Тверь подчас называют маленьким Петербургом. И это, действительно, правда — хотя город имеет своё собственное неповторимое лицо, в нём находишь немало черт, которые роднят его с Северной столицей и что отличает его от многих других городов Центральной России Когда-то Тверь имела все шансы стать столицей нашей страны. В эпоху татаро-монгольского нашествия удаленность Твери от Орды способствовала притоку населения сюда. Торговый путь связывал её с Новгородом и городами Северо-Восточной Руси. Первым князем, получившим Тверской надел, был Дмитрий Донской. В 1305 году тверской князь Михаил Ярославич получил ханскую грамоту и был возведен во Владимире на престол Великого княжения, тем самым став «великим князем Всея Руси». Однако жить остался в Твери. Проигравший тяжбу московский князь Юрий Данилович затаил обиду. И в 1318 году отомстил — по его наущению Узбек-хан убил Михаила Тверского. В XV веке тверской купец Афанасий Никитин совершил свое знаменитое путешествие в Индию. В 1612 году Тверь была почти полностью разорена польско-литовскими войсками и восстановилась лишь к концу века. После войны Калинин начинают восстанавливать. Появляются роскошные здания в стиле сталинского ампира, надстраиваются старые. Причем архитекторам удалось попасть в стиль: временами дома конца 40-х — начала 50-х годов почти не отличить от тех, что были построены до революции. Спасибо за работу!
