in the Apple Vision Pro this is a00:00:16
hands-on experience and I don't you know00:00:18
we weren't able to shoot footage from00:00:19
inside our experience but I just wanted00:00:21
to tell you about it because not only00:00:22
did they show me spatial video I also00:00:24
got to play around with some new00:00:25
mechanics that are part of vision OS now00:00:27
if you don't know already iOS 177 .2 the00:00:30
developer beta is out and that beta00:00:32
enables you at home if you want to play00:00:34
with it and you have access to it to00:00:36
unlock spatial video recordings which00:00:38
means basically you can record spatial00:00:40
video on your cameras right now and then00:00:41
in the future you'll be able to view it00:00:43
on the Apple Vision Pro now what this00:00:45
does is it uses the wide camera and then00:00:48
the ultra wide camera so when you turn00:00:49
your uh phone horizontally you'll see00:00:51
those two aligned and that those two00:00:53
recordings are able to give you that00:00:54
perspective and record spatial video it00:00:56
takes the ultra wide camera res crops it00:00:59
adjust it for color to match exactly00:01:01
what is being shot by the wide camera00:01:03
and then you have kind of like your two00:01:04
eyeballs left and right that is enable00:01:06
to capture those two video feeds at the00:01:09
same time and then create a spatial00:01:11
video now this records at 1080p 3000:01:14
frames per second it creates its own hvc00:01:16
file that will live on your phone and00:01:19
people are wondering how big is that00:01:20
file well roughly for every minute it's00:01:23
going to be 130 Megs per minute of video00:01:26
but what I want to talk about is the00:01:28
experience right first of all I got to00:01:30
play with Vision Pro again I got to get00:01:31
back into the headset and there were00:01:33
specifically three new things that suck00:01:35
out in my mind the first thing was when00:01:37
you initially put on the headset and you00:01:38
do the eye calibration test in the00:01:40
previous first experience you know you00:01:42
looked at the six dots in a row and to00:01:43
calibrate your eyes but this time they00:01:45
do it a little different you actually do00:01:47
the eyeball test where you look at six00:01:48
dots you'll pinch your finger to confirm00:01:50
the six dots that you're looking at but00:01:52
it does it in a bright background and a00:01:55
dark background and what it's doing is00:01:57
it's calibrating so that your eyes can00:01:59
really interact with the Apple Vision00:02:01
Pro at the optimal experience depending00:02:02
on what type of content and what the00:02:05
lighting is in there whether you know00:02:06
you're in environments where it's dark00:02:08
or whether you're looking at a video00:02:09
that's really bright they want to the00:02:11
the idea here is to calibrate this as00:02:13
best as possible for different types of00:02:15
lighting conditions now the second thing00:02:17
that I saw here which was new is we got00:02:19
to play in the photo gallery or the00:02:20
photos app and now if you look in the00:02:22
bottom right hand corner you'll see like00:02:24
a little curved line there and that00:02:26
allows you to actually resize the the00:02:29
screen or the display that you're00:02:30
looking at for those photos so I just00:02:32
like take my finger I pinch I hold and00:02:34
that window becomes bigger that was00:02:37
present in this build and a new kind of00:02:39
mechanical all It's just sometimes see00:02:41
media really big up in our face all00:02:43
right you still have the bar on the00:02:45
bottom that allows you to move and pull00:02:47
that window back and forth but now this00:02:50
right hand corner has a little curved00:02:51
line on the edge of that you know00:02:53

now the other cool function that they00:02:56
showed us new gesture let's call it is I00:02:59
could take my two fingers and then you00:03:01
know pinch to zoom so you spread your00:03:04
fingers across in a photo and you zoom00:03:06
into it you know similar to multi-touch00:03:08
on your screen but now you're using your00:03:09
two fingers in the air and then you're00:03:10
pulling it across so this allowed me to00:03:12
zoom into 48 megapixel photos to really00:03:15
see that detail and you know on the00:03:18
Vision Pro it looked great you're00:03:20
looking at the best Fidelity video that00:03:21
we've seen on a headset so far um so00:03:24
that was nice but two new mechanics that00:03:25
we got to play around with now let's00:03:27
talk about spatial video right I was00:03:28
taken to a a situation where I had the00:03:32
15 Pro uh I got to record like some cool00:03:35
a sushi experience and I got to go up00:03:37
close with the sushi chef uh I took some00:03:40
shots of like a container of Chopsticks00:03:42
just to see the depth and I forgot how00:03:45
detailed and how much depth the spatial00:03:47
videos actually capture now remember the00:03:49
early demos that you saw spatial video00:03:51
was more like a square uh proportion and00:03:54
it was shot directly from the Vision Pro00:03:56
well now with the iPhone you're going to00:03:57
get a landscape video view when you00:03:59
actually watch spal video the way they00:04:00
present it it's it's faded out on the00:04:03
edges so you don't see a hard Edge line00:04:04
when you're watching this video they00:04:05
want it to feel immersive you can even00:04:07
dial up and turn on an environment while00:04:09
you're watching spatial video but again00:04:11
the depth when I say there's a container00:04:12
of like 25 Chopsticks in there I could00:04:15
literally see the detail and the depth00:04:16
of every Chopstick again this is00:04:17
recording 1080p 30 frames per second if00:04:20
you're following really fast moving00:04:22
objects you can see them the depth is00:04:24
still there but because the frame rate00:04:26
and you know this is 10 AP video and00:04:28
it's in 3D it does break down a little00:04:30
so you can make some like on still00:04:32
objects like sushi you can make some00:04:34
like I did some nice pans and I mean you00:04:36
could see the Flesh and the detail on00:04:38
that sushi but if I did like really fast00:04:40

comfortable figuring out what it excels00:04:47

maybe it feels like you capture two00:05:05
levels of depth here it feels like it00:05:06

point of spatial video is more about00:05:12
capturing these memories and when I saw00:05:13
some of the things they were showing us00:05:15
a family making lemonade have people00:05:17
around a campfire in a fireplace it I I00:05:21
think spatial videos is kind of going to00:05:22
kind of mess with us emotionally because00:05:24
I could think about if you capture these00:05:25
amazing memories and then you watch them00:05:27
in 3D without immersive audio and it00:05:31
takes you back in a time maybe it's a00:05:32
loved one someone who's here someone00:05:34
who's passed on that could be really00:05:36
powerful so um just having those00:05:38
memories now being able to record00:05:39
spatial video with the new iOS 17.2 beta00:05:42
