Наибольший ущерб был нанесен Эрмитажу, который лишился лучших произведений мирового уровня. Этим проектом, который длился более десятилетия, большевики пытались бороться с голодом охватившим Россию в начале 1920х годов, получить валюту, которая требовалась для индустриализации, а также одержать политическую победу над церковью.
