At first glance, there is no big difference between a door and a table.

It is essentially the same resin-filled slab,

But there is one thing: the weight of such a billet is enormous,

and the table, unlike the door, rests on a pedestal,

bolted all around to a rigid, metal frame. This is important.

No matter how well and properly dried a large slab is,

it will still warp slightly in service,

as it is a living material, and for a door this is very crucial,

so I decided to use thermowood for our task.

What is it? Such wood is heated to a temperature of 150-240 °C,

in a water vapour environment, without access to oxygen.

As a result, thermo-modification of wood leads to a change in its structure,

making it inedible to pests and unable to absorb moisture,

as the moisture meter indicates.

As a result, the products do not warp, swell or shrink

under any external influences,

which in our case is ideal for door manufacture.

So, I've picked out a couple of suitable slabs from the warehouse,

the next step is to calibrate them,

After all, I'm making the door for myself, and it'll be in front of me every day in the workshop.

I've been calibrating for a while now with an CMT cutter with interchangeable blades.

After a few hours of calibration, I compared a couple of options,

and ended up settling on this slab.

Before cutting the billet to the size of the door, we decided to make a door frame

to have exact figures and for sure not to make a mistake.

It took us about 7 Valera-hours to do this, and now more about it.

First, we mark out the structural shape and cut it with a band saw.

In the end, we need to get the frame as rigid as possible,

with a structural shape width of 10 centimeters.

We achieved this width by joining two 5 centimeters shapes together.

The fact is that the door will be installed in the bathroom,

and it is separated by a rather decorative wall of narrow partition blocks,

So, we decided to distribute the entire load on the frame,

which, in turn, will be securely fixed to the floor and ceiling, but first things first.

On top of the door we decided to make a small ventilation grate.

When the first frame is welded, all that's left is to make exactly the same one,

and weld them together to get the coveted, sturdy, 10 cm wide frame.

The last step is to deburr the seams and drill holes for mounting.

Before painting, we scrape the entire thing,

We apply a release agent to the laminated plywood,

After that, we apply sealant all around the perimeter and press it with your finger.
