00:00:00
you can see right here that it
00:00:03
has actually cracked the coil
00:00:14
hey y'all thanks for tuning back into
00:00:15
chicanic i hope everybody's having a
00:00:17
great week today we are going to go over
00:00:18
one of the most common problems i see
00:00:20
that customers bring into the shop
00:00:22
whenever they try to change out their
00:00:24
own plug and the way they're making
00:00:25
these plug boots anymore they're so
00:00:27
tight on the spark plugs that they go to
00:00:29
wrenching on them and if they pull
00:00:31
straight out they will pull that plug
00:00:33
boot straight off their ignition wire
00:00:35
and not know how to put it back on so
00:00:36
today we're going to go over how simple
00:00:38
it is to put it back together all by
00:00:40
yourself to save you time money and
00:00:42
frustration in the future
00:00:43
but before we get into today's video if
00:00:45
you're a fan of saving time money and
00:00:47
frustration while fixing your own small
00:00:49
engine equipment while watching in-depth
00:00:50
tutorials you've come to the right place
00:00:52
because that's what i do i upload a
00:00:54
couple times a week and if that sounds
00:00:56
interesting hit that like button smash
00:00:57
that subscribe hit the notification bell
00:00:59
and don't forget to leave a comment i
00:01:01
love to read through the comments and i
00:01:02
will respond to all the early commenters
00:01:05
alright so i got a hot mess of a trimmer
00:01:06
sitting here on my bench this thing has
00:01:09
been run through the ringer it is only
00:01:11
about a year old but the commercial
00:01:13
customer that uses it every single day
00:01:15
he wants to get it fixed because it's
00:01:17
one of his favorite trimmers so this is
00:01:19
a shindawa t262
00:01:22
and it has just been beaten up and it's
00:01:25
got a story all to itself it's got
00:01:27
broken shrouds broken flywheel broken
00:01:31
coils so while i'm changing this coil
00:01:34
out i received my oem coil but it does
00:01:37
not come with a boot on it so i thought
00:01:39
this would be a really good time to go
00:01:40
ahead and make a video dedicated to
00:01:42
putting a plug boot on because i said i
00:01:44
was gonna do it a long time ago didn't
00:01:46
get around to it and then after i show
00:01:48
how to put that plug boot on i'm gonna
00:01:50
put this whole thing together and uh
00:01:51
we're gonna see how good it runs all
00:01:53
right so the majority of the time when
00:01:55
you rip your plug boot off it's gonna
00:01:57
look something like this where you're
00:01:58
gonna have just a short little stub of
00:02:01
the ignition wire hanging out and that's
00:02:03
really not much to work with i mean you
00:02:06
can get it back together that way but a
00:02:08
lot of time it's it's not fun the
00:02:10
easiest thing to do is to remove some
00:02:12
shroud that's covering it it's real
00:02:14
simple to do usually and it'll give you
00:02:17
more of a line to be able to work with
00:02:19
rule number one do not cut on your
00:02:21
ignition wire we're just going to put it
00:02:23
back together and it's going to be fine
00:02:25
do not trim on it because this is the
00:02:27
perfect length for what application it
00:02:30
is used for so do not cut it do not make
00:02:32
it any shorter now yours is going to
00:02:34
already have a hole in the side of it
00:02:37
where your this little metal
00:02:40
piece went into it so we're going to
00:02:41
have to find out is the metal piece
00:02:43
still in it or is it in your boot if
00:02:45
it's in your boot you're going to have
00:02:46
to remove it
00:02:47
all right not going to lie this is not a
00:02:49
fun part sometimes it's stuck in there a
00:02:51
lot of times you'll have a large hole
00:02:53
here where it's easier to get out
00:02:54
sometimes it's real small like this one
00:02:56
this one has it poaching out the end
00:02:58
here so i'm gonna see i'm gonna try to
00:03:00
come back out the with the out of the
00:03:02
larger hole instead of going this way
00:03:04
because that spiral inside is sometimes
00:03:06
really tough to get through here so
00:03:08
first i'm going to go on the inside with
00:03:10
my needle nose see if i can grab it
00:03:14
i destroy this thing taking it apart
00:03:19
it does not want to come out that hole
00:03:22
so
00:03:25
we're going to try to go the other way
00:03:29
see if i can grab it oh yeah that stuck
00:03:32
it right back where it's supposed to be
00:03:34
but i gotta get it out of there
00:03:38
so
00:03:47
now you're all watching is she gonna
00:03:49
poke herself yeah
00:03:51
probably gonna poke myself
00:03:54
oh come on
00:03:56
we've got it now it's grabbing on the
00:03:58
inside sort of so
00:04:00
that sort of sucks there it is
00:04:03
now we got our needle nose
00:04:06
we're just gonna keep ah
00:04:08
success you just gotta dig it out of
00:04:10
there and it sucks but you can do it
00:04:14
all right so yours will already have a
00:04:16
hole
00:04:17
for this little metal piece to go in but
00:04:20
you might have to make a new hole
00:04:21
because sometimes it'll be wallered out
00:04:23
now i'm going to go ahead and make a new
00:04:25
hole in this new coil because i don't
00:04:28
have one in it to actually put in but
00:04:30
i've already taken my heat
00:04:32
barrier off i'm going to put that on
00:04:34
there also this little grommet that
00:04:36
needs to go on there
00:04:38
that way
00:04:39
do that then we're going to make a hole
00:04:41
now you want to go back as far as you
00:04:43
think you need to on here
00:04:45
so
00:04:46
i've got
00:04:48
it's going to need to be about that far
00:04:50
so i'm going to make a hole about right
00:04:51
there
00:04:53
so i find something pointy
00:04:56
go right down the center of it
00:04:59
and make a new hole
00:05:03
and hopefully you won't have to make a
00:05:05
hole on yours but now there is a special
00:05:08
tool for this i don't have one i just
00:05:11
like to use the double fix all right
00:05:13
before we put our metal um spark plug
00:05:16
spring thing i don't know the official
00:05:17
name for this but anyways before we put
00:05:19
that back on we're going to want to
00:05:21
replace our boot back on because we're
00:05:22
going to slide the boot back over it
00:05:24
because it's really hard to get this
00:05:26
part into this particular one because
00:05:28
the hole is so small so you can go
00:05:30
backwards at it and put this on first
00:05:32
and then slide the boot on but this one
00:05:34
i've got to go backwards so now we're
00:05:36
going to lube it up lots of lube we want
00:05:40
to
00:05:41
make it slide on really easy
00:05:46
we're going to put a little bit in our
00:05:48
boot
00:05:52
and we're just going to get it on up
00:05:55
there now once we have it up there you
00:05:57
can actually see it poking out this
00:05:58
large hole
00:06:00
you're going to want to grab your needle
00:06:01
nose
00:06:03
and pull it all the way through
00:06:10
just like that
00:06:11
all right
00:06:13
so now we've got our hole right here
00:06:16
we're going to put this
00:06:18
part in
00:06:21
get it started
00:06:25
once you get it started
00:06:28
go in more with your needle nose and
00:06:30
it's in a pretty good place now once
00:06:33
it's in we can slide the boot
00:06:36
back over this metal piece
00:06:38
so i'm going to go this way and i really
00:06:40
want to keep it together because i don't
00:06:41
want it to slide apart and have to do it
00:06:43
again so i'm going to hold down on it
00:06:44
while it's going over here because it
00:06:46
does have this 90 in it that sometimes
00:06:48
will kink it and make it pop out and
00:06:50
that gets annoying but it does happen
00:06:52
and it might happen here i don't know
00:06:54
we'll see
00:06:56
we hope not so i'm putting some pressure
00:06:58
on it so it doesn't do that to me
00:07:02
and it did it to me
00:07:06
let's do it again all right we're back
00:07:07
to where we were and i'd love to say
00:07:09
this happens perfectly on the first time
00:07:11
and be like yeah i'm that awesome but it
00:07:13
doesn't and it's not gonna probably
00:07:14
happen for you either so i want to be
00:07:17
realistic about it i mean
00:07:19
things don't always go as planned so
00:07:22
we're going to try try again maybe
00:07:26
hold on to it this way
00:07:30
i'm gonna push it down
00:07:32
stay in your hole stay in your hole
00:07:35
maybe if i put some pressure on it this
00:07:37
way
00:07:40
oh oh oh oh
00:07:42
we got it it's in
00:07:44
second time's a charm all right i'm
00:07:46
trying to get a good angle for you to
00:07:48
see you're going to make sure that that
00:07:50
spring is perfectly you know
00:07:53
sitting down flush round where it's
00:07:55
going to go over your spark plug tip
00:07:57
just fine so make sure it's all lined up
00:08:00
and you're good to go
00:08:01
all right so we've got it all put back
00:08:02
together and you can put it right back
00:08:04
on your spark plug but like i said
00:08:05
before i don't know what they're doing
00:08:06
to these boots and these springs anymore
00:08:08
they've made it so difficult to get off
00:08:10
the plug just be careful in the future
00:08:11
make sure you don't go pulling this way
00:08:13
twist a whole bunch make sure you loosen
00:08:15
it up maybe sometimes i've got to get a
00:08:17
flat head under there to actually pry it
00:08:18
up just a little bit because i don't
00:08:20
want to have to have this issue so
00:08:22
hopefully this will save you some time
00:08:24
money and frustration in the future now
00:08:26
let me tell you about this trimmer so my
00:08:28
commercial customer comes in a few weeks
00:08:29
ago and he wants a spark plug and an air
00:08:32
filter for his shindawa t262 he loves
00:08:35
this trimmer he uses it every day it's
00:08:37
only a year old but it has been beaten
00:08:39
up and mangled he wanted me to order him
00:08:43
a muffler cover and an air filter cover
00:08:45
because he just wanted to make it pretty
00:08:47
again so i wrote those parts down
00:08:49
and sold him the air filter and spark
00:08:51
plug he put him in right here on the
00:08:53
counter he takes it outside and
00:08:55
immediately destroyed his trimmer now
00:08:58
because of him not checking his screws
00:09:01
over time and letting it get so beat up
00:09:04
one of his screws had come loose and
00:09:06
when it did it fell inside of this
00:09:09
trimmer and what happens is when you
00:09:11
have a screw come loose and fall inside
00:09:13
of one of your units it doesn't have to
00:09:15
be a trimmer it can be anything your
00:09:17
flywheel inside has a magnet on it and
00:09:19
what happens
00:09:20
that screw won't come out because it
00:09:22
will be stuck
00:09:24
to your flywheel as soon as you start it
00:09:26
up though it's going to rub against your
00:09:28
coil and it's going to end up somewhere
00:09:30
not nice well
00:09:32
it broke all the teeth off of his
00:09:34
flywheel he brought it back into the
00:09:36
shop and he walks to the middle of the
00:09:38
floor turns his trimmer over and all the
00:09:41
pieces of his flywheel fell out into my
00:09:43
floor
00:09:44
so
00:09:46
took off the shaft removed the clutch
00:09:49
removed the flywheel to find you know we
00:09:52
knew that that was messed up since all
00:09:54
the pieces of it had fallen off but then
00:09:56
looking further
00:09:57
he actually broke the coil let me get in
00:10:00
and let's see this little closer you can
00:10:02
see right here that it has actually
00:10:06
cracked the coil
00:10:08
and
00:10:10
the metal part right here so
00:10:12
i gave him a price and he wants to fix
00:10:15
it
00:10:16
so i got all new parts i'm going to fix
00:10:18
it real quick all right so first things
00:10:19
first remove the old coil
00:10:23
now you are going to want to be careful
00:10:24
when you take this off because
00:10:27
you've got this little metal bracket
00:10:29
that we're going to need to put on the
00:10:32
new coil
00:10:36
and we have two spacers and these
00:10:40
are very important and they will fall
00:10:42
down and you will not see that they're
00:10:43
there so pay attention because they're
00:10:45
just sitting there
00:10:46
so we need those spacers
00:10:49
so next we're going to put our
00:10:54
new coil on
00:10:58
i'm going to put those in there
00:11:00
put the spacers on
00:11:07
and
00:11:09
line those up start screwing in
00:11:16
and we're not going to tighten that down
00:11:18
yet because we do have to set our coil
00:11:19
gap before we um
00:11:22
are finished so next we're going to put
00:11:24
our new flywheel on the flywheel key is
00:11:27
in the crankshaft it is not built into
00:11:29
the flywheel so that's good
00:11:31
we're going to make sure to line that up
00:11:36
we have our nuts we've got to put that
00:11:38
down and we are going to have to stop
00:11:41
the piston
00:11:43
and it is righty tighty lefty loosey so
00:11:46
i'm gonna get my pistons stop and put it
00:11:49
in the cylinder so we can tighten this
00:11:51
flywheel up
00:11:56
anytime you're using a piston stop make
00:11:58
sure
00:11:59
and you're going to tighten something
00:12:00
down make sure that it's all ready all
00:12:02
the way
00:12:04
as far as it can be over now on this one
00:12:07
actually i'm going to have to remove the
00:12:08
rewind because it is pulling against
00:12:11
that so
00:12:13
i'm going to take the rewind off a
00:12:15
little bit oh secret bolt
00:12:18
it's got a secret bolt down in the
00:12:19
bottom
00:12:27
we're just going to remove that for a
00:12:29
second so we make sure that we don't
00:12:30
have any tension on there we're not
00:12:32
going to destroy our rewind as we're
00:12:33
doing this so
00:12:36
all right we are on there now we can
00:12:39
check our gap on our coil all right
00:12:42
we've removed the piston stop so
00:12:45
this will spin freely now
00:12:49
make sure
00:12:50
rewind is not messing with us because it
00:12:52
is get back in your hole okay so this
00:12:55
will spin freely now we're going to
00:12:57
stick a business card in between
00:13:01
the coil and the flywheel and we're
00:13:03
going to turn it until the magnets
00:13:08
line up and then it's snug magnetized to
00:13:10
the flywheel so then we're able to
00:13:12
tighten down
00:13:14
our ignition module
00:13:16
bolts
00:13:18
get those golden snug
00:13:22
now we can remove that
00:13:26
and we've got good clearance all right
00:13:29
i'm gonna put my rewind back on now that
00:13:31
i got those on i can put my clutch back
00:13:33
on so
00:13:34
it does have wave washers now when i
00:13:36
took them off i made sure to notice
00:13:38
which way the wave washer was so i'm
00:13:40
gonna
00:13:41
put that back into place and this one
00:13:43
right here on the other side it has two
00:13:46
more washers just flat washers
00:13:50
that go against the flywheel
00:13:53
and we're just going to
00:13:56
start them a little bit
00:13:58
all right now that we have our clutch
00:14:00
put back on we can put our clutch
00:14:01
housing back on and our shafts
00:14:03
now this piece will have to go on by
00:14:05
itself before you put the plastic cover
00:14:07
on because there's actually two bolts
00:14:09
that get covered up whenever you put
00:14:11
this on so one or two bolts so
00:14:14
all right
00:14:16
get this hidden one in here
00:14:23
this one on this side
00:14:28
[Music]
00:14:38
here we go
00:15:09
so
00:15:20
line it all back up and get it to stick
00:15:24
back down you can notice this line right
00:15:26
here that's where it needs to go so
00:15:27
we're gonna
00:15:29
keep turning it
00:15:31
and there it goes
00:15:33
now you wanna line it all up straight

Find it here! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B3R9X5Y?ie=UTF8&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B07B3R9X5Y My name is Bre. I took two years of small engine repair at the local college. When I left school, I fell into a wonderful job at a local small engine shop where I worked the counter for a couple years. In 2010 my husband and I opened up our own small engine shop in central Arkansas where I am able to work alongside my family and best friends. We see over 2,000 pieces of small engine equipment every year, and answer 1,000's of small engine questions. We specialize in brands such as Briggs and Stratton, Kohler, Echo and Shindaiwa, but work everyday on MANY other brands like Stihl, Husqvarna, Honda, Craftsman, Remington, Red Max, Troy Bilt, Scag, Bad Boy, Hustler, World Lawn, Poulan, Mantis, Etc.. Hopefully, my experience I share, will save you Time, Money and Frustration in the future! DISCLAIMER: Links included in this description might be affiliate links.
