Варя поражает всех пением и танцами. Она снова пытается уговорить лейтенанта уехать с ней. Иван догадывается, что Варя, используя деревенского дурака Гната, сообщает Горелому о событиях в селе. Ночью Климарь является за Тосей и погибает от пули лейтенанта. Завязывается бой. Бандиты убивают отца Тоси. Иван и Глумский заставляют Варю отправить в лес нужную записку. 6 серия.
