00:00:00
usually a crash this bad would write
00:00:02
your car off but there's a Twist after
00:00:06
this BMW M3 was crashed into a house it
00:00:09
left some serious
00:00:11
damage and it turns out the driver
00:00:14
wasn't insured which is bad news for him
00:00:17
but good news for me because if this car
00:00:19
got as far as the insurance they say
00:00:21
it's not repairable but today we're
00:00:24
going to prove him
00:00:27
wrong today's challenge is going to
00:00:31
be this rear quarter and this is
00:00:34
something that I've never done before
00:00:37
because not only is it the rear quarter
00:00:39
it's also all the inner structure of the
00:00:42
car here which is uh usually would take
00:00:45
a specialist repair
00:00:49
but uh today not insurance companies
00:00:54
have a lot to consider before deciding
00:00:56
the car's repairable how much is the car
00:00:58
worth is it safe to repair
00:01:00
how much are the parts what would the
00:01:02
labor cost be and sometimes even the
00:01:04
cost of providing a higher car comes
00:01:06
into it luckily for me I only have to
00:01:09
consider some of those points and I've
00:01:11
already carried out a lot of work whilst
00:01:13
keeping it under budget 37 750 but now
00:01:18
it's left me with the biggest part of
00:01:20
the repair we have Jack from Florida U sorry
00:01:25
Freddy we've stole Jack from you now
00:01:27
they Nick me in the last video before
00:01:29
starting any repairs to this car I
00:01:31
called Jack to get his professional
00:01:34
opinion is this repairable yeah
00:01:37
anything's repairable and to be 100%
00:01:40
sure we were doing it right Jack come
00:01:42
over so basically what you're going to
00:01:43
do is I'm going to give you something to
00:01:45
cut this whole thing out we are just
00:01:47
going to start hacking out stuff it's
00:01:48
going to look scary but it's going to be
00:01:51
100% better once we cut it all
00:01:53
out 100%
00:01:56
better and that's exactly what we did I
00:01:59
started hacking away all the damage
00:02:01
Parts on the rear because once we get
00:02:02
the outer layer off we should be able to
00:02:04
see the damage inside my compressor has
00:02:07
not got the power to do it we don't want
00:02:09
to grind it because if we start grinding
00:02:11
it's going to flick Sparks all over like
00:02:13
the carbon roof we need to use the
00:02:15
compressor so I think we're going to
00:02:17
head to mallerie Performance and uh use
00:02:20
their
00:02:23
compressor and with a bigger compressor
00:02:25
the job was a lot easier and I got to
00:02:27
work at cutting away the rear quar
00:02:33
[Laughter]
00:02:34
now we can see the full inner structure
00:02:36
of the car and you can see it's built up
00:02:39
of loads of different parts now we're
00:02:41
got to work out what we need to replace
00:02:43
and what's safe to
00:02:45
keep there was actually a lot more parts
00:02:47
which were damaged including a lot of
00:02:49
the inner structure so I'm cutting away
00:02:52
all of the damaged parts now but being
00:02:54
careful not to damage anything which is
00:02:56
worth
00:02:58
keeping which left
00:03:00
with not much really let's see the
00:03:04
fitment oh bang on now took all the
00:03:08
tension on off this this is all nice and
00:03:10
wasn't like that
00:03:11
before but halfway
00:03:15
there look at how different looks
00:03:18
mint not so mint it look wow
00:03:23
crazy W that looks
00:03:25
mad now we've got a lot of the damage
00:03:28
parts off it's It's Time to Begin work
00:03:31
and first thing I'm going to do is
00:03:32
remove the rear door this is going to
00:03:35
give us a lot more access for where
00:03:36
we're working and it's a pretty easy
00:03:38
thing to
00:03:40
remove now we can see even more of the
00:03:43
damage next up we got to get the car in
00:03:45
the air on axle stands and then it can
00:03:48
get underneath it and start removing the
00:03:49
side skirt the rear quarter runs all the
00:03:52
way down pretty much to the front of the
00:03:54
car and the side skirt covers a lot of
00:03:56
this so we need to remove it to assess
00:03:58
any damages under underneath that and
00:04:00
whilst I was doing that my dad was
00:04:02
inside the car starting to remove the
00:04:04
roof lining because we're going to be
00:04:05
doing a lot of welding on this car we
00:04:07
don't want to set fire to anything and
00:04:09
the roof lining will probably be the
00:04:11
first thing that sets fire and with all
00:04:13
the interior lights
00:04:14
unclipped we can finally pull the roof
00:04:17
lining out of place through the front of
00:04:19
the car because we haven't got the wind
00:04:21
screen
00:04:24
in look at all the carbon oh yeah that
00:04:27
looks Wicked now we still need to get
00:04:31
off all this damage part and we're going
00:04:33
to say from this line forward is very
00:04:35
good um and from backwards is very bad
00:04:39
so what we got to do but this thing is
00:04:41
on the inside some of the parts are very
00:04:43
good so what we want to try and do is
00:04:45
these little spot welds here we don't
00:04:47
want to drill them all the way through
00:04:49
because then we got nothing to weld on
00:04:51
so we got to try and almost sand off the
00:04:55
spot weld so we can break off this part
00:04:59
of the body without damaging the under
00:05:01
part is that right jack that's correct
00:05:02
how can he hear me with these headphones
00:05:04
on I got x-ray hearing I need some eyeg
00:05:08
glasses that's what they call them in
00:05:10
America eyeg glasses on and I'm now
00:05:12
using the belt sander to just weaken
00:05:14
those spot welds what I'm trying to do
00:05:16
is just take off the top of the spot
00:05:18
Weld and not damage the panel underneath
00:05:21
it and there is a lot of these spot
00:05:24
Wells which hold the outside panel to
00:05:26
the inside structure so I'm going to be
00:05:28
here a long time my dad's now removing
00:05:31
all of the wiring around the wheel art
00:05:33
because we're going to be doing a lot of
00:05:34
cutting and Welding around there and all
00:05:36
the wiring on the inside of the rear
00:05:37
quarter as well and I'm still at it with
00:05:40
sanding down these spot WS once I think
00:05:42
I've sanded down enough I'll use this
00:05:44
spot weld chisel to wedge in between the
00:05:46
outer panel and the inner panel to break
00:05:48
away these spot welds and by doing this
00:05:51
I should be able to separate the outside
00:05:53
skin to the inside skin not forgetting
00:05:56
all the spot worlds which are on top as
00:05:58
well this job is pretty
00:06:01
Relentless just about ready to come off
00:06:03
so we're going to cut a line here and
00:06:06
then the reason we're going to cut here
00:06:09
and not somewhere up here because this
00:06:10
still looks okay is because this is a
00:06:12
nice area to to join on cuz it's like
00:06:15
flat and you can hide it quite nice I'm
00:06:17
going to let Jack do that in case I snag
00:06:19
the inside and then that'll be a big
00:06:21
problem
00:06:22
[Music]
00:06:27
so so now Jack's cutting the outer
00:06:30
quarter panel off being careful not to
00:06:32
cut through and damage the inner panel
00:06:34
because this part of it looks
00:06:38
okay yeah
00:06:40
yeah
00:06:42
yeah woo look at that
00:06:46
now there's barely oh there is more
00:06:49
stuff we've got to take off have we got
00:06:51
to take all that
00:06:53
off
00:06:57
oh okay so now
00:07:00
in a
00:07:02
structure it doesn't stop there does it
00:07:04
the whole thing got the whole thing got
00:07:06
to go CU that's all one piece and this
00:07:08
is all this oh
00:07:11
wow that is a lot of drilling yeah this
00:07:15
is this is not an easy job um
00:07:18
God oh dear that's Kevin's
00:07:22
blanket Kevin they've used to blanket me
00:07:26
sorry Kevin but now we've got to be
00:07:28
really careful because now I'm sanding
00:07:30
down the spot welds of more damaged
00:07:32
Parts but now when I'm separating these
00:07:34
damag parts I want to make sure I don't
00:07:36
damage the part that they're connected
00:07:38
to because we want to keep that and some
00:07:40
spot worlds have got to drill out again
00:07:43
all of this takes so much patience and
00:07:46
we've got to be so careful here but
00:07:48
between me and Jack we're getting
00:07:49
through it and it's quite interesting to
00:07:51
see how this car's built in all these
00:07:53
tiny little sections and all of these
00:07:55
sections together give it the strength
00:07:57
that it needs but now it needs to go up
00:07:59
in the ramp and we need to remove the
00:08:01
wheel because there's even more parts
00:08:03
that we need to replace underneath the
00:08:05
arch we're having to cut off way more
00:08:08
than we originally thought just because
00:08:11
there was damage to this Arch like the
00:08:13
inner Arch here but this inner Arch is
00:08:16
all one big like huge panel all the way
00:08:18
to the inside so we're actually going to
00:08:20
have to take off this damper here and
00:08:23
we're going to be replacing this part as
00:08:25
well which means we're going to get to
00:08:27
all the worlds underneath these this
00:08:29
seam here which this is a way bigger job
00:08:33
than we thought but still possible I
00:08:36
think more grinding let's do it this is
00:08:41
definitely part of the reason why the
00:08:42
insurance companies won't touch this
00:08:44
type of damage they'll quote for the
00:08:46
repair they think it needs and as you
00:08:48
dive into it deeper you'll find it needs
00:08:50
even more which requires even more labor
00:08:53
work luckily for us we're not an
00:08:56
insurance
00:08:57
company out comes the one fire wheel
00:09:00
this is going to grind away all of the
00:09:01
seam sealer which is covering over the
00:09:03
spot Wells that we need to drill
00:09:05
out this
00:09:08
is I I I'll be honest it's not the most
00:09:11
fun thing in the world what a messy job
00:09:13
this was but it needs to be done the
00:09:15
seam sealer is covering over all of
00:09:18
those spot worlds which I mentioned and
00:09:20
without doing it we won't be able to
00:09:21
drill them off nicely you can see here
00:09:23
the panels that we're trying to get off
00:09:25
in one piece without damaging the
00:09:27
underneath and out comes the drill to
00:09:29
drill out even more spot worlds I even
00:09:32
had Liam come in and help me with it
00:09:34
this thing was a huge job with hours of
00:09:36
labor but eventually we got off all the
00:09:40
damaged Parts well nearly all all I have
00:09:43
left to do is take out this piece here
00:09:46
and this metal here right now I'm just
00:09:47
drilling these out let's get started
00:09:50
Jack continues to do even more drilling
00:09:53
again being careful not to damage any of
00:09:55
the parts that we still need we're at
00:09:57
the next stage Well Jack been absolutely
00:10:00
smashing it out but I understand now
00:10:02
what's going on so right we've got
00:10:06
everything damaged off apart from this
00:10:09
rear parcel shelf which is a little
00:10:11
mangled and Jack was thinking about
00:10:13
straightening this out to try and get it
00:10:15
perfect but a better alternative is what
00:10:18
we've said is we have this from BMW
00:10:21
which is the whole rear shelf there
00:10:26
but if we wanted to replace this whole
00:10:28
rear shelf we're going to start start
00:10:29
attacking all of this side and that's
00:10:31
going to be we ain't going to be done
00:10:32
till
00:10:33
2026 so we can get the bits off which of
00:10:37
damage and use parts of this to create a
00:10:40
good one so we're essentially making a
00:10:42
nice piece instead of Smashing all that
00:10:46
end out we you'll see we'll you'll see
00:10:48
when we do it I'm trying to explain it's
00:10:50
not really working very well another
00:10:52
question you might be asking is after
00:10:54
we've got off all of these damag parts
00:10:57
how much is it going to cost us to
00:10:58
replace them all and what are we going
00:11:00
to replace them all
00:11:03
with we have this now the funny story
00:11:07
about this is that this actually come
00:11:10
with the BMW I got this free with the
00:11:14
car so the person who I bought the car
00:11:18
off was going to attempt to repair it
00:11:20
bearing in mind obviously they didn't go
00:11:21
for insurance but couldn't find anyone
00:11:23
that was mad enough to take on the
00:11:25
repair or was it even financially viable
00:11:28
so we got this free with the car which
00:11:30
was an absolute bonus the only issue
00:11:31
with this is we need more than this part
00:11:35
of the quarter there's dents here but on
00:11:37
the good side all this inner structure
00:11:40
everything inside here the shelf and
00:11:42
everything like that is all usable to an
00:11:45
extent even though having this
00:11:46
secondhand part has saved me a lot of
00:11:48
money what it didn't save us is time
00:11:51
you've already seen how long it takes to
00:11:52
strip apart the panels of the outer
00:11:54
structure to the inner structure and
00:11:56
that's exactly what we got to do on this
00:11:58
second hand panel as
00:12:00
well my dad has been working away
00:12:02
stripping apart the panels of this
00:12:04
second and panel whilst I've been
00:12:06
working stripping apart the M3 and in
00:12:08
both equal timing we seem to have it
00:12:11
finished off
00:12:14
y now we have a good in a structure that
00:12:17
we can put on the BMW M3 it's go time
00:12:21
and now we are I say at the point now
00:12:25
where we can start building things back
00:12:26
up and end that right jack I hope so
00:12:28
because we've done a lot of work right
00:12:30
so we just try and get we'll try and get
00:12:32
this onto there but it's got a slot in
00:12:34
like holes here and all sorts so there a
00:12:38
technique of doing it okay hopefully
00:12:40
should we get it on are we all going as
00:12:42
a as a team this is the time the
00:12:46
secondhand inner structure meets the BMW
00:12:50
M3 a lot of people think you might need
00:12:52
a jig for this type of work but as long
00:12:54
as everything is in measurement which it
00:12:56
was there's no reason to use a jig for
00:12:58
this type of work step 67 now all of
00:13:03
this is on and you can see the holes
00:13:05
that we've drilled out and I would say
00:13:08
spot weld but it's not called spot
00:13:09
welding is it's called plug weld plug
00:13:12
weld in so we're going to put Jack's
00:13:14
already uh started trying the welder out
00:13:16
here and we're going to just do every
00:13:19
single plug world now which is a lot
00:13:23
like there's literally holes everywhere
00:13:24
it looks like a stack of cheese at the
00:13:27
minute let's get welded I'm The
00:13:29
Apprentice the super professional here
00:13:32
so I am I am impressed a little bit of
00:13:35
welding and that looks amazing so have
00:13:38
at
00:13:40
it nice that sounded good you missed a
00:13:42
little bit oh I missed a little bit
00:13:44
that's not bad like this is literally
00:13:46
your second weld on the car yeah yeah
00:13:48
I'm happy with that so can I just plug
00:13:50
that bit in yeah go for
00:13:53
it yeah there you go not bad not bad but
00:13:57
if we're going to get done
00:13:59
and I want it done by tomorrow and not
00:14:02
next week I think you better take over
00:14:04
I'll take
00:14:06
that so what we essentially have done
00:14:08
here is replace all of broken and bent
00:14:10
Parts with secondhand straight parts and
00:14:13
it' be pretty obvious if anything was
00:14:15
out a tolerance because it just wouldn't
00:14:17
line up now we have to take this little
00:14:20
piece here we decided not to put this
00:14:21
whole piece in we really didn't need to
00:14:23
but we're going to cut this right on
00:14:25
this line here that I've made wow there
00:14:28
wow this is going to be a huge Time
00:14:31
Saver and sav's replacing that whole
00:14:33
back panel okay so now that should fit
00:14:36
oh my God that is
00:14:39
sensationally wow you've just got to
00:14:42
weld that together Jack made sure that
00:14:45
the panels are spot on he's going to
00:14:47
clamp it down and weld it together weld
00:14:50
time we're going to let Jack do the
00:14:52
welding between the two panels because
00:14:55
this is a pretty vital part and I'm not
00:14:57
so experiencing welding yet
00:14:59
yeah look
00:15:02
joined joined up clean it up looking
00:15:05
good all these spot world are in that is
00:15:08
pretty much most of the inner panel done
00:15:11
well done Jack oh am boom original
00:15:14
ganger now you can see all the spot
00:15:16
welds or plug welds where we've put in
00:15:18
the exact OEM spots they were before so
00:15:21
it'll be as strong if not stronger than
00:15:25
standard
00:15:27
now Jack is been absolutely smashing it
00:15:30
can we just say thanks to Jack and
00:15:32
subscribe to Jack's Channel because all
00:15:35
day he's come over and he's just stayed
00:15:36
in the unit and we've not let him out he
00:15:38
slept in here and everything and he's
00:15:40
got this far but I feel like I've
00:15:41
learned so much as well so there's a
00:15:43
point as well where Jackie is going to
00:15:45
have to go and we're going to have to
00:15:46
carry on this ourselves isn't that like
00:15:48
today yeah that's today so we're trying
00:15:50
to get as much done as possible and now
00:15:52
it's a huge moment all of this is set in
00:15:55
and it's all primered up and nicely
00:15:58
sealed up to an extent but now it's the
00:16:01
point where we're putting on as you like
00:16:04
to call it the side panel no the side
00:16:07
piece the side piece called what Sarah
00:16:10
Sarah the side piece is coming out look
00:16:12
at this a
00:16:15
subscriber sorted me out with Sarah the
00:16:18
side piece Sarah looks good so a
00:16:21
subscriber messaged me saying he's been
00:16:23
trying to sell this for ages on eBay not
00:16:25
sold it I don't know why I mean there
00:16:26
must be a handful of people that really
00:16:28
want this
00:16:30
Sarah the side piece this is how the
00:16:33
panel would come if I ordered it from
00:16:35
BMW the whole side of a car as you guys
00:16:38
know we don't need the whole side of the
00:16:40
car so Jack's now cutting off the parts
00:16:43
which we do need leaving it with a bit
00:16:45
of
00:16:52
overhang wa B oh my God look at that
00:17:00
we then got to take the side piece off
00:17:02
put some masking tape on it which is
00:17:04
going to help Jack cut it in a perfectly
00:17:07
straight line on the top half and on the
00:17:10
bottom half then we can put the side
00:17:12
piece back on the car overlay it onto
00:17:15
the panels which are already there mark
00:17:17
them up and once Jack has made his Mark
00:17:19
in the top half and the bottom half we
00:17:22
can then take the side piece back off
00:17:24
the car again and it can make a perfect
00:17:27
cut in both of
00:17:30
G this is going to ensure that we get a
00:17:33
nice line up between the side piece and
00:17:36
the original car is that
00:17:39
interesting now when we put the side
00:17:41
piece back onto the car you can see it
00:17:45
lines up perfectly well done Jack we
00:17:48
couldn't have done this without
00:17:50
you now before we do any welding we're
00:17:53
going to put the wheel on Lower it off
00:17:55
the ramp get the door and put the door
00:17:57
on as well
00:17:59
woo we need to make sure everything
00:18:01
lines
00:18:03
up look at that including the boot as
00:18:06
well and instead of having it on the
00:18:08
ramp we've lowered it to the floor to
00:18:10
make sure none of the panels are flexing
00:18:11
anywhere the only thing which was
00:18:13
slightly off was the boot lid so we had
00:18:16
to make a few more adjustments But after
00:18:19
those adjustments look at that we got it
00:18:22
pretty much spot on with this being
00:18:24
confident that it will fit the side
00:18:25
piece comes off go madad will start to
00:18:29
drill some holes in it ready for the
00:18:31
spot welds to go in or the plug welds
00:18:33
and then drill some holes in the
00:18:35
existing panels on the car as well and
00:18:37
then I'll get the panel bond out and
00:18:39
start applying it to the inside of the
00:18:41
arch on the side
00:18:44
piece Jack will make sure it's neatened
00:18:48
[Music]
00:18:51
up then I also apply panel bond to the
00:18:54
inner Arch on the car at the moment this
00:18:57
is how it's done from Factor it we can
00:19:00
then put back on the side piece for the
00:19:02
final time and the next step would be to
00:19:05
weld
00:19:07
it hello it's uh the rear Quarters on
00:19:11
we're going to get Jack to do this world
00:19:13
here cuz I think that's going to be
00:19:15
quite vital if we mess that up and then
00:19:18
after that we can do all the spot worlds
00:19:20
clean it all up paint it and start
00:19:22
pulling it back together I think that's
00:19:23
it it's almost fixed yeah it's almost
00:19:25
there it is literally almost there yeah
00:19:28
Sarah is doing bits let's do it why are
00:19:31
you putting that on that's for Jack
00:19:32
you're not welding I'm
00:19:35
watching Jack got to work with joining
00:19:38
sarra the side piece to Michael the M3 I
00:19:43
guess we can call him and after we'
00:19:45
finished they'd almost be joined as
00:19:48
[Music]
00:19:50
one now guess what we're going to do
00:19:53
more welding I'd assume yeah more
00:19:55
welding yeah you're correct so now we've
00:19:57
got to weld all the these little holes
00:19:59
which Jack's left us to do then we're
00:20:01
going to clean it up and then we well
00:20:04
you'll see but we're doing it now so it
00:20:06
could go terribly wrong but we'll see
00:20:08
how we go you don't seem confident I'm
00:20:14
confident at least one of us
00:20:19
are
00:20:22
yeah we were left to our own devices now
00:20:26
it was down to me and my dad to get this
00:20:28
quar panel on and get it on safely
00:20:31
without messing anything
00:20:32
[Music]
00:20:37
up and so far I think it was looking
00:20:40
pretty good we cleaned up the worlds
00:20:42
that we put on and we almost ready for
00:20:45
the next
00:20:46
[Music]
00:20:48
step what's going on over here just
00:20:51
mixing paint cuz Matt says he don't know
00:20:52
how to do it do you know how to do it no
00:20:55
Next Step all of this is exposed metal
00:20:59
now um all of our beautiful welds inside
00:21:03
the car doesn't need to be sealed
00:21:05
because it's not exposed to the elements
00:21:07
we also need to Edge prime it to stop it
00:21:09
from rusting which is what I'm going to
00:21:12
do now and then we're going to move to
00:21:13
the next step so all I'm going to do is
00:21:16
just oh look at the technique just dust
00:21:19
on a little
00:21:21
oh not that part I'll just X prime or
00:21:23
everything guys and I'm going to check
00:21:26
back with you one side x Prime cuz we
00:21:28
don't want to get primer all over the
00:21:29
camera and because otherwise none of you
00:21:31
will be able to see this might be a good
00:21:33
time to ask you guys who are not
00:21:34
subscribed to the channel already just
00:21:36
to hit that subscribe button below it is
00:21:38
completely free right X Prim is on now
00:21:43
paint which M dad Mi mixed I've never
00:21:45
used this gun ever before don't know how
00:21:47
to paint it don't have to be good though
00:21:49
can I just show you like the other side
00:21:51
look what BMW have done they've just
00:21:52
done a light spray so that's what that's
00:21:55
what I'm going to go for and we'll see
00:21:57
how it turns out out you look very
00:22:00
professional with that thank
00:22:08
[Music]
00:22:13
[Music]
00:22:17
you think we smashed it right BMW paint
00:22:21
look like at our paint I think it
00:22:24
actually is better I think it's not
00:22:26
actually that bad to be fair B on you're
00:22:28
never going to see that it's all going
00:22:30
to be covered up with all this
00:22:31
insulation and that but the fact that
00:22:32
we've got a base coat on there is a 10
00:22:34
out of 10 then there should be no
00:22:38
painting from now on apart from painting
00:22:41
this which we're not going to attempt
00:22:42
that because like that was just poor
00:22:44
workmanship wires anytime a panel joins
00:22:47
between one panel and another panel it's
00:22:49
got this seam sealer on I fail
00:22:51
dramatically at the BMW M5 but I've been
00:22:56
taught how to do it now and I think I'm
00:22:57
going to give this shot next and this is
00:22:59
all my masking up because that's what I
00:23:01
didn't do last time mask it up run the
00:23:03
sealer down try and make it look as OEM
00:23:06
as possible bear in mind a robot did
00:23:09
this every bit where the panel joins
00:23:12
we've got a seam seal I guess let's do
00:23:15
it let's go so I'm hoping now the second
00:23:18
time of me attempting to seam seal
00:23:20
panels I get it a little bit better this
00:23:22
time I'm using a brush on seam sealer
00:23:24
and it looks quite messy at the moment
00:23:26
me just brushing it on but I'm hoping
00:23:28
when I pull the masking tape off it
00:23:30
should finish quite nicely I'm trying my
00:23:32
best to get the same sort of texture as
00:23:34
the OEM seam sealer but most importantly
00:23:36
is just making sure that the panels are
00:23:38
actually sealed it's more important the
00:23:40
sealer actually does its job rather than
00:23:42
looking good and you know what I don't
00:23:44
think I've actually done too
00:23:47
[Music]
00:23:49
bad yes it could be better and there's
00:23:51
room for improvement but it is a lot
00:23:54
better than last time and what I've done
00:23:55
as well is mased up the area and then
00:23:57
give it a of paint
00:23:59
underneath and I am pretty happy with
00:24:02
[Music]
00:24:04
that bearing in mind all of this is
00:24:07
going to be covered up with Arch liners
00:24:08
Trims and sound deadening you can see
00:24:11
there has been work done but I don't
00:24:12
think it looks like bad work in my
00:24:14
opinion and with all that done I could
00:24:16
start putting back all the wiring and
00:24:18
the sound ending in the interior and
00:24:20
guide all the wiring loom back into
00:24:22
place and start installing everything
00:24:25
back to where it should go like the
00:24:26
amplifiers in the boot look at survived
00:24:29
the
00:24:34
accident both amplifiers are now back in
00:24:36
the rear quarter next to the boot and
00:24:39
after that I can now put back in the
00:24:41
battery I slot it in place put all the
00:24:44
trims and accessories on it lock it
00:24:48
down and we're on to the next step pyro
00:24:51
fuse now on this one on a lot of cars
00:24:55
you can get away with cross referencing
00:24:57
Pyro is it cuz when you go to a main
00:25:00
dealer they will try and make you buy
00:25:02
this whole line and everything like that
00:25:05
just for the sake of a pyro fuse which
00:25:07
could probably get for like £1 15 the
00:25:09
issues with this pyro fuse on BMW it's a
00:25:13
sealed unit and it's in like that and
00:25:15
when the explosive goes off it pops it
00:25:17
away the power and then when it pops it
00:25:20
away it takes power away from the starty
00:25:22
can't start the car again after it's
00:25:24
been in an accident just in case there's
00:25:26
oil everywhere now
00:25:30
unfortunately I had to get one from BMW
00:25:34
£6 plus that because look it's a sealed
00:25:37
unit I can't actually buy them from
00:25:40
anywhere else it's a sealed unit it's
00:25:42
got all these cables with it there's no
00:25:44
way we can cross reference it £16 is
00:25:47
quite expensive just for effectively a
00:25:49
fuse and we didn't even need these
00:25:51
cables but now at least we'll be able to
00:25:54
start the car so I've got to fit this
00:25:57
and we should be able to start the car
00:25:58
without jumping that pyro
00:26:01
fuse let's do it part of the CA in
00:26:05
disconnects from here which I assume
00:26:07
just goes to the body electronics that
00:26:09
goes down connects to the battery and
00:26:11
then there's another cable which sort of
00:26:13
connects at the bottom which sends the
00:26:15
power directly to the starter motor with
00:26:17
the power fuse bolted on you can see the
00:26:19
connection here going to those two wires
00:26:21
which will go straight to the engine and
00:26:23
connect to the starter motor now we
00:26:25
should be able to start the car no
00:26:26
problem after that I can start putting
00:26:28
in the rear shock absorber this is
00:26:30
pretty easy to do there's just some
00:26:32
bolts holding it to the rear quarter and
00:26:34
one bolt holding it to the rear arm
00:26:35
remembering to put back all the wire in
00:26:37
where it came from now onto the under
00:26:40
trays a bumper uh holder on her goes in
00:26:44
that the zip
00:26:46
and oh my God it's
00:26:49
Sensational that in the bumper bracket
00:26:53
as well goes this and this is a sensor
00:26:56
for what I believe is Lane assist I
00:27:00
think it needs to be calibrated but that
00:27:02
slops
00:27:03
in yeah I think that sits behind the
00:27:05
bumper and it helps you for Lane
00:27:07
assisting now I've got the bumper holder
00:27:09
on her bolted to the side of the car I
00:27:11
can start to fit the secondhand rear
00:27:13
bumper which I got from a breaker's yard
00:27:15
but we just test fitting it at this
00:27:16
point to make sure it lines up it's in
00:27:19
oh look at that yeah look that's in
00:27:23
there I think that should come out a bit
00:27:26
like that when we got all the brackets
00:27:27
on and now we it actually all lines up
00:27:29
we can take it off and start adding even
00:27:31
more of the bumper trims which go
00:27:33
underneath it and with them on we can
00:27:35
add the rear crash bar which again
00:27:37
survived the accident and then put in
00:27:38
the brand new secondhand rear light I
00:27:40
got going on for real this
00:27:43
time yeah next up to see what if it
00:27:46
lines up the boots or the trunk if
00:27:49
you're American we did test this all out
00:27:51
before welding but we was just worried
00:27:53
that after doing all the welding there
00:27:55
might have been some movement in the
00:27:56
panels then say
00:27:59
Shel work all the way down around
00:28:02
doesn't touch straight up here bang on
00:28:06
there if you look it's pretty flat if
00:28:09
you look it's pretty flat that is a 10
00:28:14
out of 10 it well actually no say it's a
00:28:16
9 out of 10 because it would be a 10 out
00:28:17
of 10 if this was red like that I'm not
00:28:20
putting the arch lining in because the
00:28:23
body shop is still going to paint and
00:28:27
well we'll have to take it off so I'm
00:28:29
going to put the wheel on and then when
00:28:30
I got the wheel on we should be able to
00:28:33
roll it back and then put the interior
00:28:34
in somehow the standard wheel is still
00:28:38
holding air after the
00:28:42
smash
00:28:44
yeah first time with a quarter panel on
00:28:48
you'd never know what do you think it's
00:28:51
great better than I
00:28:54
thought first
00:28:57
time
00:29:02
this is looking so good I can't believe
00:29:05
we actually have a quarter panel on and
00:29:07
we've managed to repair all the inner
00:29:09
structure as well but we don't want to
00:29:11
celebrate too early next up we've got to
00:29:13
clip the side skirt in
00:29:16
place dialed then I'm going to be taking
00:29:19
out these seats because I bought myself
00:29:22
a little treat which you'll
00:29:25
see one BMW M3 is the the Comfort Seats
00:29:30
yes yeah
00:29:32
see oh I can't recline it it's not
00:29:35
plugged in with the seats out I've got
00:29:37
more room to put the roof lining in
00:29:39
place we can slide it back through the
00:29:41
rear window make sure all the electrical
00:29:44
connectors are plugged in and clip it to
00:29:46
the top of the roof then we can push in
00:29:48
all the OS handles as we like to call
00:29:50
them hope fit these are os handles
00:29:53
properly after that screen saver popped
00:29:55
down with the brand new wind screen
00:29:58
because we've got all the airbags in and
00:29:59
we've done all the work to the dashboard
00:30:01
now it's about time we put in the new
00:30:03
windc screen which just fits
00:30:06
perfectly now I'm onto the rear parcel
00:30:09
shelf sound deadling goes in first then
00:30:11
it's held down with these plastic
00:30:14
screws there's a plastic trim and then
00:30:16
the rear seat belts go on top of that
00:30:19
once there're in I can slide in the
00:30:21
fabric with the speakers
00:30:25
on this is a bit mad never seen this
00:30:28
before instead of the damper actually
00:30:29
holding up the boot the hydraulic straw
00:30:32
it just dampens it to stop it from
00:30:35
flying up the spring is actually pulling
00:30:37
open the boot and that's dampering it so
00:30:39
when I close the boot now the Spring's
00:30:42
trying to open it and when I let go the
00:30:45
damper slows it down so it opens nice
00:30:47
and slow that's uh can't say I've seen
00:30:50
that before remember in the last
00:30:53
video the seat belts were locked out
00:30:55
only one seat belt was locked out but I
00:30:58
sent two off to the airbag team to have
00:31:01
the tension is reset because obviously
00:31:03
we're locked and they said the same
00:31:05
thing only one of them had detonated
00:31:08
which means that either there wasn't a
00:31:09
passenger or the passenger wasn't
00:31:11
wearing a seat belt but we should have
00:31:14
two
00:31:15
faultless
00:31:17
seat one faultless seat belt
00:31:20
now
00:31:23
yeah finally we can put back in the seat
00:31:26
belts and now now they should be
00:31:28
faultless they just slide into this
00:31:30
pillar here there's an electrical
00:31:32
connector on them we bolt it all onto
00:31:34
the chassis of the car and then put all
00:31:36
the trims back over the top of it and
00:31:38
then I'm going to do exactly the same
00:31:40
for the passenger
00:31:42
side seat belts are in now I said in the
00:31:46
last video I would have really liked if
00:31:49
I had the bucket seats and I manifested
00:31:51
it I've managed not only to get the
00:31:53
bucket seats but also to get the full
00:31:56
interior to match and was at a really
00:31:58
good price because these seats are known
00:32:00
for being expensive that's horrendous
00:32:03
bro Jesus these are these fit me nice
00:32:07
yeah what are you squashed you don't
00:32:09
look at it no I
00:32:14
don't that is mad that seat some people
00:32:17
like them some people dislike them Nico
00:32:20
is not a fan but I think this is going
00:32:22
to completely transform the interior of
00:32:24
the car and make it look a little bit
00:32:26
more sporty and it's going to add a
00:32:28
little contrast to it as well now the
00:32:31
rear bench is in it's time for the door
00:32:35
[Music]
00:32:37
cards BMW Specialists there's only
00:32:40
actually two bolts holding the door card
00:32:42
to the door and the rest are all Clips
00:32:44
so it's easy enough
00:32:46
done and look at the difference that
00:32:48
that's
00:32:49
[Music]
00:32:51
made yeah oh so we so we made the
00:32:54
executive decisions Keep It In Black
00:32:56
it's up to you that's
00:32:58
compare condition because look it's got
00:33:00
gray stitching yeah this is all dirty
00:33:03
yeah why is that better it goes with the
00:33:05
interior yeah I think the I think yeah I
00:33:07
think look you've got the black the
00:33:10
black Cent on the seat come on let's
00:33:11
send it I would have kept that's a vote
00:33:13
of three saying leave it black and Ethan
00:33:15
thinks white and you think black what do
00:33:17
that's five out of six people yeah what
00:33:19
does m think I think black black it's
00:33:22
only Ethan that wants it white you got
00:33:23
to have it white look at it no why
00:33:26
because it put your arm on it right
00:33:29
we're deciding black let us know in the
00:33:32
comments black or the white armed big
00:33:36
moment apparently word on the street
00:33:39
though with these seats is
00:33:42
underneath they have this module in here
00:33:46
I don't know why I seat needs a module
00:33:48
but it also has a module on here
00:33:50
according to people this seat won't work
00:33:54
unless we have the module coded but I
00:33:57
may be able to switch over the modules
00:33:58
but I want to test that theory first by
00:34:00
just putting it in and see if it works
00:34:02
so I'm just going to put it in plug it
00:34:05
in to see if we get any power to it at
00:34:07
all cuz it' be quite interesting to find
00:34:10
out
00:34:19
okay so it works it was a lie good job
00:34:23
we didn't do it and it's a good job we
00:34:24
tried first easy as that and and it
00:34:27
actually works look the black that works
00:34:31
I think the black armrest with that I
00:34:33
think that
00:34:35
[Music]
00:34:38
works what a difference those carbon
00:34:40
bucket seats have made is 100% transform
00:34:45
the look of it way
00:34:51
better and that is job done these
00:34:56
seats
00:34:58
I'm I'm glad I've got them this is going
00:35:00
to be hard isn't it give me a hand maybe
00:35:03
very big moment is it going to line up
00:35:05
with the quarter don't make a
00:35:07
noise L this Striker thing is not tight
00:35:11
so let's let's just leave that it it
00:35:14
might not close properly
00:35:17
yet oh personally the door's got to go
00:35:21
in a bit more let's uh push that in
00:35:24
tighten that up and we'll go again right
00:35:27
do it then
00:35:28
ready
00:35:31
yeah that is flush that's flush
00:35:35
yes look at
00:35:38
that that
00:35:40
looks pretty good now we need to test
00:35:43
whether we've got any faults because we
00:35:45
shouldn't have all airbags are in
00:35:47
everything is plugged in we shouldn't
00:35:49
have any faults but who knows Let's test
00:35:52
it out okay there's something that's
00:35:55
slightly worrying restraint system fault
00:35:57
tire pressure low rear restraint system
00:36:00
that's the one that's worrying me driver
00:36:01
restraint system and front passenger
00:36:04
restraint system there's a lot of faults
00:36:06
and the rear restraint system is to do
00:36:08
with the rear seat belts which I haven't
00:36:10
changed but there's a good way to find
00:36:12
out whether there is an issue with them
00:36:13
the Carly which is manufactur level
00:36:17
diagnos
00:36:19
Diagnostics and this just goes in your
00:36:21
OBD easy as that you would have seen me
00:36:22
use this device loads of times it simply
00:36:25
just plugs into the OBD port and then
00:36:27
you can connect it through an app on
00:36:29
your phone connect connect so there's
00:36:32
loads of things you can do with this
00:36:33
diagnostic use car check customization
00:36:36
you can unlock a load of stuff first
00:36:38
thing I'm going to do is check for
00:36:39
issues and it's going to run a load of
00:36:41
checks on every single part of the
00:36:44
car let's see what we
00:36:46
find oh my God very
00:36:50
bad so the good thing with this now I
00:36:53
can just click clear issues we're going
00:36:55
to completely clear them and and the
00:36:58
lower number we get now back the better
00:37:01
A lot of the faults are going to be
00:37:02
there because we started the car with
00:37:03
things unplugged but after we've cleared
00:37:05
them we shouldn't get many back I've not
00:37:08
seen an airbag light on the dash
00:37:11
anymore that could potentially be good
00:37:13
news and then Cary had finished doing
00:37:15
her checks and we had a lot less faults
00:37:18
now this is good there's nothing for the
00:37:21
airbags we fitted all of this is to do
00:37:24
with the parking sensors and those
00:37:27
little uh modules that we fitting in the
00:37:29
rear bumper all of that needs to be
00:37:31
calibrated which we may have to take it
00:37:33
to BMW for and would you look at that
00:37:35
we're almost completely faultless just
00:37:37
some tire pressure to add and some
00:37:39
washer fluid dri assistance which is our
00:37:42
lane changing and that type of stuff so
00:37:44
we can ignore that we'll get that sorted
00:37:47
all the airbag lights are off we know
00:37:50
what we're doing thanks call after that
00:37:52
I went into to unlock and customize a
00:37:54
few things on the M3 I just unlocked
00:37:56
video in motion activate Speed
00:37:59
Lock yeah secret menu so now the car
00:38:04
will allow me to play videos on the
00:38:06
screen whilst the car is moving of
00:38:08
course my eyes will be on the road all
00:38:10
the time though another cool thing that
00:38:11
I could check was that the mileage was
00:38:13
legit in this car although the odometer
00:38:15
on the dashboard will read a certain
00:38:17
mileage Carly can tell if there's a
00:38:19
discrepancy by comparing the mileage to
00:38:21
the other ecus in the car Cary has
00:38:24
detected no
00:38:26
tampering it nearly had me good Peace of
00:38:29
Mind from Carly you guys can customize
00:38:32
or code and diagnose your car at home
00:38:35
with one of these kits and I wouldn't
00:38:37
say they weren't good if they weren't
00:38:39
good these are brilliant bit of kits and
00:38:41
we put them in for every road trip go
00:38:42
and grab one with a link in the
00:38:44
description there's a discount code
00:38:45
there as well and uh thank me later when
00:38:48
you're using this in a spot of BU all
00:38:50
you find that your cars had Mish just
00:38:52
scrapping say I think this is all good
00:38:55
and safe to get to the body shop now
00:38:58
let's uh take it for its first actual
00:39:01
proper
00:39:08
[Music]
00:39:13
Drive we've done pretty good solid solid
00:39:18
solid effort I think I literally cannot
00:39:21
believe we've got the M3 this far in
00:39:24
this amount of time although we still
00:39:26
have got a lot more stuff to do to it
00:39:28
we've made a lot of progress already
00:39:30
what a car look at that oh the seats
00:39:33
have made a 1010 difference ain't there
00:39:35
just seeing the seat through that
00:39:37
absolutely solid we proved the insurance
00:39:39
wrong we've done it under budget as well
00:39:42
thanks so much for watching this video

00:39:53

00:39:56

The car has unregistered damaged but if the insurance were to inspect this car then for sure it would be declared a complete write off. But im determined to prove them wrong and fix this M3 safely & under budget. Thanks so much to @jackbuildsit for the help with this build! We couldnt of done it without him!
