are the seats and uh uh there
00:41:27
is it looks like cheap liquor he says
00:41:29
but um
00:41:30
you know if you want the fancy stuff uh
00:41:32
there's abe's whiskey
00:41:34
and seaguars that's uh
00:41:37
that's where i go when uh when i got a
00:41:39
dollar in my pocket
00:41:44
how often do you come up here to
00:41:46
stillwater
00:41:47
uh well a lot more in the past year uh
00:41:50
since it's uh uh since it's booming uh
00:41:53
but
00:41:54
the the you know the kansas city route
00:41:56
uh not
00:41:57
not too many folks come up here uh
00:42:00
especially during the winter
00:42:03
um how when were you here last
00:42:08
oh round about last fall right before
00:42:10
the snow
00:42:12
once the winter comes in i i don't
00:42:15
i don't truck to no snow and the hotel
00:42:18
was here at that point yes
00:42:20
oh yeah yeah it was just uh fairly new
00:42:25
hmm he starts just taking some notes you
00:42:28
know he's gonna write a story about
00:42:29
stillwater
00:42:30
uh and um
00:42:34
yeah there will be uh uh you know there
00:42:36
is
00:42:39
you can find there are probably a dozen
00:42:42
saloons in this town that you can find
00:42:46
all over the place uh there are um
00:42:52
there are um
00:42:56
i don't know there are probably a half
00:42:58
dozen brothels
00:43:00
uh there is a general store
00:43:04
uh there is a livery where you can rent
00:43:06
horses
00:43:08
uh and wagons there's uh there's a
00:43:10
blacksmith on
00:43:11
as part of that livery um
00:43:14
there is uh there are two banks
00:43:18
uh and uh
00:43:22
everybody and everybody make me a spot
00:43:24
hidden roll
00:43:28
in the box it's a normal success
00:43:34
all right so it's not a normal success
00:43:36
one of those is which
00:43:37
it doesn't matter because i rolled two
00:43:39
dice and they both say
00:43:40
90. so i would consider that a 99.
00:43:43
i think you're right all right so um
00:43:47
you beat me to it no
00:43:50
the first critical fail of the campaign
00:43:53
uh so
00:43:54
you have uh you all
00:43:58
or those of you who made the role notice
00:44:01
that there doesn't appear to be
00:44:04
a city hall or a town hall in this space
00:44:08
but there is a kind of log cabiny
00:44:11
jail and um abe
00:44:17
uh you straight for it
00:44:20
you um you are heading
00:44:24
uh uh into uh uh you're like looking for
00:44:27
someone to give your bags to
00:44:29
at the hotel of course uh and as you are
00:44:32
doing that
00:44:33
um excuse me sir
00:44:36
uh could i uh use me a a a guy who is an
00:44:40
albino
00:44:42
uh he has he's super blonde hair
00:44:45
um and he's like leaning against the
00:44:48
side of the hotel
00:44:50
and he says you come from kansas city
00:44:57
yes um yep kansas city we do
00:45:00
yep absolutely
00:45:04
abe was holding out money to get someone
00:45:06
to take his bags
00:45:08
yeah oh i grabbed that money and i pick
00:45:10
up baby's bags
00:45:11
all right yeah you you you now have a
00:45:13
dollar more than you had which means you
00:45:15
probably have two dollars
00:45:17
yes we'll talk about money in a minute
00:45:19
yeah
00:45:20
nope i nope i'm not here with the bank
00:45:23
i'm uh
00:45:24
i'm on vacation that's my assistant
00:45:26
right over there
00:45:28
on vacation you come to stillwater on
00:45:30
vacation
00:45:32
i've heard the air is lovely this time
00:45:33
of year
00:45:36
have you uh how long are you staying
00:45:41
however long the mood suits
00:45:45
well you should uh if you wish a little
00:45:49
free advice
00:45:51
you should stay at the stratton property
00:45:53
not to this place
00:45:55
who's the uh stratton property
00:45:58
is he a rancher around here
00:46:05
mr stratton he's the man who runs this
00:46:09
town
00:46:13
and his hotel is called
00:46:18
you think i would have remembered this
00:46:21
uh his hotel
00:46:22
is called
00:46:33
[Music]
00:46:34
his hotel is called the stillwater
00:46:37
original
00:46:38
ooh the original but is it a nice hotel
00:46:43
well mr stratton owns it
00:46:46
so yes it's a nice hotel
00:46:50
and i'm sorry sir i didn't catch your
00:46:51
name my name's abe
00:46:54
i'm sven sven nielsen nice to meet you
00:46:56
sven
00:46:57
thanks for the advice sir and i like tip
00:46:59
my hat i'm like i'll go confer with my
00:47:01
uh compatriots
00:47:05
i'll follow abe with his bags yeah and i
00:47:08
imagine i i if i could have overheard
00:47:10
that i would definitely have like
00:47:12
written a couple of things down yeah
00:47:14
yeah yeah
00:47:15
yeah runs this he's like he's like
00:47:18
making
00:47:19
um he is clearly watching and like
00:47:22
cataloging each of you oh then i
00:47:25
full-on strut i'm just like yep you're
00:47:27
looking at me i know you're looking at
00:47:28
me
00:47:29
and now i know i'm watching him just
00:47:31
like hmm
00:47:32
noted i'm i'm looking for the the
00:47:36
the uh the blacksmiths in the area
00:47:39
are you gonna like wander off to the
00:47:40
blacksmith
00:47:42
well i i i didn't see anything uh
00:47:46
that caught my eye so but if they're
00:47:48
going to someplace else
00:47:49
i'll follow them i mean so right now
00:47:51
you're standing in front of
00:47:52
the of the uh the lone pine hotel
00:47:55
right which is the the nicest hotel in
00:47:58
town
00:47:59
uh so i figured we're going to stay here
00:48:01
so i'm hoping
00:48:03
they're talking to this guy slim yep
00:48:08
and everybody i'm talking loud enough
00:48:10
that people can overhear me
00:48:11
you know i'm from chicago i do that
00:48:14
that's fine just generally yeah it is um
00:48:18
so i'm i actually kind of want to this
00:48:20
isn't a big town right
00:48:22
i mean well i mean for it it's not small
00:48:25
this is a boom town so okay you know
00:48:28
there are 800
00:48:29
people in this town probably okay it's
00:48:32
all over the place so it's not like the
00:48:35
other hotels across the street
00:48:37
no no it's it's
00:48:40
do we know which hotel the agents that
00:48:43
we're looking for
00:48:44
stayed in you don't well
00:48:47
we're at this hotel so we may as well
00:48:49
ask if uh they've seen him check in here
00:48:52
uh right oh uh and you you have the
00:48:54
names of the three of them
00:48:55
uh but the names are not important and i
00:48:59
would forget them anyway so you have the
00:49:00
names of the agents
00:49:02
okay well it sounds
00:49:05
i i didn't see a city hall round here
00:49:08
which means
00:49:09
this this fellow stratton he's he's not
00:49:11
the mayor
00:49:12
so what do what does he mean he runs
00:49:14
this town there is a city hall it's the
00:49:17
elkhorn saloon
00:49:20
that's where mr stratton does business
00:49:26
it's finn right twin yeah
00:49:30
pleasure susanna okay
00:49:34
what's your interest in all this why do
00:49:37
you care
00:49:38
i work for mr stratton
00:49:42
if as you say he runs this town
00:49:44
everybody does what's your particular
00:49:46
interest
00:49:48
my job is to stand here and tell people
00:49:50
they shouldn't stay at this hotel
00:49:53
but are you offering any sort of
00:49:55
discounts for uh staying at the other
00:49:58
hotel
00:49:59
versus this one if you are so inclined
00:50:02
on getting
00:50:04
uh more clientele well
00:50:07
we got less bugs
00:50:11
good for me you mean in the bed yes
00:50:15
oh yeah we're out of here we gotta go
00:50:18
well we want to ask he still has bugs he just
00:50:22
has less of it
00:50:25
that's good right i mean fewer bugs is
00:50:28
really a bonus i think
00:50:32
what else does uh mr stratton known
00:50:34
around here
00:50:37
well he owns those three
00:50:40
uh saloons right there he owns uh that
00:50:43
general store he owns
00:50:45
most of the brothels does he have a
00:50:48
blacksmith shop
00:50:53
the blacksmith is part of delivery and
00:50:56
the banker uh owns delivery
00:51:03
what is spend is spend large like his
00:51:06
spending like an enforcer from like chicago you
00:51:08
know what i mean is he more like
00:51:10
is he more like a runner or is he more
00:51:11
like an enforcer he seems like more like
00:51:14
a runner
00:51:15
okay
00:51:18
i mean he's got there's a there's a
00:51:20
pistol on his hip
00:51:21
that he seems very familiar comfortable
00:51:23
with but
00:51:24
he doesn't see this is not like i'm
00:51:26
gonna rough you up guy
00:51:27
yeah he's not the guy that mr stratton's
00:51:30
gonna send in to beat us up
00:51:32
right
00:51:35
uh uh sven will look at you jonesy are
00:51:37
you a blacksmith
00:51:40
yeah yeah
00:51:43
are you uh are you interested in opening
00:51:46
a competing business
00:51:48
does come here to think about that yeah
00:51:53
you should talk to mr stratton
00:51:57
that sounds like a good idea thank you
00:52:00
we should talk to mr stratton
00:52:02
and you should not stay at this hotel
00:52:07
all right i'm i'm i'm i'm ready to go
00:52:11
he's just like leaning against the
00:52:12
pillar this whole time like he's not
00:52:14
going anywhere
00:52:15
if we stay at this hotel can we still
00:52:17
have a meeting with mr stratton
00:52:20
of course but he'll know you're staying
00:52:22
at this hotel
00:52:28
i'm going to say the stratton's hotel
00:52:32
the old water original i will go
00:52:37
okay so jonesy picks up his bags
00:52:41
and uh he'll give you directions it's
00:52:44
jonty is jonesy is a woman
00:52:47
who does pardon me her just saying just
00:52:50
jonesy is a woman but people melvin make that
00:52:52
mistake
00:52:55
bigger than that
00:52:58
it doesn't seem like it's worth the
00:53:00
trouble tone to
00:53:01
pick this hotel over the stillwater
00:53:04
original so why don't we
00:53:05
make mosey on over there
00:53:10
i'm gonna and after you i will join you
00:53:12
in just a moment i want to ask about
00:53:15
something on the inside of this but i
00:53:16
will definitely meet you over there
00:53:19
why don't we all go and get settled over
00:53:21
at the original first and then we can go
00:53:23
around and chat with people
00:53:28
so uh the driver has unloaded
00:53:32
all of your stuff abe's three chests
00:53:36
oh god uh and the driver is like um
00:53:41
you know he's like all right folks last
00:53:43
call we're leaving
00:53:46
oh wait wait hang on um we're gonna
00:53:49
we changed our minds and we're gonna
00:53:50
stay at the stillwater original if we
00:53:52
could uh
00:53:53
just get this taken down uh what is it
00:53:55
about three blocks and then another
00:53:57
hang left
00:54:01
pardon the the boxes
00:54:04
put them back in the stagecoach take
00:54:07
them about to these to the stillwater original
00:54:09
about three blocks down
00:54:11
and on the left uh i'm due back in
00:54:14
kansas city in two days
00:54:16
i need to to get my way gone
00:54:21
all right and then i just look at i look
00:54:24
at jared and just be like
00:54:26
fine [Laughter]
00:54:30
all right um now the the
00:54:33
sh you uh this is three dollars now
00:54:36
am i carrying oh all right you know what
00:54:39
let's
00:54:40
let's uh let's deal with money right now
00:54:42
so
00:54:43
uh money is hard to come by in this day
00:54:48
and age if you're not abe and so uh here's what
00:54:51
we're gonna do
00:54:52
everybody let's do this one at a time so
00:54:54
you're gonna make me a credit rating
00:54:56
roll
00:54:57
and we're gonna figure out how much cash
00:54:59
you have on your person
00:55:02
so uh thomas start us off make a credit
00:55:04
rating roll
00:55:06
all right oranges is the tens
00:55:10
because i'm not using that die
00:55:14
63 is that a failure
00:55:17
yes all right so you have
00:55:20
half your credit rating in dollars
00:55:23
okay that's not bad no
00:55:30
all right uh amy your credit rating is
00:55:33
ridiculous
00:55:34
yeah my credit rating is 70 so let's go
00:55:36
oh and i hit a 25
00:55:38
so all right you have
00:55:41
um you have several hundred you have as
00:55:44
much cash as you need
00:55:45
on your it's it's it's like like there's
00:55:49
the stuff i spend
00:55:50
and then there's the big bills in my
00:55:52
like in my jacket finder right here
00:55:54
your dad always told you to hide some
00:55:56
money you know exactly
00:55:58
there's always money in the banana stand
00:56:01
all right susannah what do you got
00:56:04
uh 41 is a success all right so you have
00:56:08
your credit rating times one
00:56:10
dollars jared now things get dark
00:56:17
add two dollars to whatever you get here
00:56:19
because
00:56:20
[Laughter]
00:56:22
i have two dollars all right what'd you
00:56:24
roll
00:56:25
i rolled a 50 and i needed to make a
00:56:28
five
00:56:30
yes right your credit rating is bad yeah
00:56:32
so
00:56:33
you have the clothes on your back and
00:56:35
now you have two dollars
00:56:37
oh what do you got
00:56:42
oh yeah i've got uh
00:56:46
what's that 30 31 oh i didn't quite make
00:56:50
i have no i made my credit rating but i
00:56:53
was trying to get a hard one which was
00:56:54
30.
00:56:55
so i didn't make that credit rating in
00:56:56
dollars all right
00:56:58
wait what if i spend all my luck
00:57:01
[Laughter]
00:57:03
you should push this one this is the
00:57:05
role
00:57:08
uh just to give you a sense of
00:57:11
sort of the costs of things in this time
00:57:15
uh a bath is 50 cents
00:57:18
a a bath with a breath using new water
00:57:22
is a dollar
00:57:24
uh a hotel like the the original
00:57:28
is two dollars a night the uh uh the
00:57:31
the lone pine is five dollars a night
00:57:35
something all right glad we are going to
00:57:37
the original
00:57:40
meals at the original are probably about
00:57:42
a quarter
00:57:43
uh meals at the uh at the lone pine are
00:57:48
probably two dollars uh
00:57:51
drinks most importantly uh a gl
00:57:54
uh a glass of beer is a nickel
00:57:58
a shot of whiskey uh is ten cents
00:58:02
a bottle of whiskey is you know a buck
00:58:05
for the crappy stuff
00:58:11
so that just gives you a sense of kind
00:58:13
of what you're spending
00:58:15
so mechanically just because we're doing
00:58:17
this as
00:58:18
a bunch of like short stories are we
00:58:20
going to do a credit writing role at the
00:58:21
start of each like short
00:58:22
short campaign each short arc i haven't
00:58:24
decided we'll figure that out
00:58:26
but that's just sort of a general idea
00:58:28
of how much money you have on your
00:58:30
person
00:58:31
uh uh and then you know we'll sort of
00:58:35
figure out what
00:58:36
uh what what that means as we kind of do
00:58:39
other stories for a while there's
00:58:40
probably going to be
00:58:42
fairly a fairly linear progression
00:58:47
all right so you guys head to the uh
00:58:49
original
00:58:50
jared is dragging three uh trunks of
00:58:53
clothes behind him
00:58:54
the the whole way it's a good thing i
00:58:57
don't have any luggage for myself
00:58:58
because it really freaks me out
00:59:00
well i will help him i was going to say
00:59:03
i have a rucksack i can
00:59:04
i can i'm not splitting this money with
00:59:06
anyone
00:59:08
i don't want the money i have money you
00:59:10
guys come up to offer a help and he like
00:59:12
gives you like a
00:59:13
the no i got this i got
00:59:17
the this dog as you approach his food
00:59:19
look
00:59:21
no are we strolling so the stage coach
00:59:23
won't take my bag so we're just
00:59:24
strolling
00:59:25
yeah you're walking down sven just stays
00:59:28
apparently
00:59:29
he just camps out at this hotel uh
00:59:33
he's not he's not following you or
00:59:35
leaving or anything like that
00:59:36
um this town is overwhelmingly male
00:59:40
uh and overwhelmingly like grubby
00:59:44
uh uh miners there's not a lot of uh
00:59:48
you know there's not a lot of wealth of
00:59:50
uh uh uh
00:59:51
abe is easily the best dressed person
00:59:54
anywhere in this town
00:59:55
uh tip my hat to any lady i see
01:00:01
uh the ladies that you do see are
01:00:03
probably prostitutes which i mean you're
01:00:06
fine with but
01:00:07
um and uh
01:00:10
there is uh uh yeah there's uh you walk
01:00:13
by
01:00:14
the livery and you see uh jonesy
01:00:17
the blacksmith in this town um it is it
01:00:20
says above it reads blacksmith
01:00:22
uh and uh there is a
01:00:25
a um a uh an african-american gentleman
01:00:29
who is working in the uh uh in the smithy
01:00:34
uh and he is he is very focused on
01:00:37
uh what he needs to do and i mean you're
01:00:39
a blacksmith so you can tell
01:00:40
he's got a lot of work like he is
01:00:44
clearly backed up there is uh
01:00:47
there's stuff that is not getting done
01:00:50
uh sitting in his
01:00:51
in his uh in his shop yeah that might be
01:00:54
somebody i could
01:00:56
help well just
01:00:59
just keep in mind john z we are here for
01:01:01
a job
01:01:02
but yes but if i can get in he might
01:01:06
be able to tell us when people come in
01:01:08
and out i
01:01:09
i imagine he's got his head down too
01:01:11
close to that anvil to pay much
01:01:13
attention in what's going on out in the
01:01:14
rest of the world
01:01:15
we've got a livery that's where people
01:01:17
have to bring their horses and things
01:01:19
so that point so you walk
01:01:23
by a couple of saloon tents and you know
01:01:26
it in one of them there's a fight going on
01:01:28
uh
01:01:29
that that bustles out into the street
01:01:32
uh it is um it is
01:01:35
that's from waldron's beer and ale
01:01:38
you see uh you walk by abe's whiskey and
01:01:41
seaguars
01:01:42
it is another tent but it's a nicer tent
01:01:46
and it seems to be a little more
01:01:50
a little quieter and a little more it
01:01:52
looks like more of a gambling
01:01:54
bar uh and
01:01:57
uh i just saw a blight up over there
01:02:00
you know i was like actually i'm just
01:02:02
gonna i'll just
01:02:04
i'll be i'll be back i'll just give me a
01:02:06
minute and just you're straight into the
01:02:08
bar
01:02:09
all right yeah abe goes and uh you know
01:02:12
you can uh what do you buy you get
01:02:13
yourself a whiskey or a beer
01:02:16
i would like one of each please all
01:02:17
right sir
01:02:19
and if i could is there an open card
01:02:20
table currently
01:02:23
well sir
01:02:27
we got a hammer sure is now are you
01:02:31
uh are you wanting to play low stakes or
01:02:34
high stakes sir
01:02:36
uh
01:02:39
fine looking gentlemen like yourself
01:02:41
probably going to want to play the high
01:02:43
stakes table
01:02:44
there it is feel me in all right uh
01:02:47
well uh your uh that that's the the one
01:02:51
table over there with the felt on it
01:02:54
thank you kindly and i go over and sit
01:02:56
down and what are we
01:02:57
are we playing poker sit down and yeah
01:03:00
there is a uh
01:03:01
uh seven card stud is being uh
01:03:04
uh is being dealt uh and
01:03:07
there are three miners
01:03:11
playing one of them seems to be betting
01:03:13
in like gold flakes
01:03:16
okay and every time he does that like
01:03:18
the guy who's dealing kind of smirks and
01:03:20
and and and you know looks at the gold
01:03:23
um and uh everybody else is just there
01:03:27
are no chips they're just throwing cash
01:03:29
on the table and so what is the average
01:03:32
cat we also got rated welcome in oh nice
01:03:35
hi hello and welcome welcome into the
01:03:38
welcome in
01:03:39
yeah that's awesome thanks for joining
01:03:41
us we are playing call of cthulhu
01:03:44
uh uh amy's character's about to get
01:03:46
fleeced at a gambling table
01:03:49
or possibly start a fight at a gambling
01:03:52
table so the rest of you are continuing on to
01:03:54
the hotel right
01:03:55
yeah i'm i'm definitely gonna make the
01:03:59
comment uh we're we're gonna have to retrieve
01:04:01
him out of there at some point i think
01:04:03
i'm gonna go and keep an eye all right
01:04:06
this will be an experience
01:04:08
drop you know one half of the uh
01:04:13
this is the luggage the luggage jared's
01:04:16
like i'm not paying you you don't get any i get all the
01:04:18
money oh yeah i don't let you
01:04:20
no no i i got this don't no no
01:04:23
uh all right so you guys continue on to
01:04:24
the original uh elias and abe
01:04:27
are in the um uh um
01:04:31
babe uh elias looks a little
01:04:34
uncomfortable here but he's kind of like
01:04:36
he's looking or you know he's like
01:04:38
looking at everything that's going on
01:04:39
but um
01:04:40
he's clearly like he's giving
01:04:44
he's he's a rube and they're aware
01:04:46
they're all aware of it and so they're
01:04:47
very excited
01:04:48
that you are in you came in with a rube
01:04:52
so uh i did not go in with her i uh
01:04:56
with him uh as master of disguise oh
01:04:59
god here we go i on my way in like
01:05:03
dirt up my face get as grubby as i can
01:05:07
there you go and go and and like you
01:05:10
know with a limp
01:05:12
move over to the uh to the to the table
01:05:16
i love it all right
01:05:20
without drawing too much to the bar as
01:05:22
like a grizzled old man
01:05:24
[Laughter]
01:05:27
injured old man it's been looking at
01:05:30
jared too long
01:05:31
[Laughter]
01:05:33
uh i'm just uh
01:05:37
what master of disguise does i'm looking
01:05:39
it up right now for you so
01:05:40
you can spend ten lit luck points to get
01:05:43
a bonus die to your disguise role
01:05:46
um but in this case i'll just say if you
01:05:48
can either make a disguise roll or you
01:05:51
can spend the ten luck points and you
01:05:52
are well disguised
01:05:55
um just make the roll this will be
01:05:58
amazing well let me see what my disguise
01:06:00
yeah what is it that would be funny if
01:06:02
he didn't get any disguise
01:06:04
no i didn't disguise how do i make a
01:06:07
disguise
01:06:08
i'm totally sherlock holmes over here
01:06:10
25.
01:06:11
um it'll be so good if you don't make it
01:06:14
though think about that yep much though you
01:06:17
know i'm gonna
01:06:19
we we've got a lot of inspiration maybe
01:06:21
i just give this a roll
01:06:23
yeah do it so um if you if you're just
01:06:26
joining us from uh the raid again thank you so much
01:06:29
for showing up
01:06:30
um inspiration when people give
01:06:31
inspiration our players can use it for
01:06:33
re-rolls
01:06:37
87 all right so i smell some inspiration
01:06:40
anybody want to second that
01:06:41
they did all right maybe i don't know
01:06:48
[Music]
01:06:54
oh that is exciting
01:06:57
all right
01:07:00
my god so i look like a rube
01:07:03
who is throwing dirt on their face and
01:07:05
walked into this
01:07:07
i'd love it if you if they saw you do it
01:07:09
from the outside yes
01:07:11
yes yeah so so like everyone watches as
01:07:15
you put on
01:07:16
like you have that that fake beard that
01:07:18
has like the glasses hooks
01:07:20
and so you're like putting that on in
01:07:22
the street
01:07:23
and then you sit down and change your
01:07:25
shoes and like that is the extent of
01:07:27
your and
01:07:28
then you walk in like i have a powerful
01:07:31
thirst
01:07:33
hello person i've never met hello fellow
01:07:36
miners
01:07:37
yes i'm outstanding
01:07:42
so uh we we actually have a couple new
01:07:44
people here so
01:07:46
uh we keep track we have three stats
01:07:48
that we keep track of let me see if i
01:07:50
can get them all right we have
01:07:51
uh an emma which just happened which is
01:07:54
if somebody
01:07:55
rolls and then uses inspiration and then
01:07:58
fumbles
01:08:00
then we have an amy which is you roll
01:08:03
and then you use inspiration and you
01:08:06
roll worse but it's not a fumble and
01:08:08
then we have a nick which is you roll
01:08:10
and you roll the exact same thing those
01:08:13
are our
01:08:14
those are three categories that we we we
01:08:16
track here
01:08:17
so so yeah um abe uh uh
01:08:20
elias is just like i have never met
01:08:24
that man over there playing cards that
01:08:25
i'm watching
01:08:27
astutely i just
01:08:30
i i as my drink comes i'll be like
01:08:34
he definitely needs two of these if you
01:08:36
could send them over thank you
01:08:38
and then just do a shot and like you
01:08:41
know very manly like straddle the um
01:08:44
straddle the stump yeah and then there
01:08:47
are chairs here there are chairs here oh
01:08:48
there are chairs here okay
01:08:50
fantastic and then put down whatever it
01:08:52
is to get in you know so
01:08:54
is it like no is it a dollar
01:08:57
yeah it's a dollar buy-in because you
01:08:59
ordered a beer
01:09:00
and a whiskey when you said two of these
01:09:02
did you point at both of them so he's
01:09:04
getting yeah it's my shot when i said two of
01:09:06
these it was
01:09:07
all right i did my shot looked at him
01:09:10
just like you know maybe yeah they'll
01:09:14
yeah all of a sudden in front of you uh
01:09:16
elias are two
01:09:17
shots of whiskey and uh the bartender
01:09:20
goes uh from that person you don't know at
01:09:23
the high roller table
01:09:26
ah and at that moment i slammed the
01:09:28
first one
01:09:29
[Laughter]
01:09:32
uh
01:09:34
[Laughter]
01:09:41
[Laughter]
01:09:44
um outstanding so uh
01:09:47
you uh uh you will uh play a couple
01:09:50
hands of poker
01:09:51
uh make me a gambling
01:09:54
goal okay
01:09:58
oh jesus criminy
01:10:01
all right so 99. so
01:10:05
you you win four hands in a row
01:10:09
you are up like 50 dollars
01:10:13
and you're like oh i'm buying drinks for
01:10:15
everybody
01:10:16
yeah you're going crazy you're going
01:10:18
crazy and
01:10:19
you um you bet everything you have
01:10:24
you throw all of your money you you have
01:10:27
you have
01:10:28
twenty dollars tucked away that you
01:10:30
can't reach
01:10:31
but you're just you have two aces
01:10:34
you've got a full house you are so sure
01:10:37
you're like pulling money out of
01:10:39
everywhere and you're just throwing it
01:10:41
on the table i call elias over here i'll
01:10:43
be like alive come on and watch this
01:10:45
this is gonna be amazing
01:10:46
bring your beer get your beer
01:10:50
and uh uh and then you lay down your
01:10:53
full house
01:10:54
and you start to like scoop in the money
01:10:56
and um um
01:10:58
uh the guy who was gambling who you've
01:11:00
now come to learn
01:11:02
uh um he says that his name is just
01:11:03
dakota
01:11:05
um well now
01:11:08
not so fast there mr froman and he
01:11:11
throws
01:11:12
down his cards and he has a royal flush
01:11:18
well looky there looks like
01:11:21
your luck has run out and he just scoops
01:11:24
all the money over
01:11:26
can i do a quick look around the table
01:11:29
since she called me over to make sure
01:11:31
that there's no duplicates of cards out
01:11:33
so yeah you totally can look at that
01:11:35
there are not duplicates
01:11:36
you don't see any duplicates um and
01:11:40
uh the the other two miners that we're
01:11:42
playing are
01:11:43
like are like pissed and they get up and
01:11:46
they walk away
01:11:47
and uh dakota looks at you and he says
01:11:50
um he says
01:11:51
it was truly a pleasure to uh become
01:11:54
acquainted with your style of cards mr
01:11:56
frohman
01:11:59
now tell me you came from kansas city
01:12:01
did you not
01:12:02
indeed i did sir so are you uh
01:12:06
are you a pina baker man
01:12:10
do i know what that is you have no idea
01:12:13
no yeah okay
01:12:17
sir i am an upstanding citizen that's
01:12:20
what i am
01:12:21
i'm an honest individual who does not
01:12:24
cheat at cards
01:12:25
and like lifts my eyebrow at him well i
01:12:28
see
01:12:29
uh so you are not a pina baker man then
01:12:35
indeed i am not just okay sure
01:12:39
let's see and uh what do you think of uh
01:12:44
mr stratton i haven't been the
01:12:48
pleasure of making myself acquainted
01:12:49
with the gentleman yet well
01:12:52
you know the way i see it you have paid
01:12:55
for
01:12:56
a few words of my advice
01:13:01
it is in everyone's best interest
01:13:04
especially folks coming from kansas city
01:13:08
to keep mr stratton happy
01:13:12
he doesn't trust anyone from kansas city
01:13:18
thanks for the advice sir and i just
01:13:20
take my beer and just sort of like go
01:13:23
go stand in the corner by myself at this
01:13:25
point put on the beard
01:13:27
i know just be like oh just go in sulk
01:13:32
yeah just sulk in the corner with the
01:13:33
bartender uh i feel like yeah
01:13:35
yeah got me another drink bro
01:13:38
i'm gonna i am going to ask the
01:13:40
bartender uh
01:13:42
if he knows what a penny baker man is
01:13:46
uh well uh mr pinnabaker
01:13:50
owns uh the lone pine in a number of
01:13:53
other buildings in town
01:13:59
i see
01:14:02
there been a lot of trouble between the
01:14:05
two
01:14:06
make a psychology role
01:14:11
hold on orange is first
01:14:16
blue is first
01:14:21
uh he's clearly a little uncut like when
01:14:24
you say is there any trouble he's
01:14:25
clearly a little uncomfortable
01:14:27
and he says why would there be trouble
01:14:32
what's wrong with kansas city well
01:14:35
that's where petabaker's from
01:14:40
how long has penn baker been here
01:14:45
since the less than a year
01:14:49
how long has uh stratton been here well
01:14:52
stratton damn near started this town
01:14:57
you uh know anything about exploding
01:15:00
trees
01:15:03
egg pardon trees that explode
01:15:08
like this and i show him my drawing
01:15:11
well that is uh uh um
01:15:15
that is some tree you have drawn there
01:15:17
sir
01:15:19
i uh
01:15:22
i do not know anything about exploding
01:15:24
trees no sir
01:15:25
um was not aware that something trees
01:15:28
did
01:15:29
don't get a lot of trees in the uh bar
01:15:35
right good days
01:15:39
yeah you and your friend are always
01:15:40
welcome here
01:15:44
i'm just throwing my let's get out of
01:15:46
here
01:15:47
so uh just just to be clear the guy who
01:15:50
um
01:15:52
you didn't lose to the house you lost to
01:15:54
this guy who
01:15:55
was essentially one of the players it
01:15:57
wasn't so there's it's not like a casino
01:15:59
where there's you know the house and
01:16:00
cash in and everything this was just
01:16:02
people playing
01:16:04
um but you know you did buy a number of
01:16:07
rounds first so you are now very popular
01:16:10
like the people when you walk out
01:16:11
everyone's like
01:16:16
uh all right so back to the hotel
01:16:20
you uh you come in to the original which
01:16:22
is um
01:16:24
for the three of you one of the nicer
01:16:26
places you know it's a very nice hotel
01:16:28
seems perfectly acceptable uh and
01:16:31
uh you know you uh there are
01:16:35
there are six rooms available so you can
01:16:37
you know you guys cannot there's room
01:16:39
for all of you
01:16:40
um rooms
01:16:44
god see this is why i don't keep track
01:16:46
of money and stuff because i already
01:16:47
forgot what i said i think
01:16:48
you said uh if it was two dollars for a
01:16:50
room here and five dollars at the there
01:16:52
you go that's two dollars
01:16:54
uh rooms are two dollars a night uh
01:16:57
if you want uh if you wanna
01:17:00
pay for a week
01:17:04
then we'll call it uh we'll call it ten
01:17:06
dollars for seven days
01:17:10
uh breakfast is included
01:17:16
and uh we'll give you one bath for the
01:17:18
week for that ten dollars
01:17:22
that sounds reasonable to me
01:17:26
so i'll i'll pay 10 bucks to
01:17:30
get a room and all right well that for
01:17:32
me for a week eric looks a little
01:17:34
uncomfortable he does
01:17:35
i'm i'm right now i'm worried about
01:17:38
getting this two dollars that i have and i'm
01:17:41
trying to figure out
01:17:42
would i in my past experience with abe
01:17:45
would i
01:17:46
set him up with a room for a week but i
01:17:49
don't have the money to put it down but
01:17:50
just assure the person like my employer will
01:17:55
uh i'm sleeping outside
01:17:58
i'm not paying for it look oh it comes
01:18:00
with a bath ooh
01:18:01
[Music]
01:18:03
um highway robbery uh uh well sure
01:18:06
uh if you need we don't uh
01:18:12
you're gonna need to talk to helen about
01:18:14
that
01:18:16
telling about what setting up with uh
01:18:18
abe with a room
01:18:20
yeah if you're gonna want credit you're
01:18:21
gonna need to talk to our credit manager
01:18:23
hello i'll just oh wait oh i'll just sit
01:18:25
on one of the chests and wait for
01:18:27
abe to show up he looks disappointed
01:18:29
when you like go away he says
01:18:31
because our credit manager is hell and
01:18:32
wait if you want credit go to hell and
01:18:35
[Laughter]
01:18:38
white
01:18:52
all right are you getting the week yeah
01:18:55
okay yeah no problem uh uh he
01:18:59
should so uh were y'all uh in town for
01:19:05
well i was um looking around for
01:19:10
for blacksmith job
01:19:14
oh well uh you know i bet noble could
01:19:18
use the help
01:19:20
i heard i also heard that mr stratton
01:19:24
might need a blacksmith
01:19:31
well sir uh i would not presume
01:19:34
to know what mr stratton needs
01:19:37
he's a fine man
01:19:42
the town could always use another
01:19:44
blacksmith i'm sure
01:19:47
but uh no i i heard a rumor that uh
01:19:51
stratton was looking so i was thinking
01:19:53
of i could try to uh talk to mr stratton
01:19:59
do you know you know he's probably over
01:20:02
at the elkhorn
01:20:07
i'm sure he is uh you know he's there
01:20:10
within normal business hours
01:20:13
thank you his office
01:20:19
uh let me show you all your rooms and uh
01:20:23
uh you know you can uh um
01:20:26
by the way elias uh sorry abe you you
01:20:29
know that
01:20:30
you can always wire for more money yeah
01:20:32
you know you can
01:20:33
that's not a huge deal it just means
01:20:35
that for a little while you don't have a
01:20:37
lot of so for a little while all you have is 20
01:20:39
bucks yep
01:20:42
um uh uh
01:20:46
and so he'll he'll show you the rooms
01:20:47
are you know very nice they're they're
01:20:50
solid they they have a lock which is uh
01:20:53
uh which you really like and uh they
01:20:56
have a little chest
01:20:57
with a key in it so you can lock your
01:20:59
your belongings in a chest
01:21:01
um there is no uh there's no cleaning
01:21:04
service or anything like that
01:21:06
uh but yeah they're they're lovely rooms
01:21:13
um as he is uh jonesy as he is
01:21:16
putting you in your room he puts you in
01:21:18
last and um and he'll say well
01:21:21
here's a room and uh you know word for
01:21:23
the wise
01:21:26
uh mr stratton
01:21:29
is a very competitive man so
01:21:32
you know if you're if you're trying to
01:21:36
break into the blacksmith business he
01:21:38
would be
01:21:40
probably very interested in some sort of
01:21:42
competition to noble
01:21:45
good to know thank you
01:21:48
you know uh always glad to welcome
01:21:51
another potential member to the stratton
01:21:53
family
01:21:55
do you like working for mr stratton
01:21:59
you know he's he's his checks cash
01:22:05
he's good he's good i'm
01:22:08
i'm never you know you don't do anything
01:22:11
wrong
01:22:13
nothing bad happens to you
01:22:16
i've heard rumors of bad things in in
01:22:18
this town though
01:22:21
i've heard rumors that people have come
01:22:23
in and never left
01:22:27
well uh yeah most those folks are minors
01:22:30
[Music]
01:22:32
have you do we have a lot of marshals
01:22:35
and things coming in here i
01:22:38
and i look around like suspiciously like
01:22:40
i heard marshalls come to this town
01:22:43
have you heard of any
01:22:46
no sir we don't even have a sheriff
01:22:51
no sheriff oh
01:22:54
well you know most uh most real disputes
01:22:58
get uh get settled by mr stratton
01:23:03
threatened judge andre
01:23:06
well no we we we tend to uh
01:23:10
you know we tend to have uh uh if
01:23:12
there's some sort of problem that needs
01:23:14
dealing with
01:23:15
we create a a town council and uh
01:23:18
they decide what the punishment should
01:23:20
be
01:23:24
we ain't drawn and quartered somebody
01:23:26
for quite a while
01:23:28
oh he's moving up
01:23:32
he's good so um but yeah no there has
01:23:35
not been any marshals here or anybody
01:23:37
like anything like that i just you know
01:23:43
well sir you've now said the word
01:23:44
marshall three more times that i'm
01:23:46
comfortable with well because
01:23:48
i'm worried about that that's all i just
01:23:50
and i'm just between you and me just
01:23:51
between you and me
01:23:53
i just don't want to have them here
01:23:56
that's all
01:23:57
well uh i i i hate seen one since
01:24:01
i've been here and uh you know i don't
01:24:03
know
01:24:05
if they did come here i don't know what
01:24:06
they do
01:24:09
good good to know thank you thank you i
01:24:11
mean we're not
01:24:12
you know we're not you know church ain't
01:24:15
full on sunday but we're not a bad town
01:24:18
it's good to know thank you i'm i'm
01:24:21
liking so far
01:24:22
well that's you know
01:24:26
that's all that's all you can hope for
01:24:28
um
01:24:31
y'all take care and he'll head off yeah
01:24:34
so um about this time jared uh
01:24:38
uh abe and elias will come in
01:24:41
and you you recognize all too well
01:24:45
uh abe's i just lost a lot of money face
01:24:52
i'd take my pinky ring off and give it
01:24:54
to jared and be like can you secure me a
01:24:56
room down payment until i get to the bank
01:24:58
tomorrow you know
01:25:00
like you know the drill if it cheers you
01:25:03
up there's a
01:25:04
there's a discount on the rooms if you
01:25:06
stay
01:25:07
for a week it's only ten dollars it
01:25:10
doesn't turn out
01:25:14
so you hand you you go up and you
01:25:18
get two rooms and you just hand him this
01:25:21
pinky ring
01:25:23
two rooms oh yeah are you getting
01:25:25
yourself a room
01:25:27
why would i no i i ca that's
01:25:30
that that kind of money can be spent i
01:25:32
heard beers are a nickel here
01:25:34
it's true and i got two dollars
01:25:39
actually quite well made
01:25:43
the real story is is with down with the
01:25:45
people that's what i've heard so
01:25:47
uh i also will not be able to get a room
01:25:50
here
01:25:51
[Laughter]
01:25:52
i said two rooms i don't care who stays
01:25:54
in the other one i mean unless they're
01:25:56
adjoining
01:25:57
and then i'll just take both uh this
01:26:00
ring this ring seems very nice and uh
01:26:02
so i'll put you all three up for the
01:26:04
week thank you kindly sir you'll have
01:26:07
your money
01:26:08
and i'll take a bath and i'll eat your
01:26:10
breakfast if you really want me to
01:26:13
there we go fits right quite nicely
01:26:16
really drying every finger
01:26:18
small as this guy's fingers he's a
01:26:21
weasley little
01:26:22
man uh so yeah you all now have rooms
01:26:25
in the uh the original
01:26:29
uh and uh he'll point out to you he
01:26:31
gives you he shows you where the elkhorn
01:26:33
is
01:26:34
uh jonesy uh
01:26:38
yeah so we uh meet down downstairs or
01:26:41
something after
01:26:43
after everybody gets their room and
01:26:44
everything yeah once
01:26:46
once my things are secure uh you know i
01:26:48
have the pistol that i wear on my hip
01:26:50
but everyone wears a pistol around here
01:26:52
i don't imagine that'll be noticed
01:26:54
it's true so you don't see uh there's
01:26:57
not a lot of
01:26:58
open carrying of rifles no such in town
01:27:01
but everyone has a pistol on their head
01:27:03
yeah i have nowhere to keep my
01:27:06
shotgun other than on me so that's in
01:27:09
your room
01:27:10
right like like my rifle and shotgun are
01:27:12
both in the room
01:27:13
yeah don't need them on the day today
01:27:18
i have my shotgun on me
01:27:22
all right so you're you're walking
01:27:24
around uh um you definitely get some
01:27:26
looks
01:27:27
as you're walking around with a shotgun
01:27:29
but you know
01:27:30
not a lot so i suppose the real question
01:27:34
is what exactly
01:27:36
is the cover story that we're going with
01:27:37
here because we're going to need to ask
01:27:39
about uh the pinkerton agents do we just
01:27:42
ask about
01:27:43
ask for them by name at the various
01:27:45
hotels and see if
01:27:46
they they checked in there do we have
01:27:50
and they flip through the uh
01:27:51
the notes that we haven't do we have
01:27:52
their cover story
01:27:54
so we can ask their names um
01:27:57
and uh you know oftentimes pinkerton
01:28:01
agents don't use fake names they just don't
01:28:04
announce their pinkerton agents
01:28:05
sure well we can say
01:28:09
we were some friends of ours
01:28:12
came here earlier sent word to us
01:28:16
that there was some good work and
01:28:19
uh we're trying to catch up with them
01:28:23
um and i keep hearing that uh that uh
01:28:26
stratton once say a blacksmith
01:28:29
so i'm trying to figure out how to see
01:28:32
if i can get a meeting
01:28:34
well if there's any way that we can
01:28:35
avoid dealing with the the politics of
01:28:38
this town i'd prefer to but i i we're just here to
01:28:42
get our men and get back out
01:28:44
and hopefully the the agent the leader
01:28:46
that they were here to get
01:28:48
but i i'm settling for just the agents
01:28:51
if we can
01:28:53
i i asked if there was any federal
01:28:55
agents that came into town and the
01:28:58
um the hotel man was very saying no
01:29:01
no federal agents come here so they did
01:29:03
not use that as a
01:29:05
well not not off not our pink attend
01:29:08
agents are federal agents
01:29:10
most are not i mean i'm a federal and i
01:29:12
say very quietly i'm a federal agent
01:29:14
but you stand but i wanted to see if
01:29:17
they had anything like that here but
01:29:19
they don't
01:29:23
right well um
01:29:29
i i again i'd prefer to avoid dealing
01:29:32
with uh mr stratton if at all possible
01:29:34
let's let's start off by asking around
01:29:37
at the various
01:29:38
uh hotels and whatnot
01:29:41
just to see if our men stayed here i
01:29:43
mean yeah yeah
01:29:45
we all have the names we all have the
01:29:46
names right we already have them okay
01:29:48
um ezra how long ago did the pinkerton
01:29:51
agents come
01:29:52
up here uh it was in the fall
01:29:56
okay so that was the last that was when
01:29:57
the when the stagecoach driver said that
01:30:00
that was the last time he was up here
01:30:01
that was when they came up
01:30:03
maybe not on that stage coach but they
01:30:05
were up here in the the last time that
01:30:07
they got the pinkerton got any sort of
01:30:08
report from them was
01:30:10
let's say october okay
01:30:17
uh i by the way for the chat the chat
01:30:18
wants to know what dynamite
01:30:20
cost uh back then according to the book
01:30:24
25 cents a stick i think we can get a gm
01:30:28
discount for getting dynamite though
01:30:30
[Laughter]
01:30:33
i do need to go to the general store so
01:30:36
well they they would be happy to get your business
01:30:38
i'm sure they would
01:30:40
so you got so the really the only other
01:30:43
hotel in town there's the flop house and
01:30:46
then there's the lone pine
01:30:49
and generally i mean because we've been
01:30:50
pinkerton agents for a while a little
01:30:52
while at least
01:30:53
so we would know that they wouldn't
01:30:56
generally stay at the flop house is that
01:30:58
not generally something that's
01:30:59
encouraged
01:31:00
or would they have done so maybe to
01:31:02
maintain a lower cover or does it not
01:31:03
matter
01:31:05
you know pinkerton is a super loose
01:31:09
you know it's not like here here's the
01:31:11
procedures and you know there's not a
01:31:13
policy manual
01:31:15
it's a you know you are
01:31:18
we don't care how you do it here's what
01:31:20
we want you to do not
01:31:21
do they reimburse
01:31:25
uh they can yes cool
01:31:29
right well what happens is you complete
01:31:31
your mission and you get
01:31:33
some you get paid um
01:31:36
i'll go and talk to the the general
01:31:38
manager the person at the front desk
01:31:41
um and and inquire about our lost
01:31:44
friends unless you all think that isn't
01:31:46
a good idea
01:31:50
perfect fantasy we should find out if uh
01:31:55
if they were in trouble with anyone
01:31:56
before we go
01:31:58
asking about so getting that out of the
01:32:01
way sooner rather than later
01:32:03
well but who do you intend to ask
01:32:06
whether or not they were in trouble with
01:32:07
anybody
01:32:08
they could be anywhere in trouble right
01:32:11
and there's there's around 800 people in
01:32:13
this town
01:32:14
i mean well i'm not saying not to do it
01:32:16
i'm saying let's get it out of the way
01:32:18
if we're all here you
01:32:19
asked found in trouble we can split
01:32:21
that's what i'm saying
01:32:24
all right so i'll go talk to the general
01:32:26
manager to fill out the desk
01:32:27
all right uh yes ma'am just a quick
01:32:31
question for you um we
01:32:32
we were in contact with some friends of
01:32:34
oz who came up here uh last october
01:32:37
and wondering if do you keep records
01:32:40
that far back
01:32:42
uh well ma'am we're we don't we don't
01:32:44
usually share our records
01:32:47
i i understand that but i'm a bit
01:32:48
worried about my friends they
01:32:50
they came up here told us there was good
01:32:51
work up here and then just
01:32:53
vanished off the face of the planet
01:32:57
well how about you give me some names
01:32:59
and i'll tell you
01:33:00
i can do a check and i'll let you know
01:33:02
if they're in there that way i don't i'm
01:33:04
not sharing
01:33:06
confidential information with you
01:33:09
sure that that makes perfect sense and
01:33:11
i'll give him the names of of the three
01:33:13
agents all right um he will go
01:33:16
he sits at a desk behind uh behind the
01:33:19
counter
01:33:20
uh and he pulls a big old logbook
01:33:23
out of a desk and he starts to look
01:33:27
through it
01:33:28
are we all craning over and watching
01:33:32
i mean i mean i'm i'm leaning against
01:33:34
the desk my elbow on it my chin on my
01:33:36
fist and feet kicked back a little just
01:33:38
just waiting uh
01:33:43
uh well sir uh it looks like those folks
01:33:46
did stay here last summer this is that
01:33:50
they're here in the summer we lost heard
01:33:51
from them in october
01:33:53
well i see um well they
01:33:56
they stayed with us for a few weeks in
01:33:59
july
01:34:02
any notion of what mata what where they
01:34:04
might have gone from here
01:34:07
you know we we don't ask that's that
01:34:11
that's probably smart with most of them
01:34:12
with most clientele around here
01:34:16
uh but they yeah they were here in july
01:34:19
all right
01:34:20
well thank you kindly yes ma'am
01:34:24
now and i'll slide an extra dollar
01:34:26
across the counter for for his trouble
01:34:28
oh wow well well thank you kindly ma'am
01:34:30
thanks kindly
01:34:35
god i actually have to keep track of
01:34:36
money it's annoying
01:34:39
if you lose it all
01:34:42
yeah fair enough all right so i'll come
01:34:44
back to the group and be like well
01:34:46
they did stay here for a few weeks but
01:34:47
they were here in july
01:34:52
did they come i i don't remember the the
01:34:55
the agency told us they came up here in
01:34:58
october didn't they
01:35:00
so the agency told you that the last
01:35:02
they heard from them
01:35:04
was in october got it okay okay
01:35:07
sorry they'd been up in colorado
01:35:11
for some time the agency didn't tell you
01:35:13
why
01:35:14
um oh wait you know they did that they
01:35:16
did they did they're looking for the
01:35:18
civil warfare fellow and how is the
01:35:21
communication
01:35:22
do we know how the communication usually
01:35:24
is like
01:35:25
telegram okay so we could actually go to
01:35:27
the telegram office tomorrow
01:35:29
well what time is it right now i mean
01:35:30
i've already been
01:35:32
late afternoon okay so like i've already
01:35:34
drank a lot and
01:35:35
lost all my money so it's been a ritual
01:35:40
having a good day so far not entirely
01:35:45
so my suggestion is that we go back over
01:35:48
toward the lone pond
01:35:49
and see if maybe our our agents jumped
01:35:52
over there
01:35:53
uh and stayed there after after july
01:35:57
sounds like a good idea maybe uh head in
01:35:59
the back door
01:36:00
it's either that or sp aspen spell no
01:36:03
you know i don't know how much we want
01:36:06
to cross that sven fella
01:36:10
we're going to have to talk to this uh
01:36:12
this guy
01:36:13
strat why why why do we have to involve
01:36:17
ourselves in local politics
01:36:19
because one businessman to another
01:36:21
businessman
01:36:23
meetings meeting in the social
01:36:24
situations it's just a courtesy it's
01:36:26
just a plain courtesy
01:36:27
at some point he's going to invite me
01:36:29
for lunch
01:36:31
i just give abe the most the most blank
01:36:33
look oh you mean yourself about the
01:36:35
other businessman
01:36:39
yes i was thinking of myself as the
01:36:41
other business person that they would
01:36:43
talk to
01:36:48
all right so you guys head to the lone
01:36:49
pine um
01:36:51
and sven is still just
01:36:54
oh you you've come back sneaking in the
01:36:58
back way right
01:37:00
is there a back way in this sort of
01:37:02
place not really
01:37:04
okay
01:37:08
this is way before safety standards
01:37:10
elias like walks around the building and
01:37:12
then comes back in the front door
01:37:14
oh there's always a window or something
01:37:16
you could probably climb in a window yes
01:37:19
be a little weird uh well um
01:37:22
if they leave a window open they're
01:37:24
saying they're open for business
01:37:26
that's hold on let me put my beard on
01:37:28
home
01:37:30
i actually take it out of my pocket and
01:37:32
give it back to you be like here
01:37:34
you forgot this beard if you're gonna
01:37:36
jackson
01:37:37
what what in god's name are you doing no
01:37:40
uh i i don't do that
01:37:44
don't teach us so inside the lone pine
01:37:47
is a very nice uh well appropriate
01:37:50
appropriated hotel
01:37:52
uh the the lobby has red velvet and it's
01:37:55
you know in very good shape um and
01:37:58
there is a bellhop who is like waiting
01:38:01
and when you come in he walks right up and
01:38:03
he says you got any bags
01:38:04
i can get your bags
01:38:08
i just think farther into like my code
01:38:12
thank you i think i think we're good for
01:38:14
the moment is there a restaurant here
01:38:16
too you said there is a restaurant
01:38:18
that's where we say we're going right oh
01:38:21
oh you're just going to the restaurant
01:38:23
oh okay well i'll take you right over
01:38:26
and
01:38:27
so you basically take a right and
01:38:28
there's a small room
01:38:30
with you know three tables in it uh and
01:38:33
a bar and um and a bar
01:38:36
and a bar and uh uh yeah they'll they'll
01:38:39
sit you down and
01:38:41
uh the bellhop is also the waiter
01:38:44
what is their cheapest beer uh
01:38:47
well we we got uh we got um
01:38:50
we got the uh we got the homebrew cider
01:38:55
it's a uh uh it's two cents
01:38:59
okay yeah yeah i can i can do that
01:39:02
all right let me mark this down keep
01:39:05
careful track of my monies
01:39:09
uh you know they'll bring uh
01:39:12
they just sort of reflexively bring
01:39:14
everyone a beer
01:39:17
and then uh menus come and this place is
01:39:21
you know it's a little expensive it's
01:39:23
you know you get a you get a good meal
01:39:25
for three dollars
01:39:28
it's hearty fair but it's not like
01:39:32
this is not camp food this is you know
01:39:35
there's an actual
01:39:36
cook involved oh wow
01:39:42
on the menu what is there for less than
01:39:44
a dollar
01:39:46
uh well sir a baked potato you can get a
01:39:49
you can get yourself a baked potato for
01:39:51
a quarter
01:39:52
boom done all right it's they're they're
01:39:56
that's one of my favorites i enjoy i'll
01:39:57
have one of those plus the prime rib
01:40:01
maybe a vegetable definitely throw in
01:40:03
dessert also need a coffee
01:40:06
and yeah for now that's fine
01:40:10
yes sir yes sir uh can i get anyone else
01:40:12
anything
01:40:13
yeah it's uh just what uh
01:40:17
i two dollars what
01:40:20
what that can i get for two dollars well
01:40:22
for two dollars you can get yourself a
01:40:24
chicken dinner
01:40:26
oh chicken dinner yes yeah it's good
01:40:29
yeah i i think that sounds real good to
01:40:31
me too
01:40:32
all right uh what now
01:40:36
a second potato uh two baked potatoes
01:40:39
what am i
01:40:40
all right she's a vegetarian
01:40:44
apparently you can survive pretty much
01:40:45
forever on on baked potatoes and and
01:40:47
butter because it gives you everything
01:40:48
that you
01:40:49
that you actually physically need baked
01:40:51
potatoes are like my mom eats four
01:40:53
things and baked potatoes are one of
01:40:55
them
01:40:56
she loves when i still remember the day
01:40:59
this is how old i am when my mom figured
01:41:01
out that you could
01:41:02
cook baked potatoes in the microwave
01:41:04
really fast
01:41:05
and that was like maybe the greatest
01:41:07
moment of her life oh yeah
01:41:08
super excited about like five-minute
01:41:10
baked potatoes
01:41:12
yep that was my mom the the bell boy
01:41:16
will look at jared and goes
01:41:17
uh uh you can get a cup of soup for a
01:41:19
penny
01:41:24
what kind of soup uh it's a muligatani
01:41:29
what kind of soup is that uh it's kind
01:41:32
of vegetables with some
01:41:34
meat in it there's some beef in it all
01:41:37
right all right all right so
01:41:40
uh i need to order one of those as well
01:41:42
that sounds delicious
01:41:44
all right yeah you guys have a lovely
01:41:46
meal um
01:41:47
the food is very good uh uh
01:41:51
like not not uh not food you'd think to
01:41:54
get in a mining town
01:41:56
um this is like i said there's clearly a
01:41:58
a cook involved in this it's not just
01:42:00
sort of
01:42:01
what was sitting around um and the and
01:42:04
the the other thing that stands out to
01:42:06
you is that the goods
01:42:08
seem to be a very good of high quality
01:42:10
like the
01:42:12
the um the meat is not like
01:42:15
old or stringy or anything like that the
01:42:17
prime rib is
01:42:18
really good um it seems like
01:42:22
this place like the food is is excellent
01:42:25
as soon as soon as the uh as soon as the food
01:42:27
comes i i
01:42:28
i start to eat a little bit and i push
01:42:30
one of the potatoes over
01:42:32
to jared like i i ordered way too much
01:42:37
give this to you
01:42:50
yeah yeah as abe has like you all have
01:42:52
like a plate in front of you abe has
01:42:53
like five plates in front of him
01:42:56
and i have a different fork for every
01:42:58
plate yeah
01:42:59
they they yes they will definitely bring
01:43:01
you new silverware and all that stuff
01:43:03
uh i think with uh with dinner we're
01:43:06
gonna take a break
01:43:07
uh so that uh we can i have some i want
01:43:10
some m
01:43:11
ms uh that's why you take breaks
01:43:15
oh yeah that's right that's why i take
01:43:16
breaks so we will be back just as soon
01:43:19
as
01:43:21
five people can use five bathrooms and
01:43:24
get m m's four batches four baths for
01:43:25
four bedrooms
01:43:26
five people can use four bathrooms
01:43:30
using five bathrooms in five bathrooms
01:43:33
oh yes
01:43:34
you guys do math this is non-euclidean
01:43:37
math
01:43:38
he's just counting boxes not people he's
01:43:40
just counting boxes
01:43:43
i mean no one counts thomas is a person
01:43:46
sorry
01:43:47
he's the man in the box i do i do only a
01:43:51
fake potato
01:43:53
yeah yeah there you go that baked potato
01:43:56
made you a person
01:43:57
uh all right we'll be back just as soon
01:43:59
as many people can use fewer bathrooms
01:44:06
[Music]
01:44:27
[Music]
01:44:32
um
01:44:37
[Music]
01:44:46
do
01:44:48
[Music]
01:45:17
[Music]
01:45:24
[Music]
01:46:12
[Music]
01:46:34
[Music]
01:46:38
um
01:46:42
[Music]
01:46:48
[Music]
01:47:20
so
01:47:23
[Music]
01:47:34
um
01:47:37
[Music]
01:47:48
hmm
01:47:50
[Music]
01:48:16
so
01:48:20
[Music]
01:48:34
[Music]
01:48:44
so
01:48:48
[Music]
01:49:22
[Music]
01:49:40
so
01:49:44
[Music]
01:49:58
[Music]
01:50:36
welcome back uh i want to thank so much
01:50:39
devil's luck who is raiding us right now
01:50:42
uh we are playing call of cthulhu we just uh
01:50:45
never fails we go on break
01:50:46
and we got a raid so we are actually
01:50:48
going to do a give a
01:50:50
a giveaway because of all of these
01:50:53
awesome
01:50:54
uh uh raiders from both devil's luck
01:50:58
and the first one that i've already
01:50:59
forgotten which makes me a bad person
01:51:02
um but we appreciate it uh
01:51:05
so we're gonna do a giveaway of a nord
01:51:08
games luck deck now this is mainly for d d so
01:51:12
i'm gonna try and talk about it in a
01:51:13
non-uh judgmental way
01:51:16
but it is an awesome tool for a gm to
01:51:19
deal this is for the crits right
01:51:21
yes the crits and natural ones yeah so
01:51:24
whenever the party rolls at 20 they get
01:51:26
a card whenever they roll a one
01:51:27
the gm gets a card wackiness uh uh
01:51:31
ensues uh it is a fun toy so
01:51:34
uh we're gonna give one of those away in
01:51:36
a little bit
01:51:37
uh so hang around you're you're you're
01:51:40
you're gonna hear all sorts of fun uh uh all sorts of fun
01:51:44
saloon talk
01:51:46
is uh is nightbot ready nightbot's ready
01:51:50
so if you do hashtag
01:51:51
chaos all right enter to win
01:51:55
so it is hashtag chaos right now in the
01:51:57
chat
01:51:58
you will be entered to win that
01:52:00
nordgames
01:52:01
luck deck which thomas is stacking as we
01:52:04
speak
01:52:05
i am uh i i you'll get one with all of
01:52:08
the cards in it
01:52:10
yeah and they take some of ours
01:52:14
yeah we have a we have a culling process
01:52:16
of like cards that are
01:52:18
bs that we that we think are bs
01:52:21
fortuitous circumstance and a small item
01:52:22
on your person goes missing those are
01:52:24
usually the ones that get pulled
01:52:25
yeah because the small item on your
01:52:27
person is always a grenade that's
01:52:30
oh your arcane focus gone yeah yeah
01:52:34
spells your character is useless for the
01:52:36
rest of this session
01:52:37
thomas half threatened to do that to
01:52:38
andraste once where
01:52:40
her holy symbol would go missing which
01:52:42
would have caused a crisis of faith
01:52:44
it could have been interesting but we
01:52:45
didn't go that way nice
01:52:47
yep and so should i do some housekeeping
01:52:50
really quick yes please um so in the first part of
01:52:52
the show after we had gotten through all
01:52:54
of our opening notes we got some more bits and
01:52:57
so
01:52:58
500 bits for everybody who is joining us
01:53:00
if you donate 500 bits
01:53:02
that you can either give inspiration to
01:53:04
the gm or to the players for
01:53:06
a re-roll it doesn't mean that the
01:53:08
re-roll is going to be any better than
01:53:09
what we just rolled and so far they
01:53:11
haven't been
01:53:12
but thank you very much nonetheless for
01:53:13
the bits even though we can't roll first
01:53:15
to save our lives
01:53:16
um so the bits yep the bit sense at the
01:53:20
top of the show
01:53:21
500 from the half to the players thank
01:53:23
you very much thank you half yep
01:53:27
elder pratt to ezra something about the
01:53:30
cupcake
01:53:31
birthday cupcake or something was in
01:53:33
there so is that a birthday muffin
01:53:35
yup exactly elder brett's birthday is
01:53:37
today so happy birthday elder brat
01:53:39
elder bryant also keeps dumping a bunch
01:53:41
of subs in the chat i just want to call
01:53:42
that out because you are amazing and we
01:53:44
appreciate you so much
01:53:45
you know more people should celebrate
01:53:47
their birth their birthdays by
01:53:48
subscribing to us that's all i'm just
01:53:50
gonna epic i did that one year i i dropped
01:53:53
like 32 subs in in the
01:53:55
or 33 subs in the in in because it was
01:53:57
like one for every year i've been alive
01:53:58
and one and one to grow on god i'm turning 50
01:54:01
this year so we'll have to do something
01:54:03
do whatever we're playing a lot of money
01:54:05
yeah
01:54:06
50 or something 50 bits
01:54:09
that's what it is so muffin page
01:54:13
again muffins versus cupcakes muffin
01:54:16
gives 500
01:54:17
players thank you very much and then
01:54:19
your grace duke league has also just
01:54:21
given 500 of the players
01:54:23
so thank you how much inspiration the
01:54:26
players have
01:54:29
any any leftover inspiration that we
01:54:31
don't use
01:54:32
goes into the book of inspiration which
01:54:35
uh
01:54:36
when it accumulates a certain amount it
01:54:37
triggers a giveaway
01:54:39
i mean that's that's nice but we could
01:54:41
also
01:54:43
burn this entire town to the ground with
01:54:46
those bits no i'm just saying allocation of
01:54:49
resources we should consider our options
01:54:52
happy 12th night flag i wish we were at
01:54:55
the hotel instead of you know
01:54:56
around the virtual table but here we are
01:54:59
i you know what i'll
01:55:00
i'll take that offer right now nick you
01:55:02
get rid of all those bits and you can
01:55:03
start burning this town to the ground
01:55:07
how are you gonna even roleplay that
01:55:09
[Laughter]
01:55:13
we haven't even started the first arc
01:55:16
it's my understanding the gold is in
01:55:17
flakes we need to smelt it into bars
01:55:20
go awry
01:55:24
oh we got to get that dakota guy too
01:55:26
shake him down for all its flakes
01:55:27
oh yeah just i hate just
01:55:31
you know there uh from what i understand
01:55:33
there is no sheriff in town
01:55:35
so maybe we get this dakota guy to show
01:55:37
us around
01:55:38
the outskirts of town and the best part
01:55:41
is we don't have a marshall in the party
01:55:44
the redhead just stares in federal
01:55:47
marshall
01:55:49
also another thank you to ginger fury
01:55:52
seven
01:55:53
great name thank you for the bits um
01:55:55
again
01:55:56
seven wants us to also burn the town
01:55:58
down so this stack is getting big i
01:56:00
think the odds of this town making it
01:56:01
out alive are slim
01:56:02
oh my goodness there were so many
01:56:04
unanswered questions after the first six
01:56:06
ginger furys
01:56:09
well let's see i thought the seventh was
01:56:11
a little contrived they're starting it's
01:56:13
starting to feel formulated
01:56:15
but but uh kind of like a a question
01:56:18
because jared has been paying attention
01:56:19
to this whenever there's transactions
01:56:21
watching
01:56:22
what is the form of the gold they are
01:56:24
mining in this town
01:56:26
he wasn't there for the flakes but are
01:56:28
other people doing flakes are people
01:56:30
is there actually mining or is it mostly
01:56:31
uh panning it looks like that's
01:56:33
a great question
01:56:39
nuggets can anyone just pan is this a
01:56:41
place where like you get what you
01:56:43
and then the economy is built around
01:56:46
just the the panners well you saw an assay office
01:56:49
and so essay offices usually mean you're
01:56:51
buying a claim
01:56:52
yeah maybe we should look into that well
01:56:55
and and that usually means flakes or
01:56:58
very small nuggets
01:56:59
having been raised the child of a gold
01:57:02
miner
01:57:05
ask me about it later i refuse to put
01:57:08
roots down in this town
01:57:12
but but the idea is hypothetically if we
01:57:15
went up enough
01:57:16
stream we could find the the vein that's
01:57:19
being eroded away right
01:57:20
or is that that's not what we're here
01:57:24
for
01:57:25
you know i mean i'm at the dinner table
01:57:27
and i'm like i thought we were here to
01:57:28
find joe
01:57:29
and jeff and steve but i mean you know
01:57:32
dave
01:57:33
why is there no day no they're all it's
01:57:35
three days
01:57:36
three days
01:57:40
abe i'm just trying to help you
01:57:44
with your situation this i keep carrying
01:57:47
the bags
01:57:55
somebody is missing panning for gold
01:57:57
aren't they
01:57:59
yeah i should go up the stream
01:58:02
maybe that's where they went we we have
01:58:05
so many
01:58:06
so many questions that aren't answered
01:58:08
right now yeah we don't have time for
01:58:09
your field yeah we have to we have to
01:58:11
talk to this guy uh
01:58:12
uh penna baker yeah damn it if we
01:58:16
if if we stay focused we'll get the
01:58:18
information that we need
01:58:19
possibly find our agents or at least
01:58:21
confirm that they're dead
01:58:23
and go back to the pinkerton agency and
01:58:25
get paid that is much more sure
01:58:27
than whatever is out there oh why can't
01:58:29
we do a little
01:58:31
vote yeah if you want to buy a of a
01:58:34
mining pan or if you have one on you
01:58:36
and we happen to be at near a creek you
01:58:38
can you can go right ahead but you know
01:58:40
you might get shot
01:58:42
by someone saying hey that's my freak is
01:58:44
there a creek in the middle of the town
01:58:46
there's a creek in the middle of town
01:58:48
yeah with with with even slightly clear
01:58:50
water
01:58:51
slightly yeah i'm sure there's beaver
01:58:53
fever all up in that
01:58:57
uh it's cold that's what it's called
01:59:00
thomas
01:59:02
oh man it's a family show
01:59:06
it's a family show
01:59:12
i'm really trying not to call the next
01:59:14
episode beaver fever you all come from
01:59:16
family
01:59:19
take that youtube my dad got beaver
01:59:21
fever one one time
01:59:23
that's how tiana came about
01:59:29
you know no
01:59:32
fever fever is real bad at all it's
01:59:35
basically dysentery
01:59:36
yeah uh yeah but i have bieber fever
01:59:41
why the kids that's crazy
01:59:45
that's crazy the kid can sing reasonably
01:59:47
well but he's kind of a [ __ ] person
01:59:50
they're just describing any entertainer
01:59:53
though so
01:59:54
yeah and depends there's some that i
01:59:56
follow who are pretty good people
01:59:58
yeah that's the thing like a warranty
02:00:00
they're called actors
02:00:03
all right guys yeah right and
02:00:06
roleplay [Laughter]
02:00:11
i was gonna say case in point but i kind
02:00:13
of wanted to be nice to us
02:00:15
but you know that that's a professional
02:00:17
gm right there
02:00:18
um so yeah dinner uh you have a lovely
02:00:21
dinner it's you know
02:00:22
six o'clock ish or so um this hotel
02:00:25
seems very calm
02:00:27
um but you definitely hear carousing
02:00:29
going on outside
02:00:32
uh excuse me good sir is mr pennybaker
02:00:35
available i would like to compliment him
02:00:37
on
02:00:38
his excellent choice in meat um i myself
02:00:41
a sausage man
02:00:46
there's the next fever there's the next
02:00:48
one right
02:00:49
sausage man i know a fine cut of meat
02:00:51
when i see it and this man knows his
02:00:54
meat
02:00:59
yeah it's good hold on i gotta clip that
02:01:04
myself a sausage man
02:01:09
um uh well gosh uh
02:01:12
sure uh uh i can see if mr pennebaker is
02:01:15
available
02:01:16
i appreciate it he's
02:01:21
um and so yeah actually uh uh
02:01:24
about 10 minutes later a
02:01:27
youngish probably late 20s uh
02:01:31
very um uh very
02:01:34
uh sort of casually rich
02:01:37
dress like he's wearing casual clothes
02:01:40
but they're very high quality
02:01:42
um a blonde guy no beard
02:01:47
he comes walking in and uh abe make me a
02:01:51
luck roll
02:01:53
i'm gonna try different dice i'm gonna
02:01:54
not try my ninety-niners
02:01:57
oh one
02:02:01
dog you have a relationship that we went
02:02:04
to school together
02:02:06
abe froman is in stillwater colorado
02:02:12
i do say i am sir i get up and shake his
02:02:15
hand
02:02:16
yeah hello hello uh i know so
02:02:19
i have followed your family's success a
02:02:21
great deal um
02:02:22
i was a year after you at uh
02:02:26
name of a good university we were at
02:02:28
harvard
02:02:29
you're a harvard man yourself and i am a
02:02:31
harvard man yes yes
02:02:33
oh i'd like shake his hand i was like
02:02:35
ooh feel his arm i'm like did you row
02:02:38
uh uh no no i was uh i was i was in the
02:02:41
glee
02:02:42
i was a i was in the barbershop quartet
02:02:45
ah i see well again the appearance
02:02:48
absolutely i completely understand that
02:02:50
is those are some fantastic jews well uh
02:02:52
thank you thank you
02:02:54
uh um why are you
02:02:57
in this terrible town oh i just uh
02:03:00
follow my compatriots around i look for
02:03:02
new places to gamble
02:03:04
sights to see i'm a bit of an adventurer
02:03:06
myself
02:03:07
well i hope i hope you'll
02:03:10
you'll you'll let me you'll take
02:03:12
advantage of my hospitality please
02:03:14
i have i have fine rooms here that i
02:03:17
would love
02:03:18
as long as you stay here please i
02:03:19
consider it a personal
02:03:22
favor for you to stay here with me i
02:03:24
would i would be delighted i will have
02:03:25
my thing sent
02:03:26
over that's wonderful that's wonderful
02:03:29
and he like he pulls up a chair he's like uh reggie
02:03:32
reggie
02:03:33
a bottle of the red uh and a
02:03:36
very nice bottle of wine is brought over
02:03:39
and
02:03:40
he introduces himself to all of you as
02:03:41
walter pinabaker
02:03:44
uh and he sort of he'll tell you his
02:03:46
story
02:03:47
when uh that he um
02:03:52
he was uh uh he he works for a
02:03:55
large bank in kansas city
02:03:58
and they sent him out here uh when
02:04:02
the boom first started to essentially
02:04:05
buy up land
02:04:07
cheap and sell it to rubes for a huge
02:04:10
markup
02:04:11
and so he's he's been slowly
02:04:14
buying up land and starting businesses
02:04:17
all throughout town
02:04:18
um and he says and of course
02:04:22
of course jack does not uh does not
02:04:24
appreciate my way of doing
02:04:26
our way of doing business oh i mean
02:04:30
the stillwater gentleman uh stratton
02:04:32
jack stratton
02:04:34
yeah he was the uh he's the he's the cad
02:04:38
who started this town and he strong-arms
02:04:41
it
02:04:44
so how you uh so do you have your own uh
02:04:47
entourage if you will
02:04:49
i do and uh i have uh you know
02:04:52
um you know men come and go that's no
02:04:56
problem but i have a faithful soldier and he
02:05:00
pulls out a little whistle
02:05:01
and he blows it and it's silent
02:05:05
uh and you hear
02:05:08
and coming through the door is a giant
02:05:11
irish wolfhound
02:05:14
just a monster of a dog that just pads
02:05:17
right up to uh right up to pinna baker
02:05:20
and sits obediently at his arm and pinna
02:05:23
baker like
02:05:24
looks at the table and finds a uh finds
02:05:27
a piece of steak and he goes here king
02:05:32
this this is the sort of loyalty that
02:05:35
money can't buy
02:05:37
i i do agree and then i take out like um
02:05:40
my little silver smoke case and offer
02:05:42
him a cigarette
02:05:43
oh yeah he's very yeah okay thank you so
02:05:45
much and we just
02:05:46
smoke and commemorate and talk about
02:05:48
that that terrible history teacher that
02:05:50
we had
02:05:51
i said could i put the puppy could i put
02:05:53
the puppy please oh yes king is king's
02:05:55
very friendly
02:05:56
king's very friendly and yeah king will
02:05:58
you know you can you can easily
02:06:00
king and uh uh take care of him and that
02:06:03
sort of thing
02:06:04
will absolutely also go over and ben pet
02:06:06
the puppy because
02:06:09
he's uh he's a popular he's a popular
02:06:10
i'm going to draw
02:06:12
a picture of a puppy yeah sure yeah you
02:06:14
sketch you sketch a good drawing of king
02:06:16
what what what breed is uh is king
02:06:19
oh king is pure irish wolfhound
02:06:22
wonderful
02:06:23
if uh if he wanted to
02:06:27
king could uh king could rip your throat
02:06:28
out yep
02:06:31
they do that so uh so i'm a good man um
02:06:34
as i'm smoking and being like
02:06:36
charming as hell um so what do
02:06:39
what uh stratton what kind of rules of
02:06:41
the road is he you know what's he what's
02:06:43
what's he running here what kind of
02:06:44
angle does he run he's a thug
02:06:47
he thinks that uh anything that he
02:06:49
doesn't own he tries to burn down
02:06:52
or uh he tries to uh he tries to muscle
02:06:55
his way in
02:06:57
protection that sort of thing he's got
02:07:00
uh he's got a number of men you
02:07:01
you might have met one of his uh one of
02:07:03
his uh uh charming welcoming committee
02:07:05
at the front there
02:07:06
oh yeah the lads the lads fan yes
02:07:09
yeah you know it's easier for us to just
02:07:13
not deal with him
02:07:14
uh we're slowly but surely buying this
02:07:17
town out from under him
02:07:20
and you know the old ways
02:07:23
are not prepared for the new ways and we
02:07:26
just have to
02:07:28
see where we can make money in the
02:07:29
growing pains we're good on you sir
02:07:32
thank you how do you keep the peace then
02:07:35
if it's just
02:07:36
uh monoimano hair
02:07:40
well uh there there's not a lot of peace
02:07:44
there tends to be a fair amount of uh
02:07:48
you know there there's trouble now and
02:07:50
then but um
02:07:52
stratton's enough of a businessman to
02:07:54
not take things too far
02:07:59
i noticed the the the jail when when we
02:08:01
came in but i i hear there isn't a law
02:08:04
enforcement presence
02:08:05
how exactly does that work
02:08:10
well uh if somebody does something awful
02:08:14
we have a we we get a town council that
02:08:16
acts as the jury
02:08:18
and they decide what you know if it's
02:08:21
just a couple nights in the jail
02:08:23
or if it's kicking them out of town
02:08:26
stratton's a little too fond of tarring
02:08:28
and feathering
02:08:30
oh ah barbaric practice yes i
02:08:33
i don't i don't see any need for that
02:08:35
sort of thing
02:08:36
so what do you do if you find out
02:08:38
somebody comes to your town to hide
02:08:41
from whatever do you invite them in or
02:08:49
can i make a roll
02:08:53
i think we all want to make psychology
02:08:54
roles now really you are welcome too
02:08:56
yeah you are welcome to uh
02:09:00
in the box in the box
02:09:03
i mean he clearly uh you know
02:09:07
i have a five i wrote psychiatry
02:09:09
actually uh or psychology on
02:09:12
johanna johanna not on my friend like i
02:09:16
know
02:09:17
all right with that whole last statement
02:09:19
that you said
02:09:21
i i i i wrote psychology on penna baker
02:09:24
when when he made that comment sure and
02:09:26
you made it
02:09:27
yes uh well so he is um
02:09:31
uh he's not used to such direct
02:09:35
indirect statements uh and uh
02:09:38
he's he clearly takes a a beat to like
02:09:42
think about his answer um and
02:09:46
uh well uh
02:09:50
i i have not been in the habit of asking
02:09:53
too many questions
02:09:58
because you know in my experience in
02:10:00
stillwater
02:10:02
it's it's a fine town to find a new life
02:10:07
does stratton ask a lot of questions
02:10:10
about people who come in here
02:10:11
he seems to have his finger on the pulse
02:10:13
of everything
02:10:16
no i don't think i don't think either
02:10:19
i think stratton looks at everyone and
02:10:21
wonders how he can how they can be of
02:10:23
use to stratton
02:10:24
as opposed to thinking i like to think a
02:10:27
little more strategically
02:10:30
that's very fair you know someone can
02:10:32
help the town
02:10:34
without necessarily helping me and it
02:10:37
still
02:10:38
is a net positive
02:10:42
you're working down tone to help the
02:10:43
town not necessarily yourself
02:10:46
well i'm working to make money and
02:10:50
when the town does well i do well
02:10:54
and my employers do well
02:10:58
although so uh uh with that good
02:11:02
psychology role
02:11:03
the one thing you'll notice is you know
02:11:05
he's clearly kind of
02:11:09
he doesn't think of it in terms of him
02:11:11
being employed like he's definitely
02:11:13
thinking like i'm running
02:11:15
things here you know he's not he's not
02:11:17
like
02:11:18
oh i have to make sure that my bosses
02:11:20
back in kansas city are aware of what's
02:11:22
going on sure and i mean his bosses in kansas
02:11:24
city are two days away
02:11:26
yes at best yeah so
02:11:29
yeah i can see that i want to know what
02:11:32
uh
02:11:33
abe's role told him about jonesy me too
02:11:36
i
02:11:41
why did you ask that question well i was
02:11:44
thinking that uh we're here because we had people
02:11:47
coming
02:11:48
after that civil war guy so i was
02:11:51
wondering if you know that they harbored
02:11:53
people here i was wondering if he had a
02:11:54
sense of that
02:11:55
kind of harboring and then that would
02:11:57
have made our guys
02:11:59
fight with the people in town right all
02:12:01
right so so abe you have a sense of that
02:12:03
you have a sense of sort of
02:12:04
the why uh uh uh susannah asked
02:12:07
joanna asked that question having a
02:12:09
johanna anna suzanna is really
02:12:11
yeah so it's johanna that's why i called
02:12:13
myself jonesy gonzi there you go
02:12:15
yeah uh i just thought personally that
02:12:17
johanna was gonna
02:12:19
just need a place to hide and i wasn't
02:12:21
too sure what what we didn't know yet
02:12:23
i was starting to wonder that could also
02:12:25
be passed
02:12:26
uh last chance hashtag chaos in the chat
02:12:30
to be entered for that nord games deck uh
02:12:34
okay uh so yeah pinabaker is like
02:12:38
openly he's just very happy a to have
02:12:42
somebody who has you know appreciates
02:12:45
the finer things but also you know like
02:12:47
he recognizes you and that sort of thing
02:12:49
and so he's
02:12:50
he is very happy to answer any questions
02:12:52
you have about the town and he'll
02:12:54
he'll tell you that you know he his main
02:12:58
uh his main businesses uh are
02:13:01
uh uh he's very proud of the fact that
02:13:04
stratton didn't think of starting an
02:13:05
assay office
02:13:06
and so uh the assay office is actually
02:13:09
owned by him and so
02:13:10
most of the mining money is going to him
02:13:13
and so stratton makes most of his money
02:13:15
off of drinks and [ __ ]
02:13:17
got it and like i just kind of
02:13:21
like a good man so where are
02:13:24
my friends my friends here were
02:13:25
interested in potentially just doing
02:13:26
some
02:13:27
side panning for you know as tourist
02:13:29
type of you know
02:13:30
fun things um don't ask i
02:13:33
just you know i enjoy i enjoy fine
02:13:36
liquor
02:13:37
they enjoy digging in the dirt for rocks
02:13:40
so um where are perhaps the best mining
02:13:44
areas the best panning areas you know
02:13:46
what have you seen
02:13:49
well uh just based on what people are
02:13:51
bringing in
02:13:52
it seems like the farther the farther
02:13:54
you head up in the mountains
02:13:56
following the stream the better you do
02:13:58
uh
02:13:59
there's nothing close to town anymore
02:14:02
that's all you know that's that's all been uh uh
02:14:06
been pretty well uh cleared
02:14:10
we had uh we had some friends come
02:14:12
through here uh last
02:14:13
summer i believe uh and i give him the
02:14:16
names and i asked
02:14:17
do do they happen to uh do you recognize
02:14:20
them at all did they buy a
02:14:22
buy a claim or anything they were
02:14:25
friends of all of yours
02:14:29
oh yeah i had never made their
02:14:30
acquaintance actually technically that's
02:14:32
an odd question can i can i psychology that
02:14:35
you don't need to psychology that
02:14:39
sure you can psychology that i already i
02:14:42
think i already know
02:14:45
sweet 20 associate with all of you
02:14:47
associate with these people
02:14:49
was the question that was just asked
02:14:52
22 out of 40 success yeah essentially
02:14:54
what nick says like he was
02:14:56
he's he's clearly trying to see if you
02:14:58
are all tied to them
02:15:00
and it's weird that like five of us are
02:15:02
looking for our three friends
02:15:04
and i'm uh what is it uh elias
02:15:08
basically said he was a friend of yeah
02:15:09
i'm gonna be like oh i know the
02:15:11
through elias i'm i'm dodging this
02:15:13
bullet
02:15:15
i i did it i did it i i worked for um
02:15:19
the the post as a freelance stringer oh
02:15:23
so i'm i did an article on uh one of
02:15:26
them in the past and they sent me some
02:15:28
information and said that they were
02:15:29
coming here and then
02:15:30
um you know i might have a story you
02:15:34
might be interested in
02:15:36
oh yeah i know you're always looking for
02:15:37
an angle we have
02:15:41
we have uh for about a week now
02:15:46
up in the up in the hills uh there was
02:15:49
a a silver mine and
02:15:52
nobody from the silver mine has been
02:15:54
down here in about a week
02:15:56
and if some intrepid band
02:16:01
were to go up and see what's going on in
02:16:03
that silver mine
02:16:05
you might find an interesting tale of
02:16:07
claim jumpers
02:16:10
silver i'd like to get my hands on some
02:16:13
silver yeah
02:16:14
well uh i i'm trying to remember out of
02:16:18
character if he's the one who had who
02:16:19
owns the livery
02:16:21
he is would would we be able to uh get
02:16:24
some assistance with getting some horses
02:16:26
to get up in that area
02:16:28
because that would be a hell of a trek
02:16:30
on foot
02:16:32
of course of course yeah i mean if you
02:16:35
uh you know i i happen to be an investor in
02:16:37
that silver mine
02:16:38
so you'd be doing me a solid of course
02:16:43
so you you you have
02:16:46
a silver mine that you have not
02:16:49
heard from for a week
02:16:53
i have i own a portion of a silver mine
02:16:58
i'm having flashbacks to uh dragon
02:17:00
dragon device fire peaks
02:17:04
[Music]
02:17:05
hold on i need to get my uh firearms
02:17:08
silver [Laughter]
02:17:13
silver bullets silver bullets for
02:17:14
everyone
02:17:18
maybe blacksmith could help us with that
02:17:20
or we could use this forged
02:17:21
and some silver bullets that's why you
02:17:22
need a shotgun because you just put the
02:17:24
little bits of
02:17:25
silver in there gravel
02:17:29
no but but no it's is if we go up to the
02:17:32
silver mine that would be very good and
02:17:34
would there be any kind of reward
02:17:36
for uh finding out
02:17:41
well i mean i'm i'm putting you up in my
02:17:44
hotel
02:17:46
oh all of us i was thinking
02:17:49
no no i'm of course any friend of abe's
02:17:52
is a friend of mine oh i'm very much
02:17:56
obliged to you
02:17:57
of course of course good i may even ride
02:18:00
along this sounds adventurous
02:18:06
i hope not congratulations
02:18:10
c.s martel has won
02:18:14
the nord games luck deck so do us a
02:18:16
favor and whisper your information
02:18:18
to uh the quests and chaos account and
02:18:21
we will
02:18:22
send that out to you uh i think we
02:18:24
forgot all the disclaimers so hopefully
02:18:26
you live in the u.s
02:18:28
if not uh you'll be getting a pdf from
02:18:30
that day there you go
02:18:32
there you go so then give us your email
02:18:34
address
02:18:36
ah figure that out in messages that's
02:18:38
right
02:18:39
that's right okay uh so
02:18:42
um you you said you were having your
02:18:45
things sent over where where are your
02:18:46
things i can i can send uh
02:18:49
i can send reggie to find them uh we
02:18:51
dropped them
02:18:52
i dropped my things over at the original
02:18:55
correct
02:18:58
abe i was unaware that you were the
02:19:01
owner of this fine establishment i mean
02:19:04
i understand that
02:19:05
uh you know coming from chicago when a
02:19:07
gentleman says you shouldn't stay there
02:19:10
i kind of get the whiff of what he's
02:19:11
selling that's the next metaphor
02:19:16
i i see well well you know um i've met
02:19:19
you seen you and you are here and we are
02:19:21
old friends from harvard
02:19:23
i will absolutely 100 percent stay here
02:19:26
uh
02:19:27
cs martel is in canada and he says
02:19:29
please pick another
02:19:30
with the with a true canadian spirit he
02:19:33
says please pick it up
02:19:34
wait wait wait wait wait we're in canada
02:19:35
cause because we can do everything
02:19:37
anywhere but quebec
02:19:38
is it yes montreal is in quebec it's
02:19:42
montreal quebec canada
02:19:43
yeah oh well
02:19:46
it's montreal and quebec you just
02:19:48
started a war
02:19:51
i did i didn't see whether they were in
02:19:52
montreal i just i just heard canada
02:19:55
yeah as long as you're not in quebec
02:19:57
because um we hate quebecois
02:20:00
no that's it's because it's some weird
02:20:02
mail thing
02:20:03
uh it's a weird giveaway law thing is
02:20:06
what it really is
02:20:09
yes so because what we give away isn't
02:20:11
in french
02:20:12
so we can't i'm here in ontario
02:20:16
there you go um
02:20:20
i'm hearing ontario just somewhere you
02:20:22
know what
02:20:23
i heard about ontario
02:20:28
uh all right well congratulations to cs
02:20:31
martel oh but he still wants to give it
02:20:33
away oh i'll give this thing away all right
02:20:36
i'm crying i'm trying
02:20:38
now i'm hoping that cs martel has the
02:20:40
good sense to not play d
02:20:42
that is my it is a 5v system so it works
02:20:45
for
02:20:46
carbon 2185 or
02:20:49
uh star wars fighting
02:20:53
cs martel your name is still in the
02:20:55
annals of winners congratulations
02:20:59
uh so yeah he'll send uh
02:21:02
reginald uh reggie the little bell boy
02:21:05
to go get your stuff if you want i'll
02:21:08
i'll i i dropped my rucksack in the
02:21:10
chest and locked it so i'll probably
02:21:12
go back over there and unlock the fast
02:21:14
and grab it yeah i'll go back
02:21:16
all right so um i'm guessing abe is not
02:21:20
going
02:21:21
back up until now now if i'm getting
02:21:27
so here's here's so here's an
02:21:28
interesting thing it's uh we've pre-paid
02:21:31
i doubt we can get our money back
02:21:34
it's a backup hotel
02:21:38
you know the backup hotel thing works a
02:21:40
lot less when there are two hotels in
02:21:41
town you know what though
02:21:43
10 is fine for a backup hotel i'm okay
02:21:46
with this
02:21:47
there you go all right uh
02:21:50
okay so uh uh you will you
02:21:54
you know you guys go back and there's
02:21:55
some uh you know the guy at the front
02:21:57
desk especially jonesy he looks a little
02:22:00
hurt when you uh when you uh uh
02:22:03
uh yeah there are no refunds you know
02:22:05
that are if anybody asks but um
02:22:08
i'm not asking do i do i don't even have
02:22:10
to tell him that i'm leaving i can just
02:22:12
i can get my stuff
02:22:14
i do stop by for the breakfast
02:22:17
and the bath right
02:22:20
hey um
02:22:24
you can probably have better baths at uh
02:22:26
that's true that's true
02:22:28
all right um uh he was born at night but
02:22:31
he wasn't born last night so when you
02:22:32
walk down with all your stuff and you're
02:22:34
like oh we're not leaving
02:22:40
so i i do want to go and and let him
02:22:42
know that
02:22:44
we will be back to use these rooms
02:22:47
probably we will be back
02:22:50
so jared didn't need to go back to get
02:22:53
anything because he kept his shotgun
02:22:54
with him
02:22:55
but he will be showing up tomorrow
02:22:57
morning for breakfast
02:22:58
all right so so as as jackson elias he's
02:23:02
like just we will be back
02:23:03
no no you're elias jackson elias jackson
02:23:08
so he flips it you know yeah all right
02:23:11
uh well sir style
02:23:14
well sir uh we we look forward to seeing
02:23:17
you uh
02:23:19
uh uh be safe
02:23:24
yeah you too all right
02:23:27
uh so and you you're doing like as you
02:23:30
walk back to the hotel with your bags
02:23:32
uh sven he says well so
02:23:35
you've had a change of mind about the
02:23:37
accommodations
02:23:41
we're staying in both places
02:23:44
oh that's a diplomatic solution that has
02:23:47
not been tried yet
02:23:51
we we we we spent money over at the
02:23:54
original
02:23:55
he ought to be happy about that and
02:23:58
you're not spending money here
02:24:03
[Music]
02:24:04
good day sir cheers
02:24:11
friends of kansas city huh
02:24:15
boston
02:24:18
[Laughter]
02:24:20
uh yeah so you guys you guys head in uh
02:24:23
and
02:24:24
uh i just grin at the at the elbow and
02:24:26
just scream at him like yeah
02:24:30
uh and you have a lovely uh this is a
02:24:34
this is a nicer hotel so your rooms are
02:24:37
nicer they're a little bigger the beds
02:24:39
are softer uh you get
02:24:42
two baths a week ooh looking out the
02:24:46
window
02:24:47
um do i see anybody like relaying
02:24:50
information about
02:24:52
us moving here or anything like that no
02:24:54
make a luck roll
02:24:58
oh i made it that's a 3200
02:25:01
so you uh about
02:25:05
you happen to look out the window about
02:25:08
nine o'clock
02:25:09
and you see sven like leaving
02:25:15
so he's he's just been standing in front
02:25:17
of that hotel for
02:25:18
a good long time
02:25:21
gotcha um
02:25:25
um i'm sorry
02:25:28
i'm sorry if we missed it but did we
02:25:30
find out if
02:25:31
the the the pinkerton folks stayed here
02:25:34
at any point
02:25:36
uh you have not asked yet okay then i
02:25:39
will i've i will ask at the front desk once
02:25:41
we're established as
02:25:43
friends of the owner as friends of penta
02:25:46
baker yeah when you like when you come back
02:25:48
pin a baker like uh
02:25:50
uh penny pennybaker like uh um the the
02:25:53
the the guy at the front desk pitabaker
02:25:54
is now move he's
02:25:55
off doing something but the they said oh
02:25:58
mr pinabaker told me to take care of
02:25:59
everything you need so whatever you need
02:26:01
i got no problems well much obliged for
02:26:04
that no and i'll give the names of the three
02:26:06
agents and say
02:26:08
uh friends of oz were here around july
02:26:11
october
02:26:12
and just wanted to check and see if
02:26:13
they'd stayed here at any point
02:26:16
uh no one by that name stayed here no
02:26:20
stay here thank you very much just one
02:26:22
chance
02:26:23
um and again do let me know if you need
02:26:25
anything
02:26:28
i i certainly will thank you
02:26:32
uh in the lobby of the hotel there's a
02:26:34
great big fireplace and a fire burning
02:26:37
and king is just curled up in front of
02:26:39
the fire
02:26:41
so i'd like to gather everyone up and
02:26:43
kind of have a quick
02:26:45
discussion so brandy by the fire then
02:26:48
randy by the fire sounds like an
02:26:50
excellent way to spend the evening
02:26:54
like king barely looks up as you come by
02:26:57
and just sort of holds his head up long
02:26:59
enough for someone to scratch it and
02:27:00
then plops it back down
02:27:02
yeah definitely squish the puppy behind
02:27:05
his ears i would have i would have
02:27:06
nicked a piece of meat from somewhere to
02:27:07
feed him
02:27:10
so um we
02:27:14
we've learned that our compatriots have
02:27:16
been here
02:27:18
in july in july and the last time that
02:27:22
our compatriots
02:27:24
checked in was in october but
02:27:27
that's a there's an awful long way
02:27:28
between july and october
02:27:31
so that would have been they they
02:27:34
checked in through the uh
02:27:35
the telegram so if we were to
02:27:39
if we were to ask someone where they
02:27:41
were last seen we'd want to go to that
02:27:43
office
02:27:45
that seems likely assuming they keep
02:27:47
records of who sends telegrams out of
02:27:49
the city
02:27:50
or if they just remember them i mean if
02:27:52
if they came in
02:27:56
harried or uh out of sorts for any
02:28:00
reason due to something that we don't
02:28:01
know
02:28:02
that that might have made the encounters
02:28:04
stand out
02:28:06
and if it wasn't even wrong
02:28:09
they were here for they were here for a
02:28:11
long time
02:28:12
from july to october at least looking
02:28:15
for this fella
02:28:16
so the check-in didn't have a
02:28:18
geographical location
02:28:20
but it was sent from this telegraph
02:28:24
uh but it it you know they could have
02:28:27
like
02:28:28
sent it here by runner or something like
02:28:29
that but it was sent from the telegraph
02:28:31
office here in town yeah they could have
02:28:32
been staying out at a mining camp and
02:28:34
come back to town or something right
02:28:35
right
02:28:36
somewhere within a day's travel of here
02:28:38
probably
02:28:39
now that we've been here is there
02:28:41
anything in
02:28:42
that sort of the information that we
02:28:45
have that stands out that's different than
02:28:47
just
02:28:48
they came up here and haven't seen them
02:28:54
not really i mean the the so the time
02:28:56
frame is really kind of the weirdest
02:28:58
is the biggest thing like where were
02:28:59
they from
02:29:01
july to october right
02:29:05
we might want to check the the the assay
02:29:07
office and see if they bought a
02:29:09
claim anywhere we do
02:29:13
we are we are been asked to go up to the
02:29:16
uh silver mine do you think they might have
02:29:18
gone up there
02:29:19
i mean it's entirely possible so again
02:29:22
the silver mine has only been a problem
02:29:24
for about a week
02:29:26
yeah but it's still it's okay
02:29:30
we don't want to foster any ill will in
02:29:33
this town
02:29:36
and sorry but university buddies only go
02:29:39
so far
02:29:42
but look how far it didn't go to harvard
02:29:47
no i did not go to harvard but i imagine
02:29:50
that connection can only go so far
02:29:52
if there's no results given and i put my
02:29:54
feet up on the table and be like oh but
02:29:56
it's a nice distance
02:29:58
i'm not i'm not opposed to checking out
02:30:00
this silver mine um
02:30:02
i mean it seemed a little it seems
02:30:04
dangerous
02:30:06
but uh it'd be interesting to see what's
02:30:08
going on up there
02:30:12
we are getting involved in local
02:30:14
politics aren't we
02:30:16
[ __ ]
02:30:20
i think we got involved in local
02:30:21
politics the second we decided to stay
02:30:23
at a hotel
02:30:26
second we stepped foot in this town i
02:30:29
don't know you've
02:30:30
you know no one's tried the let's stay
02:30:31
at both
02:30:33
this this right here this is the problem
02:30:36
with towns without law enforcement
02:30:38
without real law enforcement
02:30:41
how loud is that said not very i'm
02:30:44
keeping it quiet
02:30:46
so the lobby is is very empty there's
02:30:49
not a whole lot going on here
02:30:50
well and and we if we want to see statin
02:30:54
i made sure that i
02:30:57
gave the impression i'd like to work
02:30:59
here so
02:31:01
if we need to do that i have that
02:31:04
well what do we want to know from statin
02:31:08
why would we be seeking uh uh an
02:31:10
audience with him for lack of a better
02:31:12
term
02:31:14
yeah but he knows everything about this
02:31:17
town he might have heard
02:31:19
about people who are missing or gone or
02:31:21
different or something
02:31:23
or if that's beneath them unless they
02:31:25
did something to stand out and if that's
02:31:28
the case that might not work in our
02:31:30
favor to talk
02:31:31
to him about that because then we'll
02:31:33
link to people who stand out
02:31:38
any information is good information at
02:31:39
this point
02:31:41
the more we have the better that's true
02:31:45
but if we are given information in
02:31:48
return
02:31:49
it might not be so good
02:31:52
oh but maybe if that uh elias comes with
02:31:55
me
02:31:56
we talk and he gets tries to get a a
02:32:00
exclusive yeah interview with yeah
02:32:05
we can double team him
02:32:09
i don't think that's the phrase you want
02:32:10
to use friend next episode title
02:32:13
[Laughter]
02:32:17
and that's not beaver fever
02:32:24
oh
02:32:28
so i mean you you know that stratton
02:32:30
usually is almost always holding court
02:32:32
at the elkhorn
02:32:33
but during business hours does that mean
02:32:35
from nine to five
02:32:36
i mean who knows what business is ours
02:32:38
ours for a saloon owner
02:32:40
that's fair well i mean i'm not opposed
02:32:43
to going and checking out the
02:32:45
the the nightlife situation out here
02:32:48
yeah i think you get a better
02:32:49
sense for a boom town by seeing what it
02:32:53
looks like after the sun goes down
02:32:55
[Music]
02:32:57
boom boom so i mean just looking when
02:33:00
when like elias was looking out his
02:33:02
window like this town is alive at night
02:33:05
there are you know there are lanterns
02:33:07
all over
02:33:08
there are people in the streets there is
02:33:11
drinking going on it is loud
02:33:14
there is partying and carousing
02:33:18
all right i think that i think we need
02:33:20
to go and check it out and
02:33:21
get some get uh
02:33:26
have a dream come on you can say get
02:33:28
some companionship is that what you're
02:33:29
trying to say
02:33:30
no get some information on
02:33:37
[Music]
02:33:39
and another great disguise roll
02:33:46
oh maybe spin the ted luck next time
02:33:52
that's that's good though i like that
02:33:55
that's looking good
02:33:58
yeah he comes down from his hotel room
02:33:59
looking almost
02:34:01
somewhat different
02:34:05
you can call yourself freddy now right
02:34:13
nice yes you can with with enough time
02:34:17
you know you you have the pulp trait
02:34:20
with enough time like you have now you
02:34:21
can make you don't need to roll you make
02:34:23
a good disguise
02:34:24
you're good in christ that's awesome
02:34:29
um so you guys are gonna head out and
02:34:31
check out the nightlife
02:34:33
uh you have all sorts of choices in
02:34:35
terms of
02:34:36
seedier saloons uh the elkhorn which is
02:34:40
where stratton is uh there are brothels of
02:34:43
plenty
02:34:45
i think i think the elkhorn is uh is the
02:34:47
place to be
02:34:48
let's start why don't we see if we can't
02:34:50
find the stratton fella
02:34:52
because we've had we've held court with
02:34:53
one of the
02:34:55
of the powers that be in this town why
02:34:57
don't we see if we can't find the other
02:35:00
yeah he's good
02:35:04
i'm getting some distance from this
02:35:08
not i i completely understand i hate
02:35:10
politics and i don't like playing
02:35:12
politics but here we are
02:35:15
but i like drinking drinking is nice
02:35:19
but uh politics
02:35:22
yeah enough drink politics
02:35:27
all right so you guys head out and uh
02:35:30
you are walking down a pat walking down
02:35:33
the path sort of taking the main route to the
02:35:35
elkhorn and standing outside of one of
02:35:38
the brothels uh let's see it is oh it's spent again
02:35:41
this is his name i swear to god i'm
02:35:43
gonna punch him
02:35:44
uh no this is the the the stillwater
02:35:47
ladies club
02:35:49
which is a lovely tent uh
02:35:52
with a um there is a
02:35:56
a past her prime uh woman of the night
02:36:00
outside uh who is just
02:36:03
balefully looking at a man wearing
02:36:06
a minister's caller who is just
02:36:09
berating anyone who comes near this
02:36:12
place
02:36:13
and this den of iniquity and uh you know
02:36:16
this is a town of sinners
02:36:19
and if we do not repent
02:36:23
our ways this town will be flooded again
02:36:28
i walk past and i just say lover
02:36:30
squirrel perhaps
02:36:36
father uh he is like
02:36:39
raving oh does he is he up for a
02:36:43
conversation at all
02:36:45
uh sure yeah you can he'll like
02:36:49
yeah what is it my son i i'm sorry you
02:36:52
said um
02:36:53
that this town would be flooded again is
02:36:55
there is there a
02:36:57
danger of it is spring is it in
02:37:01
yes your immortal
02:37:04
soul right right but
02:37:08
water flooding in from the mountains is
02:37:09
that is that a thing that happens
02:37:11
[Music]
02:37:13
why do you think noah built an ark son
02:37:18
you wanted to start a zoo
02:37:22
the world he was told by our lord and
02:37:25
savior
02:37:26
that the world was going to be cleansed
02:37:30
and i know that if unless
02:37:34
we repent our ways this world will be
02:37:36
cleansed again
02:37:39
have you seen any anything uh
02:37:42
that the devil may have caused around
02:37:44
here any sort of uh disturbance
02:37:47
he looks at the old prostitute right
02:37:49
every day
02:37:52
outs outside of town it's
02:37:57
just just the prostitutes
02:38:00
there's plenty of sin here in stillwater
02:38:03
i don't need to go seeking further right i hope
02:38:07
sir and with a mustache like that i can
02:38:11
only assume you are a godly man
02:38:13
i hope that i will see you in church on
02:38:15
sunday
02:38:19
if i'm still alive i'll be in church
02:38:25
i've i've never had that answer to that
02:38:30
are you well sir no
02:38:34
no why not well let me pray let us pray
02:38:39
come kneel with me
02:38:43
oh okay this yep this happened okay
02:38:46
all right so you two are kneeling in the
02:38:48
middle of the road he
02:38:49
clasps your hands and he is praying
02:38:54
that you will be healed that your
02:38:55
afflictions will be lifted
02:38:59
yeah i know i need to stay a writer
02:39:05
that's how i make a living that's how i
02:39:07
make these seven dollars
02:39:10
uh and and he will he will go on
02:39:14
for a good two minutes of just you know
02:39:17
praying for your health and for you know
02:39:21
the lord's protection
02:39:24
after eventually oh no oh we lost tiana
02:39:29
oh wasn't me oh wow
02:39:32
uh all right well we will uh as soon as
02:39:35
she came back the joys of the internet uh she'll
02:39:37
be jumping back in
02:39:38
uh but so yeah he is like laying on the
02:39:41
he's like
02:39:42
kneeling in the muck with you praying
02:39:46
um and as soon as you know and then he
02:39:49
stands back up and he
02:39:50
he like says now if you'll excuse me i
02:39:52
have four more of these places that i
02:39:54
have to go yell at
02:39:59
all right now she's back after he leaves
02:40:02
i just
02:40:03
i apologize to um i apologize to the
02:40:06
ma'am i am sorry some gentlemen just do
02:40:08
not know how to treat a lady
02:40:09
and you know what i mean i put my foot
02:40:10
up on like the step and i'm just like
02:40:15
no for 10 cents i'll show you how to
02:40:18
treat a lady
02:40:20
i'm sure you can ma'am you have a great
02:40:22
day thank you
02:40:26
and i like kiss her hand and walk away
02:40:29
he smells clean
02:40:37
tell him you come back you tell him
02:40:39
you're looking for mod
02:40:43
have a good evening mod and there's mod
02:40:47
uh so yeah you continue down and you you
02:40:50
are now in front of the elkhorn
02:40:53
uh it is the second largest building
02:40:56
in stillwater the uh the hotel you're
02:41:00
staying at is the largest
02:41:03
and uh uh
02:41:06
it is a bustling saloon although it
02:41:09
seems
02:41:10
uh everybody can make a spot hidden roll
02:41:16
this is just a cardboard cutout it's not
02:41:19
a real building guys
02:41:23
there are three amigos in it
02:41:26
oops sorry anybody who makes it sees
02:41:29
that um there are
02:41:30
clearly at least uh four
02:41:33
thugs that are you know bouncing this
02:41:36
place
02:41:37
just watching and kind of walking around
02:41:40
um they they don't have guns they have ax
02:41:43
handles that they're just sort of like
02:41:45
you know tapping in their hands as they
02:41:48
as they walk around
02:41:50
um and people definitely
02:41:53
are uh uh did anybody make a hard
02:41:56
success
02:42:00
okay uh yeah that p there you don't see
02:42:03
a lot of no nobody's acting up in this tavern
02:42:05
that's what you get
02:42:06
um and uh
02:42:11
there it's it's bustling there are all
02:42:13
sorts of people in here
02:42:15
yeah it's time to drink um do do
02:42:18
uh do we want to take that back and have
02:42:20
anybody uh spend inspiration
02:42:22
you could use an inspiration to get off
02:42:24
try and get a hard success all right
02:42:25
sorry what was the role for i was trying
02:42:27
to get everything back after my computer
02:42:29
just locked up and shut down
02:42:31
it was a spot hidden role okay i'll
02:42:36
uh yeah it was a regular success
02:42:40
you could spend luck i have 70 in it
02:42:44
so it's up to you guys
02:42:47
or i mean inspiration you've got right
02:42:49
let's do it i
02:42:50
have 80 in it dude
02:42:55
please oh i rolled in 86 the first time
02:42:58
[Laughter]
02:43:00
all right this is this would be a hell
02:43:01
of a
02:43:04
fifty two fifty two i'm not gonna spend
02:43:06
the luck all right
02:43:08
uh do you want to inspire tia uh uh
02:43:10
susannah she's gotta
02:43:11
have one yeah yeah we've got plenty of
02:43:13
it all right roll that again
02:43:15
suzanne all right
02:43:19
noise hard success all right uh
02:43:22
so um uh the two things that you are
02:43:25
gonna get
02:43:26
are that um every like people are very
02:43:29
aware that this is
02:43:31
stratton's home base and that tends to
02:43:33
police this place pretty well
02:43:35
but they're still the four thugs um and
02:43:37
you also
02:43:38
see a a back room that's essentially
02:43:42
curtained off
02:43:43
that it's pretty clear that that's where
02:43:44
stratton is
02:43:46
okay so i'll glance over and nod at that
02:43:49
and say
02:43:50
i think that's where the fella we're
02:43:52
looking for is now the question is how
02:43:54
direct do we want to be about this
02:43:59
i reckon any outsiders coming in are
02:44:01
going to get some attention from him i
02:44:03
think we get some drinks and find a
02:44:05
table and
02:44:07
enjoy the atmosphere i could i could ask
02:44:09
if we could see him because i want to
02:44:11
have a job
02:44:12
he might want to do that
02:44:17
we'll take the take the wii out of that
02:44:22
but okay i mean if you if you want to
02:44:23
make contact with them
02:44:25
uh that's fine but i was going to to see
02:44:28
if elias wanted to get a
02:44:30
a scoop as it were is that what it is
02:44:33
that's the word scoop yes indeed that's
02:44:36
that's the word
02:44:37
uh yeah you guys get uh uh you get
02:44:41
drinks and you settle down and and jonesy
02:44:43
you're gonna ask the bartender
02:44:45
or yeah okay uh how can i help you ma'am
02:44:50
i heard mr stratton was looking for a a
02:44:54
blacksmith
02:44:55
and uh i would like to be able to talk
02:44:57
to him
02:45:01
uh well well i see uh i will let mr mr
02:45:04
stratton know
02:45:05
uh and he he will like uh he'll hand you
02:45:08
your drink and then he'll go and he'll
02:45:09
like
02:45:11
motion over one of the thugs and he'll
02:45:12
like whisper in his ear and the thug
02:45:14
goes back to that curtained off
02:45:15
uh back room
02:45:19
and about 10 minutes later uh
02:45:22
the thug comes out and you know you guys
02:45:25
are watching him
02:45:26
surreptitiously and he looks at the
02:45:29
bartender and the bartender points to
02:45:30
jonesy
02:45:32
uh and the thug will come up and he'll
02:45:35
say oh ma'am uh mr stratton would like to
02:45:38
have a word with you
02:45:42
very good i have uh
02:45:47
since i do not go and see men behind
02:45:50
curtains alone can i bring one of my
02:45:52
companions with me
02:46:01
i'll be going with her
02:46:05
uh mr stratton said he wants to talk to
02:46:07
you
02:46:08
yeah and just come with me
02:46:12
and you got to bring your husband let's
02:46:13
go
02:46:16
oh no no no we're we're uh like uh
02:46:19
uh we're traveling companions we
02:46:21
traveled up here together
02:46:24
he is one of he is another strong man
02:46:27
yes right
02:46:28
yeah i assist so small
02:46:32
yeah the guy like looks over luckily
02:46:34
this guy is not paid to think
02:46:36
no he's not i assist and i
02:46:39
keep the forwards running
02:46:43
i mean this mustache keeps the board
02:46:45
running
02:46:48
we will go and then i just i just grab
02:46:50
elias and we go
02:46:53
um and he like he like rushes after you
02:46:55
and he's like wait wait wait wait
02:46:56
and he'll he'll get to the curtain
02:46:58
before you and he'll be like uh
02:47:00
here mr stratton um there's more than
02:47:02
one of them
02:47:04
but here that is and he like opens the
02:47:07
curtain and um you both come into
02:47:11
a nice it's a very nice room uh and
02:47:14
there's at the back of it there is
02:47:16
an a big old oak desk and sitting behind
02:47:19
it is a barrel-chested black-haired
02:47:23
you know uh scruffy
02:47:26
uh man wearing um a
02:47:29
uh uh wearing a
02:47:32
a beaten-up old trail jacket uh
02:47:36
and uh and and long underwear
02:47:39
underneath the trail jacket uh and
02:47:42
swin sven is like leaning against a wall
02:47:46
and when you both come in he's smart he
02:47:48
like smirks
02:47:49
um well actually let's see does he
02:47:51
recognize yeah he looks
02:47:53
he just looks at both of you and like he
02:47:55
looks at the mustache and he goes
02:47:58
um but he's like you know he's he's away
02:48:02
and
02:48:03
uh stratton uh looks up and he says
02:48:07
you're the blacksmith yeah i'm
02:48:10
blacksmithing he's my helper
02:48:14
that's a blacksmith this is a blacksmith
02:48:18
that is a helper yeah
02:48:21
the hell's he help you with paper
02:48:25
some i need to make make sure people pay
02:48:27
me and they have
02:48:28
writing down and and so yeah i need
02:48:30
helper
02:48:31
though he's your accountant accounting
02:48:35
dc word thank you
02:48:37
yeah thank you it's the word thank you
02:48:40
bring your accountant in here look
02:48:43
this is some sort of weird if you think
02:48:45
you're going to get any sort of contract
02:48:47
out of me
02:48:49
why not i contract you contract me to
02:48:52
to to make your your your blacksmithing
02:48:55
your your fairy or your
02:48:58
all that i do all this the monkey
02:49:00
doesn't tell the ring master to dance
02:49:04
i'm i i you're gonna work for me you son
02:49:07
of a [ __ ]
02:49:10
what did you call me
02:49:14
are we gonna have a problem here i don't
02:49:16
know are we are you calling me something
02:49:19
if you if you're gonna bring an
02:49:21
accountant in here trying to work with
02:49:23
me
02:49:24
if one of them goddamn contracts
02:49:30
i'm just gonna i'm just gonna uh i'll be
02:49:32
outside
02:49:34
no no no no no you stay you stay
02:49:38
is this is part of what we do yes we
02:49:41
i i don't do contracts by the way
02:49:46
he helps me he keeps notes he i know
02:49:49
who's
02:49:50
car and who's who's who's i'm working on
02:49:53
with the
02:49:54
shoes and everything he's one of us
02:49:57
i i allow uh her to go 50 faster
02:50:01
in the blacksmithing duties because i
02:50:03
take care of all of the other paperwork
02:50:05
it is very efficient uh and he makes
02:50:07
sure i get my
02:50:09
my call he makes sure i get everything
02:50:12
new hammers he makes sure i get everything i need i
02:50:15
requisition all of that
02:50:17
requisition that's the word see i keep
02:50:19
him for words too i have to pay
02:50:22
both of you i pay him you pay me yeah
02:50:27
i heard there was a guy in town who is
02:50:29
already doing blacksmithing but
02:50:32
but uh i also heard that you need
02:50:35
somebody to do for you
02:50:37
are you willing i mean what i want
02:50:40
is i want to put noble out of business
02:50:42
because goddamn
02:50:44
penny banker is the one who's running
02:50:47
behind him
02:50:52
so at that point sven says
02:50:56
uh mr stratton you should ask them what
02:50:58
hotel they're staying at
02:51:03
you know i hate games god damn it
02:51:06
nielsen
02:51:08
all right what hotel you best not be
02:51:11
staying at the lone pine
02:51:13
why not
02:51:20
i'm gonna say something once and only
02:51:23
once
02:51:24
yeah if i ask a question
02:51:28
of anyone in this town
02:51:31
it does not get answered with a question
02:51:35
we have five rooms at the original
02:51:40
so you're staying at the original it's
02:51:44
where we got some rooms
02:51:47
well all right
02:51:52
shut the [ __ ] up swim
02:51:57
now look you work for me
02:52:05
that means you do what i say
02:52:09
[Music]
02:52:12
i do what you say
02:52:15
so are you trying you think you can
02:52:17
teach me to do blacksmithing
02:52:26
i think i tell you what to do
02:52:36
i have to think because i know
02:52:40
blacksmithing
02:52:43
do you have any questions for this man
02:52:44
that we can uh
02:52:47
have answered
02:52:50
i don't know if he has any answers
02:52:54
okay all right and i get all the answers
02:52:56
i run this goddamn town
02:52:58
i get up and i walk out wait
02:53:03
my goddamn blacksmith just left
02:53:06
so i i i stay behind so jones elise
02:53:11
um i i imagine we have a description of
02:53:14
this old civil war
02:53:15
person right uh not only not a great one
02:53:19
but yes
02:53:20
okay a little bit so so i i then just be
02:53:23
like
02:53:26
i write on the side i'm following this
02:53:28
story
02:53:30
there's a guy that i think came through
02:53:32
here and i describe
02:53:34
um and and also i i
02:53:38
seem to insinuate that maybe i'm
02:53:40
grifting
02:53:41
jonesy a little bit as a way to like get
02:53:44
into places
02:53:45
[Music]
02:53:47
um i just want to see if he's guy's name
02:53:50
was nolan wilson would he be going by
02:53:53
that name though
02:53:55
no almost assuredly not so then i do the
02:53:57
description
02:53:59
okay you
02:54:03
why and i said he may be going under a
02:54:05
different name
02:54:06
and he's a confederate war criminal
02:54:10
that's right
02:54:14
and he's around here that's what
02:54:17
it's what i've been led to believe it's
02:54:19
what i've dug up in my
02:54:21
journalism research
02:54:25
your journalism research yeah i'm not an
02:54:28
accountant
02:54:29
although an account can certainly
02:54:31
improve your business by 50 percent
02:54:36
i'm not a numbers guy i go by my gut
02:54:43
say wait a minute
02:54:47
you wouldn't be a pinkerton agent would
