00:00:06
hey what's up everyone it's the
00:00:07
archetype a music producer based in
00:00:09
cambridge mass
00:00:10
today i'm going to show you how we can
00:00:12
make a beat with mini creative sampler
00:00:15
and reason using any sound source
00:00:18
like my voice
00:00:20
all right so we've uh i've loaded up
00:00:22
reason and i've got an empty mimic uh
00:00:24
sampler here
00:00:26
we're going to take our sound
00:00:28
our dialogue from the intro
00:00:31
and
00:00:32
throw it in there this is going to be
00:00:33
our source material hey what's up
00:00:35
everyone it's the archetype a music
00:00:37
producer based on cambridge mass
00:00:39
today i'm going to show you how we can
00:00:41
make a beat with mini creative sampler
00:00:43
and reason using any sound source
00:00:46
like my voice
00:00:48
cool so that's our source material um so
00:00:51
first thing i'm going to do is kind of
00:00:52
dial in a section that i feel like could
00:00:54
turn into like a musical note
00:00:57
i think this section will work pretty
00:00:59
well so let me just uh isolate it here
00:01:02
zoom in get into
00:01:04
in the frame
00:01:06
you you you
00:01:08
you you
00:01:10
you you you yeah it's feeling good it's
00:01:12
nice long held uh
00:01:14
pitch you um and i think i can kind of
00:01:18
tweak this to go kind of turn it into a
00:01:20
nice tone so let's put a little
00:01:22
filtering on it a little low pass you're
00:01:24
you're just kind of you take some of
00:01:26
that high end right off it
00:01:28
still kind of feels a little um well
00:01:31
let's compress it a little bit because
00:01:32
you're feeling a little weak so you you
00:01:34
you you that helps it beefs it up um
00:01:38
still sounds like the word you so i want
00:01:41
to try to uh take take a little bit of
00:01:43
that
00:01:46
you you you you you you you you
00:01:50
you do do
00:01:56
[Music]
00:01:57
let's put a little distortion in there
00:02:20
so let's put a little uh reverb and
00:02:22
delay on that just to kind of like tone
00:02:24
it
00:02:27
i think
00:02:29
because i have it in melody mode we have
00:02:31
it all mapped out and pitch mode and
00:02:34
then melody stretch it uh maps out to
00:02:36
every key
00:02:37
and can be played like notes
00:02:44
so uh yeah let's give it a little shot
00:02:46
let's uh
00:02:47
try to make a little melody out of this
00:03:07
yeah i like the end of that the end of
00:03:09
that kind of got nice so let's use those
00:03:11
little staccato notes those are kind of
00:03:13
a nice tone to them
00:03:19
and paste those through
00:03:34
i'm just tweaking the filter a little
00:03:36
bit just to kind of give it a little
00:03:38
more of a
00:03:40
note tone and kind of take the word out
00:03:42
of it a little bit the voice out of it
00:03:46
that feels pretty cool so on another
00:03:48
mimic um i've loaded in that same
00:03:50
dialogue and uh in this in this case put
00:03:53
it to multi slot so that i can use these
00:03:55
eight different slots kind of almost as
00:03:57
like you know just individual samples
00:04:00
where all these parameters will work to
00:04:02
the specific slot as opposed to globally
00:04:05
i've isolated a section of the dialogue
00:04:09
that i think might work well as a kick
00:04:11
drum
00:04:13
so i'll show you what uh what i've got
00:04:15
going here and uh yeah so you can take a
00:04:19
little uh
00:04:20
listen to what we've
00:04:21
what i'm working with so this was a part
00:04:23
of the dialogue that said music producer
00:04:25
bit
00:04:27
and i think that the plosive that i get
00:04:28
from that producer the p
00:04:31
can maybe work nicely as a kick drum
00:04:35
so that's kind of like
00:04:37
got a good little kind of punchiness to
00:04:39
it so let's put a little low-pass filter
00:04:41
on that um and let's put the resonance
00:04:44
up and the frequency down so it's kind
00:04:47
of like
00:04:48
sounds a little bit like a kick drum
00:04:50
um let's compress that
00:04:52
to kind of beef it up and
00:04:54
make it feel a little better there i
00:04:56
like that
00:04:58
um
00:04:59
i think
00:05:00
it sounds nice but i think we can pitch
00:05:01
this down a little bit and get a nice
00:05:03
thumpier sound out of it so
00:05:10
let's see maybe 11
00:05:13
10
00:05:14
10 feels pretty good
00:05:15
all right that feels pretty good
00:05:17
i think we can bring in maybe a little
00:05:20
bit crushy
00:05:22
just to get a little like sort of top
00:05:23
end on that back
00:05:27
and i think that feels kind of nice
00:05:29
um
00:05:31
my opinion that's a pretty cool good
00:05:33
sounding kick drum
00:05:34
for where it came from um in slot 2
00:05:37
again i have brought in uh the same
00:05:39
vocal
00:05:40
and uh and have
00:05:43
[Music]
00:05:44
tried to basically find ourselves a
00:05:46
little snare drum so i'll show you the
00:05:48
section that i pulled from here
00:05:50
uh this is what we're working with i
00:05:54
like my voice i like my voice
00:05:56
and uh i think that
00:06:00
the like
00:06:01
because of the k can give us a little
00:06:03
bit of a kick even though it's silent
00:06:05
there it can kind of i i
00:06:08
think we can get a snare drum out of
00:06:09
that right back so let's
00:06:28
that's pretty good that's pretty good
00:06:30
let's do a band pass on this just to
00:06:32
kind of like
00:06:36
that's starting to feel almost like a
00:06:37
little kind of like rim shoddy snare
00:06:40
let's compress that thicken it up
00:06:48
feels pretty good let's put a little
00:06:49
distortion on it
00:07:01
like that let's pitch it down a little
00:07:03
bit
00:07:04
just to kind of
00:07:06
maybe there that feels kind of good beef
00:07:08
it up a little bit
00:07:10
um
00:07:13
i think if we put a little reverb
00:07:16
on that
00:07:20
that feels pretty good
00:07:22
and then in the last slot here um i also
00:07:24
have isolated a section that i think can
00:07:27
work for the hi-hat um
00:07:30
so this this pass here uh
00:07:36
everyone it's the archetype everyone is
00:07:39
the archetype i think the t from my name
00:07:41
there can be
00:07:44
work as a hi-hat so let's dial that in a
00:07:46
little bit
00:07:57
sounding good
00:07:58
let's uh take some low end out of that
00:08:03
this feels kind of like a high hat
00:08:07
it's compressive
00:08:08
beef it up
00:08:15
let's make shorten it up a bunch
00:08:21
yeah
00:08:22
it feels like a hi-hat
00:08:26
cool so [Music]
00:08:30
cool so uh let's try adding some drums
00:08:32
to this beat now and see uh see what we
00:08:34
get
00:08:49
feels cool
00:08:54
let's
00:08:55
duplicate that up put some hi-hats in
00:08:57
there
00:09:04
[Music]
00:09:12
[Music]
00:09:24
cool i like the natural groove that we
00:09:26
have on the hi-hat so we're gonna leave
00:09:28
that alone don't quantize that give it
00:09:30
the natural feel
00:09:31
um so if we take that lead melody that
00:09:33
we made
00:09:34
and we duplicate the whole
00:09:37
unit
00:09:38
and uh remove some of that delay removes
00:09:40
from that processing um you know it's
00:09:42
still mapped out um in uh melody mode
00:09:45
and in pitch mode so so it's mapped to
00:09:47
every key i think we can come down and
00:09:49
and take some of this uh high end out of
00:09:52
out of it
00:09:53
put a little pass on it you know and and
00:09:55
compress it and we can get a
00:09:57
more of a base tone
00:10:03
so
00:10:06
you know that kind of
00:10:08
feels like you know feels like it's got
00:10:10
a nice little bass sound out of it so
00:10:11
let's try adding some bass
00:10:14
[Music]
00:10:36
cool so we got a nice little bass sound
00:10:39
out of that
00:10:43
put a little bottom in there and then if
00:10:45
we take that same lead mimic and
00:10:46
duplicate it one more time
00:10:49
uh this time engaging the loop uh the
00:10:52
loop mode here
00:10:54
um so that it basically doubles back on
00:10:56
itself after running through the
00:10:58
envelope once it doubles back and just
00:10:59
kind of repeats this will give us kind
00:11:01
of more of like a pad like thing
00:11:03
and i feel like we can maybe get some
00:11:05
sort of a like pad organic kind of vibe
00:11:08
out of this um
00:11:10
by you know putting a little low-pass
00:11:12
filter on and again keeping that there
00:11:15
filtering a little more with the eq
00:11:17
adding some compression
00:11:19
i think we might be able to uh achieve
00:11:22
something kind of cool so let's see what
00:11:23
we can get out of this um
00:11:36
it's kind of got like an organ vibe so
00:11:38
let's see if that fits in there
00:11:45
so
00:11:48
[Music]
00:11:58
[Music]
00:12:04
[Music]
00:12:06
sweet that's cool it's kind of eerie a
00:12:08
little creepy
00:12:10
um
00:12:11
let's see what uh
00:12:13
what that feels like
00:12:20
[Music]
00:12:30
[Music]
00:12:37
so well i think that uh at this point
00:12:39
you know we got a little cool beat made
00:12:41
completely out of vocals um i think that
00:12:43
like if i bring my you know bring my my
00:12:46
my drummer john and lay some live drums
00:12:49
on top of this and we chop some of that
00:12:50
on top it might kind of help really
00:12:52
bring a little more life to this so
00:12:54
let's see how that works
00:12:55
[Music]
00:13:05
[Applause]
00:13:06
[Music]
00:13:07
all right so i've got uh i've got john's
00:13:11
drums in here now um
00:13:13
and i recorded him into the timeline and
00:13:16
exported them as a new sample
00:13:19
threw them into mimic and sliced them up
00:13:21
so now we have all of his drones
00:13:25
as uh
00:13:28
as uh different slices
00:13:30
so that we can like reprogram re kind of
00:13:32
like uh format however we want just kind
00:13:35
of play with them as uh as as like kind
00:13:37
of like a break beat so let's try adding
00:13:39
some live drums into this mix see how it
00:13:40
feels and uh see what we come up with
00:13:46
[Music]
00:13:51
so
00:13:54
[Music]
00:14:10
it's able to play with a little bit in
00:14:11
there kind of give it a couple of
00:14:13
variations some turnarounds
00:14:15
i think we should be in good shape
00:14:18
uh
00:14:19
just kind of format this a little bit
00:14:30
let's do this
00:14:35
[Music]
00:14:57
yeah that feels cool so
00:15:00
yeah that's the uh that's basically how
00:15:02
you can uh one example of how you can
00:15:04
make a beat out of using just your voice
00:15:06
and uh and mimic creative sampling
00:15:08
inside of reason
00:15:10
my name is archetype my drummer jonathan
00:15:13
allman uh helped me out with this one
00:15:15
and uh i hope you enjoyed it and learned
00:15:18
a thing or two
00:15:32
you
