gasket oil pan gasket and cleaned up the00:00:33
engine bay now we're picking up where we00:00:35
left off and jumping back into action00:00:38
reassembly time we have a brand new00:00:39
water pump coolant hoses belts that we00:00:42
replaced in the previous episode same00:00:44
with the pulleys new tensioners o-rings00:00:46
thermostat and these pipes are made of00:00:48
steel so i quickly coated them with some00:00:50
rust card gotta replace this o-ring here00:01:01
brand new oing going in important to00:01:03
lube up the o-ring00:01:06

cleaning up these intake manifolds they00:03:24
are aluminium so they're going to look00:03:26
spectacular after we're done wiper00:03:27
blasting them the throttle bodies that00:03:29
go here they are also aluminium the00:03:32
housing that is and they will look00:03:34
spectacular as well but there's00:03:36
electronics inside gears and stuff and00:03:38
there's water in the machine i don't00:03:39
want to mix those two so we're not going00:03:41
to blast the throttle bodies instead i'm00:03:43
going to use my old one that's not00:03:45
working and i use it for experiments so00:03:47
i'm just going to bolt it up here that00:03:48
way i can close the holes wherever i can00:03:51
because i want to minimize the amount of00:03:52
media that goes inside but still we're00:03:54
going to thoroughly wash this so i'm00:03:56
going to go ahead and prep all this and00:03:57
then we can start blasting this one is00:03:59
ready for its clash with the aqua blast00:04:00
cabinet i've blocked everything up here00:04:02
the little sensor on the back and then i00:04:04
put foam in here00:04:06
which will well minimize the amount of00:04:08
blasting media that goes inside and make00:04:09
it that much easier to clean00:04:27

i ended up spending more time cleaning00:07:51
up these intake manifolds there's oil00:07:53
residue all over inside and that's a00:07:55
perfect place for media to stick so used00:07:57
about four or five cans of throttle00:07:59
cleaner and these long tubes that come00:08:00
with them and just spray the crap out of00:08:02
them then more water break cleaner00:08:05
compressed air dry them and repeat that00:08:06
many times and there's no chance there's00:08:08
any media left inside00:08:10
and these are the notorious intake00:08:12
manifold gaskets and they're famous for00:08:14
leaking because they're made of some00:08:15
sort of rubber that becomes brittle over00:08:17
time and they start leaking00:08:19
so in the past you saw me using rancho00:08:21
seal sealant to seal them up which works00:08:23
great it's a cheap and functional way to00:08:25
solve this issue but this time around i00:08:27
wanted to try a more elegant solution to00:08:29
this problem and i ended up buying these00:08:31
gaskets from extra classics dot d e00:08:34
and it's actually rather simple gasket00:08:36
goes on here the big one goes on the00:08:38
back and it's gonna seal this up and for00:08:40
the nuts i'm using a socket stuffed with00:08:42
small magnets so i can pick up a nut00:08:44
like this and it's not gonna drop and i00:08:46
can maneuver it underneath the intake00:08:47
manifold and get them all in place00:08:50

must forget the brackets00:09:10
this is so you can lift the engine out00:09:12
of the car00:09:22
return fuel line with brand new hoses00:09:37
next up fuel injectors and i decided to00:09:39
go with brand new ones i could send00:09:41
these out for cleaning but after 3400:09:43
years of use it's time for brand new00:09:44
injectors these are not terribly00:09:46
expensive around 300 or so euros for00:09:49
original bosch injectors and given that00:09:51
we have 12 of them that's not too bad00:09:53
and we're also going to replace fuel00:09:55
pressure regulators first we're going to00:09:56
clean the rail a little bit00:10:11
again starting to sound like a porn00:10:15
i guess if someone walks into the room00:10:17
and they're not seeing what you're00:10:18
watching00:10:20
well it's gonna be awkward00:10:23
now you gotta replace the fuel pressure00:10:24
regulator00:10:29
that's the thing removed there's sand00:10:32

okay let's compare the new one and the00:10:37
old one the only difference between new00:10:39
fuel pressure regulator and the old one00:10:41
is this lip here you can see it's a bit00:10:43
thinner on the new unit but height wise00:10:45
they're exactly the same so the o-ring00:10:46
will still seal and we can clamp it in00:10:48
place and spec wise they're also exactly00:10:50
the same first we need to lube up this00:10:52
o-ring and for that we're going to use00:10:53
vaseline normally we would use silicone00:10:55
grease but silicone and fuel system00:10:57
don't mix together and these o-rings as00:10:59
well as the o-rings on the fuel00:11:00
injectors they're resistant to fuel so a00:11:02
little bit of vaseline can do it any00:11:04
harm00:11:22
brand new stainless steel clamp00:11:25
and this is oe cool line fuel hose00:11:28
heat resistant up to 12500:11:31
degrees celsius00:11:33
so very good quality and that's one fuel00:11:36
rail ready to go in00:11:44
fuel injectors installed the throttle00:11:46
bodies we have to open them up and clean00:11:48
them on the inside but as you can see00:11:50
from the outside they also look rather00:11:52
disgusting and this is not going to go00:11:53
well with our shiny intake manifolds as00:11:56
i said i can't put them into the vapor00:11:57
blasting cabinet because water instead00:11:59
we're going to use my small soda00:12:01
blasting thing from hazard this is not00:12:03
that expensive around 100 euros you just00:12:06
fill it up with soda blasting media00:12:08
hook it up to a compressor and start00:12:10
blasting so anyone at home can use this00:12:12
and if you're a member of the communist00:12:14
party i'm sorry i meant green party know00:12:17
that this is environmentally friendly00:12:19
once you're done blasting you can just00:12:20
rinse it off and it's going to dissolve00:12:22
with water and that's it it's also good00:12:24

better the idle is gonna be and overall00:14:07

all right so now i'm gonna get some00:14:11
sandpaper and gently polish that00:14:18
and that's nice and clean00:14:20
put that on the side and continue with00:14:22
this now we need to remove that thing00:14:25
three screws00:14:40
be very careful not to damage these if00:14:42
you do that it's gonna be real bad put00:14:44
that on the side for now and now we're00:14:46
gonna clean the brushes first gentle00:14:48
compress there00:14:50
also do not put brake cleaner or alcohol00:14:52
or anything on this surface here just00:14:55
clean dry q-tips and that's enough there00:14:57
but this here the brushes we gotta use00:14:59
some brake cleaner00:15:01
or alcohol whatever you have00:15:08

we're ready to reassemble00:15:32

this plate and get to the gears in the00:15:53
back but in my experience i've never had00:15:56

but the magnet is gonna try and pull the00:16:00

you gotta do this gently and quickly as00:16:06

going to do the same with the other one00:16:26
and then we're going to put this back on00:16:28

all right now we're at the point where00:16:41
we need to verify that there are no00:16:42
vacuum leaks if there are this engine is00:16:44
never going to run right so i'm going to00:16:46
break out the smoke machine00:16:50
and there's the smoke00:16:53

let's see are the new gaskets sealing00:16:58

gaskets are not sealing properly00:17:12
isn't that slap mr really fantastic well00:17:14

if it's the same with the other one no00:17:18
it's leaking like crazy over there well00:17:19
at least good thing i checked we could00:17:21
have started the car and it would run00:17:22
poorly all right it's disassembly time00:17:27
so there you can perfectly see the00:17:29
gasket was not cut properly and you can00:17:31
see it on the gasket there where it00:17:32
leaked like crazy yeah that one over00:17:34
there was also not cut properly and it00:17:35
was very close to leaking i didn't think00:17:38
it would make difference because the00:17:39
surface is a lot bigger than that but00:17:40
clearly it makes all the difference00:17:43
and makes it not seal so we have a00:17:44
couple more here that were leaking as00:17:46
well princess hill for the win i've used00:17:48
this many times and even disassembled00:17:49
the intake manifolds after resealed them00:17:52
again with this thing and never had any00:17:53
issues this stuff is very good00:17:56
it hardens really nice and it's elastic00:17:58
so it's not gonna leak there's no way00:18:02
so apply the thin layer on the gasket00:18:03
side as well00:18:05
and now we can install it00:18:13
apply the thin layer rhinestone seal on00:18:15
this side as well00:18:16
and now we can put it back in00:18:24
back to where we were earlier i'm going00:18:25
to leave this for a minute to cure and00:18:27
then we're going to check for vacuum00:18:28
leaks again in the meantime we can focus00:18:30
on the ignition system we have brand new00:18:32
ignition wires ignition coils and donut00:18:34
sensors first we need to install the00:18:37
donut sensor aka cylinder notification00:18:39
sensor on wire number six and twelve00:18:43
this is silicon spray slide the boot00:18:45
over00:18:48
now i need to unscrew the end00:18:55
there's a wood screw inside and that's00:18:56
how it connects to the ignition wire00:19:00
perfect and now comes the donut sensor00:19:03
it's important that the prongs of this00:19:05
point towards the distributor cap so you00:19:07
install it00:19:09
like that00:19:11
now we're going to cut a little bit off00:19:14
that way we have fresh piece of wire now00:19:16
we can put back the boot00:19:19
and now we simply screw back the end on00:19:27
now we need to verify that the00:19:28
connection is good but now we need our00:19:30
multimeter set it to measure resistance00:19:33

they're the only ones that work on this00:23:42
engine there are loads of aftermarket00:23:43
alternatives but none of them work i00:23:46
actually tried after market premium00:23:47
project dubai and i ended up having00:23:49
transmission issues and as soon as i put00:23:51
back bosch units the problem went away00:23:53
m70 it's even pickier because these are00:23:56
very old-school and very special so if00:23:58
you put anything else it's just not00:23:59
going to work properly00:24:01
thankfully nowadays you can actually00:24:02
service under parodies extra classics is00:24:04
offering that service so they tested00:24:06
both of these and one of them was out of00:24:08
spec so they did some stuff to it and00:24:10
brought it within spec you can see the00:24:12
results here and it says good so we're00:24:14
safe to install it and they actually00:24:16
also tested the math cleaning product on00:24:19
these particular maps and it makes zero00:24:21
difference if the math is out of spec00:24:23
and not working properly math cleaning00:24:25
thing it's not going to do anything and00:24:27
i've seen way too many times people00:24:28
throw these away and install cheap00:24:30
aftermarket ones don't do that just have00:24:32
the service this was not that expensive00:24:35
around 100 euros and you're gonna have a00:24:36
perfectly running engine after that00:24:44
the cover00:24:46
perfect give a bit of shine00:24:50
all right now we just need to add oil00:24:52
and we are ready to start first we're00:24:53
going to feed it 10w40 synthetic then00:24:55
we're going to do engine flush we saw00:24:56
that the engine was a little bit sludgy00:24:58
so i definitely want to do that and00:25:00
finally have synthetic 10 w40 with mos 200:25:03
additive you got to remember that these00:25:05
engines were developed to run on mineral00:25:06
oil and they actually prefer it out of a00:25:08
full synthetic so this is a really good00:25:10
oil to run in that engine00:25:16
another question that you always ask00:25:17
yourself whenever you've done some work00:25:19
on the engine00:25:20
does it still work00:25:21
only one way to find out00:25:24

the your light is not going off so00:25:39
the oil pressure light came on00:25:42
it should go off within a couple of00:25:44
seconds the oil level sensor wires are00:25:46
bad but i don't think that should affect00:25:47

and uh i just want to make sure that we00:25:50
do indeed have oil pressure before we00:25:51
run it for longer00:25:53
because that would be bad00:25:58
nope so the engine sounds good but the00:26:00
red oil00:26:01
light is on so let me do some00:26:04
checking because we didn't do anything00:26:05
to mess up with the oil pressure all00:26:07
right so i believe i found the issue i00:26:09
thought it was something electrical or00:26:11
false alarm but00:26:12
nope00:26:13
as you can see i removed the old pan and00:26:15
there's a valve here or piston or00:26:17
whatever that regulates i believe the00:26:20
old pressure00:26:21
and that thing is stuck00:26:23
so what happened i believe is i used00:26:25
brake cleaner to clean this up a little00:26:26
bit before i put the old pen back00:26:29
and then i washed out all of the oil in00:26:30
here and then it just kind of seized00:26:32
inside because it needs to be lubricated00:26:34
in order to move up and down and that's00:26:36
why we have our oil pressure light on so00:26:38
now i'm going to see if i can remove it00:26:39
clean that up lubricate it and that00:26:42
should fix our issue pretty frustrating00:26:43
but00:26:44
yet another lesson we learned00:26:47
that seized solid in there so we need to00:26:49
remove the oil pump there's no way00:26:51
around it00:27:06
okay and that's our oil pump00:27:15
still doesn't want to come out00:27:26
there it is00:27:29
so that's the thing that was stuck00:27:30
pretty grimy00:27:35
sid wrap it's a mess around here but i00:27:37
ended up using fine sandpaper rolled up00:27:40
and then polished the inside of this00:27:41
thing and00:27:43
now it's sliding super easily and smooth00:27:45
so that's what you should do before it00:27:47
was completely stuck so i think this was00:27:49
kind of inevitable regardless of me00:27:52
spraining the brake cleaner or not if it00:27:53
was sitting for a very long time this00:27:55
would probably happen but me using berry00:27:57
cleaner definitely contributed huge00:27:59
lesson for me and this is something that00:28:00
i'm to check pretty much on every m7000:28:03
from now on just to see if this thing is00:28:05
working properly now i'm going to dump00:28:06
some fresh oil through it00:28:10
like that goes all the way in and comes00:28:12
out super00:28:14
smoothly this thing up as well00:28:21
clean the spring00:28:24
now i need to compress that00:28:26
and then get this clip in there to hold00:28:29
it00:28:30
this00:28:35

it's in give it more oil00:28:46
and then time to put this back on00:28:52

spray brake cleaner directly at the oil00:29:08
pump i'm not that crazy but rather00:29:10
around it to clean the oil pan and then00:29:12
i followed up with fogging oil for men00:29:14
but i guess enough brake cleaner got in00:29:15
there and it was sitting for two weeks00:29:17
so it seized up00:29:19
so if you're working on the bottom end00:29:20
of this engine or generally have the oil00:29:22
and oil pan removed that's something to00:29:24
keep in mind i sure will00:29:27
so let's try this again00:29:33
and it's off00:29:36
