00:00:03
prime minister Justin trau has accused
00:00:05
conservative leader Pier POV of
00:00:07
abandoning Ukraine and its fight against
00:00:09
Russia's Invasion now to chat about this
00:00:11
in more detail as political columnist
00:00:13
with a Toronto son Brian Lily who joins
00:00:15
us once again from the Big Smoke now
00:00:17
Brian how and why is the prime minister
00:00:19
making this accusation I mean the Tories
00:00:22
have shown a lot of support for Ukraine
00:00:23
in the past and that's not true of all
00:00:26
right leaning or conservative parties in
00:00:28
other parts of the world where
00:00:30
supporting Ukraine is has been well
00:00:33
something that they've just come
00:00:35
straight out against and said no we
00:00:36
shouldn't be supporting Ukraine you hear
00:00:38
some of that on the uh on the
00:00:40
conservative side South of the Border
00:00:43
and that's what Justin Trudeau is trying
00:00:44
to tie here POV to not because it's true
00:00:47
but because he's desperate due to his
00:00:49
bad poll numbers so what happened is
00:00:52
there was a vote on upgrading or
00:00:55
updating the Canada Ukraine Free Trade
00:00:57
Agreement the conservatives had already
00:00:59
signal they didn't like this update
00:01:01
because they said there's a lot of
00:01:03
things in there that we just don't like
00:01:05
including language that they say will
00:01:07
Tai Canada's hands on a future carbon
00:01:10
tax there's um there's language on
00:01:13
promoting carbon pricing there's
00:01:15
language on not doing anything to
00:01:18
diminish environmental laws that's in an
00:01:21
international treaty does that tie
00:01:23
Canada's hands if Pier PF becomes prime
00:01:26
minister and follows through on his
00:01:28
promise to ask the carbon tax that's why
00:01:30
he voted against this but the Liberals
00:01:33
are trying to uh say that no this is the
00:01:36
adoption of Maga style politics prime
00:01:38
minister Justin Trudeau made that
00:01:40
comment while standing on the stage with
00:01:42
the European commissioner uh president
00:01:45
and in St John's Newland over the
00:01:47
weekend it's absolute Insanity for them
00:01:50
to try and make this claim but it shows
00:01:52
you how desperate they are now Brian you
00:01:55
mentioned the polls and let's talk about
00:01:56
some of the latest poll numbers they
00:01:58
have the Liberals almost t hi now with
00:02:00
the NDP that's how much they've Fallen
00:02:02
the Grits are plummeting in popularity
00:02:04
Across the Nation now you recently wrote
00:02:06
that the trau government has become so
00:02:08
desperate that they've resorted to
00:02:10
attacking the conservatives using small
00:02:13
ball tactics how so yeah they're they
00:02:18
don't have a big policy that they can
00:02:20
point to and say hey this is going to be
00:02:22
really popular in fact many of their
00:02:24
policies are unpopular like the carbon
00:02:26
tax and the fact that they gave a car
00:02:28
vote for is mostly one part of the
00:02:31
country polling shows that's unpopular
00:02:34
uh they're you know being getting beaten
00:02:36
up over the fact that they're going to
00:02:38
have another beer and wine tax increase
00:02:41
in the new year they're they're failing
00:02:43
all over the place and so they're just
00:02:45
lashing out so one example is this
00:02:47
attack saying well you don't support
00:02:49
Ukraine anymore another example is going
00:02:51
after uh POV and saying you were jumping
00:02:55
to conclusions that the explosion on the
00:02:58
Rainbow Bridge in Falls last week was
00:03:00
terrorism well no he asked a question
00:03:03
about media reports about terrorism and
00:03:06
could the Prime Minister update the
00:03:08
house and Trudeau didn't blink an eye at
00:03:10
that point he answered the question and
00:03:11
said oh we take this very seriously and
00:03:14
I'm being briefed by my National
00:03:15
Security and intelligence advisor well
00:03:18
the National Security and intelligence
00:03:19
adviser wouldn't be briefing the PRM the
00:03:21
PM if they knew it was a traffic
00:03:24
accident but 24 hours after that
00:03:26
incident happened yet all the Liberals
00:03:28
out there trying to uh say that PV was
00:03:32
jumping to conclusions trying to imply
00:03:34
that you know this is somehow
00:03:36
islamophobia chrisa Freeland even raised
00:03:39
these two issues and others while at the
00:03:42
finance committee this week she was
00:03:44
being asked a question by the conserva
00:03:45
is about GDP per capita and why it's
00:03:49
falling in Canada why we're getting
00:03:51
poorer and she turned around and said
00:03:53
given the week that your leader had last
00:03:55
week I don't think you should be asking
00:03:57
these questions what on Earth Earth I
00:04:00
mean they're truly truly desperate um in
00:04:03
terms of of lashing out even the the
00:04:06
1600 workers that were reportedly coming
00:04:09
to Windsor Ontario to build the EV
00:04:11
battery plant well it turns out that
00:04:12
wasn't true the government could have
00:04:14
cleared the air up on that instead they
00:04:17
tried to blame it on the Harper
00:04:19
government and say POV was part of the
00:04:20
Harper government that brought in the
00:04:22
free trade agreement with South Korea
00:04:24
that allows this well you could have
00:04:26
just told the truth which is it's not
00:04:28
1600 it's 900 and some of them are only
00:04:31
coming for a couple of months to train
00:04:32
Canadians on how to do the job they
00:04:35
didn't do that they're they're playing
00:04:37
partisan politics with everything to try
00:04:39
and climb their way back up now Brian
00:04:42
some of the numbers I've been reading
00:04:43
recently uh the poll numbers if an
00:04:45
election was held today the Liberals
00:04:47
would virtually be wiped out I mean they
00:04:49
would potentially lose over a 100 seats
00:04:51
from 2015 what are you
00:04:53
seeing yeah and you have to look at the
00:04:56
national numbers and on those it's over
00:04:59
the the last month the polling has put
00:05:01
the the lead for the conservatives
00:05:02
anywhere from 13 points to 18 points I
00:05:06
that's mind-blowing an 18-point lead and
00:05:09
and you can dismiss those ones and say
00:05:11
well that's too high but the trend is
00:05:13
clear nationally it's huge aboca data
00:05:16
pulled out the the numbers for the rest
00:05:18
of Canada minus Quebec where the the the
00:05:21
Liberals are still doing okay and the
00:05:23
conservatives went up to 44% in the rest
00:05:26
of Canada and the Liberals dropped down
00:05:29
to 23 tied with the
00:05:32
NDP that that is headed to wipe out
00:05:34
territory yeah and and I've seen some of
00:05:36
the modeling that you're referring to um
00:05:39
we would end up with a situation of per
00:05:43
the Liberals being in the 50s of seats
00:05:45
right now they've got 158 they could go
00:05:47
down to 52 seats according to one model
00:05:50
and they would have about five MPS west
00:05:53
of the Ontario Manitoba border they'd be
00:05:56
reduced to less than 20 MPS in Ontario
00:05:59
Ario has more than
00:06:01
120 uh seats in the House of Commons and
00:06:04
they'd be reduced to perhaps less than
00:06:07
20 in a province where they now hold 78
00:06:10
that is a a beating of Epic Proportions
00:06:12
not their worst that was Michael Ignat
00:06:14
if in 2011 but they're headed in that
00:06:17
direction a caveat warning to everyone
00:06:20
listening we we don't have an election
00:06:22
yet and campaign still matter you know
00:06:24
it's interesting I was reading a recent
00:06:26
post on X from Dan mcag uh former
00:06:29
liberal MP under the uh was it the the
00:06:31
cretan and the the Paul Martin era those
00:06:34
governments and he was saying that the
00:06:35
conservative party today is more of a
00:06:37
Centrist to right party more of a
00:06:39
Centrist party and that's what the
00:06:40
liberal party used to be where he says
00:06:42
he doesn't even recognize the trudo
00:06:43
Liberals anymore from the party that he
00:06:45
used to serve under for so many years
00:06:47
right yeah well it Dan somebody I see
00:06:50
around town here in Toronto somebody
00:06:51
I've known and covered for a long time
00:06:54
and he's absolutely right on that this
00:06:56
is not your grandfather's Liberal Party
00:06:58
the liberal party has has moved to the
00:07:00
left they've tried to outflank the NDP
00:07:03
um I me just this week housing Minister
00:07:05
Sean Fraser said we should give everyone
00:07:07
a house uh what you had um had
00:07:10
environment Minister Stephen gibo say
00:07:12
I'm a proud liberal and a proud
00:07:14
socialist in response to a question in
00:07:16
the House of Commons that had nothing to
00:07:18
do I don't think with him being a
00:07:20
socialist so yeah this is a very
00:07:22
different Liberal Party uh it when MC
00:07:25
was there they were Centrist and they
00:07:27
were business friendly you can't that
00:07:29
now Brian it appears as though the
00:07:32
federal Tories are attempting to
00:07:33
embarrass the Liberals once again on the
00:07:35
carbon tax forcing another vote on Bill
00:07:38
c234 for a lot of our viewers that's the
00:07:41
bill that would exempt Farmers from
00:07:42
paying the carbon tax on propane and
00:07:43
natural gas used for commercial purposes
00:07:46
such as drying the grain what's the
00:07:48
strategy
00:07:49
here well so the bill passed last March
00:07:52
and it's been before the senate for a
00:07:55
little while now and the Liberals want
00:07:57
to keep saying it's an independence
00:07:59
Senate and yet the Senators that Justin
00:08:02
truda was appointed not all of them
00:08:04
thankfully but many of them some of them
00:08:07
are trying to block this and we saw last
00:08:09
week Andrew Shear put out a wanted
00:08:10
poster with the faces of two of them on
00:08:13
and you know they the Liberals screamed
00:08:15
harassment you're harassing these poor
00:08:17
women he gave out their office phone
00:08:20
number and their Senate email address
00:08:22
and say contact these two senators that
00:08:24
are blocking passage of this bill and
00:08:26
and tell them what you think uh I'm
00:08:28
pretty sure you can still find a
00:08:31
senator's phone number online or in a
00:08:33
phone book if you have one so it wasn't
00:08:36
harassment but they are trying to put
00:08:37
pressure on the Senate and if the Senate
00:08:40
won't pass it at least embarrass the
00:08:42
trudo Liberals on refusing to do this
00:08:44
caret the Liberals keep saying look
00:08:47
farmers are already exempt but you're
00:08:49
right when it comes to drying grains
00:08:50
they're not PV has pointed to a uh not
00:08:54
even just drying grains I believe it's a
00:08:56
mushroom farm in his writing that spends
00:08:58
10,000 ,000 a month on the carbon tax
00:09:02
well that pushes up the price of
00:09:03
mushrooms doesn't it there's the uh the
00:09:06
greenhouse that grows tomatoes that have
00:09:08
you know used to buy their Tomatoes when
00:09:10
I was in Ottawa um they are spending a
00:09:13
ton on the carbon tax so it's it it's
00:09:16
heating barns it's mushroom Farms it's
00:09:19
drying grains it's green houses you know
00:09:22
there's still a lot of farm activity
00:09:24
that is not not exempt from the carbon
00:09:26
tax they want to fix it I think if this
00:09:29
does go to a free vote in the Senate
00:09:31
that it will pass and the trudo Liberals
00:09:33
don't want that and I love my mushrooms
00:09:35
on my steaks I got to tell you Brian now
00:09:37
speaking still with the food theme Here
00:09:39
people are still talking about the POV
00:09:41
interview he did a few weeks ago where
00:09:42
he was munching on that Apple Outdoors
00:09:44
as a reporter was chatting with him now
00:09:46
he had a recent runin with a reporter
00:09:48
from the Canadian press did it land PF
00:09:51
on Fox news yet
00:09:52
again yes it did it landed him in some
00:09:56
hot water with Canadian media uh well
00:09:58
some the Canadian media but yeah Greg
00:10:00
Gutfeld doing another episode talking
00:10:03
about the Canadian politician we love
00:10:05
the best and and showing off pov's uh
00:10:08
Showdown with this reporter this was
00:10:10
over the issue of um you know POV asking
00:10:13
the prime minister in the House of
00:10:14
Commons about possible terrorist attack
00:10:17
at the the bridge that we were
00:10:18
discussing a moment ago and the reporter
00:10:21
showed up and uh was clumsy with her
00:10:24
question well guess what when you are
00:10:27
clumsy with your question expect po
00:10:29
policians to push back and that's what P
00:10:31
have did I've had Trudeau do that to me
00:10:34
you know no no journalist uh you know
00:10:37
stood up and said oh that that's
00:10:38
horrible how dare you do that no Katie
00:10:40
Simpson from CBC got to the mic right
00:10:43
after me and asked her question it's
00:10:45
part of the job you move on everyone
00:10:47
needs to put on their big boy pants and
00:10:48
big girl pants and and just do their job
00:10:51
but uh paie I I will say this he does
00:10:53
have to be careful how often he tries
00:10:56
this tactic of of having run-ins with
00:10:58
the media because it will grate against
00:11:01
some swing voters that he's been able to
00:11:03
pull over to his side if he's doing it
00:11:05
too often Brian as you've heard Alberta
00:11:07
has invoked the sovereignty act Over
00:11:08
clean energy regulations what has the
00:11:11
response been like so far from
00:11:12
environment Minister Steven gibo he's
00:11:15
dismissive of this idea and you know
00:11:17
first off he disputes the entire premise
00:11:20
of Danielle Smith's um complaints about
00:11:23
the uh the clean energy regulations and
00:11:25
says that she's not telling the truth
00:11:27
about it I believe that Premier Smith is
00:11:30
is the right one on this but gibo has
00:11:32
been dismissive of everything just like
00:11:34
he's been dismissive of the two court
00:11:36
cases he's lost he's lost two major
00:11:40
environmental court cases and he just
00:11:42
wants to say no nothing to see here move
00:11:45
on so that's what he's doing with
00:11:47
Danielle Smith um I think he you know if
00:11:51
you remember the the carbon tax vote um
00:11:54
a little while ago where the liberal MP
00:11:56
voted with the opposition parties and he
00:11:59
said Stephen gibo is not the right
00:12:01
person to sell the message about the
00:12:03
carbon tax in Atlantic Canada I would
00:12:05
say Stephen gibo is not the right person
00:12:07
to sell the environmental message
00:12:09
anywhere uh except maybe in Quebec he
00:12:13
remains popular in Quebec the Liberal
00:12:14
Party remains popular in Quebec but gibo
00:12:18
is someone who GRS on voters in Ontario
00:12:22
across the Prairies um and you know look
00:12:26
the Liberals have two seats in Alberta
00:12:28
we know they don't care about Alberta
00:12:30
but him picking fights with provincial
00:12:33
leaders across the country across the
00:12:35
political spectrum is a bad look for the
00:12:38
government Brian when it comes to the
00:12:40
carbon tax Alberta like many problems
00:12:42
yes definitely has a problem with it
00:12:43
Saskatchewan is promising to stop
00:12:45
collecting the tax altogether is this
00:12:48
creating a bit of a national Unity
00:12:49
problem for the trau government it is
00:12:53
and and just so everyone knows because I
00:12:54
always get asked as why why can
00:12:56
Saskatchewan say they won't collect it
00:12:57
why won't my province do that
00:12:59
Saskatchewan has a um a government-run
00:13:03
uh natural gas provider for most of the
00:13:06
province they they provide natural gas
00:13:08
to most of the homes so they can do that
00:13:10
um it's not uh TC energy or Enbridge or
00:13:14
any of these other companies that we
00:13:16
have in Ontario and Alberta uh and if
00:13:18
the premier tried to do that they'd be
00:13:20
telling the companies to break the law
00:13:22
Saskatchewan is saying we're not going
00:13:24
to follow this law absolutely this is
00:13:26
part of a a national Unity problem for
00:13:29
the Trudeau government you've got uh you
00:13:31
know a Resurgence of the party Quebec W
00:13:34
Quebec you've got Alberta invoking a
00:13:35
sovereignty act you've got Mo doing this
00:13:38
uh I've never seen uh the the only thing
00:13:41
that is United are the premieres in
00:13:43
fighting with the federal government um
00:13:46
I've never seen it on this level there's
00:13:48
always going to be some irritant between
00:13:50
Ottawa and various provincial
00:13:52
governments but for the last four or
00:13:55
five years it has been premier coming
00:13:59
together across party lines to have
00:14:03
fight with the government whether it's
00:14:04
on energy policy carbon taxes Health
00:14:07
Care transfers bail reform the the
00:14:10
premieres have been United and and
00:14:12
Trudeau has been seen as someone that
00:14:14
can't get his act together Brian
00:14:17
Edmonton West hend MLA Brooks Aran Paul
00:14:20
stirred up some controversy during a
00:14:22
recent speech at the legislature
00:14:24
referring to people with
00:14:26
uteruses instead of saying women you
00:14:29
saying this language is becoming even
00:14:30
more and more
00:14:31
popular it is becoming unfortunately a
00:14:34
common thing I I wrote about it a few
00:14:36
months ago um that it's an attempt to
00:14:39
erase women from our language but it
00:14:42
continues to go on and yeah this this
00:14:44
bizarre speech of folks with uteruses
00:14:47
well who are the folks with uteruses
00:14:50
those would be women uh but it's an
00:14:51
attempt to say that we we've got to be
00:14:54
uh respectful of the transgendered
00:14:56
Community you you can be respectful of
00:14:59
absolutely everyone without dropping
00:15:01
words like women or referring to women
00:15:04
as Marcy Ian Trudeau's Minister for
00:15:07
gender equity and youth date a little
00:15:09
while ago in the house of common she she
00:15:11
referred to women as menator I don't
00:15:13
know any woman that wants to be known as
00:15:15
a menator
00:15:17
or the um public health agency of Canada
00:15:21
is using terms like chestfeeding now
00:15:24
instead of breastfeeding they're trying
00:15:27
to defeminize women more justy Ras women
00:15:30
all together this is the wrong way to go
00:15:33
absolutely be respectful of everyone
00:15:35
that's what we're all called to do is be
00:15:38
loving and respectful to each other our
00:15:39
fellow Canadians that doesn't mean erase
00:15:42
women and I think this is a uh a bad
00:15:46
path to go down but you know that that
00:15:49
MLA even with Danielle Smith in office I
00:15:52
bet if you went through the language
00:15:54
that the bureaucrats use in reports you
00:15:56
would find government of Alberta reports
00:15:58
using similar language in areas around
00:16:01
Health you would find it in hospitals as
00:16:03
I have and it's uh it's something that I
00:16:07
think we've got to stand up and say you
00:16:08
know what let's stop this and celebrate
00:16:10
our women absolutely political reporter
00:16:13
and Sun columnist Brian Lily thanks so
00:16:14
much for your time today thank you
00:16:18
