Radovan Gobec je besedila za svoje vokalne ali vokalno-instrumentalne skladbe po navadi pisal kar sam, tudi za opereto Planinska roža. Ustvaril jo je leta 1937 v posavski vasici Henina pod Lisco in jo posvetil svoji bodoči ženi Sonji Elschbacher, s katero se je poročil junija istega leta. Opereto je prvič izvedla dramska skupina Kulturno-umetniškega društva Ivana Cankarja 31. marca 1951 v Žalcu, v Mariboru pa so jo premierno uprizorili štirikrat: leta 1952, 1963, 2019 in 2023. Zgodba operete je na videz preprosta, a skriva številne preobrate. Katja Silvana je opustila film in upravlja planinsko kočo na Srečnem vrhu, na katerega zahajajo tudi gledališčniki, a ne vedo, da je bila Silvana nekoč filmska igralka. V svojem gledališču pripravljajo premiero operete Planinska roža, ki so jo napisali na planini. Za premierni nastop zaprosijo Katjo Silvano. To povzroči velike zmešnjave, ljubosumnosti, užaljenost in tožbe, na koncu pa se vse skupaj vendarle razčisti in konča v splošno zadovoljstvo.
