00:09:32
good morning
00:09:33
hello everyone i hope you're all doing
00:09:34
really well um
00:09:36
welcome to another gnomon arp jam my
00:09:38
name is josh herman i'm the ceo of
00:09:40
gnomon school of visual effects
00:09:42
if you've never joined a noman art jam
00:09:44
today what we're going to be doing is
00:09:45
just kind of sculpting some characters
00:09:47
and just kind of hanging out and having
00:09:48
some fun i'm going to turn on the share
00:09:50
screen here in just a second and we're going to be
00:09:52
playing some music uh what i'm going to
00:09:54
do for about probably about the first 20 minutes to a
00:09:56
half hour is just do some warm-ups we've
00:09:58
done this before
00:09:59
in previous streams and often what i'll
00:10:00
do is
00:10:02
uh you know just kind of hang out and
00:10:04
maybe sculpt something from a sphere or
00:10:06
test things um today i want to actually just
00:10:10
play in a different application entirely
00:10:12
uh
00:10:13
and just kind of get into the creative
00:10:15
space before we get into sculpting
00:10:16
anything
00:10:17
as always if the music is too loud if i
00:10:19
sound bad if i freeze if i drop
00:10:21
out whatever just type in the chat let
00:10:23
me know and i'm happy to try to fix or
00:10:25
adjust things for you
00:10:26
but otherwise we will jump straight in
00:10:28
today what i'm actually doing
00:10:31
is i'm playing around in a in a program
00:10:34
called wonder draft
00:10:37
wonder draft is a map making program uh
00:10:40
i'm entertaining you know doing some
00:10:43
dungeons and dragons if you watched any
00:10:45
of this before you know that i'm a big
00:10:46
fan of that from the previous streams
00:10:49
and so this is a an application where
00:10:51
you can make maps and so they have a
00:10:53
bunch of cool stuff that you can do
00:10:55
uh and that's what i kind of want to
00:10:57
explore today so
00:10:58
i just kind of started on this right
00:11:00
before the stream and i've just been
00:11:01
using some randomly generated things
00:11:03
and you'll see this is kind of generally
00:11:05
the shape of what my map is looking like
00:11:10
but right now i'm kind of populating
00:11:11
i've decided to have these four major
00:11:13
cities here
00:11:14
and they're all gonna be leading to this
00:11:15
other one and as i fill this
00:11:17
out we're gonna keep going now again
00:11:19
this is only just something to get
00:11:20
warmed up for today
00:11:22
so it's kind of a fun thing i like
00:11:23
jumping into other types of programs if
00:11:25
possible every now and then
00:11:27
there's this little tree brush which i
00:11:28
can i can brush on which is what i'm
00:11:30
doing here so i'm creating this kind of
00:11:32
a forest
00:11:33
and adjust the density and the placement
00:11:35
rate so that if i wanted to kind of
00:11:37
taper off i can kind of create that
00:11:38
effect
00:11:41
but it's kind of fun so i'm enjoying
00:11:42
just kind of getting it you know
00:11:44
i love sculpting in zbrush i love making
00:11:46
characters it's i mean it's
00:11:47
kind of what i do as a sometimes just as
00:11:49
like a zen
00:11:51
hobby um but there's still something to
00:11:55
jumping into
00:11:56
into something else every now and then
00:11:58
and uh
00:11:59
make this like a really dense forest all
00:12:00
through here
00:12:02
maybe adjust some of the scale size so
00:12:04
some of them are smaller
00:12:09
i'm just kind of break up what you're
00:12:10
doing
00:12:18
uh as always if you guys are put working
00:12:20
on your own personal work or whatever
00:12:22
uh this is gonna be kind of a stylized
00:12:23
ish map at 100 it'll kind of look like
00:12:26
this
00:12:28
so you they they have all these really
00:12:29
cool you know presets which is obviously
00:12:32
a massive tree but it'll
00:12:34
color it based on the location of what
00:12:35
you're doing like it's like a wasteland
00:12:37
it'll color it pat
00:12:39
and you can just kind of come in and
00:12:40
like you know make a little
00:12:42
happy tree land over here which is
00:12:45
pretty great i love
00:12:46
i'm loving playing around with this
00:12:57
we're making some trees
00:13:05
let me zoom out a little bit it's about
00:13:07
50
00:13:09
so what i'm thinking again we'll do this
00:13:11
for about 20 or so minutes
00:13:13
people pile in and just kind of give get
00:13:16
our brain in creative space but um
00:13:18
i'm thinking this is going to be like
00:13:20
over here is going to be sort of like a
00:13:22
densely forest area of the classic
00:13:25
uh desert area kind of the classic ice
00:13:29
and then a wasteland over here and then
00:13:32
of course if the players would start
00:13:33
they would start in none of those areas
00:13:35
because they would have to go explore
00:13:36
them
00:13:37
so bring here
00:13:40
with this nice dense forest exactly the
00:13:44
classic skyrim world
00:13:47
i've been using this brush here which is
00:13:48
kind of a fun like almost like a
00:13:51
valley brush which is kind of cool
00:13:54
and this is again if you guys are just
00:13:55
joining this is called wonder draft so
00:13:57
this is just a program you can purchase
00:13:59
it's not terribly expensive
00:14:01
i think it's like 15 20 bucks it may not
00:14:04
even be
00:14:05
maybe it's a subscription model uh what
00:14:07
kind of fun for making maps there's a
00:14:09
bunch of these as well
00:14:10
online and different things so
00:14:18
hopefully you guys are all doing good
00:14:19
and if you guys are interested in this
00:14:20
uh let me know
00:14:21
uh otherwise i'm happy to you know we'll
00:14:23
jump into other things soon but i'm
00:14:24
curious what kind of projects you guys
00:14:26
are working on in the chat if you guys
00:14:27
are
00:14:28
working on anything for fun if you guys
00:14:30
are working on finals
00:14:32
uh no man's term starts next term or
00:14:34
next week
00:14:35
so we are gearing up for a you know a
00:14:38
big
00:14:39
big up and coming term speaking of if
00:14:42
you guys have any questions or
00:14:44
want to reach out to admissions uh
00:14:46
myself or somebody in the chat can
00:14:47
connect you
00:14:49
um with i think i can do it from here
00:14:51
let me see
00:14:56
there we go we can connect you with uh
00:14:59
our admissions team just fill out one of
00:15:00
those forums
00:15:01
if you have any questions about noman of
00:15:03
course i'm happy to answer those any
00:15:04
questions about art any questions about
00:15:06
anything
00:15:07
uh happy to do that so i think i want
00:15:09
this
00:15:10
this area a little further
00:15:13
and crank up the density and this will
00:15:15
be like super dense through here
00:15:17
[Music]
00:15:23
so like this is where the you
00:15:27
got to be really careful you know when
00:15:29
you're coming through this area
00:15:31
you get lost in the woods
00:15:58
maybe put some trees around this little
00:15:59
lake
00:16:02
might even change up the type of tree
00:16:06
over here
00:16:07
it feels very bob ross this little thing
00:16:10
because it's like oh you know make like
00:16:11
a little happy little
00:16:13
happy little tree land over here these
00:16:16
are all colored like they're
00:16:17
some of them are colored some are not so
00:16:19
you could do like oh geez
00:16:21
you know this
00:16:37
exactly there's no there's no like
00:16:40
mistakes we're just gonna take those
00:16:42
mistakes
00:16:44
we're gonna use them
00:16:47
or use them as inspiration
00:16:50
so kind of get to this tree and maybe
00:16:53
then we get into these
00:16:54
pine tree forest over here
00:16:58
it's kind of sparse
00:17:02
maybe that can be a wasteland there's
00:17:03
also um mountains and stuff we're gonna
00:17:05
play with in a sec
00:17:07
so you can use mountain brushes like
00:17:08
this oh there's like a little mountain
00:17:10
let's make a nice little happy mountain
00:17:12
range over here
00:17:19
i'll use another one of these i kind of
00:17:20
like this one being like a bigger
00:17:23
some bigger mountains
00:17:31
zbrush project for an art contest that's
00:17:33
awesome
00:17:36
uh what's your project you're working on
00:17:45
i love our contests they're one of my
00:17:47
favorite uh things to do
00:17:49
because they they're such a good
00:17:50
motivator like for
00:17:54
um for trying new things for
00:17:57
giving yourself a deadline i'm a huge
00:18:00
huge proponent of
00:18:02
art contest i think they're wonderful
00:18:20
i'm not going to do a mountain range
00:18:22
over here too but i like these dunes
00:18:24
they have speaking of dunes anybody
00:18:25
excited for dune
00:18:27
dune trailer
00:18:32
[Music]
00:18:38
i got a real crush on timothy shalom
00:18:40
right now too i'm not afraid to admit it
00:18:48
anybody saw the king the king
00:18:51
with uh timothy chalamet and robert
00:18:54
pattinson
00:18:56
big fan big fan of that movie
00:18:58
[Music]
00:19:00
oh just accidentally made a whole
00:19:01
mountain range there
00:19:09
all right there we go we're back
00:19:13
let's uh erase this one we'll get these
00:19:16
little mountains back
00:19:19
what is this dunes now let's do these i
00:19:22
like that there's these like
00:19:23
classic little wispy clouds too so
00:19:38
struggling to learn the mechanics uh are
00:19:39
you struggling to learn the mechanics of
00:19:41
zbrush
00:19:43
or just kind of sculpting in general or
00:19:45
sculpting digitally
00:19:51
uh npr filters to get the classic
00:19:54
comic look that's a good that's a good
00:19:56
call one of the things i found success
00:19:58
with was using
00:20:00
uh cavity shaders and uh using a cavity
00:20:03
shader you know you can um
00:20:05
i'll pull up my art station real quick
00:20:06
because there's one on there for you
00:20:11
doubt that i have um
00:20:14
the file with me but it's doing
00:20:16
something like this this is a zbrush
00:20:17
render test
00:20:19
and so i was using uh cavity shading
00:20:23
as the primary element there comics
00:20:25
legend
00:20:26
and i was using that and then i was
00:20:28
using
00:20:29
a couple different ones ones that kind
00:20:31
of had different levels and i would
00:20:33
composite them on top of themselves
00:20:35
and then i would just render a flat
00:20:38
shadow layer separately and it would
00:20:39
composite that on top as well
00:20:41
so that you could kind of get the you
00:20:43
could also change
00:20:45
the direction of the light so you can
00:20:46
get know more moody lighting or top
00:20:48
lighting or backlighting or uplighting
00:20:49
or whatever that is
00:20:50
and then all this stuff like the red was
00:20:52
just painted in
00:20:53
uh but you can kind of see like in here
00:20:55
this you can see the the remnants of the
00:20:57
cavity shading
00:20:58
uh full disclosure i found that cavity
00:21:00
shading is
00:21:02
the comics style is a little difficult
00:21:05
for
00:21:06
more organic shapes faces i found it to
00:21:08
be much more successful
00:21:10
on things like this
00:21:15
yes king was awesome i love that it's so
00:21:17
realistic so brutal
00:21:19
it's like so brutally like the fight
00:21:21
scenes are just so
00:21:23
i don't know it's hard to i don't know
00:21:24
what it is exactly maybe i do but it's
00:21:26
just hard to describe
00:21:28
um big huge fan of it
00:21:31
really dug it
00:21:36
put some of these like this is the place
00:21:39
that nobody explores over here
00:21:41
the dunes oh i like that little brown
00:21:43
dune as well
00:21:47
arrakis desert planet
00:21:51
[Music]
00:21:57
make some of those in there
00:22:01
because you can also come in with this
00:22:02
and like paint which is kind of cool so
00:22:04
go like land
00:22:05
paint and then they have like a couple
00:22:06
presets you can choose any preset you
00:22:08
want but if you color it it'll do that
00:22:13
uh working let's see just digitally
00:22:16
sculpting in general to create
00:22:18
soft and continuous surfaces has been a
00:22:21
nightmare
00:22:22
good question or not not really a
00:22:24
question but that's something we can
00:22:25
talk about later today once we jump into
00:22:27
zbrush in a little bit
00:22:28
uh this is not actually incarnate this
00:22:30
is wonder draft
00:22:31
which i believe is probably a very
00:22:33
similar
00:22:34
program to incarnate which i've heard is
00:22:38
is like i said is very similar uh so this
00:22:41
is wonder draft and it's just kind of a
00:22:44
map making program uh with a bunch of
00:22:46
presets and i'm trying to zoom out and
00:22:48
pretty zoomed in
00:22:49
i'm kind of exploring making you know
00:22:50
this area kind of a
00:22:53
foresty section a desert section it's
00:22:55
kind of kind of playing around with it
00:23:02
it's always nice to jump into other
00:23:04
programs every now and then and just
00:23:05
kind of see
00:23:06
how things happen right i think sticking
00:23:08
into one program forever
00:23:10
i wouldn't make this in vbrush or
00:23:12
anything like that to begin with but uh
00:23:15
it's kind of nice to do just fun to
00:23:17
explore
00:23:21
oh yeah this is wonder draft
00:23:26
there's a ton of those incarnate is
00:23:28
another very popular one
00:23:32
some of these little smaller dunes kind
00:23:34
of like the idea of like there's like
00:23:36
this
00:23:37
like like this is like the classic
00:23:39
skyrim world that somebody mentioned
00:23:40
earlier but there's like the forest area
00:23:42
the wet the winter area the desert area
00:23:45
and then like the wasteland right and
00:23:47
that makes it very simple for the
00:23:48
players to know
00:23:50
kind of what they're going to get into
00:23:51
and how to prepare
00:23:53
well i want to find ways to to break
00:23:54
them up so like maybe there's a really
00:23:56
big mountain range right
00:23:58
this they have these really cool
00:23:59
interesting mountains that are kind of
00:24:00
like this
00:24:02
i want to figure out where to put them
00:24:03
like me i thought about maybe making
00:24:04
like you know like these
00:24:06
volcano sections down here or something
00:24:11
like a wall
00:24:15
beyond the wall sort of an idea
00:24:18
[Music]
00:24:23
only one way in you know where there's a
00:24:26
secret path
00:24:28
oh they have to find
00:24:33
i'm sorry my nerd is definitely showing
00:24:35
today
00:24:37
i don't know what i'm saying sorry it's
00:24:38
it's always there
00:24:40
this is a cool one i like this mountain
00:24:42
range maybe i'll try that one
00:24:46
just erase them
00:24:47
[Music]
00:24:56
oh yeah this is totally like the mortar
00:24:57
mountains i wish i could make them a
00:24:59
little bigger but it
00:25:00
seems like i can't
00:25:02
[Music]
00:25:05
so in a little bit we'll jump into
00:25:07
sculpting and some zbrush stuff
00:25:09
i like these mountains quite a bit
00:25:10
actually
00:25:12
we'll do the oh this is like the classic
00:25:14
trope right you come in through one area
00:25:17
and then you gotta like only there's
00:25:19
like a
00:25:21
everybody's seen this before
00:25:26
the valley it's like there's a crater
00:25:33
[Music]
00:25:40
trying to create basic shapes uh m
00:25:42
helmet
00:25:43
when you say m exclamation helmet is
00:25:45
that something i should know
00:25:46
for some reason my brain is going to
00:25:48
iron man like mark
00:25:49
mark 7 mark 5 mike 42
00:25:52
as soon as you start moving stretching
00:25:55
there's some polishing it's needed in
00:25:57
the lows and highs and the surface
00:25:58
disappear
00:26:01
hard surface sculpting is are you trying
00:26:04
to do like a hard surface helmet or like a
00:26:06
sort of an organic style helmet
00:26:10
in one like a mark one iron man helmet
00:26:13
like the flat steel one
00:26:26
uh that's a difficult shape to sculpt in
00:26:28
zbrush i mean there's a lot of
00:26:30
you know tools you can use in zbrush to
00:26:32
do that
00:26:33
but it's definitely it's definitely not
00:26:35
an easy one i'm not gonna sit here and
00:26:36
lie to you
00:26:38
the key thing that i would say is focus
00:26:40
on the overall proportions first if
00:26:42
possible i know that's a
00:26:43
no-brainer but that's kind of the way
00:26:46
that i would
00:26:47
recommend you approaching it
00:26:54
so today we're just kind of warming up
00:26:55
and warm to wonder draft i love
00:26:57
just kind of warming up in these
00:26:58
programs where there's so many little
00:27:00
presets and it's just kind of a fun
00:27:02
thing to do
00:27:04
you know one thing i might do i don't
00:27:06
love the colors that they give you in
00:27:08
this i do like how it pre-colors
00:27:09
everything
00:27:10
but uh i was considering coming in and
00:27:12
just like erasing
00:27:16
all of the um the paint
00:27:20
this is the water i want the the land
00:27:25
and just doing it in photoshop later
00:27:26
maybe that would be a yeah i can get rid
00:27:28
of all this
00:27:30
and do it myself
00:27:33
so that's an option i'll just try to do
00:27:35
that real quick what if i fill this
00:27:37
ah that's what it looks like so i could
00:27:40
come in later and just
00:27:41
okay i want to zoom out fill this later
00:27:45
compared to like this even those kind of
00:27:46
creates a nice effect but
00:27:48
um filling it with this they can also
00:27:51
let me do they have all these other
00:27:52
themes which are kind of cool
00:27:54
i'll zoom in a little bit uh although
00:27:57
you could do like a paper theme which i
00:27:59
kind of like
00:28:04
now these are the wrong color which is
00:28:05
kind of annoying but
00:28:12
but this gives a very like classic
00:28:16
map
00:28:19
so room to play
00:28:24
i have a bunch of other ones black and
00:28:26
white right
00:28:28
some more colored ones paper was what we
00:28:32
just looked at
00:28:34
i've been using worn adventure is a fun
00:28:38
one
00:28:40
[Music]
00:28:41
uh this is wonder draft is the program
00:28:44
we're using today
00:28:46
[Music]
00:28:52
but there's tons of these
00:28:55
so if you're interested in this um
00:29:00
you like mess with the saturation of
00:29:01
things or just the values of things it's
00:29:03
a fun program
00:29:10
yeah it has like i automatically
00:29:12
generated the landmass you can paint in
00:29:13
the landmass if you like as well but
00:29:15
uh it has this feature where you can
00:29:18
kind of just click it and it'll create a general
00:29:21
landmass for you and then you can
00:29:22
kind of go from there so for now we're
00:29:24
just kind of getting some of these uh
00:29:28
mountains and stuff dialed in get the
00:29:31
rest of these maybe there's like a
00:29:32
massive one
00:29:34
that doesn't really fit in there
00:29:41
through here maybe
00:29:54
for inspiration on maps do i get uh
00:29:57
inspiration from tolkien's books yeah i
00:29:59
think tolkien's a
00:30:00
token is a massive inspiration i think
00:30:01
pray for almost everybody in the
00:30:05
is what i mean in the entertainment
00:30:07
scene there's so many
00:30:09
people that have been inspired by
00:30:10
tolkien in so many ways right
00:30:12
he just his maps you know any map like
00:30:15
game of thrones maps are another big one
00:30:17
that i dug
00:30:19
[Music]
00:30:20
um
00:30:24
mountain range up here so you had these
00:30:26
other map now that i look at these
00:30:27
mountains that they have this preset and
00:30:29
these ones i don't like these ones at
00:30:30
all so i'm going to erase them
00:30:34
we're going to make some new ones what
00:30:37
we had here
00:30:41
uh this is wonder draft we're playing
00:30:43
around in wonder giraffe for a little
00:30:48
while
00:30:54
adjusting the size of these little tiny
00:30:56
mountains
00:31:01
so what i was thinking we could do is
00:31:03
after i get these really quickly blocked
00:31:04
out because we'll only spend about 10
00:31:06
more minutes
00:31:07
uh in the previous streams we've gone
00:31:10
into to
00:31:12
sculpting a character base off of a
00:31:13
random prompt
00:31:18
it's not a custom token preset now it
00:31:21
just kind of has that vibe
00:31:24
i was thinking we could make a character
00:31:25
for one of these locations we had done
00:31:27
this before a little bit
00:31:28
uh and had like you know um
00:31:32
let's make a really dense mountain range
00:31:34
let's see what this happens
00:31:42
well we could name these and they have
00:31:44
some fun naming tools
00:31:46
so if you're into this kind of stuff as
00:31:48
far as like making maps or
00:31:50
or world creation or blue sky like it's
00:31:52
kind of a fun way to do
00:31:58
this
00:32:00
uh this preset is called the warn preset
00:32:02
by the way if you're ever playing around
00:32:03
with this thing
00:32:07
[Music]
00:32:13
it's in here a little couple of rocky
00:32:18
kind of going into the edge of the water
00:32:20
what you can do here which is kind of
00:32:22
cool is usually go to
00:32:23
land and you can make the land go up or
00:32:26
you can make the lane go down
00:32:28
so i just come over here and make a line
00:32:30
go up a little bit around this
00:32:35
has the same brush hotkeys so just use
00:32:38
the brackets
00:32:40
and there we go now that looks like it's
00:32:42
nice and integrated
00:32:49
starting a class at noman next week
00:32:52
awesome
00:32:53
uh which what class are you taking
00:32:59
[Music]
00:33:07
you want to kind of put this like big
00:33:08
thing in there somewhere it's just such
00:33:10
a different style feels like it needs to almost be
00:33:13
like uh
00:33:18
maybe it's further away from everything
00:33:29
maybe we just use it as like a icon
00:33:31
right it's like
00:33:32
this is
00:33:36
different depending on the stroke
00:33:40
there's like these little trees sticking
00:33:41
off
00:33:44
[Music]
00:33:49
that's what i wanted
00:33:55
i think you can grab individual ones too
00:33:58
yeah so i'll take like
00:34:02
this one i want
00:34:07
i'm gonna erase all these oh that wasn't
00:34:09
the one i wanted
00:34:16
change the color
00:34:32
uh you're doing the storyboarding class
00:34:34
that's great awesome
00:34:35
yeah i'm sure it'll be good i've heard a
00:34:38
lot of really good things about
00:34:39
storyboarding
00:34:41
uh we got a question or a comment that
00:34:43
says i don't know anyone else who works
00:34:45
in or studies in concept art and you're
00:34:46
having trouble finding active discord
00:34:49
servers to meet people
00:34:50
especially on lockdown oh um
00:34:54
discord servers i'm not super informed
00:34:57
about all the different types of discord
00:34:58
servers but i'm
00:34:59
there's got to be some or something out
00:35:02
there i would imagine
00:35:06
i don't know though [Music]
00:35:09
if anybody knows of a discord server
00:35:11
maybe we can help our friend out here
00:35:16
if anyone knows any discord servers you
00:35:17
would love to join just finished
00:35:18
characters
00:35:19
design and about to start gesture
00:35:22
awesome
00:35:28
this thing and it's not really working
00:35:36
all right we're gonna let's make some
00:35:38
names we've kind of got a nice starting
00:35:40
point for like general locations
00:35:42
and as i say that i'm like i want to put
00:35:44
some more mountains over here mountain
00:35:45
mountain
00:35:46
you can color them later i'll do
00:35:48
something like this
00:36:18
gonna get a little more in there maybe
00:36:19
we'll make this like uh just do
00:36:22
like i said we'll get into this in a sec
00:36:23
but i wanna quickly block out some ideas
00:36:26
like this could be like more of a planes
00:36:30
basement density of this
00:36:38
grant habit has a huge discord that's
00:36:40
good to know
00:36:59
see like these little pine trees there's
00:37:02
like a very token one
00:37:04
a very specific type of brush pen
00:37:09
you'll actually enjoy doing i think the
00:37:11
trees the most
00:37:20
fun
00:37:22
there we go
00:37:26
i'm like a dense type of forest over
00:37:28
here
00:37:30
i did already use these which are kind
00:37:31
of like a pine tree
00:37:33
so maybe i should continue using this
00:37:41
it's interesting if you start
00:37:42
researching or looking at you know the
00:37:44
world
00:37:46
typically you'll see a lot of a lot of
00:37:48
green on the side of mountains because
00:37:49
they'll get a lot of
00:37:52
water they uh
00:37:55
they fall off and kind of naturally
00:37:58
inform you as to what they would be
00:38:02
doing
00:38:04
wonder draft yes we are using one to
00:38:05
draft today well not the whole day we're
00:38:07
just warming up in it
00:38:11
we'll switch into zbrush here if that's
00:38:12
what people are interested in
00:38:20
i'm happy to hang out in wonder draft
00:38:22
which is what we're playing around
00:38:23
and just kind of a fun program
00:38:31
here we go get some smaller ones out
00:38:32
there as it kind of trickles around
00:38:35
some of these little trees i want to get
00:38:37
some like i would use these trees over
00:38:39
here which was kind of fun
00:38:40
[Music]
00:38:42
to me feels like it's like a special
00:38:44
location
00:38:46
how much do you stray away from nature
00:38:48
laws when drawing a map
00:38:50
um to be honest like i do
00:38:53
inform myself based on it but i don't
00:38:58
i kind of just do whatever feels right
00:39:06
palm tree one oh there's cactus
00:39:08
[Music]
00:39:09
i look like a cactus does it
00:39:14
check right in there
00:39:31
[Music]
00:39:32
let's see is noman opposed to
00:39:36
students creating its own discord or
00:39:38
facebook group or is encouraged to use
00:39:39
an official one from the class
00:39:41
instructor
00:39:42
uh that's up to you guys i mean i think
00:39:43
it's for me it's something that
00:39:45
it's whatever works for you right so if
00:39:47
that's
00:39:48
if that's you creating a discord you and
00:39:52
your class you and your friends that's
00:39:53
totally fine in my opinion
00:39:55
i mean if the teacher has one i think
00:39:57
there's no reason to not use that one as
00:39:59
well
00:40:00
you know i think that's kind of would be
00:40:02
smart
00:40:03
right to be able to engage with them in
00:40:05
that way uh but if
00:40:07
if you're wanting to create your own i
00:40:08
don't think that there's really anything
00:40:10
that should
00:40:11
that should stop you from doing that
00:40:18
[Music]
00:40:23
oops
00:40:29
all right and what was i going to do oh
00:40:31
that's right i was going to do a couple
00:40:33
smaller mountain ranges as it kind of
00:40:36
trickles off
00:40:38
maybe it's more of these like these
00:40:41
types how does this one look like when it's
00:40:43
big yeah this is more like a hill
00:40:55
there's a lot of blender groups that's
00:40:56
for sure i've definitely seen a lot of
00:40:58
letter groups up there
00:41:04
linda has a really incredible community
00:41:06
though so
00:41:09
i think that's cool
00:41:13
that it has such like a built-in you
00:41:15
know network and
00:41:21
it's a great place to learn
00:41:28
i see all these little things popping
00:41:30
like all the alpha sorting
00:41:32
it's kind of interesting
00:41:35
[Music]
00:41:37
all right so let's make some locations
00:41:39
and then we'll jump into zbrush here
00:41:40
after this
00:41:44
kind of enjoying enjoying
00:41:47
placing these little mountains and
00:41:48
making this little world
00:42:09
all right we're gonna save this usually
00:42:12
take a second uh so regions you can use this this will
00:42:15
like
00:42:16
create like actual regions like if you
00:42:17
want to like map out part of the world
00:42:20
uh but labels is something you can do
00:42:21
and you can just click
00:42:23
like we'll name this town i already have
00:42:25
a name for this town and this town is
00:42:26
called crossroads
00:42:29
crossroads
00:42:33
that's what you can do
00:42:40
should be able to select it yes
00:42:45
we'll zoom in we'll enhance enhance
00:42:49
and uh i believe if i click this
00:42:52
yeah you can rotate it move it spin it
00:42:56
right uh some default stuff but they
00:42:58
also have some like preset names
00:43:00
so there's bodies of waters and there's
00:43:01
settlements um
00:43:04
which is kind of cool you just delete it
00:43:06
just deletes it
00:43:07
so we can make another one here
00:43:10
uh it'll automatically do a generator
00:43:12
too so you can click this and
00:43:15
this little mario question mark to give
00:43:18
you random names which is kind of cool
00:43:22
and that'll also depend on if you choose
00:43:24
citytown or water so
00:43:26
town is smaller city right so change the
00:43:29
size of that
00:43:30
water changes entirely and then if you
00:43:32
hit this it also
00:43:34
changes that but you can choose the
00:43:37
fonts which are kind of cool so there's
00:43:39
like
00:43:40
we'll go to city and we'll choose
00:43:43
like um
00:43:49
settlements
00:43:52
figure out what we want our font to look
00:43:54
like i kind of want to just be
00:43:56
black or white
00:44:01
we'll make it a little bigger for now
00:44:02
we'll just press 60 so we can all see it
00:44:04
maybe 80 so we can all see it
00:44:11
and we'll say do we want it to be this
00:44:13
is aladdin
00:44:14
this is barlow bilbo that's
00:44:18
obviously very tolkienesque
00:44:21
which could have like no outline you can
00:44:23
remove the outline and just say like we
00:44:24
want to be black
00:44:26
right
00:44:30
but to be able to preview it i kind of
00:44:32
want to see what their options are
00:44:35
since el east c ooh that's like a very
00:44:40
handwritten one
00:44:44
that definitely looks like somebody hand
00:44:45
wrote this one i like that
00:44:47
it's kind of cool
00:44:50
it's like if you're doing a like a paper
00:44:52
map it's like a child wrote that map i
00:44:54
dig that
00:44:55
um frederick the great
00:44:59
frederica that's cool
00:45:07
that's kind of cool too another one that
00:45:08
would look really good on like a paper
00:45:09
preset
00:45:10
because again there's all these okay get
00:45:12
out of here there's all these presets
00:45:14
uh themes so if i go to like paper which
00:45:16
all this colors we're going to compete
00:45:18
with but that's kind of a nice
00:45:21
uh look to it
00:45:26
overall that actually looks not great
00:45:27
but up close it looks pretty good
00:45:31
uh does noman offer a student discount
00:45:33
on software like zbrush i don't believe
00:45:35
so
00:45:36
um but there is a free version of zbrush
00:45:40
that you can play with called
00:45:41
zbrush core mini that i would recommend
00:45:43
if you've never played with it
00:45:45
definitely check that out let's see what
00:45:48
else we got here
00:45:50
we'll put on turn that outline back on
00:45:53
gentlemen gentium book okay very classic
00:45:59
got it
00:46:06
lance a lot
00:46:10
so they have some nice fun fonts that
00:46:11
are very the thing that
00:46:13
this is obviously not a vast a program
00:46:16
with a ton of stuff this is wonder draft
00:46:18
what we're playing in
00:46:19
it doesn't have like a ton of options
00:46:20
for you but it does give you like a very
00:46:22
specific
00:46:23
group so i kind of want to just use this
00:46:25
bilbo one
00:46:27
i know this this was going to be
00:46:29
crossroads that's what this place is
00:46:30
called
00:46:36
so here you can do the
00:46:39
the uh ye old curvature
00:46:44
so maybe a little bit of curvature there
00:46:49
and i might just make this a little
00:46:51
smaller for this one
00:46:52
[Music]
00:46:54
what's the size of the bigger cities
00:46:56
bigger cities gonna be and i gotta
00:46:58
figure out what that's gonna be and i'm
00:46:59
gonna put that like
00:47:01
here maybe
00:47:11
see how legible it really is we could
00:47:14
probably use some work but we'll go
00:47:16
we'll run with it for now like what i
00:47:18
think is awesome is that you can come
00:47:19
over here
00:47:20
right finally go back to my theme i'm on
00:47:22
the wrong scene
00:47:26
there we go so come over here we'll just
00:47:29
delete this
00:47:30
and make a new one we'll change the
00:47:33
settlement body of water and we'll
00:47:35
change this to water and then we'll just
00:47:38
click one
00:47:40
it's like this is the autumn expanse or
00:47:43
the
00:47:44
permafrost expanse there's a lot of
00:47:46
expanses
00:47:47
the mossy pond secret abyss the yellow
00:47:51
golf
00:47:53
strange ocean eerie basin the lesser
00:47:56
bayou oh i like that name i don't think i
00:47:58
should go here but maybe down here
00:48:02
let's make another one
00:48:06
feared waters oh yeah that's like here
00:48:08
for sure
00:48:13
the methyl ocean sure
00:48:17
this can be the methyl lotion i don't
00:48:19
know if i like that actually
00:48:22
tragic lake oh yeah every
00:48:26
good story has a tragic lake
00:48:32
get over here thing
00:48:58
tragic league should definitely be up
00:49:00
here
00:49:04
it's kind of a fun thing to just make it
00:49:05
nice and easy
00:49:08
really good for world building the
00:49:09
narrow lagoon right
00:49:11
because there's this narrow little pass
00:49:12
here
00:49:14
maybe these should be swapped well i
00:49:17
guess the lake is a contained body of
00:49:19
water
00:49:24
so that can go there
00:49:33
dirty golf bottomless whirlpool dead
00:49:36
depths
00:49:37
boom
00:49:42
i just know well whatever
00:49:47
the wizard void the peaceful cove you
00:49:49
know there's all kinds of fun stuff in
00:49:56
here
00:50:02
and then we'll pick uh let's pick let's
00:50:04
do a name let's do a
00:50:05
city and create that
00:50:09
city had doing bilbo
00:50:14
with no outline i think it was a 60
00:50:17
with black
00:50:23
and white settlements
00:50:27
snowberry oh it's like it knew
00:50:34
lickin horn oh i like that let's keep
00:50:36
that one
00:50:37
all right so you could do this on the
00:50:38
whole thing obviously
00:50:41
um just kind of a fun thing to
00:50:44
uh create presets so i could have
00:50:47
saved or made a preset i guess say like
00:50:50
my pounds
00:50:51
big cities
00:51:01
just what this is
00:51:02
[Music]
00:51:05
we'll figure this out eventually all
00:51:07
right we have been hanging out in this
00:51:09
for a little longer than i expected but
00:51:10
i've been having some fun so we're going
00:51:12
to unsafe
00:51:13
we've got a little bit of our uh world
00:51:17
that we're creating here i should make
00:51:20
one big one over here though right
00:51:24
i wish i could have like evil place
00:51:31
what did it choose for this 60
00:51:36
mana horn that's almost like the
00:51:38
matterhorn
00:51:45
[Music]
00:51:52
i think that says vulcan wind or alken
00:51:56
[Music]
00:52:02
wind
00:52:10
we'll pick one of these at random one
00:52:13
two three four
00:52:14
five nope one two three four
00:52:18
shiver drum some of these are obviously
00:52:21
very
00:52:22
um
00:52:26
obviously taken from tolkien or other
00:52:29
things like that
00:52:30
the bantam shire that feels like
00:52:33
this area
00:52:38
uh this is wonder draft which is what
00:52:40
we've been playing around in
00:52:43
all right so now that we've kind of been
00:52:45
exploring some places and having fun in
00:52:47
wonder draft we actually are going to
00:52:49
jump into zbrush and start sculpting
00:52:51
uh so what we're going to do is i'm
00:52:52
going to do what i did last time to kind
00:52:54
of make a random character because i i
00:52:56
like having a random prompt we could
00:52:58
obviously say you know we're going to
00:52:59
make a character
00:53:00
from bantam shire or something like that
00:53:04
but it makes it a little easier for me
00:53:07
to um to do it from
00:53:11
from a random thing here so we're going
00:53:12
to build a character
00:53:14
i'm going to hide this i'm going to show
00:53:17
this this is d beyond if you've never
00:53:20
seen
00:53:21
this before it is a little hard to see
00:53:23
so i'm going to actually hide myself
00:53:25
for you all so hopefully it'll make me a
00:53:27
little just a tad bit
00:53:28
larger or a tad bit larger uh
00:53:31
and we're gonna also open up another tab
00:53:33
and we're gonna do a
00:53:36
dice roller now if you guys
00:53:40
not guys the drive roller dice
00:53:43
roller uh they have them on google has
00:53:45
one built in which is cool
00:53:47
um if you've never done this before i'd
00:53:49
recommend uh doing this because it is
00:53:51
kind of a fun thing to to give yourself
00:53:53
a very random prompt
00:53:55
right to say like you know this is the
00:53:58
type of character i'm making
00:53:59
so i turn all this stuff off i just say
00:54:01
like blank
00:54:03
and now we're gonna start with our
00:54:04
abilities if you haven't seen us do this
00:54:06
the past couple weeks
00:54:07
we're gonna roll 4d6
00:54:11
remove the lowest number we're going to
00:54:13
put that in the left one
00:54:15
we're going to do that
00:54:22
so we're going to just go left to right
00:54:24
so we have a 12
00:54:26
we have a 10. oh
00:54:30
it's very informative we have a 7
00:54:32
unconstitution
00:54:34
but our intelligence is a 16.
00:54:38
just
00:54:43
our wisdom is 15.
00:54:49
so this is a sickly smart person
00:54:53
10 is the average in case you weren't
00:54:54
aware so we're going to go into
00:54:56
race if i go to this and i choose the
00:54:58
player's handbook there is 10 races here
00:55:01
so what i do is i remove all these and i
00:55:03
just roll a detend
00:55:06
seven one two three four five six
00:55:09
seven halfling okay
00:55:13
okay uh we haven't done a halfling
00:55:16
before i'm gonna roll a d4
00:55:18
odd is gonna be the top even i guess
00:55:21
even
00:55:22
evens odds than even so it would have
00:55:24
been this one
00:55:27
there we go
00:55:31
and i would say we've done this before
00:55:34
um there's only one class that benefits
00:55:37
from intelligence they think we could do
00:55:38
a cleric or something like that
00:55:40
there's 12 classes if you remove the
00:55:41
artist's facer and the blood hunter
00:55:43
so i roll this 12 is what i would get
00:55:46
which is a wizard
00:55:47
so we are making a halfling wizard today
00:55:50
you can make all this stuff if you want
00:55:52
i always like doing it because it's
00:55:53
relatively quick
00:55:56
i'm going to go to description there are
00:55:58
54
00:56:00
of these backgrounds what i do is
00:56:01
there's there's another dice roller
00:56:03
right here from wizards of the coast
00:56:05
i roll a d177 i try to get something
00:56:08
under
00:56:09
54 so 21 is what i got on that
00:56:12
and i just count my way down one two
00:56:14
three
00:56:17
10 is cloistered 11 12 13
00:56:21
14 15 16 17 18 19
00:56:25
20 21 folk hero
00:56:28
so this is a folk hero wizard
00:56:31
halfling i don't need we'll just say
00:56:35
like they like
00:56:36
to alchemist
00:56:40
equipment this is just simple stuff if
00:56:41
you want to pick one
00:56:44
i like picking some of these because it
00:56:45
gives us a nice starting point for what
00:56:48
our equipment will actually be
00:56:49
so i'm going to choose wizard quarter
00:56:51
staff
00:56:53
there is five four real options here so
00:56:56
we'll just pick the fourth one
00:56:59
so this person uses a staff
00:57:02
scholar sure and sure
00:57:07
so we have all this which is already now
00:57:09
selected for us so we can go into our
00:57:11
character sheet
00:57:15
our character at level one has four hit
00:57:16
points because he has a negative two
00:57:18
modifier
00:57:19
to constitution which is pretty garbage
00:57:22
this character will die
00:57:23
very quickly if it were to be played
00:57:25
which i think is actually hilarious
00:57:26
though
00:57:27
so uh we are making a character oh and
00:57:30
we need to go in here
00:57:31
and edit our character and uh go back to
00:57:33
that dice roller
00:57:39
roll it d6
00:57:42
three so i go into my race our
00:57:45
name now and i can randomize and hit
00:57:47
three times one
00:57:49
two three yobricks swift whistle
00:57:53
is our character's name
00:57:57
so let's go ahead and jump into zbrush
00:57:58
now and let's make
00:58:01
yobrix swift whistle
00:58:04
the halfling
00:58:07
wizard
00:58:11
so i'm going to load up my
00:58:17
base mesh that i've been using in the
00:58:18
past couple of times
00:58:25
so i'm going to lit up my uh
00:58:28
where is it there it is
00:58:32
this character here in case you guys
00:58:34
hadn't seen before into the
00:58:36
previous streams uh what we had been
00:58:38
doing was
00:58:39
making two other characters we made this
00:58:41
character which was our half
00:58:42
orc rogue i believe he was a noble
00:58:49
what i recall and then we also made
00:58:53
uh this character here which was our
00:58:58
halfling swashbuckler bard
00:59:03
last week william defoe
00:59:06
a lot of william coming in there
00:59:09
this is his charm holster
00:59:14
so today we're going to make a halfling
00:59:16
which we need to keep in scale right
00:59:17
happens only about yet tall so that's
00:59:19
something we're going to do
00:59:20
or at least keep in mind
00:59:26
what i'm going to do to begin is i'm
00:59:27
just going to start stretching and
00:59:29
making some
00:59:30
head shapes here now halflings are very
00:59:32
different proportions so
00:59:34
uh the first thing i always do is i get
00:59:36
some groups set up
00:59:38
polygroups so that it's easier for me to
00:59:40
kind of define
00:59:42
the areas that i'm going to be working
00:59:44
on
00:59:52
and then very likely we will actually
00:59:54
end up using
00:59:57
a head bass head
01:00:02
to uh define the to start with that
01:00:06
all right so now we have this what we
01:00:07
can do is we'll just use the old
01:00:10
action lines here and we're going to
01:00:11
squash this person in half
01:00:14
that's the easiest way to get that out
01:00:15
of done and i'm going to go straight
01:00:17
from the middle and we're going to
01:00:18
squash them a little bit i don't want to
01:00:19
go crazy
01:00:20
right but i can mask these elements off
01:00:23
and soften some of that
01:00:31
i get this proportion feel a little more
01:00:36
fling or hop it if you don't know what a
01:00:38
halfling is it's essentially a hobbit
01:00:49
now this is a we had again why do i like
01:00:52
i know it's you know some people aren't
01:00:54
role play fans or i've never done that
01:00:55
so it's kind of a little confusing to
01:00:56
them
01:00:57
the reason i like using that is because
01:01:00
it gives us
01:01:01
very key pieces of information for our
01:01:04
prompt
01:01:05
knowing that this is an intelligent
01:01:06
person who's actually somewhat strong
01:01:09
but
01:01:10
somewhat fast somewhat perceptive very
01:01:14
oops weak
01:01:17
constitutionally means something in
01:01:20
there is a really key defining trait
01:01:23
some other things we can do is we can go
01:01:24
into our description
01:01:26
so under descriptions i'll edit this
01:01:28
character
01:01:29
so we can do because we did this on the
01:01:30
previous ones i want to edit that in a
01:01:33
separate window
01:01:37
okay we'll just do the dice roller again
01:01:41
because we can also get some more
01:01:42
information for this character
01:01:44
by um description
01:01:48
suggested things here so we can roll
01:01:51
these and they'll give us random things
01:01:53
we need to roll a d8
01:01:56
twice one eight and a four
01:01:59
so this character has a song strong
01:02:01
sense of fair play
01:02:03
and always trying to tries to find the
01:02:04
most equitable solution to arguments i
01:02:07
like that but they also get bored easily when am i
01:02:10
going to get on with my destiny i dig
01:02:12
that and then these all are sixes so i
01:02:14
just roll 4d6 at the top
01:02:15
and whenever one's on the left i start
01:02:17
here so a two a two
01:02:20
and a three which when we collapse this
01:02:23
you'll see them all here
01:02:26
so their ideals is fairness no one
01:02:28
should get preferential treatment
01:02:30
their bond is that they worked the land
01:02:32
they loved the land
01:02:34
they will protect the land and flaws as
01:02:36
the people who knew me when i was young
01:02:38
know a shameful secret and they can
01:02:39
never go home again so this person has
01:02:41
like a little bit of a depth to them
01:02:42
with now
01:02:43
with given what we kind of know about
01:02:45
them and so since we have that
01:02:47
i'll pull it off to the side i kind of
01:02:49
keep this as sort of part of my
01:02:51
reference and we can uh
01:02:55
use that as character inspiration
01:03:02
i get the head size to be a little more
01:03:04
accurate you know assuming a character
01:03:06
is yea tall here
01:03:09
right it's obviously way too big
01:03:13
but as in form
01:03:16
some of our proportions halflings tend
01:03:19
to be
01:03:21
kind of bigger heads
01:03:27
not not too big like i had it
01:03:37
not so stocky that they feel like a
01:03:39
dwarf which is something i want to fix
01:03:42
see if this person's supposed to be kind
01:03:44
of sickly so
01:03:45
that's going to be a challenge is to
01:03:47
break some of that
01:04:11
at this point i do like to start getting
01:04:12
into a pose
01:04:14
what i'm going to do i bring those
01:04:16
shoulders in even a little bit further
01:04:26
so how do we you know i don't think that
01:04:28
they should be leading with their chests
01:04:29
which is kind of if you look at these
01:04:30
other two characters we did like
01:04:32
reading with their chest reading with
01:04:34
their hips
01:04:38
right
01:04:40
and then same over here hips forward
01:04:44
hands on hips or the pose
01:04:49
and these two this character
01:04:53
should absolutely not be doing that
01:04:55
right they should not be doing kind of
01:04:56
the same pose and some of that's built
01:04:57
in
01:04:58
to the uh to the base mesh but we're
01:05:00
gonna adjust that
01:05:10
so we're going to push all this back
01:05:11
hide this mask that
01:05:15
so maybe this is kind of like a more of
01:05:17
a
01:05:19
sunken now just because they have a low
01:05:22
constitution doesn't necessarily have
01:05:24
strength so it's
01:05:25
maybe there's something different about
01:05:28
this person
01:05:31
yobricks is their name
01:05:35
making them weaker
01:05:54
[Music]
01:06:04
[Music]
01:06:16
mm-hmm
01:06:18
turning make sure my perspective is on
01:06:32
these arms down i don't love sculpting
01:06:36
in t poses if i don't have to even a poses
01:06:46
[Music]
01:06:58
oh
01:07:12
oh
01:07:16
trying to get as much of the character
01:07:17
out of the basement as i possibly can
01:07:28
[Music]
01:07:32
they are the role-playing games really
01:07:33
can be a great inspiration for art
01:07:36
um and you see so many people doing fan
01:07:38
art of their own characters or their
01:07:40
parties or
01:07:41
uh a gnomon we had a there was a
01:07:45
star wars cop game that was being played
01:07:48
and
01:07:49
one of the one of the players
01:07:53
was drawing the key moments from the
01:07:55
game every game like what was the most
01:07:58
you know memorable section of the game
01:08:01
and they would draw that every week
01:08:07
i was running a game for a while and i
01:08:09
was actually writing
01:08:10
so i would write like a a chapter of a
01:08:14
book
01:08:15
essentially of each session
01:08:18
that's what happened there's like a
01:08:19
recap which was fun it's just a great
01:08:21
inspiration for all types of art
01:08:23
it really really is
01:08:30
so we can do what i like to do which is
01:08:33
when i uh subdivide this character i
01:08:34
don't like to
01:08:38
uh smooth so i'm going to turn that off
01:08:40
i'm going to hit this twice
01:08:42
and i'll smooth again what this does is
01:08:44
it gives me a very blocky person but
01:08:46
it's also bumped up the
01:08:47
the holy count significantly
01:08:51
and so what i can do now is just start
01:08:53
working from that and it makes it a
01:08:55
little simpler
01:08:58
and what i like to do here is just kind
01:09:00
of get some of those
01:09:02
initial planes of the face planes of the
01:09:05
body and uh use it as a as a
01:09:08
tool to begin
01:09:12
the foundation stuff for later
01:09:21
[Music]
01:09:29
[Music]
01:09:44
just getting these anatomical landmarks
01:09:46
in
01:09:48
it's not a you know very muscular
01:09:50
character whereas the previous two were
01:09:52
so
01:09:53
i'm not attempting to make them muscular
01:09:55
but
01:09:56
i'm starting kind of with the muscles
01:09:58
and so something that
01:09:59
sometimes one of the things i find that
01:10:01
can be a little bit of a challenge when
01:10:02
you're making a character is
01:10:04
you know you want to start with anatomy
01:10:06
but they're not a muscular character so
01:10:08
how do you start with just muscles
01:10:12
muscles in bone and um
01:10:16
not make them a bodybuilder right when
01:10:19
especially when
01:10:20
the majority of the references that
01:10:22
you're going to find are going to be
01:10:24
bodybuilder reference anatomy reference
01:10:26
which is typically life drawing models
01:10:27
who are fit
01:10:28
right so it's kind of a challenge
01:10:33
this is a a
01:10:37
base mesh that is from an old modeling
01:10:39
program called silo
01:10:41
silo is a modeling program probably from
01:10:43
01:10:45
which doesn't really get used anymore
01:10:48
and so
01:10:51
uh one of their like just like in maya
01:10:54
you know or 3ds max you have like a cube
01:10:57
and you have
01:10:58
a um sphere and a cylinder and all that
01:11:01
and a teapot
01:11:02
they had a base man like this
01:11:06
which is kind of this look
01:11:10
i would imagine i have never i haven't
01:11:12
searched for it in a long time
01:11:14
but i would imagine that you could find
01:11:16
it online by just searching like
01:11:18
silo modeling program base mesh maybe
01:11:21
maybe you'll get lucky
01:11:23
i haven't tried though i got it i got
01:11:25
about 15 10 12 years ago and i just kind
01:11:28
of
01:11:29
found it and it's one that i really like
01:11:30
using
01:11:32
you can use any base mesh anything that
01:11:34
works for you i just like
01:11:36
it's also not a terribly complex base
01:11:38
mesh for modeling so if you want to make
01:11:40
one
01:11:41
it's a pretty easy one to make
01:11:43
[Music]
01:11:45
or to sculpt and then re-top okay
01:11:50
we'll get some of this stuff in and
01:11:52
we're not going to go crazy on the
01:11:53
anatomy on this guy
01:12:03
make human is another defunct program
01:12:06
for base meshes
01:12:12
i think probably just gonna focus on
01:12:14
this bust today
01:12:21
[Music]
01:12:29
i'm gonna give like a little bigger ears
01:13:16
so
01:13:25
[Music]
01:13:37
[Music]
01:13:38
go and pull out a nose i really like
01:13:42
actually sculpting the most of you guys
01:13:43
have seen this before from these planes
01:13:45
in the head
01:13:46
this is my favorite thing to sculpt from
01:13:49
but um i'm gonna try it on this today
01:13:53
[Music]
01:13:56
saying you start from a sphere for
01:13:58
almost everything
01:13:59
you don't know you don't think that's
01:14:01
the most efficient way sometimes just
01:14:02
started zbrush about a month ago
01:14:04
uh it it can in yes and no
01:14:08
i would say it's probably not the most
01:14:09
efficient thing uh the challenge of
01:14:12
starting with a
01:14:13
sphere every time is you have to create
01:14:15
the base forms
01:14:16
every single time from the very
01:14:18
beginning right this is a
01:14:20
this is a crafted sphere is what i would
01:14:22
call this like this is
01:14:23
just an elegant sphere at least the head
01:14:26
uh
01:14:27
the body is obviously not if you start
01:14:29
from something
01:14:30
like one of these you go into light
01:14:32
spotlight light box which
01:14:34
i think it's called headplanes one of
01:14:36
these these are really good for starting
01:14:38
like this
01:14:39
um i'm gonna save because why not
01:14:44
[Music]
01:14:48
these are really good to to be starting
01:14:51
from base meshes are always really nice
01:14:53
to start from
01:14:54
especially if you want to explore
01:14:55
something in a
01:14:57
form that you already know that you need
01:14:59
that you want to get to what i mean by
01:15:01
that is
01:15:02
uh you know that you are going to sculpt
01:15:03
a human you are going to sculpt a
01:15:06
humanoid alien with two arms and two
01:15:08
legs right
01:15:11
yes you can obviously sculpt from
01:15:12
scratch and there's nothing
01:15:14
there's genuinely nothing wrong with
01:15:15
that the challenge is
01:15:19
the more time that you spend building up
01:15:21
the
01:15:22
form the just the base form meaning i'm
01:15:24
making the arm and making the legs
01:15:26
uh you are not sculpting
01:15:29
the actual design that you want right
01:15:32
that's kind of part of the problem there
01:15:34
when you sculpt with a base mesh the
01:15:37
opposite happens is
01:15:38
is that you have all this stuff there
01:15:40
but sometimes you get locked too much
01:15:42
into the proportions there that are
01:15:44
there right you're not
01:15:46
you're not given the complete freedom
01:15:47
that a spear has
01:15:49
so i think when you're beginning try
01:15:51
both methods there are other base
01:15:53
measures inside of here not just
01:15:55
in this one but there's also the demo
01:15:57
soldier
01:15:58
which is one that i don't love uh
01:16:01
the demo soldier there should be
01:16:06
the mannequin is okay demo projects
01:16:09
let's see what we got in here
01:16:10
super average mail is okay
01:16:17
that seems to be the main ones that are
01:16:19
in here now so
01:16:20
check those out let's see if there's
01:16:22
anything up
01:16:24
tools sometimes in z tools
01:16:28
yeah z tool there's demo soldier there's
01:16:30
another super average man here
01:16:32
there's a uh nick
01:16:36
z human guy is pretty decent
01:16:40
so play around with those for your base
01:16:43
meshes that are already inside zbrush
01:16:47
but what's going with a base mesh you
01:16:49
don't have complete freedom
01:16:50
right you don't have the the entire
01:16:54
the ability to add a subdivision level
01:16:57
here uh you don't have the ability to
01:16:59
just start sculpting
01:17:03
and on something but you also can do any
01:17:05
proportion any shape
01:17:06
and often i find that some of my best
01:17:09
sculpts
01:17:10
are done when i'm using a sphere and
01:17:13
that's because i'm often
01:17:15
not caring about you know what we're
01:17:17
making
01:17:19
you know i'm not caring about how i'm
01:17:21
making it but it starting maybe in one
01:17:23
section finding something that works for
01:17:25
me and going from there i'm gonna do is i'm
01:17:28
gonna start making some more eyeballs
01:17:29
first
01:17:34
just going to sculpt eyeballs into this
01:17:37
form
01:17:43
a little formless on the side i'm
01:17:44
looking at even though i can see
01:17:47
this side i'm actually looking at this
01:17:50
side when i sculpt
01:17:51
uh and that's because i i want to see
01:17:54
the the silhouette
01:17:55
right so when i say it's formless what
01:17:56
i'm saying is from a profile or from a
01:17:59
perspective view
01:18:01
there's not a lot of you know
01:18:04
variation in the form so that's
01:18:07
something i might want to look at doing
01:18:18
nice thing that goes with animating
01:18:19
basic stuff like walks or
01:18:21
runs or loops yeah exactly
01:18:25
having something to build on is nice
01:18:27
it's always going to be a
01:18:28
fast almost always going to be a faster
01:18:30
way to make something
01:18:31
there's no i don't know if there's
01:18:34
really much debate about that right like
01:18:35
starting with a pre-made human and
01:18:37
sculpting
01:18:38
a costume on them is easier and simpler
01:18:40
and faster
01:18:42
than um hoping if
01:18:46
from scratch with nothing same with
01:18:48
painting right starting with a photo and
01:18:50
painting on top or
01:18:52
or collage is is likely going to be
01:18:54
easier than painting that same thing
01:18:56
from from just paint strokes so
01:19:00
just kind of think of it that way
01:19:03
you're starting from a zbrush is easy to
01:19:05
equate to
01:19:06
traditional sculpting right so think of
01:19:09
it like
01:19:11
if you're starting from a sphere every
01:19:12
time you're just starting from a block
01:19:13
of clay
01:19:15
if you're starting from a base mesh
01:19:16
you're starting from an armature
01:19:18
with proportions play on it but you can
01:19:22
adjust but yes it's still it's it's something
01:19:25
that's already got a pretty
01:19:27
heavy foundation within it just kind of
01:19:29
think of it that way
01:19:30
it's not bad it's not worse it's
01:19:33
efficient is different but it's not
01:19:34
always
01:19:36
always about efficiency especially if
01:19:38
you're just starting
01:19:54
[Music]
01:19:59
i don't want them to have like crazy
01:20:01
especially because i made this dude it
01:20:02
was like incredibly um
01:20:06
defined cheekbones
01:20:09
right this does this dude
01:20:12
[Music]
01:20:14
i kind of want somebody who's a little
01:20:15
rounder and a little softer
01:20:18
in the party
01:20:32
there's no sucker for a mustache so
01:20:34
every time i do this accidental large
01:20:36
stroke i'm like hmm
01:20:40
[Music]
01:20:42
there are no happy accidents
01:20:48
we use what we're given
01:21:10
look like mario luigi
01:21:17
did this
01:21:26
you kind of like this little lip shape
01:21:28
though so i'm going to try to
01:21:30
play with that
01:21:42
[Music]
01:21:52
so i like using the damian standard
01:21:54
brush just kind of adds like a carving
01:21:55
brush
01:21:56
uh sometimes you can use it like what
01:21:58
i'm doing right now so this was the base
01:21:59
form
01:22:00
and so just carving in like maybe what
01:22:02
maybe what the ankle could be like
01:22:04
seeing what it could be like
01:22:07
maybe adjusting some shapes afterwards
01:22:10
say is this the shape that i want yes or
01:22:12
no
01:22:14
okay we'll continue
01:22:31
like i said i'm kind of enjoying doing
01:22:33
something with some rounder shapes
01:22:34
because a lot of the times
01:22:36
things that we do are not like that
01:23:04
hmm
01:23:07
at this point sometimes once i start to
01:23:09
get a face i like to see a little bit
01:23:10
more of the body
01:23:15
does that just feel like a kid
01:23:19
i feel like a halfling let's get some of
01:23:21
these
01:23:23
taller dudes in here for scale
01:23:36
[Music]
01:23:40
this game would be like yay big
01:23:50
[Music]
01:24:00
oh
01:24:14
is
01:24:21
sculpting kind of from a distance
01:24:22
because i want to
01:24:26
i was saying earlier you know respect
01:24:27
kind of the
01:24:32
try to get these features in
01:24:39
i need some eyebrows
01:24:44
[Music]
01:25:07
[Music]
01:25:12
[Music]
01:25:32
so kind of like that but i'm gonna pass
01:25:35
on it for now
01:25:42
[Music]
01:25:44
i've mostly made this feel like a child
01:25:47
which is not intentional
01:25:51
some ways it is right it said i wanted
01:25:53
rounder shapes
01:25:56
[Music]
01:25:59
uh do i use this antique it seems like
01:26:01
all pros use one no
01:26:03
i don't i use a tablet i think you'd
01:26:05
actually be shocked at the amount of
01:26:06
people that use tablets
01:26:08
uh because it's a lot there is a heavy
01:26:11
amount of users that do use
01:26:14
cintiqs uh but there's a lot of people
01:26:18
a lot of people that i know uh will use
01:26:22
[Music]
01:26:24
uh tablets
01:26:25
[Music]
01:26:31
here so maybe we'll find this a little
01:26:34
bit
01:26:36
a little character
01:27:22
[Music]
01:27:30
foreign
01:27:53
i don't really like the eyes that i've
01:27:55
sculpted here so i'm gonna try to get
01:27:58
some
01:28:00
little more attention in here
01:28:22
[Music]
01:28:40
do
01:28:47
[Music]
01:28:54
so the mesh that i actually have doesn't
01:28:57
have
01:28:58
enough resolution to really to really
01:29:01
push some of these shapes without going a
01:29:03
little higher
01:29:04
so what i do is i just start sculpting
01:29:07
uh with
01:29:08
the damian standard brush in reverse to
01:29:11
try to really push
01:29:14
as much as i possibly can
01:29:21
with both of the other ones that you see
01:29:23
in the background i actually ended up
01:29:24
sculpting
01:29:25
both of those using
01:29:29
the planes of the head and then using
01:29:32
certain elements of that to be
01:29:35
dynamesh so like the head was dynamesh
01:29:37
and the rest of it was separate
01:29:40
that's what i'm doing a little differently and i'm sculpting just the
01:29:44
whole thing in one mesh which is all one
01:29:46
single thing
01:29:48
with its own challenges but it also has
01:29:50
its own advantages i want these eyes to
01:29:52
be a little bigger though
01:30:00
i'm gonna make a mask that i can kind of
01:30:02
fade in now when i scale them at first
01:30:07
it's going to do that
01:30:08
which is that's what we don't want
01:30:13
so what's going to happen is what you
01:30:15
see is it starts pushing them outward
01:30:18
if you turn on this l sim which is local
01:30:21
symmetry right here
01:30:22
it'll move from the center of the pivot
01:30:25
now obviously that's going to create our
01:30:26
own issues you can see on the right here
01:30:28
it's creating some problems
01:30:30
uh the center actual line is is getting
01:30:33
blurred
01:30:34
so i'm going to try to go a little bit
01:30:37
here
01:30:38
and then it means that the eyes are
01:30:40
going to have to kind of go outward a
01:30:46
little
01:30:49
and knowing that the character is going
01:30:50
to be you know yay tall
01:30:52
the eyes being bigger uh will help quite
01:30:55
a bit
01:30:57
[Music]
01:30:59
they read better
01:31:06
[Music]
01:31:18
of course now i need to blend all that
01:31:20
in meaning
01:31:21
i changed a pretty key feature of the
01:31:25
face
01:31:26
[Music]
01:31:29
i need to make it work
01:31:47
[Music]
01:32:10
me
01:32:28
[Music]
01:32:38
brexit i'm just gonna add a little bit
01:32:42
of texture of the whole thing
01:32:44
uh i said this before but one of the
01:32:46
things i like doing
01:32:48
with the texture or why i just kind of
01:32:50
i'm going over the whole surface just
01:32:51
kind of like
01:32:52
this this which is very soft
01:32:56
with the clay buildup brush the reason i
01:32:59
like doing that
01:33:00
is because it breaks up just some of the
01:33:03
the smoothness there was a
01:33:04
question earlier in the stream or a
01:33:06
comment earlier in the stream
01:33:08
about you know feeling like uh you know
01:33:13
always struggling to make everything
01:33:15
feel smooth and i think that they were
01:33:16
sculpting a helmet
01:33:17
mark one from what i recall but
01:33:21
one of the things that i struggle with
01:33:23
or did especially
01:33:24
this is kind of why i do this now is to
01:33:26
to help myself
01:33:28
but when i was starting sculpting i
01:33:30
really struggled a lot with
01:33:33
making sure that every form or feeling
01:33:34
like every form i sculpted had to be
01:33:36
perfect
01:33:40
it doesn't have to be so what i do now
01:33:42
is i kind of will once i get to a point
01:33:44
where i'm
01:33:45
feeling not stuck but i'm feeling like
01:33:47
i'm not entirely sure of where to go
01:33:50
uh i'll take this and sometimes i'll
01:33:52
just turn down the intensity too
01:33:54
like i just did and just kind of cover
01:33:57
the whole surface because it gives it
01:33:58
this nice little texture in this pattern
01:34:00
and it makes it in some ways it makes it
01:34:01
feel more like clay
01:34:03
in some ways it makes it feel just more
01:34:05
traditional but it definitely breaks up
01:34:07
the monotony of the overall surface
01:34:10
being perfectly cg and perfectly you know all
01:34:13
these highlights that you see
01:34:14
especially like in the areas where i
01:34:16
haven't sculpted like this are so
01:34:18
perfect and machined that it's
01:34:20
impossible for that to be
01:34:22
hand sculpted right it's not impossible
01:34:25
but
01:34:26
it'd be very difficult and so what this
01:34:29
does and adding this little bit of
01:34:30
texture that i like to put in here
01:34:32
uh does is it gives it a little bit of a
01:34:34
pattern
01:34:35
that breaks away from that and it also
01:34:37
gives you as an artist
01:34:39
you know we were joking about it earlier
01:34:40
when i was messing around in wonder
01:34:41
draft
01:34:42
but happy little accidents happy little
01:34:44
mistakes like searching for a happy
01:34:46
accident
01:34:47
uh it gives you lots more information to
01:34:50
do that with
01:34:51
you know where can i put a wrinkle where
01:34:53
can i create a form where can i
01:34:56
uh what can what can i emphasize to make
01:34:58
this more interesting
01:35:06
so now that i've kind of done that
01:35:08
you'll see what i have is is there's a
01:35:10
lot of these little marks
01:35:11
like all these little marks all over the
01:35:13
face so now i can use those
01:35:14
so i can say like maybe there is a
01:35:18
maybe there's some sort of a design on
01:35:20
them right i can use this
01:35:22
line and i can you know it's a design or
01:35:25
is it a you know for doing
01:35:28
robotics and hard surface stuff right
01:35:30
this could be a form
01:35:39
right and then i can start using others
01:35:42
within here to start defining that as
01:35:54
well
01:36:13
i went a little heavy on the
01:36:17
menstruation but i kind of like some of
01:36:18
the shapes that it's been creating
01:36:42
[Music]
01:36:50
me
01:36:55
[Music]
01:37:08
[Music]
01:37:17
one of the downsides of using the whole
01:37:20
mesh
01:37:21
right is what i've been doing before is
01:37:23
i have been sculpting
01:37:26
eyes right it's a little harder for me
01:37:29
to do now
01:37:30
i can sculpt it in but i'll have to
01:37:31
really up the level
01:37:34
of the subdivisions be able to be able
01:37:37
to get that or i'm gonna have to split
01:37:39
the head off entirely which is kind of
01:37:40
what i already did here
01:37:46
still not loving this pose
01:37:50
[Music]
01:38:03
i almost kind of liked the idea of this
01:38:05
little
01:38:13
removing the idea of being a half
01:38:14
language sort of that little astro boy
01:38:16
type
01:38:26
i'm kind of getting into this
01:38:36
just take a little diversion and see
01:38:38
what we can make
01:39:09
[Music]
01:39:27
[Music]
01:39:53
you
01:40:20
so
01:41:02
so
01:41:05
yeah i'm kind of wanting to take this
01:41:06
just in a different direction
01:41:11
i started to like where this was going
01:41:14
it wasn't necessarily
01:41:15
fitting and the prompt is just kind of
01:41:19
a way for you to get in the zone
01:41:26
i want to see where this goes
01:41:40
so this is most certainly going to
01:41:42
diverge
01:41:44
from what we started off as
01:41:45
[Music]
01:41:48
that's okay
01:42:00
[Music]
01:42:09
[Music]
01:42:12
i also realize i misread the question
01:42:14
earlier it says
01:42:15
why don't you use this antique uh the
01:42:17
reason i don't use this antique
01:42:18
is because the screen gets really hot
01:42:22
i think it's really hot and that kind of
01:42:24
uh
01:42:26
is not my favorite thing to use or
01:42:28
because because of that
01:42:30
and then
01:42:33
the body position that you have to be in
01:42:35
for a lengthy time
01:42:36
it's just a little less comfortable for
01:42:40
me
01:42:54
uh
01:43:02
[Music]
01:43:08
so
01:43:19
[Music]
01:43:36
do
01:44:04
oh
01:44:08
[Music]
01:44:18
oh
01:44:25
[Music]
01:44:51
[Music]
01:45:00
um
01:45:14
oh
01:45:18
what i'm thinking is i want to kind of
01:45:19
bring in some more gestural forms i
01:45:21
don't mind actually this like
01:45:23
sort of shape i don't like this right i
01:45:26
don't know if i love this but i'm kind
01:45:27
of okay maybe bringing in
01:45:31
that's not super you know thin
01:45:38
something about it that i was liking
01:45:44
[Music]
01:45:50
i want to do
01:45:58
i don't know something that's more like
01:46:02
open to something like a wall rather
01:46:04
than like a free freestanding character
01:46:22
okay so let's fix some of this
01:46:36
let's make this let's get into the pose
01:46:38
a little bit i kind of like
01:46:40
the idea of this being
01:46:44
it's just something like this
01:46:46
[Music]
01:46:49
this will help a gun
01:46:59
[Music]
01:47:06
so
01:47:11
[Music]
01:47:18
[Music]
01:47:20
so
01:47:26
[Music]
01:47:34
six
01:47:48
i
01:47:49
[Music]
01:47:59
[Music]
01:48:05
[Music]
01:48:16
um um
01:50:03
[Music]
01:50:22
sculpture
01:50:27
[Music]
01:51:18
so
01:51:28
losing a lot of those forms in the face
01:51:30
though from this angle
01:52:13
[Music]
01:52:35
[Music]
01:52:56
so
01:53:24
uh
01:53:35
[Music]
01:53:47
anybody's got any questions while i'm
01:53:49
working on stuff or what i'm doing i'm
01:53:50
kind of just
01:53:51
free-forming at this point and seeing
01:53:53
what comes out of this because i was
01:53:54
kind of enjoying
01:53:56
the direction that this was going and i
01:53:58
wanted to try to pull it into something
01:54:00
a little different
01:54:02
so i'm gonna see where it goes
01:54:21
[Music]
01:54:34
uh no reference i mean i probably should
01:54:38
right at this point or around this point
01:54:40
i should figure out
01:54:41
i mean to be honest i'm still really
01:54:43
trying to figure out exactly what i'm
01:54:44
doing
01:54:46
um there's elements of that i'm liking
01:54:49
and so i'm trying to
01:54:51
to take those
01:54:54
and keep them right i'm trying to say
01:54:56
like okay what is that i like
01:54:59
i keep that if possible what is but what
01:55:01
is it and really trying to figure out
01:55:02
what it is is it the shape of the head
01:55:04
is it the body is it the pose is it the
01:55:07
gesture what is it that i'm liking
01:55:22
what i am liking is kind of the the
01:55:24
large
01:55:27
forms in the face that are creating some
01:55:29
gesture i'm a big fan of of lines that
01:55:31
won't like i'll do it like right now
01:55:32
this is actually probably what i should
01:55:33
have done is
01:55:34
create a bold mark right so i have
01:55:37
a line like this with something that i'm
01:55:39
seeing
01:55:41
in the face i want to do that i want to
01:55:44
replicate that through the body and so
01:55:46
that's what some what you're seeing here
01:55:48
so
01:55:55
i'm going to come in with like a little
01:55:57
a little more intensity on this brush
01:56:26
so
01:56:40
so
01:57:08
c
01:57:11
[Music]
01:57:22
foreign
01:57:24
[Music]
01:57:35
i'm getting into like sort of a fairy
01:57:38
planned look
01:58:11
[Music]
01:58:46
foreign
01:59:27
and in this way it's actually different
01:59:29
than the ways that i was working before
01:59:31
uh i'm working off of one location this
01:59:34
is kind of countered
01:59:35
a lot of the streams that i've done
01:59:36
before where i would start
01:59:38
in you know the base mesh get the pose
01:59:41
and work my way up that's kind of for
01:59:43
the past two how we've been doing it
01:59:45
this is actually almost exactly the
01:59:47
opposite of
01:59:48
i found something i liked here
01:59:52
and i've been starting to work on that
01:59:56
and then after working on that i'm
01:59:59
working my way out
02:00:00
from outwards from that
02:00:16
[Music]
02:00:39
so
02:00:53
and so all those little you know
02:00:55
adjustments i was making earlier some of
02:00:57
them i'm going to keep most of them i
02:00:58
probably won't
02:01:34
foreign
02:02:30
do
02:02:44
so
02:03:10
i guess in case anybody's joining now
02:03:12
it's kind of secure what we've been
02:03:13
doing
02:03:14
uh we started with a different character
02:03:16
which is actually this character and so
02:03:18
we were exploring
02:03:20
uh this this is based off of one of the
02:03:22
random generators we've done before
02:03:24
and then now i kind of pushed
02:03:27
a little bit of a different direction
02:03:28
and kind of been exploring uh just
02:03:30
somewhere
02:03:31
i guess a more feminine version but also
02:03:33
a just kind of an entirely different
02:03:35
character here so
02:03:37
um was starting to dig some of the stuff
02:03:39
that was happening and just taking it
02:03:41
another direction
02:03:42
before that we had also been playing
02:03:43
around in wonder draft which is a map
02:03:46
making program
02:03:47
uh which is pretty fun uh if you're
02:03:49
interested in playing around with that
02:03:51
it's it's a cool program that lets you make
02:03:53
this stuff um
02:03:54
relatively easily so i definitely
02:03:56
recommend checking it out
02:04:07
now what i want to do is actually want
02:04:08
to start adding some elements to this
02:04:10
that break the silhouette so if i turn off
02:04:13
painting on this
02:04:15
and i hit v you'll see that the
02:04:16
silhouette is pretty bare at this point
02:04:18
right it's just standard standard human
02:04:22
humanoid and so i want to break that up
02:04:24
by adding some either some design
02:04:26
elements or something that's going to
02:04:28
kind of bring a little bit more life to
02:04:29
it so i can either
02:04:31
start pulling pieces off right and then
02:04:32
we can do
02:04:34
it as part of the costume like i kind of
02:04:36
like what that was doing
02:04:37
[Music]
02:04:40
that was just that to create that
02:04:43
right so before
02:04:46
after
02:04:50
now maybe we use that as a as a starting
02:04:53
point [Music]
02:04:55
i mask this and i already have some
02:04:56
lines drawn out so what i can use
02:04:58
so i can continue to use those lines
02:05:00
maybe and we'll say that that's like the
02:05:03
starting point for maybe where some of
02:05:04
this is going to go
02:05:06
at this point we can also look into
02:05:10
color as an option as well
02:05:25
[Music]
02:05:32
so
02:05:41
[Music]
02:05:46
um
02:06:00
uh
02:06:18
[Music]
02:06:29
[Music]
02:06:35
[Music]
02:06:45
[Music]
02:07:09
using some of those little things that
02:07:10
i've been doing i'm going to pull some
02:07:12
of these shapes out so like
02:07:14
we're going to sculpt this roughly but
02:07:16
we'll get a pretty good idea i kind of
02:07:18
you know we talked about it's almost
02:07:20
getting getting into like a little bit
02:07:22
of a plant
02:07:24
looking like a fairy into me that kind
02:07:25
of is getting into like plant
02:07:28
if you're using plants as part of their
02:07:29
costume
02:07:33
these are um you know this could be like
02:07:36
a little headdress
02:07:44
made from something plant-like right
02:07:59
[Music]
02:08:05
[Music]
02:08:11
[Music]
02:08:21
[Music]
02:08:27
[Music]
02:09:04
the this is the main area i've really
02:09:06
focused on so some of this is starting
02:09:08
to work for me there's still some really
02:09:09
odd posture things that i need to fix
02:09:11
especially from the profile which is
02:09:13
looking very strange
02:09:26
[Music]
02:09:47
there's also element of it is like right
02:09:49
now i've kind of sort of gone for this
02:09:50
very
02:09:52
like rhythmic like you know this kind of
02:09:54
a shape
02:09:55
where it's like it's doing this worth
02:10:01
and basically by just doing this you can
02:10:03
even just do
02:10:04
what i'm doing now in and out and in and
02:10:06
out right
02:10:07
you can start to get some designs and
02:10:09
you just kind of keep
02:10:10
elements of that right and you say
02:10:14
you know there's your character right
02:10:16
it's it's a
02:10:18
pretty straightforward idea um
02:10:22
there's something about this angle that
02:10:25
is creating sort of a
02:10:26
slightly off element to it
02:10:29
right and i think that that's what could
02:10:31
be really interesting
02:10:33
is that little bit of difference
02:10:36
right that little bit of like
02:10:39
something just slightly being different
02:10:42
um
02:10:44
not working a hundred percent maybe
02:10:47
that's what i want to bring in is like
02:10:48
this sort of jaggedness to it
02:10:50
occasionally and so
02:10:51
uh that's what i'm trying to figure out
02:10:54
how i can bring it in
02:10:55
the questioning that says uh from twitch
02:10:58
is saying do you usually sculpt it
02:10:59
closed
02:11:00
right on the model rather than on a
02:11:01
separate layer uh no it really depends
02:11:04
for something like i'm doing today where
02:11:06
i'm just exploring yeah
02:11:08
i'll just sculpt them right on the model
02:11:12
uh if i'm doing it for you know a game
02:11:14
or something different
02:11:15
i would want to make it as a separate
02:11:16
piece and that's kind of what we've done
02:11:18
on these characters here so previous
02:11:19
characters
02:11:20
um you know these guys have like
02:11:25
all these are little different pieces
02:11:26
that can go on and can come off
02:11:28
so this is a head is a separate piece
02:11:29
and the body is a separate piece and
02:11:32
the belt and the pants and everything
02:11:34
individually
02:11:36
are separate pieces
02:11:39
with this one right so you have
02:11:43
the head you have the body
02:11:47
ants you have every every bit the hair
02:11:50
the hat the vest
02:11:53
the sleeves the undershirt
02:11:57
all this stuff is on separate layers
02:12:06
for this because i'm just exploring
02:12:30
[Music]
02:12:37
[Music]
02:12:48
[Music]
02:12:52
what i'm doing now is i'm going to push
02:12:53
it until it really breaks
02:12:55
so what i'm going to do is i'm going to
02:12:57
save before i push everything around

by hitting a point where it's okay it's
02:13:02
some of it's working so it's not working

02:17:53
what is the key factor i got a question
02:17:55
from youtube what is the key factor in
02:17:57
designing a realistic
02:17:59
3d character sculpt
02:18:04
uh that's a really hard question um i
02:18:06
don't think there's one specific key
02:18:08
factor but i think it's
02:18:09
it's really just the same as if you're
02:18:10
designing in 2d
02:18:12
uh having an understanding of the design
02:18:15
of what you're wanting to make
02:18:18
[Music]
02:18:21
having an ideal a form and design and
02:18:23
rhythm and balance and
02:18:25
you know just kind of it just kind of
02:18:27
comes down to saying
02:18:28
[Music]
02:18:30
how do you make a good design first
02:18:32
right whether it's 3d or 2d
02:18:34
it doesn't really matter uh it's it's
02:18:37
about
02:18:39
finding something that works just in
02:18:40
general so understanding
02:18:43
appealing shapes being able to find
02:18:45
things that are
02:18:47
you know that are cool that are
02:18:50
appealing that you like
02:18:52
that other people seem to like is it a
02:18:54
key element of that
02:18:56
but it's it's not so much about being in
02:19:04
3d
02:19:10
i think this could almost be like petals
02:19:15
[Music]
02:19:17
a rose or flower
02:19:32
this is still looking very very human
02:19:34
and i think that might be okay i mean
02:19:36
there's a lot of things
02:19:38
this is clearly like kind of being
02:19:40
inspired by so
02:19:47
maybe this is all flower petals and
02:19:51
this character is actually quite small
02:19:53
or maybe the place they live this stuff
02:19:55
is huge right
02:20:00
it could be an option
02:20:08
[Music]
02:20:14
[Music]
02:20:25
[Music]
02:20:28
so
02:21:34
uh are we expecting any talks or
02:21:36
presentations by naughty dog focusing on
02:21:38
the technical side of their latest
02:21:40
release the last of us part two i'm not
02:21:42
sure if this question should be made
02:21:43
here
02:21:44
uh i assume you're asking about if there
02:21:46
will be an event by naughty dog
02:21:49
uh we have been asking them to do an
02:21:51
event but i know they've been very busy
02:21:53
so maybe at some point we'll get a
02:21:55
naughty dog event
02:22:20
so
02:23:41
i'm not so sure about the rest of the
02:23:43
body so probably will hide all this for
02:23:45
today
02:23:47
even the hands
02:23:56
let's just do this
02:24:04
looking at this posture that i don't
02:24:05
love from the profile
02:24:08
i was trying not to do something where
02:24:10
you know you kind of do this
02:24:14
from this bus perspective it's going to
02:24:17
feel a lot better
02:24:24
i mean
02:24:41
we're gonna do is we will just go like
02:24:43
this
02:24:45
press it up as high as we can
02:25:07
split this apart
02:25:10
didn't really do exactly what i wanted
02:25:17
okay clip it
02:25:35
i'm going to duplicate this one
02:25:40
[Music]
02:25:45
i don't know i see
02:26:10
oops
02:26:13
well there's something there i think it
02:26:15
needs another pass and probably a fresh
02:26:17
set of eyes i think i'm kind of at the
02:26:18
point now with this where it's kind of
02:26:20
like you know i've got i've got this right
02:26:23
and i know i would probably want to
02:26:25
develop it a little further i think it
02:26:27
does look better with
02:26:29
this included probably somewhere in here
02:26:34
something down here so the selection
02:26:37
makes more sense but something like this
02:26:38
feels like it's
02:26:39
kind of what's working the most um
02:26:44
still a lot of issues that i would want
02:26:46
to work out i think the face is kind of
02:26:48
just a little too generic
02:26:52
like i want to i want to add
02:26:55
something to this that makes it feel
02:26:59
and just changing the nose is definitely
02:27:02
doable
02:27:03
right like we can change it to make it
02:27:05
do something like that
02:27:07
we can
02:27:10
for some reason just just removing a
02:27:12
nose or completely changing a nose
02:27:14
i can give you a lot of freedom
02:27:24
so i think if we even just started with
02:27:42
this
02:28:07
i don't know
02:29:19
[Music]
02:29:27
[Music]
02:29:35
[Music]
02:29:48
hmm
02:29:52
[Music]
02:30:02
[Music]
02:30:13
[Music]
02:30:15
i do go back every now and then and look
02:30:18
for reference like this is kind of a
02:30:19
point where i was saying it's like
02:30:20
it feels like i need something
02:30:24
to i think i've got elements in here
02:30:28
that i like right i'm just but at this point i'm
02:30:30
really just noodling
02:30:32
to be honest so it's kind of like i need
02:30:34
to go back in
02:30:37
and find some reference
02:30:40
[Music]
02:30:41
or i need to find some photos or i need
02:30:44
to
02:30:46
a little bit of inspiration or just
02:30:49
something i need to find something
02:30:50
that's gonna make this
02:30:52
better uh me sitting here and noodling
02:30:55
for
02:30:56
you know another hour two three four
02:30:59
five hours i'll probably
02:31:00
find something that i like right i'll
02:31:02
probably find something that's
02:31:03
interesting or i'll find something
02:31:04
that's
02:31:05
um effective
02:31:09
but it might not be as unique it might
02:31:12
not be as cool
02:31:14
right it might not be you know
02:31:18
i can sit here and spin and try to find
02:31:21
things all day long
02:31:25
but is it gonna be
02:31:28
what it needs to be and the answer is i
02:31:30
don't know so
02:31:31
that's kind of where it's like you know
02:31:33
we kind of got this what's turned into
02:31:34
sort of this
02:31:37
asia fairy sort of thing so i would
02:31:41
maybe go and look for some inspiration
02:31:43
off of that
02:31:46
see how it looks
02:31:50
or say you know i don't i want to pull
02:31:52
away from
02:31:53
from x of this i'm not i'm not liking
02:31:56
this about it
02:31:57
you know how can i how can i change that
02:32:00
part
02:32:01
and that's also another thing you can do
02:32:03
with references is to help you
02:32:05
move away from something as well
02:32:12
[Music]
02:32:20
as we fall in love
02:32:28
[Music]
02:32:31
i think the challenging thing like uh
02:32:34
pro
02:32:35
4210 just said in twitch is it's just
02:32:38
kind of fun to do this so it's hard
02:32:40
sometimes to come in and be like oh like
02:32:43
i want to go look for reference or i
02:32:44
want to make that want to
02:32:46
do that because i am enjoying
02:32:49
just kind of sketching
02:32:52
it's not like i'm especially looking for
02:32:54
something specific
02:32:57
you know from where i was here to where
02:32:59
i was here
02:33:01
before we did all that like oh i'll save
02:33:04
a new version it'll be easier
02:33:26
that's what we started with before that
02:33:31
so you know we did a decent change on
02:33:34
the face here and i think that this
02:33:35
overall looks
02:33:37
looks better
02:33:41
this feels just like a human and i think
02:33:43
we're getting into some more interesting
02:33:44
things which is cool
02:33:46
so i like that
02:33:53
now i might go like we had talked about
02:33:55
some plants i might go research some
02:33:57
plants
02:33:58
i might see maybe what other
02:34:00
inspirations we could bring
02:34:02
into this like i was for some reason i
02:34:04
was remembering the movie
02:34:06
james and the giant peach and like the
02:34:08
bugs and the spiders and stuff that were
02:34:10
in that
02:34:11
maybe there's an element of that but
02:34:12
this could be brought into so that it
02:34:14
could also be bringing in some insect
02:34:16
reference which could be
02:34:17
nice right um
02:34:20
[Music]
02:34:23
we could research
02:34:30
a lot of different stuff you know
02:34:31
there's so many different things you can
02:34:33
start looking into
02:34:37
for me those are the initial things i
02:34:38
could start going aquatic with it and
02:34:40
say maybe there's some
02:34:41
is there like if this person lives in an
02:34:44
aquatic region is there something that
02:34:49
i could look at that would give me sort
02:34:51
of an aquatic feeling
02:34:53
underwater plants underwater animals
02:34:57
you know if i want to be like oh you
02:34:58
know there's
02:35:00
there's gills like that's easy right
02:35:02
there you go
02:35:03
she lives underwater but uh that's not
02:35:05
really
02:35:07
thoughtful right now i'm kind of at the
02:35:09
point where i need to put a little thought into it i think
02:35:11
we're probably gonna wrap this up in
02:35:12
just a minute
02:35:14
we might jump back into our map
02:35:41
[Music]
02:35:52
sessions
02:36:31
[Music]
02:36:48
hey
02:37:16
so
02:37:22
i would love to see how i work through
02:37:24
that creative process
02:37:25
uh yeah we could do that in another
02:37:27
stream maybe i mean maybe that's what
02:37:28
we'll do for the next stream with this
02:37:30
character
02:37:31
uh or another character we've got a
02:37:32
bunch that we've kind of stocked up at
02:37:34
this point
02:37:35
um to just kind of go through and and
02:37:38
see
02:37:39
what we could do right i have some ideas
02:37:42
like
02:37:43
for a game this might fit into i've
02:37:46
wanted to
02:37:49
something with spiders for something for
02:37:50
a while so maybe this could be like a
02:37:54
spider queen and you know
02:37:57
we could start getting into like you
02:37:59
know
02:38:01
all that like because there's a lot of
02:38:02
really beautiful things that you can do
02:38:04
with webs right so we could really
02:38:06
play up that texture right the plants
02:38:10
that they're
02:38:11
attached to the structure of that
02:38:15
the repetition of that like we could get
02:38:17
into some of that
02:38:19
maybe that's a maybe that's something we
02:38:20
do for next stream
02:38:31
[Music]
02:38:42
[Music]
02:39:04
[Music]
02:39:15
of course thank you for coming
02:39:25
[Music]
02:40:03
[Music]
02:40:46
so
02:40:48
[Music]
02:41:42
hmm
02:41:57
[Music]
02:42:03
it looks like our bot just posted uh if
02:42:05
you guys have any questions about any of
02:42:07
our gnomon classes or
02:42:09
curriculums or programs or anything like
02:42:10
that feel free to fill out that paper
02:42:12
form
02:42:14
form you'll get in contact with our
02:42:15
admissions team they can help you
02:42:17
with anything anything regarding any of
02:42:20
those things so
02:42:21
feel free to chat with them they're
02:42:23
awesome so highly recommended
02:42:52
hmm
02:42:55
[Music]
02:43:01
[Music]
02:43:06
me
02:43:16
trying to get a little over detailed and
02:43:18
it's kind of hard to focus my eye around
02:43:20
certain parts of this right now because
02:43:21
it's kind of doing this
02:43:23
this effect that's kind of like this
02:43:29
maybe that's part of what the intent of
02:43:30
the character is so i might need to when
02:43:32
it comes to
02:43:33
color i need to really focus on that
02:43:35
meaning like
02:43:36
we'll just do a quick color paint job
02:43:38
here
02:43:40
we'll just use black and white so i'm
02:43:42
going to use like a really dark
02:43:43
gray uh which is gonna be almost black
02:43:47
for you guys so i'm gonna go like this
02:43:48
color here
02:43:50
and we'll say like let's maybe just fill
02:43:52
the whole thing
02:43:54
[Music]
02:43:56
so i might need to focus or find a way
02:43:59
to focus
02:44:04
the face so you
02:44:07
just doesn't need to be just in value it
02:44:10
can be and this is working
02:44:11
right if it's a really effective way to
02:44:13
do this
02:44:15
uh but when you have a lot of stuff
02:44:18
going on in your design
02:44:20
you can rely on other elements of design
02:44:22
that are not just
02:44:23
you know the lines and the shapes and
02:44:25
all that uh if you want to push those
02:44:27
back a little bit more
02:44:28
you can take them in
02:44:33
focus with contrast or color
02:44:39
this way we're getting sort of that
02:44:40
queen amidala look
02:45:06
[Music]
02:45:13
i'm going to continue that we could
02:45:14
maybe i'll just
02:45:17
fill this with this color
02:45:19
[Music]
02:45:24
i'll separate objects now because i
02:45:26
thought that would have been a good idea
02:45:36
[Music]
02:45:41
[Music]
02:45:50
a couple different ways right
02:46:02
[Music]
02:46:08
okay
02:46:14
[Music]
02:46:22
so
02:46:25
let's set you know plants and flowers
02:46:28
and this is definitely getting into more
02:46:29
like a
02:46:32
darker element and so maybe we bring in
02:46:46
there's these brilliant green
02:46:50
maybe brighter greens
02:46:55
[Music]
02:47:03
find ways to bring in a little bit of
02:47:05
color
02:47:09
first if we want to go even darker we
02:47:10
just go black like pure black
02:47:13
[Music]
02:47:15
and zbrush we're using a matte cap turns
02:47:17
to absolutely nothing so it's going to
02:47:19
look a little odd
02:47:20
but it is an option that we have
02:47:24
i kind of like starting with this which
02:47:26
is just having
02:47:27
you know the basics done what i'll do
02:47:31
at this point is
02:47:37
this all into
02:47:44
kind of digging this direction a little
02:47:54
[Music]
02:48:04
uh we are using zbrush today
02:48:25
[Music]
02:48:52
and sometimes what i'll do is i actually
02:48:54
just start treating the
02:48:55
model at a certain point i could add
02:48:57
some more subdivisions
02:48:58
but i'll start treating the model almost
02:49:01
just as a
02:49:02
drawing on it at a certain point so i'll
02:49:04
start sketching in
02:49:06
you know as you can see here there's
02:49:08
there's stuff to support some of this
02:49:09
but it's not all there so i could come
02:49:11
in and say
02:49:12
you know maybe there's like a little
02:49:13
thing
02:49:17
right and just treat it as is just
02:49:22
a white color in there
02:49:30
you can treat it as you're just drawing
02:49:32
on it at that point first time i saw
02:49:40
somebody do that i was really
02:49:42
shocked i was like why would you just
02:49:43
draw on it you could just sculpt it
02:49:45
uh and then it kind of was like oh like
02:49:47
i see i see the value in it now because
02:49:49
it's a lot faster
02:49:50
a lot faster
02:50:20
so
02:50:34
so
02:50:42
this might look like nipples and they're
02:50:46
not intending to be
02:50:51
there we go
02:51:05
the eyes are still sculpted you find
02:51:06
that when you make them separate tools
02:51:08
easier it's early it's easier to get the
02:51:11
eyelids right
02:51:12
yes i that's the thing that i i do
02:51:14
sometimes as well is i'll separate them
02:51:17
put some spheres in there and then wrap
02:51:18
the eyelids around them
02:51:20
uh it's a good way to like you're saying
02:51:22
to make sure that they're spherical
02:51:24
right because that eyes are
02:51:28
mostly spherical uh and then especially
02:51:31
if you're going to animate it's a really
02:51:32
good idea to do that early
02:51:34
but i'm doing this kind of stuff
02:51:35
sometimes i find that that creates a
02:51:37
little bit of a problem for me where i'm trying to
02:51:41
spend so much time move the eyes get
02:51:44
them get them set up and then resculpt
02:51:46
the shape and really what i'm looking
02:51:47
for is kind of like the overall
02:51:50
graphic look right that rather than
02:51:54
what i have now
02:52:13
[Music]
02:52:17
i'm using a wacom intuos5
02:52:29
[Music]
02:52:36
now the rest of the body that i have is
02:52:40
not going to look as good
02:52:42
right because i only focus on the head
02:52:44
so we've talked about this a couple of
02:52:46
times but like
02:52:47
the difference between starting in one
02:52:50
place and that we're working the whole
02:52:52
character right in this stream we only
02:52:53
had about we had about two hours was the
02:52:55
previous streams we had about four
02:52:57
um what you'll see is i think that this
02:53:01
face is probably more well
02:53:04
well defined than these ones are a
02:53:07
little priest caller
02:53:15
i think overall design i think that this
02:53:18
one is probably getting a little closer
02:53:23
as compared to these ones which are the
02:53:25
ones we did
02:53:26
the previous streams right you can see
02:53:28
how just how early these all are
02:53:30
these we're getting the full character
02:53:32
right we're getting a full sense of the
02:53:33
character we're getting a general
02:53:35
idea of of who they are
02:53:38
right so we've got a whole character we
02:53:40
could print this out if we wanted to
02:53:41
we could you know do
02:53:45
present best to say this is the vibe of
02:53:46
the character uh
02:53:48
similar with this one right we can do
02:53:51
the same
02:53:52
this is the vibe of the character that
02:53:53
you're getting whereas this one if we're
02:53:55
to present this
02:53:57
we have this which we can present and
02:53:59
say this is kind of what we're thinking
02:54:00
for the face
02:54:01
for the tech for the general idea of the
02:54:04
character but we're not really able to
02:54:06
say like here's the whole body right now
02:54:08
because
02:54:09
because i spent a little bit more time
02:54:10
and just focused on one direction
02:54:12
now what that means i have to do is now
02:54:15
i have to take the body and i have to
02:54:16
spend all this other time
02:54:19
matching what i have right both in a
02:54:21
costume element-wise
02:54:23
uh for costumes for general proportions
02:54:26
for for all of that so there's there's
02:54:29
this is sort of a
02:54:30
you know not really a debate but it's
02:54:31
just kind of a difference of style
02:54:33
right so if you want to be somebody who
02:54:35
focuses on
02:54:37
um a whole character that's great
02:54:40
you know i think that there's benefits
02:54:41
to that i wish i did the whole character
02:54:44
so i had this one
02:54:45
as is because i'm kind of liking the
02:54:47
direction that it's going uh but now i
02:54:49
have a pretty clear idea of where it
02:54:50
should go or where it could go
02:54:51
so um yeah kind of different
02:54:54
different ways of working for sure um
02:54:57
but yeah definitely a big difference
02:54:59
from what we were doing
02:55:00
i'm gonna save this
02:55:06
like we were kind of at
02:55:10
here for a while
02:55:14
so we went from this
02:55:25
to this
02:55:29
scopes themselves are not vastly
02:55:32
different there's a lot more detail and
02:55:33
there's a lot more
02:55:35
thought as far as what certain things
02:55:36
are doing uh but it sort of started to
02:55:39
all tie together once the
02:55:41
uh paintwork came in
02:55:44
got a question from twitch saying
02:55:46
question about eyes in general i noticed
02:55:48
there are a few
02:55:49
artists that rotate the eyes slightly
02:55:51
outwards and i was wondering is that
02:55:53
based on actual anatomy information or do you
02:55:55
think it's just an aesthetic choice
02:55:58
um i have seen it done both ways
02:56:01
and i've seen that the eyes are slightly
02:56:04
you know working
02:56:05
in games and stuff i've seen that most
02:56:07
of the time we do angle the eyes very
02:56:09
very slightly outward
02:56:11
and that's because sometimes when
02:56:12
they're just looking straight ahead
02:56:15
uh it looks a little strange especially
02:56:17
in a game or something where something
02:56:19
gets close to the
02:56:20
something cross their eyes it'll look a
02:56:22
little odd
02:56:24
um so i think it's easy
02:56:27
well i think it's based a little bit on
02:56:32
um anatomy but mostly on visual
02:56:39
i think i would like just paint a little
02:56:41
bit of a white glaze
02:57:12
in the chat we just got posted but we
02:57:14
have an event coming up this friday we
02:57:16
have a
02:57:17
virtual info session with our guest
02:57:20
alumni speaker omar awaita
02:57:22
um which would be awesome so please
02:57:24
check that out especially if you're
02:57:25
interested
02:57:26
in any of the nomen programs or classes
02:57:29
or anything if you're just generally
02:57:30
interested in nomad
02:57:31
check out the info session on friday and
02:57:34
any of our previous info sessions as
02:57:35
well because there's cool stuff about
02:57:37
noman and there's also really great
02:57:38
conversations with
02:57:39
uh guest artists so check that out uh
02:57:42
noman
02:57:43
nomad alumni omar awaita uh is an
02:57:46
awesome character artist who's
02:57:47
worked on some cool stuff like star
02:57:49
citizen i think he worked on new worlds
02:57:52
and i think he also worked on ghost of
02:57:53
tsushima
02:57:54
as a character artist and a lead
02:57:55
character artist so if you're interested
02:57:57
in character art like this if you're
02:57:58
interested in working in games
02:58:00
or you're interested in knowing check
02:58:02
out the info session this
02:58:04
uh friday definitely will be awesome
02:58:07
well
02:58:08
i'm gonna probably keep this up for a
02:58:10
little bit
02:58:11
and maybe uh jump into this for just a
02:58:14
short little bit was what we were
02:58:16
working on before
02:58:17
for a complete different change of pace
02:58:20
um we were kind of making our maps
02:58:22
before this is kind of a fun
02:58:24
cool down so
02:58:27
getting back into wonder draft
02:58:30
have a fun program
02:58:47
i do i do
02:59:11
if you guys have any questions while we
02:59:12
kind of wrap up the rest of the stream
02:59:14
please feel free to ask them
02:59:19
questions about process questions about
02:59:22
[Music]
02:59:26
anything
02:59:30
happy to help
02:59:41
[Music]
02:59:54
[Music]
02:59:59
how do you develop your art style that's
03:00:00
a really good question
03:00:03
it was funny somebody commented like
03:00:04
they could see art styles coming through
03:00:08
uh and i don't even know necessarily
03:00:10
what i would define my art style as
03:00:13
um so i think it's just kind of your
03:00:16
preferences over time
03:00:18
you know your shape choices your shape
03:00:20
language
03:00:22
um projects you work on
03:00:25
[Music]
03:00:28
i think it's just something you you have
03:00:29
to develop over time that's that's yours
03:00:32
right it is it is your style it's not
03:00:34
anybody else's style so
03:00:37
it's kind of important i think to know
03:00:39
or to think about that in that way of
03:00:41
you know don't worry about too much of
03:00:44
trying
03:00:45
to spend too much time to develop it if
03:00:47
you like a certain
03:00:48
person's work then by all means
03:00:51
try take that person's work and use it
03:00:53
as your example of what you want to
03:00:55
paint
03:00:58
you know like if or draw or sculpt or
03:01:00
whatever
03:01:04
that's a fine way to do it
03:01:07
you know if you want to paint like ryan
03:01:09
weiner ding or if you want to
03:01:11
paint like dave raposa or if you want to
03:01:13
paint like
03:01:15
you want to sculpt like whoever
03:01:18
right fatale or raphael garcetti or
03:01:21
or whoever um look at that person's work
03:01:25
and see what it is that makes it
03:01:28
be that and then
03:01:31
try to emulate it
03:01:36
am i a game designer no i'm not a game
03:01:38
designer
03:01:39
i'm just a person making a map right now
03:01:42
we were
03:01:43
in case you're just joining we were
03:01:44
doing some sculpting in zbrush and
03:01:46
kind of made this character and kind of
03:01:47
hitting a point where i feel like i'm
03:01:49
ready to go get some reference and come
03:01:50
back with
03:01:52
um come back with some
03:01:55
more inspiration and thought about where
03:01:57
i want to push it so i'm kind of at a
03:01:58
point with this one where i'm a little
03:01:59
stuck
03:02:00
but we're running out of time today so
03:02:04
let's go back to making a map
03:02:19
[Music]
03:02:28
so
03:02:31
interested to see how many artists play
03:02:32
role playing games i think he'd be
03:02:33
shocked there's quite a bit
03:02:46
the map and the character what relation
03:02:48
between them exactly
03:02:50
see we'd have to figure that out
03:02:55
knowing that we created a
03:02:58
they could go in one of the the four
03:03:01
general locations really
03:03:05
where they could be in a cave and a
03:03:09
[Music]
03:03:10
mountain
03:03:15
why is the mountain on the left
03:03:16
twitching whenever i paint a tree that's
03:03:17
a good question at this one's switching
03:03:19
i've seen a bunch of like this one and
03:03:20
this one i think that
03:03:22
the program is having alpha sorting
03:03:24
which basically is when
03:03:26
two things are sitting on top of each
03:03:27
other so it's probably just trying to
03:03:29
figure out exactly which one
03:03:30
is um you know
03:03:34
on top every time i place an object i
03:03:36
think it's
03:03:38
saving or it's trying to to decipher
03:03:40
like
03:03:41
where where the object i'm putting
03:03:45
is in the stack of things and so it's
03:03:47
constantly
03:03:49
doing that this is called wonder draft
03:04:19
we are just wrapping up our chain we got
03:04:21
five minutes left in our stream today
03:04:22
we're just kind of wrapping up
03:04:24
doing some fun little stuff here
03:04:39
[Music]
03:04:48
do
03:04:51
[Music]
03:05:02
jump
03:05:06
[Music]
03:05:16
[Music]
03:05:24
for concept art portfolio should one
03:05:25
separate illustration
03:05:27
pieces versus actual original concept
03:05:30
designs
03:05:31
or what should portfolios contain
03:05:34
um illustration pieces versus original
03:05:38
concept designs
03:05:39
um that's a tough one you know i think
03:05:41
if you're doing a really
03:05:42
if you're trying to do concept and you
03:05:44
have a a lot of illustration
03:05:47
it doesn't necessarily hurt to have that
03:05:49
in and i think
03:05:50
they're not always the same job right
03:05:53
sometimes they can
03:05:54
they can overlap right and that's
03:05:56
somewhat common
03:05:58
to have that happen um but i think what
03:06:01
you're
03:06:02
you're saying is like how do i
03:06:06
um [Music]
03:06:10
i might separate them i would probably
03:06:11
separate them i guess that's the short
03:06:13
answer of what i'm
03:06:14
getting at without rambling for too long
03:06:23
now this is wonder draft we're playing
03:06:25
in today
03:06:31
[Music]
03:06:40
wow
03:06:54
wow
03:07:14
[Music]
03:07:26
[Music]
03:07:33
[Music]
03:07:36
uh
03:07:39
[Music]
03:07:48
[Music]
03:07:50
uh
03:07:55
[Music]
03:08:04
healthy
03:08:18
huh
03:08:22
[Music]
03:08:24
sweeping off the side effects again
03:08:52
no we were using zbrush before
03:08:56
for this one
03:09:09
a sacrifice
03:09:28
hey
03:09:37
it seems you lost your train of thought
03:09:42
again
03:09:48
don't throw me away
03:10:16
all right everybody that's gonna be it
03:10:18
for the end of our stream
03:10:20
uh thank you everybody for joining and
03:10:22
tuning in uh
03:10:23
it's been a fun day so to kind of recap
03:10:26
what we did we ended up
03:10:27
starting on this for a while to kind of
03:10:29
warm up just kind of explore get into
03:10:31
the art headspace
03:10:32
uh this program was wonder draft if you
03:10:35
were wondering and then we also sculpted for a while
03:10:38
and ended up getting to this point
03:10:40
uh with our character we ended up taking
03:10:41
a a creative turn and
03:10:43
diverging from our original prompt but
03:10:45
kind of finding a
03:10:47
direction that we liked and ended up
03:10:48
getting to to this
03:10:50
so i'm happy with this and probably for
03:10:52
the next stream what we'll end up doing
03:10:54
is um i'll be getting some reference
03:10:58
off stream we'll come back and we'll try
03:11:01
to get the rest of the character which
03:11:02
is
03:11:03
not up to par uh to fit this and we'll
03:11:07
integrate some of that in the future
03:11:10
stream as well
03:11:11
cool i'm going to save this make sure
03:11:14
that this is good to go
03:11:17
i'm going to close it
03:11:20
and i'm gonna say see y'all later
03:11:22
everybody thanks again
03:11:24
and uh like like we said earlier we have
03:11:26
an event
03:11:27
tomorrow night or so tomorrow tomorrow
03:11:29
afternoon with uh omar awaita
03:11:31
so go ahead and check that out and if
03:11:33
you have any interest in connecting with
03:11:34
moment uh
03:11:36
fill out the form that we just posted in
03:11:37
the chat alright everyone see you later
03:11:39
these will be posted
03:11:40
on uh twitch and youtube so they'll be
03:11:44
uploaded there for later see
