I mean, this is obviously set within a very familiar well,

but within this you created your own kind of original story.

Is that the kind of perfect scenario for creatives to have that kind of world

and the rules of an established, have that tonality established,

but have the freedom to create a completely new story of new characters

and still allow you to be sort of storytellers within within that it is.

And it was the it was one of the one of the very first things that Todd

and I talked about when we first set, sat down with each other.

And for me, that idea and it is essential to the franchise of the games.

Each game is its own city setting, set of characters and story,

but they all connect to each other and so for us, as a

as a possibility for something to adapt, just a just a dream come true.

And I mean, there was obviously a huge established sort of fan

base already in line for this.

Do you almost have to ignore them when you're actually in the process

of building this, this series and creating this kind of shot?

How do you guys do it?

Well, look, it's every game is its own thing, right?

So the show is its own thing as well.

You know, we we come into fallout three, you know, we're we're putting

an old 2D game through the lens of how do we do this open world 3D.

We get to fallout four, it's okay.

We got to pretend no one's ever played fallout, before.

And so every time we're doing it, it is sort of translating

what's existed before, even if we made it or didn't

make it, into this new game or new medium

with a show, you know, they point out as like, we're fans as well.

Like, we love fallout.

and the games are so big and there's so many parts

and there's so

many different types of fallout games that we've made that it's

understandable and almost desirable that someone says, this is my favorite one.

Or, you know, I like this one better because they all have their own tones.

and so, you know, I kind of view the show as the next chapter. Yes.

It happens to be a linear format that you're going to sit down and it's

long form, you're going to watch this, you know, giant eight episode epic movie.

you can hold a controller while you're watching.

If you can pause and rewind a little bit.

I mean, I think is the word I mean, I don't know if I could cause

in episode one we see the kind of huge bond.

It's a fantastic kind of.

I just wondered about

how you sort of put all that kind of stuff together

and how involved you are in the kind of, in the, in the effects aspect of it.

And if you spoke to your brother for any kind of to share notes as well.

Well, , I had this terrific lunch with Todd.

Kind of a dream come true to sit down with someone whose work you love so much

and walk out of it with a handshake deal,

that we're going to make something together.

and then immediately became terrified by how on earth.

You know, one of the hallmark things about these games

is the worlds are so big and so beautiful, so vast.

But within that vastness, you can pick up almost any object.

And there's a story there.

You can open almost any journal or comic book in the ruins that you can find.

And there's more pieces of storytelling.

It's one of the hallmarks.

It's one of the things I think is so beautiful about the games.

And so we sort of a little overwhelmed by that.

But I knew right out of the gate that the

way I grew up making film and television, I learned with my with my brother

coming up with my brother was where possible,

if you can find it or build it, make it real.

That always has an emotional impact on the audience, you know?

Yes, we could do it with CG.

We're never going to beat Bethesda in trying to make beautiful computer graphics.

Our secret weapon was

pack an overnight bag, get on a plane, fly down in Namibia,

find somewhere beautiful,

and then bring your cast and crew down there

and try to give them that, that that dose of reality.

Now, I loved the soundtrack as well.

Just I just wanted to talk a little bit about the music

and just the music choices in the games and the series

that's they're so sort of unique and this, but that they're brilliant.

So I just wondered about the kind of idea behind the music and in the game.

And so I suppose, well, it went back to fallout three when we came to do that.

I had one at a radio station in the game where you could hear the past,

you could just tune it in

and also change the emotional nature of what you were doing.

So you have the game soundtrack and can be very dramatic.

Then you decide, you know what, I'm in this video.

You put the radio on and going through all these songs from the '40s

that have this romanticism of the past, and they sound like these, you know,

a lot of these love songs,

these are listen to the lyrics and a lot of it very, very dark

and sort of it's got all these different flavors

that you can kind of put together against the wasteland.

And, you know, I think it's a, you

mentioning it is a good example of what makes fallout special.

You know, you see these action scenes in the show sets of some of these tracks.

it really, it's really unique.
