Description:
The poppy, jubilant “Ya Ya (Next to Me)” was about a girl from New Orleans whom I met in a laundromat on second Avenue in 1977. The late Judy Hill was the first girl in the big city who wanted anything to do with me. There are very few people I’ve written songs about upon simply meeting them. For the promo video for “Ya Ya”, The Flying Squirrels and I traveled to Woodstock/Bearsville. By the end of the afternoon we were set up in the middle of a field (courtesy of the late Albert Grossman) for a pantomime or two of the song. Producer Steve Burgh, a truly gifted guitarist, faked the sax solo, covering for David Sanborn (who played on the actual record). Since the sun was setting, we had to keep moving our equipment back about 15 yards at a time to catch the available daylight! This was rather comedic, but we did manage to get enough film to construct what you see here.
