00:00:00
so 40k has changed an absolute ton
00:00:02
recently huge buffs and nerfs to a ton
00:00:04
of armies and a whole new set of
00:00:05
missions to grapple with now the dust is
00:00:07
settling which are the armies that are
00:00:09
winding up on top
00:00:16
hello and welcome back to wars bets
00:00:18
tactics where today we're going to be
00:00:19
going through every faction in 40k and
00:00:21
seeing how they've been getting on in
00:00:23
competitive games recently this video is
00:00:25
a follow-up to one i made a couple of
00:00:27
weeks ago a tier list attempting to
00:00:29
predict the changes that nephilim would
00:00:31
have on the game and at the time i did
00:00:32
say that i'd make a follow-up video once
00:00:35
we actually had some good tournament
00:00:36
data and see which armies are doing well
00:00:38
in reality we're going to be talking
00:00:40
through every faction in the game
00:00:42
starting with arguably the weakest and
00:00:44
getting onto the very strongest the
00:00:45
armies that are likely to be winning
00:00:47
matchups and stomping tournaments across
00:00:49
the globe
00:00:51
so while the previous video was a bit of
00:00:52
a subjective tier list this one's going
00:00:54
to be fairly numbers driven i thought
00:00:56
we'd take a look at the number of armies
00:00:57
that are winning events and they win
00:00:59
percentages when they're playing other
00:01:00
factions i think that has at least a
00:01:02
reasonable time to do so all of those
00:01:04
changes in warzone nephilim happened
00:01:06
three to four weeks ago now so now
00:01:08
people have had enough chance to
00:01:09
actually play some tournament games and
00:01:11
put all the theory crafting into
00:01:12
practice in competitive events the
00:01:14
nephilim changes have been in play for a
00:01:16
couple of weeks with chaos-based marines
00:01:18
maybe only just starting to be played in
00:01:20
earnest this last week there isn't a
00:01:22
whole ton of data yet but it's certainly
00:01:23
possible to see some clear trends in
00:01:25
terms of the changes there was the
00:01:26
balanced data slate that often nerfed a
00:01:28
bunch of things all the points cost
00:01:30
updates which also had big impacts the
00:01:32
new command point limitations which
00:01:34
really hurt some armies but kind of
00:01:36
didn't hurt some of us so much and new
00:01:38
faction secondary objectives which do
00:01:40
seem to be having impact
00:01:42
in this list i thought we'd use two
00:01:43
different metrics the number of armies
00:01:45
that are finishing in high placements at
00:01:47
tournaments and also the win percentages
00:01:49
in grand tournament games as with the
00:01:51
last time we looked at a video like this
00:01:54
i thought i'd use the top ten percent of
00:01:55
tournament placings just as a rough
00:01:57
measure for which armies are being
00:01:59
successful as i fail to break into the
00:02:01
top ten percent of most tournaments you
00:02:03
are going to wind up with more of the
00:02:04
stronger armies in that bracket than the
00:02:06
weaker ones i think top 10 percent also
00:02:08
is quite nice it gives a bit more weight
00:02:10
to bigger events really massive grand
00:02:12
tournaments really help weed out these
00:02:14
stronger lists from the weakest so it
00:02:15
does make sense to include more of the
00:02:17
top lists from them the main issue with
00:02:19
that metric is that it doesn't take into
00:02:21
account the amount of people playing the
00:02:22
army highly played armies will get a few
00:02:24
more placings just through sheer weight
00:02:26
of numbers but on the plus side it does
00:02:28
show the armies that you're actually
00:02:29
likely to run into in an event if you're
00:02:31
doing well and the ones that you're
00:02:33
going to need to fight off for the top
00:02:34
spots another rough and ready way to
00:02:36
gauge army strength is their win
00:02:38
percentages and the number of games that
00:02:40
armies are winning against other armies
00:02:42
at tournaments in theory this should
00:02:43
fairly directly show you exactly how
00:02:45
strong an army is due to what percentage
00:02:47
of mack jobs you're likely to be the
00:02:49
victor and in theory it is the better
00:02:50
metric on paper but in practicality
00:02:53
there are some issues with that as well
00:02:55
it gets very unhelpful for lesser played
00:02:57
armies say if you've only got one or two
00:02:59
faction experts turning up with the
00:03:01
worst armors on the list and often you
00:03:02
get some slightly inflated win
00:03:04
percentages for fairly bad armies as the
00:03:06
only people who are running them are
00:03:08
people who are absolutely diehard
00:03:09
players wherever there's low numbers of
00:03:11
people playing the win percentage margin
00:03:13
of error could be very big indeed to the
00:03:15
extent where it's just not all that
00:03:16
meaningful to look at in the first place
00:03:18
and also the win percentage can be
00:03:20
excused by armies that tend to have a
00:03:21
few more newer or more casual players in
00:03:23
them i think in particular necrons and
00:03:25
space marines being these starter kit
00:03:27
armies tend to have a few more slightly
00:03:28
newer players who aren't quite as
00:03:30
invested in top tier warhammer i think
00:03:32
both of these things are helpful though
00:03:34
for a rough gauge of how armies are
00:03:35
doing for the event placements i've
00:03:37
literally been through best coast
00:03:39
pairings and looked at each tournament
00:03:41
taking the top 10 of armies and added
00:03:43
them to the numbers
00:03:44
for the win percentages there's a rather
00:03:46
helpful guy who makes a breakdown called
00:03:48
meta mondays on the warhammer
00:03:49
competitive page so i've just taken a
00:03:51
rough average of the past three weeks
00:03:53
worth of data for the netherland
00:03:54
missions i thoroughly recommend checking
00:03:56
out those meta mondays post on the
00:03:58
competitive 40k reddit page really good
00:04:00
for a rough understanding of what armis
00:04:02
are doing well or not so well and if the
00:04:05
person who makes those does happen to be
00:04:06
listening you're doing an absolutely
00:04:07
awesome job i'll link the latest post
00:04:10
down in the video description in any
00:04:11
case let's get into it and talk through
00:04:13
the factions of 40k starting with the
00:04:15
weakest and ending with the strongest
00:04:18
so starting out we'll go for the
00:04:20
foremost struggling armies in 40k at the
00:04:22
moment at least in terms of top 10
00:04:24
placings for the list we'll go through
00:04:26
the amount of top placings and talk
00:04:28
about the win percentage of each army as
00:04:29
we go along sometimes i think that the
00:04:31
win percentage is more meaningful than
00:04:33
the number of placings sometimes less so
00:04:36
firstly and kind of sadly despite all
00:04:37
their recent buffs the imperial guards
00:04:39
still don't seem to be breaking through
00:04:41
they only got one top 10 placing despite
00:04:44
their hammer of the emperor also
00:04:45
wounding on sixes with all their guns
00:04:47
getting armor of contempt on all their
00:04:49
vehicles then having sions folded in to
00:04:51
get hammer of the emperor and a few
00:04:53
minor helpful points cause i was kind of
00:04:55
suspecting that we might get at least a
00:04:56
few more guard lists breaking through i
00:04:58
suppose neph limb didn't really help one
00:05:00
of the other rather strong ways to run
00:05:02
them before which was getting mascara in
00:05:04
constrict white shields for one command
00:05:06
point for two units i guess that's a bit
00:05:08
more painful if you're also wanting
00:05:09
things like 10 cases and you've only got
00:05:11
6 cp to start with their overall win
00:05:14
percentage does look like it could be
00:05:16
the single worst at 37
00:05:18
unless you're breaking down literally
00:05:19
every flavor of space marine a few of
00:05:21
those rank lower i feel like with their
00:05:23
new upgrades they do have a fair bit
00:05:24
more chance of challenging top lists but
00:05:26
so far things still don't seem to be
00:05:28
working out for the guard particularly
00:05:29
well
00:05:31
next up and again with only the one
00:05:33
placing we have the adeptus mechanicus
00:05:35
they've been struggling horribly before
00:05:37
and did arguably get a few decent buffs
00:05:39
out of the balanced data slate and
00:05:41
points cuts their core back on iron
00:05:43
striders gave them a much more powerful
00:05:45
gun line unit rust stalkers going down
00:05:47
was helpful and guessing a few more
00:05:49
strategies go back to their original
00:05:50
power isn't passed i suppose their
00:05:52
secondary objectives and nephilim
00:05:54
command point changes didn't really help
00:05:56
them though as they often wanted to
00:05:57
spend loads of cp pre-game very few
00:06:00
people seem to be wanting to play them
00:06:01
approximate win percent is 43 percent
00:06:04
and it's certainly not that there aren't
00:06:05
competitive ahmed players out there
00:06:07
considering how much they were
00:06:08
dominating in the early 9th i still
00:06:10
think much of the rest of the codex
00:06:12
could do with some small points cuts or
00:06:14
something to make them a bit more
00:06:15
dangerous
00:06:17
i'm also not particularly surprised to
00:06:18
see chaos demons down here as well only
00:06:21
one placing as well i would argue that
00:06:23
these are probably the single weakest
00:06:24
faction 40k at the moment kind of
00:06:26
mediocre to bad before and then got no
00:06:28
recent boss whatsoever from all the
00:06:30
balance changes just due to their codecs
00:06:32
being the next one and games workshop
00:06:34
seemingly not think that it's worth it
00:06:35
for a month or so their approximate win
00:06:38
percent is 50 though it's a ridiculously
00:06:40
small sample size so it's perhaps more
00:06:42
indicative of just a few good players
00:06:44
doing well very few people seem to be
00:06:46
choosing to run them in a competitive
00:06:47
environment if they have other armies on
00:06:50
offer
00:06:51
finally for the former struggling armies
00:06:53
we have the jeans to the cult they had
00:06:55
zero placings in a top 10 that i could
00:06:57
find on bcp i think it was kind of
00:07:00
predicted that they'd be taking a bit of
00:07:01
a tumble being a reasonably mid-tier
00:07:03
army before the one that took quite a
00:07:05
lot of skill to play and win with
00:07:07
against the top dogs with the vast
00:07:09
majority of the weaker armies getting
00:07:10
decent buffs and genes to the courts
00:07:12
just staying exactly the same they're
00:07:14
more of a challenge to win with than
00:07:15
ever they still want some really
00:07:16
powerful tricks and can do a lot of
00:07:18
things that other armies just plain
00:07:19
can't but they often need to make full
00:07:21
advantage of those tricks just to be
00:07:23
dealing decent damage in the first place
00:07:25
and then most of their units do get
00:07:26
killed pretty easily in return it's not
00:07:28
the best news for the followers of the
00:07:30
four armed emperor these days again
00:07:32
their win percentage really wasn't too
00:07:33
bad but seeing as it hasn't been enough
00:07:36
to propel seemingly any player into the
00:07:38
top 10 percent of finishings it doesn't
00:07:40
seem to be amounting to enough to really
00:07:42
see them break through on mass
00:07:45
moving on we'll go to the next tear-up
00:07:47
and again armistice that didn't get all
00:07:49
that many decent finishes there's
00:07:51
another four armies that have between
00:07:52
two and four top ten percent placings i
00:07:54
was actually kind of surprised to see
00:07:56
gray night so low by both metrics on
00:07:58
this they don't seem to have been having
00:08:00
the best time since nephilim dropped
00:08:02
only two people seem to make it into the
00:08:03
top ten percent of placings and
00:08:05
tournaments and their win mate at gts
00:08:07
appears to have been a fairly poultry 39
00:08:09
one of the weaker ones whichever way you
00:08:12
slice it these stats just don't really
00:08:13
look all that good for them i'd guess
00:08:15
that they might just be having a few bad
00:08:17
weeks it's not really that they've lost
00:08:19
much power from warzone nephilim at all
00:08:21
and a fair few of their stronger rivals
00:08:23
have been toned down i certainly feel
00:08:25
that with a competitive build they're
00:08:26
still going to be an army that's going
00:08:28
to challenge a lot of people they've got
00:08:29
some solid shooting with their dread
00:08:31
knights threatening infantry at range
00:08:33
psychic and melee and potentially some
00:08:35
very hard to shift paladins with armored
00:08:37
resilience
00:08:39
also in the club of previous meta armies
00:08:41
that don't seem to be doing quite as
00:08:42
well right now are drewcard with two
00:08:44
placements it does seem that over the
00:08:46
past half a year or so a lot fewer
00:08:48
people are playing drukari maybe a lot
00:08:50
of folks were still playing them as
00:08:52
their built up lists for their previous
00:08:54
very strong states but now they've got
00:08:55
quite a lot more rivals just with an
00:08:57
elder never mind the best of the game
00:08:59
their win mate also seems fairly healthy
00:09:01
though again not many people are running
00:09:03
them at gts i'm still not convinced that
00:09:05
they're outright bad to be honest but
00:09:06
they're certainly shaping up to be more
00:09:08
one of the middle of the road armies as
00:09:10
opposed to anything outstanding anymore
00:09:12
as codexes go i do feel like it's one of
00:09:14
the better books in that the vast
00:09:15
majority of their units are decently
00:09:17
usable i guess just with their various
00:09:19
successive nerfs most of the really
00:09:20
strong stuff has been rained in
00:09:23
also down here we have chaos knights
00:09:25
three top 10 tournament placings overall
00:09:28
and despite having a new recent shiny
00:09:30
book out they are a slightly more lesser
00:09:31
played army not all that many people
00:09:33
have an army of chaos knights kicking
00:09:35
around and ready to go they still do
00:09:37
seem to be doing solidly enough an
00:09:38
average one percent of 49 at least in
00:09:41
the post-nephilim world they do seem to
00:09:43
be a little bit behind their imperial
00:09:44
counterparts broadly speaking people
00:09:47
seem to like house herb attracts icon
00:09:49
class knights they're tougher and hits a
00:09:50
lot harder in melee or possibly house of
00:09:53
extrix war dogs with all the melter in
00:09:55
the world i have seen a couple of lists
00:09:56
running around with abaddon and 12 war
00:09:59
dogs it seems that the spoiler himself
00:10:01
is about efficient to justify himself as
00:10:03
just a beat stick even though it only
00:10:05
gives the war dogs kind of minimal buffs
00:10:07
still though perhaps looking like a bit
00:10:09
more of a challenge to win with than
00:10:10
some but enough cool toys to punch up
00:10:12
and be seriously threatening with the
00:10:14
right army
00:10:16
finally for this category we have the
00:10:18
orcs who took four placements in the top
00:10:20
ten percent again they're one of the
00:10:22
more struggling factions that gained a
00:10:24
few interesting things in the chapter
00:10:26
approved updates while now gives them an
00:10:28
invoice haven't better strength and the
00:10:30
infantry broadly got a bit cheaper both
00:10:32
really quite helpful things i still
00:10:34
don't think the orcs are perhaps one of
00:10:35
the most obvious armies to build a
00:10:37
really strong list with a lot of units
00:10:39
still don't really take a punch
00:10:40
particularly well for the points cost
00:10:42
even at their toughness of five again
00:10:44
their win rate isn't terrible though
00:10:46
around 48
00:10:47
it's going to be interesting seeing how
00:10:49
all players adapt to the new changes and
00:10:51
what sort of builds come through
00:10:54
next up let's get into the more mid-tier
00:10:56
armies these are factions that scored
00:10:57
between 5 and 10 top ten percent
00:10:59
placings and starting off we have the
00:11:01
thousand suns there are six people
00:11:03
finished in high places and around about
00:11:05
a break even fifty percent win rate at
00:11:08
gt's i'd say the thousand suns have just
00:11:10
resolutely been a mid to upper mid tier
00:11:12
army ever since the codex came out never
00:11:15
really been particularly outstanding in
00:11:16
the power rankings but never really
00:11:18
being not a threat at all after the
00:11:20
latest changes they got a fair few nice
00:11:22
things like rubrics of some very cheap
00:11:24
gear and they were perhaps one of the
00:11:25
factions that like the armor of
00:11:26
contempts changes the most particularly
00:11:28
with scarab called terminators it's hard
00:11:30
to go too far wrong with loads of tough
00:11:32
object and a decent battery of mortal
00:11:34
wound output
00:11:36
next up we have the craft worlds and i
00:11:38
have included inari in the craft world
00:11:41
basically having rules that really
00:11:42
aren't too dissimilar from just a
00:11:44
individual craft world and allowing you
00:11:46
to include a few harlequin and dracari
00:11:48
units it does seem that that change to
00:11:49
the hail of doomcraft world seems to
00:11:51
have discouraged people from using it
00:11:53
quite so much a lot of people were using
00:11:55
that with dire avengers or wind rider
00:11:57
jet bikes for some massively dangerous
00:11:59
shurikens people do seem to be
00:12:00
gravitating a bit more towards earthway
00:12:02
as opposed to that now the inari also
00:12:05
had two of these six placings as well in
00:12:07
my predicted tier list i had craft
00:12:09
worlds a fair bit higher than this i
00:12:10
still think their damage out porch
00:12:12
shenanigans and psychic synergy really
00:12:14
aren't too bad but i think that one of
00:12:15
the things that's holding them back is
00:12:17
their secondary objective game which
00:12:19
isn't as easy for them as it is for some
00:12:20
of the factions that have ranked higher
00:12:22
they're still doing okay for win
00:12:24
percentages though at around 51 percent
00:12:28
next up with seven placings we also have
00:12:30
the adapters custodies again seem like a
00:12:32
pretty convincing middle of the road
00:12:34
type army not too many changes in the
00:12:36
whole nephilim update a big points nerf
00:12:38
to trajan and some small tweaks to a
00:12:40
couple of the dreads they were perhaps
00:12:42
one of the strongest armies in the game
00:12:43
towards the start of the year but that
00:12:45
has rapidly dropped off a bit a lot of
00:12:47
custodies players are looking with
00:12:48
jealousy at the armour of contempt of
00:12:50
other factions terminators the
00:12:52
custodial's nerves do seem to have been
00:12:53
met with quite a lot of negativity but
00:12:55
it seems at least a fair few people are
00:12:57
still playing with them they are perhaps
00:12:58
far from outstanding i have a feeling
00:13:00
that maybe the amount of play with them
00:13:02
might be a bit of a hangover for people
00:13:04
who started or have dusted off
00:13:06
custodials armies earlier in the year i
00:13:08
might not be too surprised to see a
00:13:10
bitter drop off in how many people play
00:13:12
them as the year goes on the win rates
00:13:14
they're around about a 47
00:13:16
a little bit less than a lot of these
00:13:17
other middle of the road factions
00:13:20
next up with eight placings we have the
00:13:22
imperial knights i guess it might just
00:13:24
be a bit of luck that they seem to be
00:13:25
outperforming their chaos cousins a bit
00:13:27
over the past few weeks but their win
00:13:29
percentage also seems a little bit
00:13:30
higher as well 51 versus 49. they do
00:13:33
seem to be a few good ways that you can
00:13:34
play imperial knights and have them be
00:13:36
quite strong the free blade lance seems
00:13:38
usable as raven and house tyrannis are
00:13:40
both very solid on the mechanicus side
00:13:43
and house griffith or that noble
00:13:45
combatant house both of those are pretty
00:13:47
good on imperialism their homages are
00:13:49
incredibly tough with -1 damage and good
00:13:51
stratagems though i think they maybe are
00:13:53
at the mercy of opponents armies a bit
00:13:55
more with terrain or heavy anti-tank
00:13:57
really making some matchups very
00:13:58
difficult for them
00:14:01
finally for this category we've got the
00:14:02
new kids on the block chaos space
00:14:04
marines with 10 placings i've no doubt
00:14:06
that the shiny new colleagues will have
00:14:08
got a whole load of people dusting off
00:14:09
their chaos armies i must admit i think
00:14:12
that chaos maybe more than any of the
00:14:13
other armies did seem to be seeing more
00:14:15
success at the rtts and smaller
00:14:18
tournaments rather than the big grand
00:14:20
tournaments i think maybe part of that
00:14:21
might be due to how soon the chaos book
00:14:24
has dropped some of the gts might not
00:14:26
have been using the decks yet and there
00:14:27
weren't really all that many big
00:14:28
tournaments over the past weekend so
00:14:30
hopefully we'll see some better success
00:14:32
there in the next few weeks so far that
00:14:35
actual win rate at band tournaments
00:14:36
doesn't seem that great though it's all
00:14:38
the way down to 40 percent solely worse
00:14:40
than most of the other mid-placing
00:14:42
armies here i'll be aiming to make a
00:14:44
full video looking at some chaos lists
00:14:46
in the future at the moment though it
00:14:48
seems to be the legions that i would
00:14:49
have guessed that has seen the most play
00:14:51
world bearers makes up about half the
00:14:52
list and empress children and iron
00:14:54
warriors are also popular another factor
00:14:57
holding chaos list back might well be
00:14:59
the lack of some of their models things
00:15:01
like the dark commune and the possessed
00:15:02
haven't come out at this point so when
00:15:04
those kits come out we might see them
00:15:06
take off a bit more
00:15:08
next up we get to the slightly thorny
00:15:10
topic of space marines overall as a
00:15:12
faction i'd argue they're probably
00:15:14
around the mid placings level the
00:15:15
strongest chapters being towards the
00:15:17
upper end of that and the weakest
00:15:19
chapters being far worse just often not
00:15:21
really being played whatsoever space
00:15:23
marines always are a bit hard to rank
00:15:25
because if you clutch them together as
00:15:26
one faction then they look very powerful
00:15:28
but if you split them up into their
00:15:30
individual chapters which i guess you
00:15:32
could argue would be not that different
00:15:34
to things like chaos lesions or elder
00:15:36
craft worlds and all their numbers look
00:15:38
quite weedy on top of that a lot of the
00:15:40
lesser played factions just don't really
00:15:42
see people play them whatsoever due to
00:15:44
other subpactions of space marines being
00:15:46
pretty much flatly better than them i
00:15:48
wouldn't be surprised if things like
00:15:49
imperial office and raven guards saw a
00:15:50
bit more success if they weren't just
00:15:52
overshadowed by other chapters with
00:15:54
arguably better rules in any case
00:15:56
overall in terms of top 10 percent
00:15:58
placings space marines has an overall
00:16:00
faction with yeah 11 different codexes
00:16:03
combined get 20 placings and breaking
00:16:05
that down it seems to be a very space
00:16:07
wolf heavy week this week for some
00:16:09
reason seven space wars three blood
00:16:11
angels two iron hands two salamanders
00:16:14
two black templars one ultramarine one
00:16:16
dark angels one white scars and one
00:16:19
death watch i do find it kind of
00:16:21
interesting that space wolves just seem
00:16:22
to have really taken off for some reason
00:16:24
previously in rankings they've been
00:16:26
doing kind of finer space marines go it
00:16:28
just seems that the last two weeks seem
00:16:29
to have been exceptionally good for
00:16:30
space wolf players blood angels also
00:16:33
have a very strong showing and they have
00:16:34
been doing pretty well recently further
00:16:36
drops to things like sanguine regard and
00:16:38
nephilim only seem to have helped them
00:16:40
better iron hands and black templars
00:16:42
have been solid for a while maybe
00:16:43
slightly better performance than i would
00:16:45
have expected out of salamanders and
00:16:47
slightly worse than i might have
00:16:48
expected out of dark angels overall as a
00:16:51
faction their win percentage is pretty
00:16:52
dreadful at gts though it's
00:16:54
approximately 39
00:16:56
including all the worst flavors of space
00:16:58
marines as well as the good ones space
00:17:00
wolves are around about 42 percent
00:17:02
bloody angels roughly 49 so
00:17:04
significantly higher and dark angels all
00:17:06
the way down to 34 pretty poor
00:17:08
considering their death wing lists have
00:17:10
often been bullying events quite well i
00:17:12
think maybe the secondaries have made
00:17:14
things a lot harder for them previously
00:17:16
they could really easily score loads of
00:17:17
secondaries just by having terminators
00:17:19
park themselves in the center of the
00:17:21
board and on their home field objective
00:17:23
and now that's no longer the case with
00:17:24
the new missions most of the other
00:17:26
chapters just don't seem to be seeing
00:17:28
enough play to get meaningful amounts of
00:17:30
data at least on an individual level and
00:17:32
a few of them have some pretty bad win
00:17:33
percentages i do think that space
00:17:35
marines along with necrons are perhaps
00:17:37
an army that just attracts a lot of
00:17:39
newer players and one of the easiest
00:17:41
ones to jump into and one of the best
00:17:43
known out of 40k i feel like usually
00:17:45
their win percentages will be a little
00:17:47
bit lower at least on a whole faction
00:17:49
basis generally though i think that
00:17:51
marines are doing kind of all right
00:17:52
taking into account lots of decent
00:17:54
placings but some pretty mediocre win
00:17:56
percentages i would probably rank them
00:17:58
about the same level as the other
00:17:59
mid-placing armist if you want to split
00:18:01
the mob into individual factions then
00:18:04
perhaps a lot of the lesser played ones
00:18:05
might be in the tier below
00:18:08
next up though let's start getting into
00:18:10
the really strong armies of 40k these
00:18:12
are the armies that have got between 11
00:18:14
and 20 of the top 10 placings first up
00:18:17
we have death guard they certainly were
00:18:19
an army that was seriously struggling
00:18:20
before but now with a hefty dose of
00:18:22
points cots and play marines that can
00:18:24
take as many melee weapons as you like
00:18:26
they seem to be back in a relatively
00:18:28
good spot moretarian's a bit more viable
00:18:30
pox walkers are back to being pretty
00:18:32
excellent chaff play marines are
00:18:34
actually useful and the terminators are
00:18:36
back to their original cost and all the
00:18:38
nastier with armor of contempt again i
00:18:41
did maybe feel that they were having a
00:18:42
bit more success at the smaller events
00:18:44
compared with the bigger ones but i did
00:18:46
notice that they took the biggest grand
00:18:48
tournament over the previous weekend so
00:18:50
it's hard to deny that mortarians boys
00:18:52
are a bit more of a force to be reckoned
00:18:54
with overall their win rate wasn't
00:18:56
desperately stand out at 49 percent but
00:18:58
it does look like there's a lot of
00:18:59
plague written space marines about these
00:19:01
days
00:19:03
next up and also on 12 placings are the
00:19:06
tao empire one of the factions hit very
00:19:08
hard by the points nerfs crisis suits
00:19:10
going up the core 10 and plasma by five
00:19:13
and then storm surges commanders
00:19:15
broadsides ethereals and a few other
00:19:17
helpful choices or getting increased in
00:19:19
points cost previously to all that i
00:19:22
think you could argue they were one of
00:19:23
the more oppressive armies of the game
00:19:25
along with tyranids and harlequins they
00:19:27
were a bit of an uphill struggle for a
00:19:28
lot of armist but even despite all these
00:19:30
nerfs it still seems they're doing at
00:19:32
least okay a lot of lists seem to use
00:19:34
around two blocks of crisis suits even a
00:19:36
newer higher points as you can still put
00:19:39
loads of buffs on them and make them
00:19:40
efficient as i think a lot of people
00:19:42
were expecting hammerheads and long
00:19:44
strike are seeing a bit more play as
00:19:45
well towel commanders and shadow song
00:19:47
are still out in force and plenty of
00:19:49
cheap screening units like crews and
00:19:51
hounds and things their gt win rate is
00:19:54
around a 51 percent so still not
00:19:56
enormously outstanding compared with the
00:19:57
mid-tier factions but that win rate is
00:19:59
seeing a few more players place highly
00:20:03
finally we have the harlequins they
00:20:04
managed to net themselves 12 top 10
00:20:07
placings and it's kind of hilarious to
00:20:09
still see them doing kind of fine
00:20:11
despite two successive rounds of pretty
00:20:13
hefty nerves compared with where their
00:20:14
codex dropped their void weavers cost a
00:20:17
lot more now they don't get as many lock
00:20:19
dies and can't fire and fade more than
00:20:21
once two of their best say that's were
00:20:23
nerfed and a few of their character
00:20:24
choices reigned in despite all that
00:20:26
though they still seem to be pretty
00:20:28
solid aside from the sadath changes
00:20:30
troops and star weavers didn't really
00:20:31
get a lot weaker they're still massively
00:20:33
strong with their decent pistols and
00:20:35
shooting and they've got crazy movement
00:20:37
to be able to get all over the board
00:20:38
hopefully put themselves in great places
00:20:40
to score objectives tie up enemy units
00:20:43
and they're surprisingly annoying to
00:20:44
remove as well with all their defensive
00:20:46
rules like -1 to hit and preventing
00:20:48
rerolls in terms of win rate they
00:20:50
actually just knows into being the third
00:20:52
best at 53
00:20:54
a little bit above most of the other
00:20:55
mid-tier armies
00:20:58
now though we're getting ourselves into
00:21:00
the armies that look like they're going
00:21:01
to be seeing a lot of good performance
00:21:03
three armies that saw around double as
00:21:05
many places as the next best choices on
00:21:07
the list firstly it does seem that the
00:21:09
necrons really are truly in ascendancy
00:21:11
they scored 23 top 10 placings so around
00:21:14
double as many as harlequins or tau the
00:21:17
faction received a pretty hefty amount
00:21:18
of boosts from the whole warzone
00:21:20
nephilim update i think it's drawn out a
00:21:22
whole load of people who have been
00:21:24
waiting for ages for necrons to be
00:21:25
decently good in 40k people who have
00:21:28
built up armies since their very nice
00:21:29
new released army came out before the
00:21:32
update they were one of the weaker
00:21:33
armies in 40k but they do seem that one
00:21:35
of the armies that all the buffs have
00:21:37
really come together for and seem to be
00:21:39
a challenge for a lot of forces to deal
00:21:41
with first up the silent king is a
00:21:43
resplendent centerpiece and a whole ton
00:21:45
of armies now he gained the core keyword
00:21:47
for some really important buffs
00:21:49
including using his own very good buffs
00:21:51
on himself and it's a pretty excellent
00:21:52
centerpiece for any of the other damage
00:21:54
dealers in the codex things like
00:21:56
destroyers it's fairly tough to take out
00:21:58
it's very hard to charge with his fight
00:22:00
last ability and even if he's not
00:22:01
playing too aggressively he can still be
00:22:03
farming out some pretty high power
00:22:05
anti-tank shots with those maneuvers i
00:22:07
think another reason that's making
00:22:08
necrons particularly strong is that
00:22:10
their secondaries are very easy indeed a
00:22:12
subject that i might come back to in
00:22:14
another video shortly but there's
00:22:16
multiple different ones that can be
00:22:17
maxed out without too much effort it's
00:22:19
very hard to stop them achieving them
00:22:21
unless you're dominating the game
00:22:23
outright it's a really big advantage in
00:22:25
nephilim when there's less secondary
00:22:26
objectives going around and broadly
00:22:28
speaking most of them aren't that easy
00:22:29
to max out reliably on top of that
00:22:32
they've had some fairly wide reaching
00:22:33
points cuts including things like locust
00:22:36
destroyers and heavy destroyers most of
00:22:38
the hq choices tomb blades and a pretty
00:22:40
solid chunk of the rest of the codex
00:22:42
virtually every single vehicle gained
00:22:44
core their command protocols are
00:22:46
somewhat useful now with game long ones
00:22:48
allowing you some soup top melee or
00:22:50
something and i think on top of that at
00:22:52
least compared with some armies necrons
00:22:54
don't really care too much about the cp
00:22:56
limits of nephilim their relics and
00:22:58
warlord traits aren't as outstanding as
00:23:00
many of the other armies and a lot of
00:23:01
their stratagems while interesting just
00:23:03
don't seem quite as vital as some
00:23:05
overall i think they're in a better spot
00:23:07
than they've ever been throughout all of
00:23:08
ninth edition so far one of the top
00:23:10
factions right now for sure in my
00:23:12
previous prediction video i think i
00:23:14
perhaps underestimated the strength of
00:23:15
their secondary objectives if i paid
00:23:17
more attention to those i probably
00:23:19
should have ranked them higher in
00:23:20
hindsight still despite all this their
00:23:22
win percentage isn't actually that
00:23:24
outstanding only 49
00:23:26
so slightly less than half unfairly
00:23:28
middle of the road my guess will be that
00:23:30
there's at least a fair amount of
00:23:31
dilution from newer players who have
00:23:33
only started 40k and 9th i wouldn't be
00:23:36
too surprised if that's a small factor
00:23:38
even with a fairly mediocre win
00:23:39
percentage though they still seem to be
00:23:40
winning lots of tournaments it's not too
00:23:42
hard for necron lists to be scoring in
00:23:44
the high 90s victory points wise
00:23:46
provided you're not absolutely clearing
00:23:48
them off all the objectives
00:23:51
next up with the big three we have the
00:23:52
tyranids 24 of the top 10 placings and
00:23:55
it seems that you can't really keep a
00:23:56
good bog down despite all the crazy
00:23:59
nerfs that they got in the warzone
00:24:00
nephilim update tyranids have been
00:24:02
pretty solid for quite a while to be
00:24:04
honest first it was
00:24:05
leviathan and their double shooting hive
00:24:08
guard then crusher stampede made mostly
00:24:10
monsters really quite efficient then
00:24:12
their codex dropped and was arguably one
00:24:14
of the single most strongest
00:24:16
broken armies at release in august 9th
00:24:18
in the previous version of this video
00:24:20
when we looked at tournament rankings
00:24:22
they got a crazy 42 of the top 10
00:24:24
percent placings and a much much higher
00:24:26
slice percentage-wise as well games
00:24:28
workshop really hit them hard with
00:24:30
massive 10 to 20 points increases on
00:24:33
just about all of their competitive
00:24:34
units and a few army-wide nerfs such as
00:24:37
hive tyrants needing to survive to get
00:24:39
your synapse imperatives and not
00:24:41
allowing you to pick the adaptive part
00:24:43
of your high fleet adaptation reactively
00:24:45
to the opponents despite all this though
00:24:48
tyranids do seem absolutely fine which
00:24:50
kind of speaks for just how crazily far
00:24:52
ahead they were before they still seem
00:24:53
to be one of the top factions of the
00:24:55
game the list that people have been
00:24:57
coming out with do seem to be quite a
00:24:58
lot more varied now i think it's perhaps
00:25:00
quite a good time for the tyranids army
00:25:02
a lot of their units are really quite
00:25:03
effective there's multiple different
00:25:05
strategies that can work well hive
00:25:07
tyrants either on foot or with the
00:25:09
reflow obliterax are both great mass
00:25:11
warriors can come off objectives and are
00:25:14
really hard to shift in leviathan their
00:25:16
psychic phase remains powerful with
00:25:17
neurothrope's zone throbs and some
00:25:19
people are still running my receptors
00:25:21
despite the huge points nerf
00:25:22
tyrannifexes and harpies are both decent
00:25:25
damage dealers as a car effectors
00:25:27
synaptic imperatives can still give you
00:25:29
decent army-wide buffs just keep the
00:25:31
hive tyrant alive and several of the
00:25:33
higher fleets are decently playable
00:25:34
maybe kraken and leviathan being some of
00:25:36
the most outstanding along with placing
00:25:39
very well they still have a very decent
00:25:40
win percentage one of the best at 62
00:25:43
currently it does appear to be just the
00:25:45
single highest even in warzone nephilim
00:25:48
though i wouldn't be too surprised if it
00:25:49
goes down to a bit more moderate levels
00:25:51
over the next few weeks in any case
00:25:53
overall the bugs are still looking
00:25:54
really strong one of the top arm is in
00:25:56
40k still and still a massive force to
00:25:58
be feared
00:26:00
finally taking the single highest number
00:26:02
of top spots out of any of ours on the
00:26:04
list we have the adept heroitus 25
00:26:07
placings
00:26:08
going from maybe somewhat of a middle
00:26:09
tier army to perhaps one of the very
00:26:11
strongest in the entire game i'd say
00:26:13
perhaps two of their biggest assets in
00:26:15
warzone netherland where they cut the
00:26:17
points on zephyrum slightly going down
00:26:19
from 17 to 15 making really quite a
00:26:22
solid unit into an absolutely great one
00:26:24
and at that point's cost they're pretty
00:26:25
much as hard hitting a threat as things
00:26:27
like repentia or retributors as well as
00:26:29
being really quite fast at least okay
00:26:31
toughness too shoot them up with more
00:26:33
than valve's rerolls and they'll blend
00:26:35
most things in combat and between them
00:26:38
they're a pincher and the retributors
00:26:39
you can have a very dangerous elite
00:26:41
infantry squads pinging out of a hidden
00:26:43
terrain souped up with massive damage
00:26:45
boosts and hopefully kill something far
00:26:47
more valuable than themselves more than
00:26:49
valve's excellent to have in the center
00:26:50
of an army celestine's a really annoying
00:26:52
menace flying around and being hard to
00:26:54
put down miracle dies allow you to do
00:26:57
some very reliable things such as crazy
00:26:59
long charges with repentia for example
00:27:01
and feeding sixes into melted damage
00:27:03
dyes doesn't hurt either the whole homie
00:27:06
got a little bit more durable with armor
00:27:07
of content that's also helps the paragon
00:27:10
warsuits which can be an interesting
00:27:11
battle line unit too and all their
00:27:13
secondary objectives like the necrons
00:27:16
are fairly easy as well
00:27:17
most of them are fairly reliable to
00:27:19
score 10 or more points on the scoring a
00:27:21
rough win rate also seems to bear this
00:27:23
out as well 61 at ground tournaments
00:27:26
second highest overall and just behind
00:27:28
the tyranids overall at the moment it
00:27:30
does feel like tyranids sisters and
00:27:33
necrons might be some of the scariest
00:27:34
threats that you can see on the other
00:27:36
side of the table
00:27:38
so just a round up then if you're
00:27:40
interested here are just some lists of
00:27:42
the armies in order as i said i do feel
00:27:44
like both of these are relevant to weigh
00:27:46
up when you're deciding which arm is the
00:27:48
strongest or weakest in 40k and of
00:27:50
course things can get more complicated
00:27:51
with depending on whether you're playing
00:27:53
at a more competitive or casual level or
00:27:55
whether you're playing the nephilim
00:27:56
missions or say 10 best of war in
00:27:59
general though for game balance i must
00:28:01
admit things are looking a lot better
00:28:02
than they have been in quite a long time
00:28:04
there's a whole ton of factions with
00:28:05
around about 50 win percentage at the
00:28:07
moment all of which at least can
00:28:09
decently threaten the top armies even if
00:28:11
they might find them a bit more of an
00:28:12
uphill struggle it's certainly a far cry
00:28:15
to the previous state of affairs when we
00:28:16
had things like tyranids craft worlds
00:28:19
harlequins and tau as what felt like an
00:28:21
entire extra level compared with the
00:28:23
rest of the 40k armies in any case i
00:28:25
hope that's been at least somewhat
00:28:26
interesting i was certainly keen to find
00:28:28
out which armours seem to be doing
00:28:30
better or worse in nephilim and
00:28:32
hopefully this has given you at least
00:28:33
some idea of where things stand right
00:28:35
now as always let me know your thoughts
