00:00:00
the H is that Winton was in 1951 I was about the  end of ten years old and I start when with the
00:00:43
Grandmaster Yip Man in Hong Kong I set up wing  chun kung foo in australia I've been training
00:00:55
wing chun for 60 years and I've been teaching  professionally for 14 years my name is square
00:01:02
master William Cheung I'm Misawa instructor and  also I'm doctor and professor in Chinese medicine
00:01:12
that philosophy of Wing Chun actually stem from  the the chinese kungfu misawa the word of the
00:01:22
kungfu was written one side of it is fighting the  other side of it is to stop so if you're using the
00:01:32
art to stop the fighting it served the purpose  of Misawa is not you using your using your skill
00:01:40
and and your profits to invade other people or  to you know to hurt other people but is to stop
00:01:50
the fighting of course you know they are much  more than that like to learn to respect oneself
00:01:58
then they can respect other people and that's  very important because that actually extended
00:02:07
to everything else you know like in Confucius  set if you don't want something's done to you
00:02:15
and you don't do it to other people my name is  winner Wu a chef for 16 years joined up at the
00:02:26
Wing Chun Academy three years ago basically my  health was not good I was not happy I needed
00:02:32
to balance things out and Wing Chun was the way I  saw to do it get my health back and hopefully get
00:02:39
my happiness back and live a bit of a healthier  lifestyle kitchens are not healthy a really quick
00:02:46
history on which and you'd have to go right back  to the start before the Han invasion five masters
00:02:53
came together to create a better system for  training warriors now before the heart invasion
00:02:59
and take 10 to 15 years to create a warrior a  decent warrior and over 10 to 15 years of whose so
00:03:06
many on the battlefield it just didn't compute so  the five masters come together to create a better
00:03:12
system the Hans invaded four of the Masters were  killed off and one survived and my a female nun
00:03:20
she continued to develop the system she took a lot  of the yang forcemeat force made it very subtle
00:03:28
for a user and devastating for an opponent now she  married a guy who introduced the dragon Pole and
00:03:35
eight more generations of masters have come and  gone they have refined and added in meridians and
00:03:43
butterfly swords and really honed in on all the  stuff that's life-saving and got rid of everything
00:03:49
that may only work 95% of the time so we've  basically gone from fifteen years to seven years
00:03:56
and then over the last eight generations we're  looking at three to four years to create a proper
00:04:03
warrior now that is mostly a knowledge-based skill  nowadays because we don't have the opportunity to
00:04:09
go out on the field and really check a lot of  this stuff because it is life-saving techniques
00:04:14
there's finger strikes pressure point and they're  really in striking this sort of thing you can't
00:04:20
do to your training partner you can't do it  in a tournament it is really street fighting
00:04:26
application life-saving sort of stuff what are  their principal and and strategy of traditional
00:04:34
Wing Chun traditional Wing Chun I teach you just  to watch one point they elbow control one point
00:04:41
the elbow and go to the blindside because to be  able to make it work one has to have very good
00:04:50
contact reflexes that's where the cheese out  comes in because all the other muscle system
00:04:58
in the world they are fighting face-to-face square  on because they could not fight on the blind side
00:05:07
because without controlling the elbow without the  the skill and technique to control the elbow they
00:05:16
could not fight on the blind side it's the only  style that was developed by a woman and you get
00:05:21
other martial arts that would laugh at that my  name is Andrew chunk I'm the son of grandmas
00:05:27
William Cheung and I'm 20 years old and I work  at the traditional winching academy in Melbourne
00:05:34
watching the over fart in the blind sight and what  we mean by that is you don't want to fight force
00:05:39
with force okay if you face someone Toyota Toyota  square on then used either relying on your speed
00:05:49
or your strength or maybe even on your timing yeah  more you like even more so your timing things like
00:05:58
that and you read reflexes the winch is the only  one that knows how to control it a elbow okay
00:06:03
it's very very dangerous if you don't know how to  control your opponent when fighting on the blind
00:06:08
side it's very very dangerous place to be because  all they've got to do is line you up with just a
00:06:14
jab and throw it across that's why that's why you  see boxes they they usually fight toe-to-toe very
00:06:20
Willington punch you could you could hit someone  right there like that and it has anybody hurt them
00:06:27
now if I do that with my elbow out like this with  my elbow out I need my hip and shoulder to move am
00:06:34
i right like when you do it like my tire you know  they use their hip in their shoulder you got to
00:06:42
stand up to do that though you can't do that sting  down also you're not over committing when you do
00:06:48
this you have a commit like when you're standing  up you ever commit each time even if you're on
00:06:52
balance you go on away from there when you do this  yeah when you're here it's recovery time you can't
00:07:01
put an average person on the streets with a bit  of more tire and expect them to defend himself but
00:07:07
you can give them a couple of wins and techniques  and expect them to elder's defend himself so that
00:07:12
in my opinion is how it went in compare this is  just it it's a very economical style for like
00:07:19
movement ng wise and also at the same time you  don't have to be big and strong to do it which
00:07:24
is proof I mean you look it now they are skinny  he is and he was a and he was able to slap people
00:07:30
around all over the place if you have a look at  all the systems you will find 70 year old winter
00:07:36
and masters still kicking 30 year old assets which  i think is fantastic history on it man he is our
00:07:43
seafood seafood as a practitioner he unbelievable  he was five foot two he's not a big guy who's kind
00:07:51
of frail the winch in neutral stance is basically  where all our power comes from in Wing Chun he
00:07:59
had mastered the stance to a point where four  fellows like myself could stand one behind the
00:08:05
other behind the other behind the other and push  in on him and he could just stand there and absorb
00:08:11
all that strength was so 100 young men the first  children at that time there's only eight senior
00:08:20
student to me I joined with my brother in fact  most of the contemporary student they were passed
00:08:30
away except Choi champion but true champions  health is not that good either you know he's got
00:08:38
cancer and I don't think he will he would survive  very long I know that he has probably seen a lot
00:08:47
of people killed and that's one of the reasons  why he devotes himself so much to Street and Andy
00:08:55
violence how to defend yourself without having  to attack to get away from situations rather
00:09:00
than having to beat someone senseless so it become  a ritual that every week that we had a challenge
00:09:07
match either on the roof or on the new territory  and so so in the end I thought the best fighter
00:09:18
in in the Triads you know and then they gave him  the title of double plum flower dragon Pole you
00:09:30
know that's his title and so I defeated him and he  was a gentleman in fact even though he was in the
00:09:40
Triads you know and we became friends in fact he  saved my life a couple of times you know because
00:09:45
in fact we were doing on the roof and and he was  at the edge of the roof he literally fell off and
00:09:52
I caught tip I saved him my dad has had plenty  of straight encounters having to deal with a lot
00:10:02
of the gangs in Hong Kong Hong Kong back then  it wasn't how it's known as today there were
00:10:07
a lot more slums there they had um when he was  fighting there it's different to how what we know
00:10:14
is fighting we're not as finding is just defending  yourself from be from a bunch of drunk guys when
00:10:20
he was when he was fighting he was fighting for  his life you know every street situation is that
00:10:26
possible he could have been killed I think Andrew  it's very good very dedicated and of course you
00:10:32
know he's still well they say in the Chinese  philosophy that you have to a lot of time that
00:10:45
you learn when you make a mistake right Andrew  was very dedicated to Wang journey but for him
00:10:56
for for a few years before that you know he's  focusing on Wing Chun now he was exposed to the
00:11:07
Chi Chi show so he went over to learn and so so  he's a pre-sale and he understood that winner
00:11:16
knows much more superior so now he's very focused  now time will tell that Andrew will probably be
00:11:25
very very good you know I'm very confident of  it the pressures on Andrew would be immense he
00:11:33
has grown up with a father such as William Cheung  and he's world renowned and if you look at other
00:11:40
doesn't matter what job they're doing but if you  look at other father-son dynamics most generally
00:11:47
the son will want to go off and make his own path  and do his own thing and not follow his father's
00:11:53
footsteps my heart and everybody I know that knows  him really hope that he does follow through fill
00:12:00
that position but that'll be entirely up to him  he's still young he's got a lot of living to do we
00:12:06
all hope the knowledge from his father in the past  threw him to us and so on and so forth so that we
00:12:14
can continue the winch and lifestyle if the three  people came at me I would be comfortable together
00:12:21
that situation I'm not saying I wouldn't get hit  I'm not saying I wouldn't get hurt but I would get
00:12:25
out of that situation the first way I'd do with  is I wouldn't deal with you now the reason why
00:12:31
I wouldn't do with you is not because I think  you're the best fighter out of all of them but
00:12:35
because you're in the middle if I immediately  go into the middle there then I'm already done
00:12:41
okay cousins to do on the side I'll either go  this way or I'll go that way I said it's the
00:12:48
same principle you fightin a blindside you don't  have fight forceful force and if I could talk it
00:12:53
over with you three guys about not fighting that  I'll do that first I wouldn't I probably wouldn't
00:12:58
akin to that situation in the first place the  pressure on Angel and like the other son games
00:13:08
are very great because they have to live up  with my reputation and my you know my name and
00:13:17
so on you know but I think they are they are very  humble and they very you know they they work very
00:13:26
hard for for what they want to achieve you know  so I'm sure that they will handle it very well
00:13:32
would we have a fight between a Bruce Lee  oh they did fire and burst they won yeah no
00:13:43
no outside behind that [ __ ] a ganache would  never will never talk about that he would never
00:13:49
say anything it's as if it didn't happen but it  oh I my dad and my dad told me and my dad was in
00:13:58
contact with Bruce Lee not not face to face the  penthouse from one of Bruce Lee's letters Chuck
00:14:08
Norris was actually defeated by Bruce and became  Bruce's student even though you know he didn't
00:14:17
admit it he didn't miss it after you know after  Bruce died you know but I know for sure you know
00:14:26
Bruce will be Chuck Norris any day who would be  a fight between Bruce and Chuck I can't imagine
00:14:36
Chuck when I just kind I gotta go have my dad on  that that's because I mean that bet well I mean
00:14:53
I'm looking at physical advantage it has been I  mean destitute second piece of to people who would
00:14:59
who just don't believe they could lose and also  to people who are very very skilled but you gotta
00:15:07
take into account my dad was Bruce Lee a senior  in the same university was his junior he's like
00:15:13
that in my dad introduced Bruce Lee the martial  arts I say hands down one thing he's the master
00:15:18
of masters when Bruce used to get in trouble  in Hong Kong seafood pulling out of trouble
00:15:25
of course our way
