Елена Саканян, Алексей Погребной, Майя Меркель, Александр Жуковский, Марина Разбежкина, Семен Райтбурт – имена героев первых выпусков "Островов" были не слишком известны за пределами профессионального кинематографического круга. По первоначальному замыслу каждый новый выпуск должен был стать для зрителя открытием нового "острова", обладающего своей суверенной территорией в искусстве и, как правило, непонятого или обойденного всеобщим вниманием. Известность, когда она освещает образы людей уже ушедших от нас, нередко бывает всего лишь формой забвения. Второстепенные биографические факты, лежащие на поверхности житейские мотивы нередко заслоняют глубинную и всегда неповторимую взаимосвязь творческого дара и судьбы выдающегося художника.
