00:00:00
what's up everybody hey Brian Tong here
00:00:02
I am outside of the Apple Visitor Center
00:00:04
because I was just inside Apple park
00:00:06
inside campus and I got a Hands-On look
00:00:09
at spatial video with the iPhone 15 Pro
00:00:12
and then I got a view that spatial video
00:00:15
in the Apple Vision Pro this is a
00:00:16
hands-on experience and I don't you know
00:00:18
we weren't able to shoot footage from
00:00:19
inside our experience but I just wanted
00:00:21
to tell you about it because not only
00:00:22
did they show me spatial video I also
00:00:24
got to play around with some new
00:00:25
mechanics that are part of vision OS now
00:00:27
if you don't know already iOS 177 .2 the
00:00:30
developer beta is out and that beta
00:00:32
enables you at home if you want to play
00:00:34
with it and you have access to it to
00:00:36
unlock spatial video recordings which
00:00:38
means basically you can record spatial
00:00:40
video on your cameras right now and then
00:00:41
in the future you'll be able to view it
00:00:43
on the Apple Vision Pro now what this
00:00:45
does is it uses the wide camera and then
00:00:48
the ultra wide camera so when you turn
00:00:49
your uh phone horizontally you'll see
00:00:51
those two aligned and that those two
00:00:53
recordings are able to give you that
00:00:54
perspective and record spatial video it
00:00:56
takes the ultra wide camera res crops it
00:00:59
adjust it for color to match exactly
00:01:01
what is being shot by the wide camera
00:01:03
and then you have kind of like your two
00:01:04
eyeballs left and right that is enable
00:01:06
to capture those two video feeds at the
00:01:09
same time and then create a spatial
00:01:11
video now this records at 1080p 30
00:01:14
frames per second it creates its own hvc
00:01:16
file that will live on your phone and
00:01:19
people are wondering how big is that
00:01:20
file well roughly for every minute it's
00:01:23
going to be 130 Megs per minute of video
00:01:26
but what I want to talk about is the
00:01:28
experience right first of all I got to
00:01:30
play with Vision Pro again I got to get
00:01:31
back into the headset and there were
00:01:33
specifically three new things that suck
00:01:35
out in my mind the first thing was when
00:01:37
you initially put on the headset and you
00:01:38
do the eye calibration test in the
00:01:40
previous first experience you know you
00:01:42
looked at the six dots in a row and to
00:01:43
calibrate your eyes but this time they
00:01:45
do it a little different you actually do
00:01:47
the eyeball test where you look at six
00:01:48
dots you'll pinch your finger to confirm
00:01:50
the six dots that you're looking at but
00:01:52
it does it in a bright background and a
00:01:55
dark background and what it's doing is
00:01:57
it's calibrating so that your eyes can
00:01:59
really interact with the Apple Vision
00:02:01
Pro at the optimal experience depending
00:02:02
on what type of content and what the
00:02:05
lighting is in there whether you know
00:02:06
you're in environments where it's dark
00:02:08
or whether you're looking at a video
00:02:09
that's really bright they want to the
00:02:11
the idea here is to calibrate this as
00:02:13
best as possible for different types of
00:02:15
lighting conditions now the second thing
00:02:17
that I saw here which was new is we got
00:02:19
to play in the photo gallery or the
00:02:20
photos app and now if you look in the
00:02:22
bottom right hand corner you'll see like
00:02:24
a little curved line there and that
00:02:26
allows you to actually resize the the
00:02:29
screen or the display that you're
00:02:30
looking at for those photos so I just
00:02:32
like take my finger I pinch I hold and
00:02:34
that window becomes bigger that was
00:02:37
present in this build and a new kind of
00:02:39
mechanical all It's just sometimes see
00:02:41
media really big up in our face all
00:02:43
right you still have the bar on the
00:02:45
bottom that allows you to move and pull
00:02:47
that window back and forth but now this
00:02:50
right hand corner has a little curved
00:02:51
line on the edge of that you know
00:02:53
rounded corner you can then resize that
00:02:55
now the other cool function that they
00:02:56
showed us new gesture let's call it is I
00:02:59
could take my two fingers and then you
00:03:01
know pinch to zoom so you spread your
00:03:04
fingers across in a photo and you zoom
00:03:06
into it you know similar to multi-touch
00:03:08
on your screen but now you're using your
00:03:09
two fingers in the air and then you're
00:03:10
pulling it across so this allowed me to
00:03:12
zoom into 48 megapixel photos to really
00:03:15
see that detail and you know on the
00:03:18
Vision Pro it looked great you're
00:03:20
looking at the best Fidelity video that
00:03:21
we've seen on a headset so far um so
00:03:24
that was nice but two new mechanics that
00:03:25
we got to play around with now let's
00:03:27
talk about spatial video right I was
00:03:28
taken to a a situation where I had the
00:03:32
15 Pro uh I got to record like some cool
00:03:35
a sushi experience and I got to go up
00:03:37
close with the sushi chef uh I took some
00:03:40
shots of like a container of Chopsticks
00:03:42
just to see the depth and I forgot how
00:03:45
detailed and how much depth the spatial
00:03:47
videos actually capture now remember the
00:03:49
early demos that you saw spatial video
00:03:51
was more like a square uh proportion and
00:03:54
it was shot directly from the Vision Pro
00:03:56
well now with the iPhone you're going to
00:03:57
get a landscape video view when you
00:03:59
actually watch spal video the way they
00:04:00
present it it's it's faded out on the
00:04:03
edges so you don't see a hard Edge line
00:04:04
when you're watching this video they
00:04:05
want it to feel immersive you can even
00:04:07
dial up and turn on an environment while
00:04:09
you're watching spatial video but again
00:04:11
the depth when I say there's a container
00:04:12
of like 25 Chopsticks in there I could
00:04:15
literally see the detail and the depth
00:04:16
of every Chopstick again this is
00:04:17
recording 1080p 30 frames per second if
00:04:20
you're following really fast moving
00:04:22
objects you can see them the depth is
00:04:24
still there but because the frame rate
00:04:26
and you know this is 10 AP video and
00:04:28
it's in 3D it does break down a little
00:04:30
so you can make some like on still
00:04:32
objects like sushi you can make some
00:04:34
like I did some nice pans and I mean you
00:04:36
could see the Flesh and the detail on
00:04:38
that sushi but if I did like really fast
00:04:40
pans you'd start to see the image break
00:04:42
down so I think what the whole point of
00:04:44
this is that we're going to get
00:04:45
comfortable figuring out what it excels
00:04:47
at and what it doesn't I think you know
00:04:49
anytime you involve people you don't
00:04:50
want them like parts of their arms or
00:04:53
legs you know chopped out of frame you
00:04:54
kind of want to keep them in there and
00:04:56
also static objects with slow movement
00:04:58
is really nice but the detail and the
00:05:00
depth you know I've seen 3D videos where
00:05:03
maybe it feels like you capture two
00:05:05
levels of depth here it feels like it
00:05:06
goes 4 five levels deep and so I was
00:05:09
impressed with it and I think the whole
00:05:10
point of spatial video is more about
00:05:12
capturing these memories and when I saw
00:05:13
some of the things they were showing us
00:05:15
a family making lemonade have people
00:05:17
around a campfire in a fireplace it I I
00:05:21
think spatial videos is kind of going to
00:05:22
kind of mess with us emotionally because
00:05:24
I could think about if you capture these
00:05:25
amazing memories and then you watch them
00:05:27
in 3D without immersive audio and it
00:05:31
takes you back in a time maybe it's a
00:05:32
loved one someone who's here someone
00:05:34
who's passed on that could be really
00:05:36
powerful so um just having those
00:05:38
memories now being able to record
00:05:39
spatial video with the new iOS 17.2 beta
00:05:42
today and basically store these all is
00:05:44
going to be great now how can you watch
00:05:46
them right now well once you record that
00:05:48
video again I told you it's an hvc file
00:05:50
you can view it on an iPhone but it'll
00:05:52
look completely flat and I asked Apple
00:05:54
they said that the video that you're
00:05:55
looking at is going to be from the wide
00:05:58
camera angle that you watch on on your
00:05:59
phone when it's flat but again this
00:06:01
video is packaged with both video
00:06:02
streams so when it's let's say you me
00:06:04
send through iMessage the spatial video
00:06:07
to someone who has an apple Vision Pro
00:06:09
they'll be able to see that file it'll
00:06:11
be larger right because it's 130 Megs
00:06:13
per per uh per minute it's going to be a
00:06:15
larger file but you'll be able to send
00:06:17
these um over the internet but if
00:06:18
someone just has from iPhone to iPhone
00:06:20
even today and you deliberately choose
00:06:21
to record moments in TD 1080p in spatial
00:06:24
video then they'll when they look it on
00:06:26
their phone they'll see that flat
00:06:28
version that comes from the wi camera
00:06:30
Now to turn on spatial video you'll
00:06:31
actually have to go into the settings
00:06:33
and go into the camera settings and then
00:06:35
turn on spatial video as an option but
00:06:36
what's cool is now whenever you open up
00:06:38
the camera app you will actually see a
00:06:40
little icon in the corner that looks
00:06:42
like you know the Apple Vision Pro
00:06:43
headset and you can click on that once
00:06:46
you select it it then asks you to rotate
00:06:48
your camera sideways in landscape mode
00:06:50
to record that video so you can't do
00:06:52
this in vertical video you'll do it in
00:06:54
landscape but once you activate that
00:06:56
option it's always going to be available
00:06:57
it's going to be one of the first icons
00:06:59
that you see when you open up your
00:07:00
camera app just to make it really really
00:07:02
easy front and center and you know
00:07:05
exactly what you're shooting when you do
00:07:06
it so it's always tons of fun to jump
00:07:08
into an apple Vision Pro experience I
00:07:11
will say still after using the second
00:07:13
time the The Vision Pro that we used I I
00:07:16
don't feel like there was anything
00:07:18
physically different the the weight you
00:07:19
know for me depending on how it balances
00:07:22
on your face I did still feel the weight
00:07:24
of the Apple Vision Pro after about
00:07:26
maybe 10 minutes I felt like we spent a
00:07:28
good amount around maybe like 20 25
00:07:30
minutes in these new experiences and
00:07:32
playing around with spatial videos so
00:07:34
that's always going to be kind of one of
00:07:35
the challenges not only is yes it starts
00:07:37
at
00:07:38
$3,499 but then the other the other
00:07:40
challenge is okay how does this fit and
00:07:43
feel on your face for long-term use that
00:07:46
the jury's still thinking about that
00:07:47
like me I haven't made a ver on I got to
00:07:49
wait till the final product till I can
00:07:50
review it but I'm I'm still I'm still
00:07:53
you know we'll see what happens so
00:07:55
either way um spatial video I loved it
00:07:58
it is 1080p don't be be uh turned off by
00:08:02
that the it's more about the emotion
00:08:05
that I felt watching these videos and
00:08:06
knowing how I could use in the future
00:08:08
and knowing how it could take me back to
00:08:10
memories and feel ridiculously immersive
00:08:14
that's I think the power of this feature
00:08:15
and also this is content that Apple
00:08:17
wants us to record because look when we
00:08:20
get an Apple Vision Pro this is a
00:08:21
Content consumption device also it's a
00:08:23
new Computing experience but those are
00:08:25
the two top ways that people in my mind
00:08:26
are going to really use this out of the
00:08:28
gate so we need they us to record
00:08:29
spatial video to then feed this beast
00:08:31
and so there you go those are just like
00:08:33
my first impressions and just from
00:08:35
someone who has now experienced
00:08:36
recording spatial video but also viewing
00:08:39
that spatial video on the Apple Vision
00:08:41
Pro so obviously stay tuned we got
00:08:42
plenty more coverage here for my channel
00:08:44
but thanks for watching and we'll see
00:08:45
you on the next one all right peace love
