00:00:02
honestly it's one that I don't entirely
00:00:04
understand about because I feel I've
00:00:06
sidestepped it but a lot of people in
00:00:09
the United States and other
00:00:10
English-speaking countries are talking
00:00:12
today about wokeness there's a lot of
00:00:14
different definitions of it but today
00:00:15
whatever yours is I'm going to tell you
00:00:18
how I believe you can escape it
00:00:20
[Music]
00:00:23
and I want to make this talk uh more
00:00:25
about facts and not about fear I am
00:00:28
politically homeless in the United
00:00:29
States I'm sure there's some things that
00:00:31
I'm like that's pretty crazy and there's
00:00:33
some things where I'm like come on like
00:00:35
who cares I'm not going to tell you what
00:00:38
you should think at Nomad countless
00:00:40
we've helped clients everyone who
00:00:42
thought hey Roe v Wade being overturned
00:00:44
is crazy I don't like that all the way
00:00:46
to folks who are much more on the right
00:00:48
wing of the aisle our Mantra is go where
00:00:51
you're treated best and so I want to
00:00:53
talk about solutions for if you're
00:00:55
concerned about wokeness what you can do
00:00:57
about it forget everything you know
00:00:59
about the left wing the right wing
00:01:00
that's not what this is about now I have
00:01:05
spent the last decade living outside of
00:01:07
the United States I've spent the last 15
00:01:08
years exploring almost 16 years
00:01:10
exploring options
00:01:12
in other countries
00:01:14
and for me
00:01:16
culture is the biggest thing that I've
00:01:18
seen in all those years that impact
00:01:19
societies culture is something that may
00:01:22
ebb and flow but once it goes in a
00:01:24
certain direction it continues in that
00:01:26
direction until some sort of explosive
00:01:28
event in the same way that perhaps an
00:01:29
alcoholic has to hit rock bottom in many
00:01:32
cases to stop drinking you don't just
00:01:34
see especially in large societies
00:01:36
culture turn on a dime and so culture in
00:01:39
a country like the United States and I
00:01:41
would say we can put most of the
00:01:42
English-speaking World in that same
00:01:44
basket has been becoming more and more
00:01:47
Progressive you can think that's good
00:01:49
you can think that that's bad but what I
00:01:52
can tell you from having traveled to
00:01:53
over 100 countries having lived in let's
00:01:55
say a dozen of them is at the simplest
00:01:58
way to avoid wokeness or any other
00:02:01
issues that affect the social fabric
00:02:02
where you live is very simple it's to
00:02:05
move now hear me out I'm sure a lot of
00:02:08
people right now are typing that that's
00:02:10
ridiculous I'm going to stay and die
00:02:12
from my country it's my country I'm not
00:02:15
leaving but wait a second all the people
00:02:17
that you disagree with it's their
00:02:18
country too and the difference is
00:02:20
perhaps they're winning perhaps the
00:02:23
country's becoming more and more the way
00:02:25
they want it and that's becoming more
00:02:27
and more acceptable I'm not going to go
00:02:29
through all the different studies that
00:02:30
say what percentage of people accept
00:02:31
what kind of thing but I'll tell you for
00:02:33
for me and the economic side we've shown
00:02:36
how in countries like Canada a majority
00:02:38
and in some cases the vast majority of
00:02:40
people say yeah socialism is a good idea
00:02:42
we just shared recently how thirty
00:02:44
percent of gen Z in the U.S says let's
00:02:47
have surveillance cameras inside your
00:02:50
house for your safety that's the way the
00:02:53
culture is going the issue for me is is
00:02:56
that culture the same everywhere I
00:02:59
recently had a friend of mine from
00:03:00
Switzerland come and visit me and I
00:03:02
asked him I said do you think
00:03:03
Switzerland is woke he said the Ellison
00:03:05
again everyone has their own definition
00:03:07
but he says for the thing that I see
00:03:09
Americans complaining about he says we
00:03:11
probably have a little bit of that but
00:03:13
it says it really seems to me like an
00:03:15
American thing he's like every time I
00:03:16
watch a video I can tell who the
00:03:18
Americans are in the comments by the way
00:03:19
they respond and he says beyond that
00:03:21
probably an English-speaking country
00:03:23
thing so U.S Canada UK Australia New
00:03:26
Zealand those are the big ones here's a
00:03:29
guy living in a very wealthy country
00:03:30
working in a very highly paid job and he
00:03:33
says you know I just don't really see
00:03:34
much of what they're talking about in my
00:03:36
country now let's extend that out
00:03:39
further to places where for example
00:03:41
Nomad capitalist has offices we have
00:03:43
people working in Belgrade Serbia to
00:03:46
policy Georgia Yerevan Armenia let me
00:03:49
tell you if Switzerland is just a little
00:03:51
bit of what's going on in the U.S go to
00:03:53
Belgrade it's like
00:03:55
like infinitesimal there are countries
00:03:58
where it's perhaps too far the other
00:04:01
direction where I've sat and said is she
00:04:04
going to speak up it is is she just
00:04:06
really going to wait for her husband to
00:04:07
like do everything like is that the
00:04:08
culture here like it's a little
00:04:10
uncomfortable like the woman like
00:04:11
doesn't feel comfortable speaking up
00:04:13
like this is too much for me I've really
00:04:15
seen all sides of the coin and my
00:04:18
thought is you're not going to change
00:04:19
the culture in your country culture
00:04:21
creates the politicians that people vote
00:04:23
for which enact policies but culture
00:04:26
also just it's a Zeitgeist that affects
00:04:29
public mood and eventually gets turned
00:04:31
into policy but if you feel like you're
00:04:33
in the wrong side of that you can sit
00:04:35
where you're living and you can be angry
00:04:37
and you can fight and I think there's
00:04:39
some people who enjoy that I worked in
00:04:42
or adjacent to the talk radio industry
00:04:44
when I had a broadcasting business many
00:04:46
years ago and I would go to some of
00:04:48
these talk radio functions I'd meet
00:04:49
Laura Ingram I'd meet uh Dennis Miller
00:04:51
I'd be Bill O'Reilly Adele and I say to
00:04:56
myself some of the people in this
00:04:57
audience I think just like to complain
00:04:59
some people who listen to talk radio
00:05:00
some of the people who consume this
00:05:02
media diet of our country's going to pot
00:05:05
they just want to complain that is not
00:05:07
what we are talking about but what I've
00:05:10
seen living overseas is you don't have
00:05:12
to live in a constantly divided culture
00:05:14
I don't to the extent the places where I
00:05:16
live and I have homes around the world
00:05:19
they have their challenges I do not
00:05:21
think the social Fabric in those places
00:05:23
has
00:05:25
ripped as you might say as much as it
00:05:28
has in much of the western world I don't
00:05:30
really see people at each other's
00:05:31
throats and to the extent that perhaps
00:05:33
to some much lesser level they are I Am
00:05:36
The Foreigner who's living there who
00:05:37
kind of escapes the stuff that only the
00:05:40
true locals really know
00:05:43
and so I've been able to escape that
00:05:45
I've been able to associate with worldly
00:05:47
people I've been able to hire employees
00:05:50
in my company who I think generally have
00:05:52
less of an entitlement mindset that you
00:05:54
would find in the west I have even and
00:05:57
this has been discussed before become
00:05:59
more masculine perhaps not in the
00:06:01
Americanized way or it's like what are
00:06:04
you punching people out brah why aren't
00:06:06
you lifting but in a true way of being a
00:06:09
leader commanding a tribe taking charge
00:06:11
taking care of people I've become more
00:06:14
of that because the places where I've
00:06:15
lived that's what women expect most of
00:06:18
the places I've lived there is uh it's
00:06:21
interesting there are countries in
00:06:23
Europe where you have what I would call
00:06:24
very true feminism uh I met a German
00:06:27
woman once and she's like
00:06:30
um why are you trying to pay like I'm
00:06:32
also going to pay why are you walking me
00:06:34
home like I'm an adult I can be walked
00:06:36
home they don't even In some cultures
00:06:38
you know even chivalry is not so much of
00:06:40
a thing you can also get the exact
00:06:42
opposite of that where it's like I'm the
00:06:45
woman I'm going to be the woman you're
00:06:47
going to pay for drinks and I'm going to
00:06:49
act like a woman and so there's a whole
00:06:50
spectrum that you can choose from what I
00:06:53
have found in meeting people
00:06:55
particularly in Eastern Europe to a
00:06:58
lesser extent in Latin American Asia
00:06:59
there's a much greater level of maturity
00:07:02
you know in the west they talk about how
00:07:05
um
00:07:06
strong times
00:07:08
build weak men build weak people
00:07:11
and then we people create bad times and
00:07:14
the cycle continues until you find
00:07:16
strong people to rise up
00:07:18
I think a lot of people in the west are
00:07:19
fantasizing that strong people are going
00:07:21
to rise up in their country and somehow
00:07:23
change things when nothing is really hit
00:07:25
rock bottom and then again they say oh
00:07:26
everyone's with me but wait a second we
00:07:28
just heard like a majority of people
00:07:30
in many Western countries want socialism
00:07:33
a majority of them I really think if you
00:07:36
are talking about this topic they don't
00:07:37
agree with you the trend is not your
00:07:39
friend and I'm not saying that means
00:07:40
you're wrong but sitting there and
00:07:42
saying no there's a silent majority is
00:07:45
not going to change anything
00:07:46
but what I've observed
00:07:48
uh coming from a country where people
00:07:50
are a bit weaker are a bit softer and
00:07:54
and by the way I'm not into this kind of
00:07:56
toxic stuff where again people should be
00:07:58
going and and beating people or whatever
00:08:00
I don't I don't even know what some
00:08:02
people in the US think masculinity is I
00:08:04
think it's you know again building a
00:08:05
tribe but talk about Eastern Europe you
00:08:08
put a 23 year old in Eastern Europe up
00:08:10
against a 23 year old in the United
00:08:11
States the difference is night and day
00:08:12
and so over the years I've had my
00:08:14
parents for example meet a couple of
00:08:16
women that I was seeing and they're like
00:08:17
oh my God how old are you you're 23
00:08:19
years old
00:08:20
and they're like we know someone from
00:08:23
wherever that like you would be like a
00:08:26
35 year old in the U.S the 23 year olds
00:08:29
are like children where we live
00:08:32
and so if you want to be around people
00:08:35
who are more worldly are more educated
00:08:39
know what's going on have matured then
00:08:43
you probably don't want to live in most
00:08:46
English-speaking Western countries we
00:08:49
have hired people because we run a
00:08:51
business at Nomad capitalist where I was
00:08:52
just talking to our operations manager
00:08:54
today
00:08:55
he said a lot of our positions they
00:08:57
don't exist anywhere else we have a
00:08:59
unique Product Where We Are the general
00:09:00
contractor the architect and the general
00:09:02
contractor for someone who wants to move
00:09:04
overseas and will sometimes connect you
00:09:06
with nine different lawyers and
00:09:08
accountants and bankers that you need to
00:09:09
facilitate a move overseas it's not just
00:09:12
call one person it's done and so most
00:09:15
companies don't do that you normally
00:09:16
have to call eight or nine different
00:09:17
people we decided to put on our all
00:09:19
Under One Roof and the bottom line is we
00:09:21
can't just go out and hire people from
00:09:22
other companies who know our system
00:09:24
because we created the system and so we
00:09:26
tended to hire people who graduated from
00:09:28
good schools with good degrees so if
00:09:30
you're in customer service helping
00:09:31
clients Implement uh you know getting
00:09:33
their second passport you might have an
00:09:35
international relations degree not easy
00:09:37
to make a lot of money with that but you
00:09:39
have a very specific education that is
00:09:41
worldly and kind of helps that process
00:09:43
and so we've had 22 and 23 year olds
00:09:46
listen some of them don't work out but
00:09:48
we've had some of those who are better
00:09:50
than 45 year olds who come with six
00:09:53
figure salaries in the west now you
00:09:55
could say that about anything but I will
00:09:56
tell you if I had a lot of time and
00:09:59
patience to build a business I would
00:10:01
find young people with that profile uh
00:10:05
in not every Eastern European country
00:10:06
but I know of Eastern European countries
00:10:08
where there's a greater work ethic
00:10:09
there's some sense of deference in some
00:10:12
cases
00:10:13
people want to work there's an
00:10:15
intelligence that I don't think is
00:10:16
necessarily there in people who spent
00:10:18
four years in college doing jello shots
00:10:20
and then by the way uh if you want men
00:10:23
to be men and women to be women I mean
00:10:25
what I like about for example the
00:10:27
Balkans or the cacasses in Eastern
00:10:29
Europe is you'll see a muscular
00:10:32
montenegger and taxi driver who is
00:10:35
listening to like whatever the
00:10:36
montenegrin version of Selena is you
00:10:39
know and he's just totally cool with
00:10:41
that that to me is masculinity he's just
00:10:43
totally confident in here's my role in
00:10:46
society I'm with someone who's equal but
00:10:50
we have complementary strengths and we
00:10:53
are together and so so I really think
00:10:57
that you can find what it is that the
00:11:00
society that you wish existed somewhere
00:11:03
else I don't think you're going to
00:11:05
change your Society now if you're living
00:11:06
in the United States for example can you
00:11:08
move to somewhere where people are of
00:11:09
like mine sure and for some people
00:11:11
that's not a bad idea but do understand
00:11:13
you still live in a system of the
00:11:14
federal government
00:11:15
has a lot of power I think that you're
00:11:18
seeing people moving from Blue states to
00:11:19
Red States you're going to see more
00:11:21
States become competitive I lived in
00:11:22
Arizona it is entirely a blue State you
00:11:24
can argue people are argue in the
00:11:26
comments no we're still red you're not
00:11:28
Democratic governor two Democratic
00:11:30
senators like mostly Democratic
00:11:32
Representatives voted for it's a blue
00:11:35
State yes I lived in Arizona it feels
00:11:38
like a red state but it's not a red
00:11:39
State anymore and so you know how long
00:11:41
before the place where you know you live
00:11:43
the national culture kind of overtakes
00:11:45
that again I'm not taking sides here and
00:11:48
I'm sure that some of us could could
00:11:50
disagree on what we think is reasonable
00:11:52
in a culture and some of us and what's
00:11:54
not
00:11:55
but find a place where that culture
00:11:57
exists that's one thing we help our
00:11:59
clients do uh we don't consider
00:12:01
ourselves to be culture Warriors here
00:12:03
but we ask questions about what kind of
00:12:06
society do you want to live in and we've
00:12:08
helped our clients move to 31 different
00:12:09
tax-friendly countries and a couple of
00:12:11
not so tax friendly countries we've
00:12:13
helped them get passports in 28
00:12:15
different countries open bank accounts
00:12:17
and close to 50. we understand all the
00:12:20
different options and so someone who
00:12:21
says I'm looking for this kind of place
00:12:22
to live
00:12:23
would have a different place to go from
00:12:25
someone who wants a different kind of
00:12:26
place to live
00:12:27
if this is all new to you
00:12:30
I would encourage you to
00:12:32
spend four days with this at a live
00:12:34
event we're hosting called Nomad
00:12:35
capitals live and it's in a country that
00:12:38
I believe is one of the most welcoming
00:12:39
countries in the world that a lot of
00:12:41
Americans and westerners probably
00:12:43
wouldn't give a look at if we didn't
00:12:45
talk about it Kuala Lumpur Malaysia is
00:12:47
the host of this year's Nomad capitalist
00:12:49
live it is four days of off the charts
00:12:52
knowledge of asset protection
00:12:55
um second citizenship tax planning all
00:12:58
the stuff you want to live a global
00:12:59
citizen lifestyle if you're saying to
00:13:01
yourself you know what I don't want to
00:13:03
fight a losing battle whatever that
00:13:04
losing battle is where I live I'm just
00:13:06
going to go where I'm treated best and
00:13:08
you know what you get when you do that
00:13:09
you're happy
00:13:11
for some people that's probably the
00:13:13
worst thing that could happen to them
00:13:14
but if you'd like to be happy if you'd
00:13:16
like to feel at peace and connected with
00:13:18
