00:00:01
here I met a guy who shoots
00:00:03
videos for supposedly artists, went to an
00:00:06
electronic music festival on the coast,
00:00:08
talked to its creator and found out
00:00:10
why festivals are almost never
00:00:12
held on the beach, went to the brand
00:00:14
store of the super fashionable Korean brand
00:00:16
Other Error and tried something that still
00:00:20
moved and yes How could I forget? Of
00:00:24
course we talked about money money
00:00:27
money brings a lot of money
00:00:30
you count zeros Yes yes I count
00:00:34
[music]
00:00:43
zeros You know surprisingly a Korean
00:00:45
musician earns much better than the
00:00:47
Russians much much better than the Russians
00:00:49
I want to say that as a person who
00:00:51
was connected with an Aidar who saw the stats of
00:00:53
both artists and the stat in Russia
00:00:56
and the stat in Korea of the same level, plus or minus,
00:00:58
musicians will earn better here
00:01:00
than in Russia; this is due to the cost of
00:01:02
streaming in the first place and
00:01:05
how much money we pay for a subscription in
00:01:07
Korea, from one audition we get
00:01:11
about three won; in any case, Korea
00:01:15
now has Hi and even a small
00:01:17
musician of some kind an en bish nay can
00:01:19
audition for the same thing much
00:01:22
better than an irb musician of the same level
00:01:26
in Russia; an important part of income for
00:01:30
most
00:01:32
musicians these are
00:01:36
concerts, performances at
00:01:39
a festival and the like, let us
00:01:42
pay you 100,000 dollars and you play
00:01:45
concerts in Europe and they say 100,000
00:01:46
dollars For us, it’s twice in Seoul,
00:01:49
going there, I don’t know, to two places and
00:01:52
staying there for 2 hours at the event
00:01:54
Sorry Rhea,
00:01:56
goodbye top singers
00:01:58
get
00:02:05
something like
00:02:06
this
00:02:08
now you count zeros Yes yes I count
00:02:13
zeros 40 million won 40 million won yes 40 million
00:02:19
won this is also a
00:02:22
performance such a fee for big
00:02:26
musicians many
00:02:28
famous rap lessons for beginners Yes they
00:02:36
make good money Yes they make good money
00:02:38
because training is
00:02:42
expensive for money for money Yes for money
00:02:46
my name is Anthony King I’m a director a
00:02:48
professional
00:02:50
dancer this big guy’s name is Anthony
00:02:54
and as you can see he’s a typical
00:02:56
[music]
00:02:58
Korean he’s a dancer director and shoots
00:03:01
a lot of videos for Korean artists
00:03:04
including big pop stars For
00:03:06
example his
00:03:07
[ music]
00:03:15
work or this or
00:03:20
this and Yes, he is an American who
00:03:25
lives here sometimes I work as a dubbing actor
00:03:28
to voice various things born and
00:03:32
raised in America in New Jersey moved to
00:03:34
Korea about 3 years ago even a little more than
00:03:36
3 years Why did you move to
00:03:39
Korea Why I moved to Korea sounds
00:03:42
like an unusual story Yes, it’s super
00:03:45
strange, to be honest, many of my friends
00:03:47
who live in America ask me the
00:03:49
same thing,
00:03:51
it’s a long story, but I’ll tell you
00:03:54
briefly in
00:03:56
201 Yazda team with my
00:04:01
friends and we got to the casting in the video of the
00:04:04
kpop group be the song itself
00:04:08
was called it was filming in Chinatown
00:04:11
filmed by a large Korean production know
00:04:13
bros from Korea they all flew to
00:04:17
New York China Town for filming I don’t
00:04:19
know why they wanted to film three
00:04:22
black dancers only God knows
00:04:24
why they probably wanted to add
00:04:26
me to the video I saw this video from the
00:04:32
producer yo I want to be just
00:04:35
like you guys put on the lights and shoot on
00:04:37
camera and stuff and they said
00:04:39
ok come to Korea I knew
00:04:43
from about the end of high school beginning of college
00:04:45
that kpop was going to be something big I knew it was
00:04:48
there will be an international phenomenon,
00:04:50
or rather kpop already existed, but I initially knew
00:04:53
that it would be even more
00:04:54
famous last year, working with a
00:04:58
group called
00:05:00
Yes, it’s really not just that there are
00:05:03
many difficulties in the process, now it’s not the
00:05:06
artists who rule everything, but the management of large
00:05:09
companies, the general director, says what
00:05:12
to do. Well, look how
00:05:15
It turns out they give you a song And you
00:05:18
show your vision, storyboard,
00:05:20
moodboard, you make this project
00:05:23
look more expensive and sweeter, you
00:05:25
dive into the storyboard, break the
00:05:27
frames into separate scenes and they tell you
00:05:30
Change here Change this and I think it won’t
00:05:32
tell the full story our
00:05:34
heroine and so on blah blah and so they
00:05:36
look at every detail I’m not saying that
00:05:38
roing Yes it definitely does that But
00:05:41
basically this is how work with
00:05:43
big labels is built First you dive into the
00:05:46
process of creating a storyboard when it’s
00:05:48
approved you can start
00:05:50
visualization where you will reveal the essence of the clip
00:05:52
through successful shots; a storyboard with
00:05:55
sketches is something that you keep in your
00:05:57
thoughts, sometimes it’s very timely.
00:06:00
This means that your shots and ideas are
00:06:02
original. But you have to find shots in
00:06:04
other clips that will be combined with
00:06:06
your ideas; this is a tricky part of
00:06:09
the process. So check it out in short store and there is
00:06:17
no one here, something unknown white
00:06:20
Probably you need to scan
00:06:23
the FD first. So, fortunately for me, I have
00:06:28
my favorite Kazakh card, it always
00:06:30
hands me when I travel, so we
00:06:35
insert 11 won Well, nothing in principle is not
00:06:39
so difficult to figure out, you can figure it out even without
00:06:41
knowing
00:06:45
Korean And in the videos of Korean artists there are
00:06:48
always a lot of special effects, yes. They
00:06:50
love it. Yes, in any music video from the KP
00:06:54
group that you can watch now, there are a
00:06:56
huge number of visual effects.
00:06:59
Firstly, the special effects look cool.
00:07:01
This is a cool trend and the clips will not visually
00:07:04
age for many years; secondly, there are
00:07:08
not so many in Korea
00:07:09
different locations for filming
00:07:13
outdoors, a lot of things look the same, the cities are
00:07:17
not very different
00:07:19
visually, so they shoot everything in studios
00:07:22
and invest a lot of money in design and
00:07:24
props, for example, you want to shoot something
00:07:27
like in the desert, but it won’t work out here, there are no
00:07:30
deserts, so they use chromakey and
00:07:34
special effects like that they can take you
00:07:36
even to the desert or to outer space,
00:07:38
they need the Jungle to use special effects, whatever they
00:07:41
want, special effects I
00:07:45
saw once Why can’t they go to
00:07:48
the desert or the Jungle is much more expensive Yes, you have
00:07:51
to fly to another
00:07:53
country, for example in America You just
00:07:56
you can go to another state or shoot
00:07:58
where you live, if you are a resident of California,
00:08:01
you can find a desert a couple of hours
00:08:03
away, you know what I mean, there are many
00:08:06
options for places with trees or just
00:08:09
unique different locations for
00:08:11
location shooting, for example, beautiful mountains
00:08:14
or something similar here in In Korea, they
00:08:18
have mountains, but it’s a small country and there aren’t
00:08:20
many locations for visuals. And those that
00:08:23
exist have already appeared in
00:08:28
videos here several times and there’s a cool location for
00:08:31
location shooting, it’s been filmed 150
00:08:35
times already. Of course, local labels want to
00:08:37
refresh the picture, they want something new
00:08:40
thanks to special effects you can get
00:08:42
endless possibilities for visuals You
00:08:44
can create anything let's take
00:08:46
a video for a kpop Idol group from one of
00:08:49
my friends who has actually been working in the
00:08:51
industry for a while when labels
00:08:54
watch the finished video they check it
00:08:56
frame by frame Because it is impossible for
00:08:59
it to even look ugly frame by frame
00:09:02
frame by frame to make sure every
00:09:04
second the artist looks cute and beautiful
00:09:07
This is crazy but in hip-hop in Korean
00:09:10
hip-hop sometimes videos are shot with their
00:09:13
own money in the frame only what
00:09:16
is on the street itself sometimes it looks
00:09:19
cooler than in kpop video in any case,
00:09:21
kpop clips cost a lot of money,
00:09:23
friends, I don’t just make beautiful blogs
00:09:25
from other countries, I’m also the
00:09:27
head of a marketing agency,
00:09:29
we promote artists on the Internet,
00:09:30
we do this for more than 10 years, we have
00:09:33
almost 40 people working for us,
00:09:34
this is probably the largest marketing team
00:09:37
which works with musicians in
00:09:39
Russia and we help promote tracks,
00:09:41
clips, concerts, we comprehensively guide
00:09:44
musicians, artists, we help with the
00:09:46
artist’s positioning strategy,
00:09:48
we do management, we work with TV
00:09:51
and radio, reviews of our work,
00:09:52
including from famous artists, I don’t know Hands
00:09:56
Up Rikota and many other artists You
00:09:59
can read the links in the description
00:10:01
there, you can read our cases, we
00:10:03
publish a lot of things on our blog
00:10:05
upsound org, interesting marketing
00:10:08
solutions that you can also take and
00:10:10
apply at home and Yes, if you are an artist
00:10:12
musician And you want to increase your
00:10:14
audience, your popularity and number
00:10:16
the money you earn from music,
00:10:18
follow the link in the description,
00:10:20
leave a request and my colleagues, our
00:10:23
managers will listen to your music, give
00:10:25
feedback and prepare a media plan for
00:10:28
promoting
00:10:29
and sharing your creativity What is the average price for
00:10:33
creating a good video in
00:10:36
Korea, a lot depends on the genre, depends on the
00:10:40
style I know what is the minimum price for Kep
00:10:43
- This is about 100,000 and this is If
00:10:46
we talk about the minimum acceptable
00:10:48
quality in a p-
00:10:50
clip, the largest budget for a video
00:10:53
that I had in
00:10:55
Korea is
00:10:58
about
00:11:00
dollars Yes, what a huge amount for me
00:11:05
in the kpop industry for a kpop Idol
00:11:08
group, this is considered small
00:11:11
budget you know what I mean but for me
00:11:14
it was a big budget I came from
00:11:16
America and worked with independent
00:11:18
creative artists for $3,000
00:11:21
with budgets of $3,000 where the entire
00:11:23
budget goes to Me and my team you know
00:11:26
just shooting on the streets of New York I came
00:11:28
to the conclusion is that you need a budget for filming,
00:11:30
hire a team of gaffers and lighting
00:11:33
designers to create the
00:11:35
set design and the rest of the
00:11:37
staff, this sounds cool because you
00:11:39
finally got a good budget, but
00:11:42
when you start implementing the project,
00:11:44
all this money goes to the video by
00:11:47
itself you wouldn’t take all these 120,000 for
00:11:49
yourself, it’s just that the whole amount goes directly to the shooting,
00:11:51
you may not be able to tell if
00:11:54
the producer is poorly versed in the financial
00:11:56
nuances of production, you can end up
00:11:58
losing money. So you need to be
00:12:01
super super careful and if the company
00:12:03
gave you a big budget they expect
00:12:05
a lot from you in
00:12:07
return the most expensive video I
00:12:10
shot was the
00:12:11
performer
00:12:14
[music]
00:12:21
dnl I think it cost about
00:12:27
20
00:12:29
[music]
00:12:39
So on the set I shot a video
00:12:42
for one performer this video
00:12:44
was mostly shot on location I
00:12:47
found a lot We filmed outdoor locations
00:12:50
during the winter. It was the last coldest
00:12:54
winter in Korea for many years. It
00:12:57
was cold. It was a cold day that winter. It was insanely
00:13:01
cold. My fingers were numb. When I was
00:13:04
shooting with a drone, the frame was aimed at the
00:13:07
water through
00:13:09
a ledge. And when I took this shot, the drone
00:13:13
was charged but the controller
00:13:17
was almost discharged and the panel just turned off and
00:13:21
this is exactly the moment when I thought
00:13:24
Damn [ __ ] Drone This was the will of despair The
00:13:28
drone is floating in the air, roughly speaking, there is
00:13:31
concrete And here there is water all around The drone was
00:13:35
close to the surface And if it
00:13:37
flew down then I would have climbed into the water to
00:13:41
save him, but he was hovering
00:13:43
above and I was thinking what should I do
00:13:47
because I already took half the necessary
00:13:49
frames from the drone, half of you understand
00:13:52
half, but I didn’t save the files at all. That
00:13:56
’s why I was like, I need this
00:13:59
drone if it falls into the water then
00:14:01
I'll be sued or something
00:14:03
like that you know So I watched as the
00:14:06
Drone slowly descended over the next 10-15 minutes
00:14:09
and I tried to catch
00:14:12
it and while I was catching it the sensors went off
00:14:15
that someone
00:14:18
was approaching it so the Drone started
00:14:20
dodge and approach the water and then I
00:14:23
enter the water, standing already half in the water,
00:14:26
I realized Nako, it burns cold and the
00:14:30
guy who works with me
00:14:32
holds my hand while I try to
00:14:34
catch the Drone in the end the Drone
00:14:37
flies close enough for me to
00:14:39
grab it, caught it while the
00:14:42
propellers were spinning, it was very dangerous because my
00:14:45
fingers could get caught in the propellers. I would
00:14:47
have cut myself or lost my fingers, and the
00:14:51
moment I grabbed the Drone, the
00:14:53
propeller motor started working very hard,
00:14:56
he tried to fly
00:14:57
away. I’m holding the Drone tightly, it’s shaking
00:15:00
in my hand, God. how lucky I am, I
00:15:03
need him so much And at that moment when I was holding
00:15:05
the Drone, the guy who was holding me is a
00:15:07
Korean actor, he hasn’t even worked
00:15:10
on such production topics before, he doesn’t
00:15:12
speak English well, but I need his
00:15:14
help I tell him Bro, press the
00:15:17
shutdown button, press him he says that I
00:15:19
tell him turn it off, turn it off and I hold it like
00:15:23
this The drone almost flew out he stretches his
00:15:26
hand over the propellers presses
00:15:30
the key he had to hold it for 3
00:15:33
seconds The drone turned off and I was like Oh God
00:15:37
I’m so happy and then I remember the people
00:15:40
from the NI team all fingers on place Yes, all
00:15:44
my fingers are fine you see my
00:15:46
fingers right now they are safe
00:15:48
dude Pressed the button perfectly and I saved all
00:15:51
the frames saved the Drone and immediately after that I
00:15:53
charged the drone control panel good
00:15:55
ending In general, it’s about 12 at night
00:15:59
I arrived at
00:16:00
some village But this is of course not a
00:16:03
village, it’s a district of Seoul and it’s
00:16:07
quite central but it looks
00:16:11
authentic small houses I was actually
00:16:13
told that there’s nothing to do here at night that
00:16:16
it’s a private sector and nothing actually
00:16:19
happens and it’s true nothing
00:16:21
happens but it’s cool this vibe is
00:16:24
purely Korean
00:16:27
authentic and only me here I’m causing
00:16:31
some confusion, people are a little worried
00:16:34
that some guy is walking around with a camera, but I’m
00:16:37
trying to be quiet and not
00:16:39
disturb anyone, just to capture the beauty that
00:16:43
people have here, and there’s a lot of it. Well,
00:16:48
the name of the village if anyone is in Seoul
00:16:50
decides to go, it’s
00:16:53
called buon hanok I hope I’m
00:16:56
pronouncing it 100% wrong, I’m
00:17:00
sure of it But but how can I friends This is a
00:17:05
very authentic quiet calm place
00:17:09
with such cool Korean
00:17:12
architecture I’m not sure if it’s something
00:17:14
old, most likely it’s all
00:17:16
sorts of new houses but in general with the
00:17:19
architecture in Korea, I have to say so-so,
00:17:22
that is, everything, plus or minus,
00:17:25
looks like concrete boxes,
00:17:29
somehow they don’t bother too much.
00:17:30
The only thing that gives the desired wipe such a
00:17:34
cool cool authenticity is the
00:17:36
signs, signs, glowing all sorts of boxes.
00:17:40
That is, their architecture is like
00:17:53
this T It’s very
00:17:57
safe, in principle, you can leave
00:17:59
now for 30 minutes, you’ll come back and most likely
00:18:01
99.9 everything will be exactly as you
00:18:04
left it. Security for me now
00:18:06
has played a big role because, as I
00:18:09
already said, I lived there for six months now in
00:18:11
Buenos Aires, it’s a beautiful city I
00:18:13
really liked Buenos Ice, there are still
00:18:15
problems with petty theft and the
00:18:18
fact that you always have to be on guard,
00:18:19
you can’t put your phone down, not to mention
00:18:21
you can’t place cameras, you can’t
00:18:23
put your phone next to you
00:18:25
because in general they can you can
00:18:27
someone can someone pass by on a bike
00:18:29
grab him and ride away Even in the language there are
00:18:32
different styles of address if you
00:18:35
are talking to someone who is older than you You
00:18:38
should use the chma form of address
00:18:41
which is considered more respectful
00:18:44
And if you are talking to someone who
00:18:46
younger people can speak Poma which is less
00:18:49
formal and if you are talking to
00:18:52
older people You should use Non Which
00:18:55
means high politeness
00:18:58
and here in Korea when you work with
00:19:00
label companies you don't address
00:19:03
people As such you don't address them
00:19:06
by their name but address them according to their
00:19:10
position Yes, as a deputy or
00:19:14
general director, it's definitely
00:19:17
something that took me a while to
00:19:19
adjust to and get used to because in
00:19:21
America I'm just like Well yeah hey
00:19:25
Boris We're going to do this I can't
00:19:28
call you Boris but I have to call you
00:19:30
producer assistant whatever but this
00:19:32
must
00:19:35
be the climate, the climate is not the most suitable
00:19:39
Well, at least for me with my
00:19:41
background because of course I’m used
00:19:43
to hot to hot summers But this in my
00:19:47
case is hot Ukrainian Summer is hot
00:19:49
Moscow summer but here Summer is hot
00:19:51
in a different way And here there is wild humidity that is
00:19:54
now we are talking here
00:19:55
more or less normally. Right now,
00:20:00
and VSU will say what it feels like
00:20:04
today, it feels like p 42 it feels like you
00:20:07
will die, it feels like you will die because
00:20:09
all the people on the street are walking in such
00:20:10
slow motion with Ai coffee Because what
00:20:13
if you walk faster It
00:20:14
makes your heart
00:20:18
feel so bad sometimes it's too
00:20:22
quiet I was watching a few
00:20:25
music
00:20:27
videos are in the next frame we're filming
00:20:30
this And I'm like yo Bring the energy
00:20:34
the mood everything needs to be
00:20:37
livelier we're filming this crazy
00:20:39
kpop music video but that's it
00:20:42
So quiet and silent walks on
00:20:44
tiptoe I'm like this with myself I carry
00:20:49
America when I say that I'm shooting an
00:20:51
exciting video and catchy bright it
00:20:54
doesn't matter This means that everyone will
00:20:56
bring energy to the set, not
00:20:59
only the artists but also the film crew and the
00:21:01
like I was on the set of
00:21:03
several music videos but everyone
00:21:05
was very quiet and I felt
00:21:07
very strange very quiet on set
00:21:09
Yes on the set during filming
00:21:12
of course it is obvious that when you press the
00:21:15
record button everyone has to be quiet
00:21:18
But even when a break has started or the
00:21:20
preparation of a new shot When can you
00:21:22
make noise A everyone is super super quiet super
00:21:25
respectful But fortunately K-pop
00:21:28
artists are always quite
00:21:30
professional even if you quietly
00:21:32
tell them give me energy he will do everything
00:21:35
cool Even in a Quiet environment yes yes but
00:21:40
Definitely I'm still shocked by the
00:21:42
method here When I worked with the
00:21:44
artists I was surprised them with their approach
00:21:47
They thought it was weird like Wow like
00:21:49
this is some kind of different approach Because I
00:21:51
like to talk laugh joke I'm
00:21:53
like Yeah let's start let's make the
00:21:56
next shot cool very active
00:21:59
Sometimes I even dance they just look
00:22:01
at me like this guy
00:22:03
[ music]
00:22:08
does, by the way. Of the minuses, I
00:22:10
now remembered that, after all, Korea is
00:22:12
still a Russian country in many things,
00:22:15
they may not let you into the club
00:22:17
Because you are a foreigner here Yes, indeed,
00:22:19
due to, again, many features, in
00:22:22
particular the American base, which was
00:22:23
located in in the center of the city with a gigantic
00:22:25
number of over 10,000 American
00:22:27
soldiers who tended to go
00:22:30
to clubs, go to establishments where
00:22:32
they hung out, I don’t know, cute Koreans
00:22:34
started fights with their vanilla music.
00:22:36
Yes, there or there, well, in general, one way or
00:22:38
another, the conflict often began because of
00:22:41
foreigners and in connection with this, foreigners
00:22:44
of any kind are
00:22:46
still simply not allowed in some establishments, like even a
00:22:48
girl ate, it was the most International
00:22:50
street in Korea Ywon and one of the
00:22:53
largest clubs, respectively, we were
00:22:56
told by foreign makers and you are simply
00:23:00
automatically recorded in the category of Trouble
00:23:02
Makers because that you don’t, well, that is, they
00:23:04
can no longer segment
00:23:06
foreigners. That is, it seems to me that
00:23:07
this foreigner is good, but this one
00:23:08
is bad, so I mean, they can, but we, as a
00:23:10
cluster, are just a dropout from some
00:23:18
establishments Yes, this clip was created by my
00:23:20
friend Yes, he is the director of this clip Anton
00:23:24
Stavitsky Anton if you're watching this
00:23:32
[music]
00:23:42
This is
00:23:43
crazy, great
00:23:45
vibe, damn
00:23:49
cool, location shooting and national
00:23:53
flavor, it's just mind-
00:23:56
blowing
00:24:08
Look at this location and everything around it's
00:24:12
crazy
00:24:13
cool production Just
00:24:16
fire,
00:24:18
plague The clip itself looks very
00:24:22
expensive, very
00:24:24
cinematic
00:24:26
yes
00:24:28
Damn I'll keep it oh Damn
00:24:34
fire I fell in love with this
00:24:37
video I definitely like this video
00:24:40
more
00:24:41
[music]
00:24:43
all of
00:24:46
them they dance it's cool about this
00:24:49
video I want to say that I really
00:24:51
like that this is not a dance video
00:24:53
but all the choreography is succinctly included in the
00:24:55
video this is what - something special
00:24:58
elements of national dance look
00:25:00
cool in a modern
00:25:06
way and Korean
00:25:09
pop music People work like crazy Hellish
00:25:14
contracts in some places don’t reach 90 to 10 in
00:25:18
favor of the label Even this 10% Don’t forget
00:25:21
they are divided into 101 participants of the IP
00:25:26
Co. they are launching a big
00:25:31
stage training, that is, they
00:25:33
can prepare for their debut for many years and years, and
00:25:37
if they sign a contract for 5 or 7
00:25:39
years, then it begins to take effect only at the
00:25:41
moment of debut. That is, what was before the
00:25:45
money they already owe, but the countdown of their
00:25:48
contract has not yet begun. there are those 7
00:25:50
years that they have to work or
00:25:56
10 they have to spend this money that was spent
00:26:00
on their training, invested in their videos and
00:26:02
so on to work out on the one hand
00:26:05
the situation is similar to what it looks like
00:26:07
here in Russia but we don’t have such a long
00:26:11
training stage here we haven’t heard about it at all.
00:26:15
Therefore, if artists think that
00:26:17
in Russia the contracts of labels are strict, then
00:26:21
look at what it looks like in Korea.
00:26:23
Korea is actually
00:26:25
really tough, so I heard that
00:26:28
90% Maybe they don’t open up for this,
00:26:32
of course, confidential information about it is
00:26:34
shared between 10 participants there groups
00:26:36
Here they are, especially at the beginning, and
00:26:39
they also invested you in a long, long time
00:26:41
and then you continue there for many years And
00:26:44
your career ends at like 27 for the
00:26:47
majority Therefore, the sooner you
00:26:49
start, the better, that is, you
00:26:51
started your debut at 17 18 years old and that’s it,
00:26:54
you still
00:26:56
have a comeback for many years, it’s called, that is, you
00:26:59
made your debut You have a debut
00:27:01
album, usually a small one
00:27:03
like a single Yes, a debut song And you
00:27:06
start just showing off all over the show That
00:27:09
is, all these Here is the music Music Bang,
00:27:11
for example Music Bang - this is a show in which
00:27:13
artists come and just perform on stage,
00:27:15
that is, there are two MC
00:27:16
presenters, they introduce groups, sometimes they
00:27:21
do some small interviews with them and everyone performs. That is, you
00:27:22
watch Like a concert Every day in the morning
00:27:25
every day in the evening in different ways and at the end they
00:27:27
choose like the best group of the best the
00:27:29
best song there of this week that is,
00:27:31
this is the theme and so they live, that is, from
00:27:34
debut to cambe then to the next cambe
00:27:36
the company pays for you That is, you
00:27:38
live in their apartment yes which O
00:27:40
provide for you, it happens, of course, that
00:27:42
the apartment is also not super, there are some really
00:27:44
good ones, some in the complexes you are
00:27:47
allowed to be in physical shape there so that you
00:27:48
maintain dancing there, all these lessons and
00:27:52
so on. That is, they invest in you
00:27:55
as an agency could help you so that
00:27:58
your path Slava Was
00:28:00
in short,
00:28:02
firstly, this is a media that is friendly with
00:28:06
them. They can put the artist’s music
00:28:11
in rotation on a radio
00:28:13
TV program or some content
00:28:17
on
00:28:20
YouTube and they can organize a live
00:28:23
performance for the
00:28:26
artist to perform no matter what
00:28:29
happens. I saw guys with the flu and with a
00:28:31
temperature of 40° who came out and
00:28:34
danced on stage for 3 hours, three damn
00:28:37
hours under the color of ice light and so on and
00:28:40
so on and so on, I saw guys
00:28:42
who danced with cracked ribs with a
00:28:45
diagnosis, they came out and danced and not
00:28:48
because management was driving them no,
00:28:50
because they said No, I’ll go, I can, and I don’t
00:28:52
know the
00:28:54
demons there. They danced there, and so on and so forth. Well
00:28:57
done, unrealistic
00:29:00
ability to work, they can’t get lost, I don’t
00:29:02
know, you can’t have a
00:29:04
situation where an artist got drunk somewhere and it
00:29:06
got lost and the next day you have it.
00:29:08
Well, somewhere there, I don’t know, somewhere in the hairpins of
00:29:11
London. Either there or in the hairpins of something,
00:29:13
it’s lying around and, in principle, it was never
00:29:14
found so it didn’t perform, that doesn’t
00:29:16
happen. Well here in Russia, that is, I can
00:29:18
speak for Russia for Russian artists,
00:29:21
it’s clear that it’s a busy schedule, but in
00:29:23
general you’re a free person. That is, you can say at
00:29:26
any time
00:29:28
Damn, I want to. Well, I’ll have a rest
00:29:31
for the next month, don’t give me
00:29:33
any concerts. I went to the Maldives.
00:29:35
I’ll sunbathe, get inspired, or now I
00:29:38
want to pee a little album. That’s something, that
00:29:40
is, you freely choose every
00:29:44
day how to live, but here, after all, this is a
00:29:46
specific army in fact, that is, you
00:29:50
live according to a schedule, you cannot
00:29:53
merge with you, you have a soup of obligations if
00:29:55
you have to stand up 4 am
00:29:57
everyone gets up at 4 am with an alarm clock urgently
00:30:00
usually all the fans know where the
00:30:03
dorms of their favorite bands are, that is,
00:30:05
they really know and they can stand around at night
00:30:07
waiting they know that no one will come
00:30:09
to the dorm during the day because they are all busy
00:30:11
they return home there at 4 am there
00:30:13
at 5 am then get up there again a
00:30:15
few hours later one of my goals is
00:30:19
to succeed
00:30:21
As an Independent
00:30:26
artist it is much easier for some company
00:30:30
to promote my
00:30:33
music but still they may
00:30:38
ask me to do some
00:30:40
specific music something not in my
00:30:43
style and I don’t
00:30:47
like it Freedom is my Credo And every
00:30:55
company influences the
00:30:58
music of its artist all their time
00:31:00
It’s scheduled by management Well, it’s not
00:31:03
like they have their own
00:31:04
schedule that they
00:31:06
can obey themselves there is
00:31:09
a schedule here is the day of the concert. I don’t know
00:31:12
everything. We get up at 600c. You all have
00:31:14
make-up done there in a separate hotel room and
00:31:19
all this happens there far before
00:31:20
breakfast, all this is all super early. What does
00:31:23
super early mean? This means that on the day of
00:31:24
the concert your artist slept well
00:31:27
there are 4-5 hours before that, then this is a
00:31:30
trip to the site, then this is a rehearsal, a
00:31:32
second rehearsal, then this is 3 hours
00:31:35
or 2 hours of performance in front of the public,
00:31:37
then this is fan ranks, then this is VIP,
00:31:39
all sorts of goodies, and so on and so on,
00:31:41
then we remove makeup on next
00:31:43
day Same thing
00:31:45
[music]
00:31:50
the most important thing is that I think that 50% of my health is
00:31:53
left in the second round You seem to
00:31:55
grow old year by year conflict from beginning
00:31:58
to end is always absolutely a conflict between
00:32:02
cultures this is a conflict between schedules
00:32:04
this is a conflict between people this is a conflict of
00:32:07
this image production of a k-pop
00:32:10
concert with people from management who
00:32:13
ask you to tell us a GPS point at the
00:32:16
airport. Where will there be four
00:32:19
buses that will pick up the artists
00:32:21
GPS point just think about it, not just
00:32:24
take us out of the airport and
00:32:26
put us in our veins there are no GPS points
00:32:29
that a month in advance should already be
00:32:31
sent and be in their possession in printed
00:32:32
form so that they know what to do if
00:32:36
suddenly you are not at the airport and so
00:32:38
on, well, the trick is that they wo
00:32:39
n’t know anything anyway if you are not
00:32:41
at the airport because no one doesn’t even
00:32:43
read these books, every step, absolutely
00:32:46
every step, he asks you again what’s
00:32:48
funny about a funny story, it’s
00:32:50
always Paris. Parisian drivers love
00:32:52
them, these are the professional transport
00:32:54
companies that we have. Once with a group
00:32:57
located in Vienna itself, we drove into the
00:33:00
gates of the site where we were driving to
00:33:03
Paris. a gigantic platform
00:33:12
with an eight-thousand-meter peak at nothing like a speed of 5
00:33:15
km HF and you just drive through the gates of an
00:33:18
artist who is being detained at the border,
00:33:20
this is also absolutely a magnificent story.
00:33:22
I think I still have it somewhere. There is
00:33:23
a photo of the giant Chinese
00:33:26
artist Je Wang who is sitting under a
00:33:28
sign like police information. in
00:33:32
Sheremetyevo with his passport confiscated, the
00:33:35
only one who was not released from the airport,
00:33:37
we are trying With all our might, he made fun of us
00:33:44
as if we were already dead. Well, on the one hand,
00:33:48
we think it’s good that there are seven of them in the group.
00:33:52
So, but they couldn’t help but notice him about the
00:33:55
guy. It’s a pity, he’s sitting there and he
00:33:58
started to look just like that, super
00:34:01
relaxing, the police just took away his passport
00:34:03
from the police and he’s just sitting on his phone, why did they
00:34:06
take it from him? Well, because
00:34:07
the artist
00:34:08
just arrived with a torn passport. Well, it’s
00:34:11
just a passport that can probably be
00:34:13
taken out, like the inside of the passport, huh?
00:34:14
here is the cover of his passport, he travels a lot,
00:34:16
he travels a lot, and
00:34:18
when he had already come out of
00:34:20
these clutches of justice, he was like this. Well, I don’t
00:34:23
understand what the problem was at all, and they hand
00:34:25
me this passport, and there, well, I really wouldn’t
00:34:28
let him out with with such a passport
00:34:31
I say Well, you should change it and
00:34:35
yes, let's go to the store other Error is the most
00:34:39
fashionable Yes, the brand is Korean, I'm the
00:34:41
only one I know so far, but here's Jen
00:34:42
Mon That is, this is a group of anonymous
00:34:44
designers Nobody knows, this is one
00:34:45
person, several people Yeah, they don’t know who
00:34:48
owns this group of the company, that’s why
00:34:51
it’s such an interesting thing and it’s growing
00:34:53
and becoming famous far beyond the
00:34:55
borders of Korea, this BC is very Mirova. I
00:34:58
remember meeting them, they had a
00:35:00
joint collection with a puma, very
00:35:02
cool, in short, they told me that
00:35:05
somehow everything here is very
00:35:25
cosmic
00:35:28
[music]
00:35:37
if I will ask you to name the most
00:35:39
popular kpop group, most likely it
00:35:42
will be the group
00:35:46
[music]
00:35:55
BTS to date BTS has won
00:35:58
483 awards out of
00:36:01
692 nominations the group brings the Korean
00:36:04
economy almost 4 billion dollars annually
00:36:08
and about 800,000 tourists
00:36:11
visit South Korea annually because of the group BTS for
00:36:14
over the past 10 years there have been about 2 billion
00:36:17
mentions of BTS, that is, there is
00:36:20
a lot of talk about the group on the Internet, there is an
00:36:22
American service BRAND Watch that
00:36:24
works with social networks, and so they are
00:36:27
Gro BTS is one of the most influential
00:36:30
accounts in this social network according to a
00:36:32
set of criteria And of course it is the most
00:36:34
influential n group and this influence
00:36:37
is also indicated by the fact that the group BTS in 2021
00:36:41
went up on the stage of the hall at a UN meeting
00:36:44
and shot a video in its
00:36:47
[music]
00:36:55
headquarters
00:36:57
initially It was hip-hop
00:36:59
[music] the
00:37:11
collective name stands for
00:37:14
or fighting guys already at the time of the creation of
00:37:17
BTS in Korea there were three major labels and the
00:37:20
entire market is
00:37:25
called Su se and its creator punk in
00:37:30
2021 became the first billionaire from the
00:37:33
cape with a fortune of 2.7 billion
00:37:36
dollars at the moment l is
00:37:39
the most successful in South Korea and he quickly
00:37:42
beat the big three old Korean
00:37:44
labels one of the reasons for such huge
00:37:47
popularity of BTS is the proximity to the people the
00:37:50
lyrics touch on the problems of
00:37:52
Korean teenagers their fears and hopes
00:37:55
huge pressure the field of South Korea and for
00:37:58
kip it was a fresh
00:38:01
[music]
00:38:08
idea usually group members are not allowed
00:38:11
to be special to stand out from a team
00:38:13
or even have a personal life and their
00:38:15
work should avoid rough edges,
00:38:18
difficult moments, not touch on social
00:38:20
problems and personal experiences, that is, the
00:38:22
BTS group at that time was a breath of
00:38:24
fresh air; in addition, the group was
00:38:26
very active in using social networks and
00:38:28
broadcast this Closeness to the people
00:38:30
openness through YouTube Twitter and
00:38:32
Facebook also members of the group often
00:38:35
take part in the creation of songs themselves
00:38:37
and this is also not entirely usual for p
00:38:44
[music]
00:38:48
groups nupa BTS and l do a great
00:38:52
job of developing relations with the fan
00:38:54
club They call their fans an army
00:38:56
And over all these years they have raised an extremely
00:38:58
loyal audience that is ready
00:39:00
to support their idols As soon as
00:39:02
they ask for it, they create content for them,
00:39:05
participate in competitions, constantly
00:39:07
mention their favorite group on
00:39:08
social networks, while the BTS group
00:39:11
has official fans and joining
00:39:14
their ranks costs $22, for which fans
00:39:16
receive access to purchasing exclusive
00:39:19
merchandise discounts on tickets as well as access
00:39:22
to exclusive
00:39:23
[music]
00:39:25
content
00:39:29
[music]
00:39:38
relations between North and South Korea are
00:39:41
complicated to say the least and because of these
00:39:43
tensions, all men in South Korea
00:39:46
are required to serve in the military before they
00:39:48
turn 28 years, so Imagine
00:39:51
you have a well-known popular
00:39:53
group that produces billions of
00:39:55
dollars in revenue annually because of which
00:39:57
hundreds of thousands of tourists come to the country.
00:39:59
And in general, this is a cultural phenomenon that
00:40:01
has become one of the calling cards of the country.
00:40:03
But the nuance is that it consists of
00:40:05
young guys and Of course, if it
00:40:07
were here in Russia, as we know,
00:40:09
the severity of the law is compensated by the
00:40:11
optionality of its implementation, then of
00:40:13
course no one would touch such a well-deserved group,
00:40:15
but in Korea the law
00:40:17
applies to idols too,
00:40:19
so now the group is on pause until
00:40:22
2025 because its members now
00:40:25
in the army, yes, there is a chance that in 2 years the
00:40:27
group will be forgotten by its fans, its fans will grow up and
00:40:30
it will simply become uninteresting But
00:40:32
this is a country The law is the law, in
00:40:35
fact, being a star is not only difficult but
00:40:39
also dangerous in Korea, not only in Korea
00:40:43
there are extra fans Here they
00:40:46
are called
00:40:48
[music]
00:40:55
saen there are and there are real fans here they are
00:40:58
called pines these are Obsessed people
00:41:00
who stalk idols, hack their
00:41:03
correspondence, enter their home, threaten
00:41:06
their relatives and do other
00:41:08
illegal things, the main motive of
00:41:10
these people is they want to
00:41:12
be remembered by their beloved idol in this way and it is worth
00:41:15
admitting that they probably succeed, they are
00:41:18
specifically focused on their idols, as there
00:41:20
was a known case with the ex’s group.
00:41:22
One day the group was leaving the hotel, their
00:41:25
manager noticed in time that something was
00:41:28
wrong and it turned out that the group’s car was
00:41:32
not actually real, and a fan
00:41:34
made another similar one that
00:41:36
looked exactly also in order to
00:41:38
apparently kidnap the group, but the manager
00:41:40
discovered it in time and specifically in this
00:41:42
situation everything ended well, which of
00:41:45
course can’t help but rejoice because
00:41:47
kidnapping people is bad, you don’t have to
00:41:50
do that San fans before it was just
00:41:52
some kind of movement Now thank God it’s
00:41:55
somehow I don’t even know if it’s controlled
00:41:57
somehow or it’s just that people have become more adequate, there
00:41:59
used to be a lot of
00:42:01
stories when I’m especially a fan. I
00:42:03
constantly read some articles and there were
00:42:05
Saen fans of San - well, they’re just so
00:42:08
crazy. - that’s right Well, with
00:42:12
some deviations, let’s say girls could
00:42:14
send their menstrual blood there in a jar,
00:42:18
let’s say yes there, well, that is, some of them
00:42:21
can chase in cars, another
00:42:23
situation happened with the artist Yunho from
00:42:26
xq Korean one of the fans Or maybe
00:42:30
haters, who knows, gave the artist
00:42:31
orange juice with a tube of superglue poured into it,
00:42:35
fortunately the artist survived, everything was
00:42:39
fine Well, then for some time he was apparently
00:42:42
afraid to drink orange juice But he remained
00:42:45
alive This story also ended well.
00:42:48
Probably, after all, this is more in the direction of
00:42:51
crimes, these San fans yes
00:42:52
They often do things that
00:42:54
border on criminal Yes with crime Well they
00:42:56
obviously don’t No Well conventionally there
00:42:59
are crimes and there is robbery That is, you
00:43:02
have some kind of E well some kind of story with
00:43:05
receiving some kind of benefit yes And here after
00:43:08
all, this is just such an extreme
00:43:09
degree of dependence. That is, I heard that
00:43:12
they do this in order to be remembered, so that a
00:43:14
person will definitely remember, and there may be
00:43:16
such people too, and in order to be remembered, so
00:43:19
that they will notice so that he has
00:43:21
a piece of me or There I have
00:43:24
a piece of him there they pull out hair and so
00:43:25
on in general the story is when you love
00:43:27
some artist you are interested in him you are
00:43:29
interested in his
00:43:30
personality not only his creativity it is
00:43:33
normal and adequate and
00:43:35
perhaps adds some kind of additional interest to your life
00:43:37
but the history of
00:43:39
fanaticism in my opinion deprives you of
00:43:41
yourself personality and you
00:43:45
become completely dependent on another person
00:43:47
who most likely doesn’t even know about
00:43:49
your existence, so friends, if
00:43:51
you are a fan of K-pop music and a super fan of
00:43:55
some group, pay attention to this,
00:43:57
maybe you need help and if so, do
00:44:00
n’t hesitate to get it turn to
00:44:10
[music]
00:44:15
[applause]
00:44:16
[laughter]
00:44:19
[music]
00:44:25
specialists Wow, there are just crazy
00:44:28
visual
00:44:29
effects here, expensive, rich Yes, there are a lot of
00:44:34
graphics, you know I always thought Oh
00:44:37
good Oh cute it looks
00:44:41
gorgeous I always thought that in
00:44:43
Russian videos there are a lot of visual effects
00:44:46
yes A in Korea also Yes, but I think the Russians are
00:44:48
really good at visual effects
00:44:51
I saw Russian cameramen And everyone who
00:44:53
saw them said Wow, you understand these visual effects,
00:44:57
but in Korea video effects are not so popular
00:45:00
I think for idol videos
00:45:02
Yes, but for hip-hop videos I don’t think there are so
00:45:05
many options to include in the video, so
00:45:07
many graphics, how it all comes down to
00:45:09
money, it’s probably all about the day, yes it
00:45:11
costs a lot of money in Russia,
00:45:13
so the video is
00:45:16
cool. This is crazy, you know what I mean, this is
00:45:20
fire, I think the whole world has
00:45:24
never heard this song and
00:45:26
haven’t seen the clap Well, maybe they have,
00:45:29
I’m just not aware, I’ve never seen it, but
00:45:31
this stan reminds me Well, it’s very similar to the
00:45:34
vibe that I’ve heard from
00:45:35
Latin Americans, well, Latin trap and
00:45:38
stuff like that feeling of vibe and stuff
00:45:41
that’s now in a super trend I think
00:45:44
it’s just more about Spanish music and
00:45:49
language, alas, as a rule, this goes for the
00:45:52
public in America The vector of music is just in the
00:45:55
wrong direction Well, like, the direction is not
00:45:57
exactly the same, but in many ways it is similar in the
00:46:00
trend, it is in
00:46:02
the trend, it is J he is Korean and this is the first
00:46:06
Asian artist on ROCK Nations
00:46:08
this is l which belongs to
00:46:13
[music]
00:46:21
J is an important figure for Korean
00:46:23
hip-hop and pop music Korean Noh was born in the
00:46:26
USA in
00:46:28
1987 in 2004 his mother saw his
00:46:31
great love for dancing and sent him
00:46:34
to a casting at the GP Entertainment agency
00:46:37
and he passed and the very next year he
00:46:39
moved to Korea, became a thread, began to learn to
00:46:41
read Rap, dance and speak
00:46:43
Korean, then there was the reality show Hot
00:46:45
Blood Man, where he took first place and
00:46:48
led the group 2PM, and from that moment
00:46:50
his popularity began, then in
00:46:53
2009, one happened an unpleasant incident,
00:46:55
users found
00:46:57
negative comments on Pak’s Myspace account about
00:47:00
Korea, they were written back in 2005 when
00:47:02
he moved there, but this did not stop the media from
00:47:05
widely disseminating this story and
00:47:06
Pak had to apologize a lot, the fans
00:47:09
were furious, they demanded that he
00:47:11
leave the team and he did so and
00:47:14
returned to the USA but did not waste time, started
00:47:16
his own Youtube channel and recorded a cover of the
00:47:18
track by nano Bruna Mars and
00:47:21
[music]
00:47:24
Bibi
00:47:26
[music]
00:47:30
and it became so popular that at
00:47:32
some point B released a version of the track
00:47:34
exclusively for Korea where Brun
00:47:37
Mars' vocals were replaced with pack's vocals so he became
00:47:40
a star as a solo artist and in
00:47:43
2011 his mini-album
00:47:44
became
00:47:46
[music]
00:47:56
JZ Rock Nations multi-varnish in order to
00:47:58
promote pack's music to the international
00:48:00
market and of course like the successes of Kip artists
00:48:03
in hip-hop environment This story really
00:48:06
inspires local kids to
00:48:08
try to create and look for a place
00:48:10
in the sun. A lot of attention
00:48:12
is paid to marketing, starting from the selection of
00:48:15
all the kids to all the artists, that is,
00:48:19
he tries to pay attention to each
00:48:20
target group. So that I don’t know, one with the
00:48:24
eyes of a deer is cute, the second was a life
00:48:27
her The third was with a cool voice The
00:48:30
fourth The leader who most often
00:48:32
speaks appears somewhere and in Korean
00:48:35
culture this is often the oldest
00:48:38
member of the team But in general age
00:48:40
is respected in Asia in general and in Korea in
00:48:44
particular, so in general I once
00:48:46
auditioned for a show for
00:48:49
foreigners show is that
00:48:52
foreigners gather, that is, there are
00:48:54
several levels there from one,
00:48:56
in my opinion, to tti, and they, in Korean,
00:48:59
accordingly compete with Koreans in
00:49:01
some sayings, then in some
00:49:03
Korean uh, in general things related they
00:49:06
didn’t take me with Korea, as they said later,
00:49:09
partly it was because there
00:49:11
were already two Russian girls there and partly
00:49:12
because I had no image, that is, there
00:49:15
was nothing to sell, that is, there is no such thing that there is only
00:49:17
one girl there, she and
00:49:20
Angelina Danilova is very super famous
00:49:23
in In Korea, she has a lot of 2 million
00:49:25
subscribers, in my opinion, they just
00:49:27
noticed her in St. Petersburg, she lived, they noticed her, they
00:49:30
invited her to work as a model there, in my opinion, it’s something like that,
00:49:31
and accordingly,
00:49:33
she has the image of a beautiful girl. Yes, that’s right.
00:49:35
All Koreans like her
00:49:37
this is the image the second girl spoke super cool
00:49:39
in Korean. That is, she
00:49:40
had this strong side, she was right there, the
00:49:42
mother of the Korean language
00:49:44
knew everything, but for me it was like neither here nor there,
00:49:47
plus I’m half Korean, that is, there
00:49:48
was nothing to sell there the fact that I
00:49:50
dance is not the same as the fact that I sing, uh, and for
00:49:53
TV it wasn’t quite presentable
00:49:55
and there wasn’t this image, I then
00:49:57
realized that damn it’s really how important it is
00:49:59
to have your own niche right here. You have a
00:50:02
group that selects the participants correctly and
00:50:06
everyone a participant who stars in
00:50:07
music videos and records songs with everyone
00:50:10
can be promoted as a separate
00:50:13
artist And when he releases a new video,
00:50:17
each participant has his own
00:50:19
fan base and fans will buy albums
00:50:25
with their photo a photo of a
00:50:27
certain member of the group and fans
00:50:30
dress like they copy their hairstyle in
00:50:34
Korea is very meticulous in its
00:50:38
search for uniqueness, in finding a niche, in
00:50:43
finding an audience who we want to reach. It’s
00:50:45
not that it’s not that difficult to reach us,
00:50:48
especially if we take production projects of a
00:50:50
group, but there is a feeling that we are a
00:50:52
little less scrupulous about this,
00:50:54
that is, there is some kind of understanding there, like,
00:50:56
let's figure out that this is a story. This is
00:50:59
some kind of story in terms of a
00:51:02
story about this group. Concept. This is the
00:51:05
creation of an image, let's say. Well, I'll take
00:51:08
these exo, which I've already started talking about;
00:51:15
subgroups esa K Korean type and exa mm
00:51:18
m type Chinese mandarin Well, that is,
00:51:21
like Chinese language and they have a concept
00:51:23
What was the concept was that they each
00:51:26
have some kind of superpower like
00:51:28
one Alya controls the water there, another
00:51:30
there the wind Well, in short, these these are the powers And I
00:51:32
generally adore fantasy Especially this in
00:51:34
adolescence It was absolutely super
00:51:35
ideal for me and all their clips
00:51:38
were connected just with this That is, they
00:51:40
used some of their powers there,
00:51:42
this is the constant cg Yes, one participant
00:51:46
seemed to be from deserts, the other member
00:51:49
seemed to come from another planet from another
00:51:51
universe and you have to stick to
00:51:54
this image that like yo, the girl is
00:51:57
extraterrestrial, she’s from somewhere there and in her
00:52:00
scenes when she performs solo songs
00:52:02
she should look like a space
00:52:04
character and the other member should be
00:52:06
more Well, you know, deserted, wild at the same time,
00:52:10
whatever the vibe, it should
00:52:11
be Cute and intriguing, everything needs to be made
00:52:14
brighter than in everyday life, even if it’s a
00:52:16
creepy scene, you need to be beautiful and
00:52:18
creepy, cute and scary, sweet and
00:52:24
serious Let’s see what we have
00:52:26
here in the
00:52:28
chats We have an Apple Music service
00:52:31
that we use here. We see that
00:52:35
all the tracks here are from Korean performers,
00:52:39
Korean guys, there is no American music at all.
00:52:43
Yes, here is the first track
00:52:46
s46 place Charlie put, these are the first
00:52:50
English-language tracks that we see here,
00:52:52
but in general the Korean one is very dominant.
00:52:55
And there is also a service Melon and it is
00:52:57
more popular than Apple Music and Spotify but
00:53:00
it is not available from a Russian account
00:53:02
so I could not download it and therefore
00:53:04
we show you in this form kpop -
00:53:08
this is a niche it is still a niche this is not
00:53:09
mainstream music this time kpop is
00:53:12
still not present
00:53:14
in American radio and in radio in general,
00:53:17
kpop is still not present on TV
00:53:19
with very rare exceptions it is still a
00:53:20
niche b it is quite
00:53:23
Definitely tailored mu kpop track can be
00:53:27
recognized very easily and a
00:53:31
similar genre has a certain
00:53:33
fan base a specific fan base
00:53:35
that this music is very easy to
00:53:36
perceive with it, it’s very convenient to
00:53:40
string other aspects from it to
00:53:42
dance to dance itself.
00:53:45
Kepa’s culture is partly built on dancing and let’s
00:53:48
not forget about this religious
00:53:50
fanaticism. Have you ever been a fan of
00:53:52
any artist, anyone at all,
00:53:55
probably someone it was 50n 50 Sep class
00:53:58
for me this is David mer pin Floyd is
00:54:01
probably the only person or there I don’t
00:54:03
know the only bnd or there is The Doors
00:54:05
about which I bought everything I saw, that
00:54:08
is, I see the encyclopedia I buy I do
00:54:10
n’t even look at the price tag this is Pink Floyd
00:54:11
Now imagine that the Koreans here are
00:54:14
trying to make a Boys Band, they just
00:54:17
started with the same thing, I don’t know the format of
00:54:19
our terrible Carmen Yes, there’s Alya Ever
00:54:23
Ivanushki Well,
00:54:25
they started with something like this, the same one there, the same
00:54:28
one, and here they did did they did it and
00:54:32
because there is wild competition,
00:54:34
everyone started doing it. And suddenly the fables
00:54:36
found a formula for what will be sold,
00:54:38
but to a certain contingent, not by the global of the
00:54:42
whole world, just the mainstream, people
00:54:45
who don’t know, found the Korean Sheeran,
00:54:47
which Yes, all the Korean shi started listening to this. They
00:54:49
listened to him.
00:54:54
super pop miracle and BTS today
00:54:58
is not on the scale of Sai’s level, it’s a
00:55:01
lot, it’s gigantic money, it’s
00:55:05
very cool, expressed in any kind of
00:55:06
numbers, but nevertheless, it’s a niche, it’s not
00:55:09
mainstream, again, what was Sa and it does
00:55:12
n’t even matter that it was content from Sai Yes,
00:55:16
there it was still funny and accessible to
00:55:18
absolutely everyone and everyone was interested
00:55:20
in this content in Kora, a new project almost
00:55:24
Niko is launched simply from the drop of a song or
00:55:28
album, there must be some kind of
00:55:31
warm-up, Koreans are very fond of all sorts of
00:55:34
shows online or TV, and often through such
00:55:39
show long before the release of the first tracks of the
00:55:43
first albums, the warm-up begins
00:55:45
A person found some group, listened to a
00:55:47
song there and was like All I want to be their
00:55:49
fan I think this is some kind of
00:55:51
appropriation that like I’m a fan who has been
00:55:53
there since their debut with them or even there
00:56:00
Teenies are filming a show there, let’s say there are
00:56:04
eight boys and in the group there will only be
00:56:06
seven to weed out, and that is, this is it, or
00:56:08
there are 15 boys and
00:56:11
only seven or two groups will be chosen for the group, there is which one
00:56:13
will debut first, I’m at one show at
00:56:16
this one, there are so many tears there they show so much drama,
00:56:19
well, it’s really difficult, that is, the
00:56:20
boys, someone breaks down. That is,
00:56:23
they work there all the time and you see everything And
00:56:25
you feel sorry for them, you get imbued with their
00:56:28
story, it’s just based on
00:56:30
emotions, that is, they cultivate interest in the
00:56:33
group at the stage the formation of the group and
00:56:36
you, when the group debuts, you are already their
00:56:38
fan, this is more about the product than about the
00:56:41
music, that is, it is even more about Eris
00:56:44
than about the
00:56:45
music, this starts from photo cards of collecting
00:56:48
photo cards of your favorite artists and to
00:56:51
the purchase of absolutely all the
00:56:53
merch of his choreography and biography there and then
00:56:57
there are people dancing people buying merch
00:56:59
people making their own videos people I think
00:57:03
there are 20-30 pros there They really listen to
00:57:06
the music people admire the visuals people
00:57:08
repeat this visual people there I don’t know
00:57:10
they repaint them they change their style they
00:57:13
keep track of trends that’s all All
00:57:16
this 360 for you sells from shen
00:57:19
to sword and to some extent muses
00:57:22
And so this is this this is this remake yourself m
00:57:26
Make yourself something new pour into a
00:57:29
group of similar admirers you will have
00:57:31
fun dancing Cool youthful And you will
00:57:33
often get you will get everything from it
00:57:35
starting from the concept of the group, the concept of
00:57:38
what the fan club is called, how
00:57:41
they usually should guide you, what
00:57:43
certain colors they
00:57:45
use, and the concepts of the album in which
00:57:47
you don’t know, fans watch this video,
00:57:50
so they probably disassemble it
00:57:52
frame by frame and and look for it there Secret meanings
00:57:55
are trying to understand why he looked here
00:57:57
and not there How can we read this
00:58:00
they are trying to put these meanings into it
00:58:02
including the Korean creative industry
00:58:05
is developing very quickly but it is difficult to
00:58:07
see something
00:58:09
original I think this is the difference
00:58:12
usually starts in another culture something
00:58:14
interesting and Korea picks up
00:58:17
the trend very quickly and makes it attractive
00:58:19
to everyone I think this is what we are good at, this is the
00:58:21
secret But if the idea is too
00:58:23
original then it doesn’t get the
00:58:26
attention it deserves, you know for them it’s like a light
00:58:30
that quickly faded because the idea
00:58:32
got ahead of them Time and people are afraid to invest
00:58:35
money in something that may not bring them
00:58:37
income, but the idol industry brings in
00:58:40
a lot of money. So if you heard
00:58:43
songs from idols, it’s always some kind of
00:58:46
music that started to sound
00:58:49
like back in the day, then they realized that it’s
00:58:53
time for the world, so they took it and
00:58:56
added it to and made their own version with a
00:58:58
Korean flavor So you know here in
00:59:01
Korea we are on top of trends But
00:59:03
we didn't really invent them We always
00:59:09
pick up on people in marketing are
00:59:12
great and Amazingly good at what
00:59:14
they do in America
00:59:16
you can be crazy and do something
00:59:19
super weird and it can go
00:59:21
viral people Zaid
00:59:23
node I think that in America the sun is so
00:59:25
diverse because the country is big and
00:59:28
there are a lot of different
00:59:30
people in Korea, basically there is one
00:59:33
ethnicity and one race and the
00:59:37
country is not so much big So
00:59:40
most people will follow the
00:59:42
trends that are actively
00:59:44
promoted by marketers Yes, it’s just goddamn
00:59:47
simple But if we’re talking about
00:59:49
management
00:59:51
9%
00:59:53
Sorry, maybe they’ll find out about this, it’s not
00:59:56
whoa, these are people who can understand the maximum in the World Cup,
00:59:58
look about Russia now about the
01:00:01
bark in Rossi, you often take with you on tour
01:00:05
people who cannot survive on the
01:00:09
streets of Paris London Buenos Aires
01:00:14
Moscow there are no tour managers, to find a
01:00:17
good tour operator here in Korea now,
01:00:19
I will need to call my
01:00:21
friends and ask them Call even
01:00:25
older guys from much more
01:00:28
big business there, again at the level of
01:00:31
YG Entertainment and try to ask
01:00:33
another 100 people they know and this is all the
01:00:36
maximum. That is, there are very few good tour
01:00:39
managers and cool managers who
01:00:42
understand the global, you
01:00:45
can literally find out all of them by name Yes, the
01:00:47
management of a major artist Maybe to
01:00:50
ask you to help with buying wine at a
01:00:52
hotel bar, some people are not able to
01:00:55
just raise their hand and say Please
01:00:59
like no, they will run to you like a
01:01:04
promoter and say something
01:01:07
like, please go to the bar and
01:01:09
ask for water there for us
01:01:11
Even with the fact that they can speak
01:01:13
English sometimes it won’t help,
01:01:16
that is, they are the world and
01:01:18
they often don’t know how to work in the world.
01:01:20
You could show a Korean clip
01:01:25
that you think is really
01:01:27
cool, this one is very
01:01:37
good. They are from Korea, but it looks like the clip
01:01:41
was filmed in China but technically they are
01:01:46
Chinese Everyone starts
01:01:53
dancing in the usual way I
01:01:55
understand
01:02:00
Yes, I think such features are like a special
01:02:03
cultural code that brings great sensuality to the sound
01:02:16
Wow dragon This is always cool yes yes there are
01:02:21
dragons here
01:02:23
dragons What do you think the budget for this
01:02:26
video is huge probably something in the
01:02:31
region of half a million dollars or something like
01:02:35
that because this is a video of the
01:02:41
artist’s cap I can say that this is a Chinese
01:02:45
production and there is a budget like in a movie Well,
01:02:48
you know, Becoming like this
01:02:51
Check this out,
01:02:55
these guys are doing what
01:02:57
the audience likes I think that now they are
01:03:01
top trend in
01:03:06
[music]
01:03:14
Korea it’s like an American pop song in
01:03:17
sound but in visuals they strive for the kpop
01:03:19
style in the frame
01:03:22
[music]
01:03:23
yes the
01:03:27
interesting color
01:03:31
scheme looks like a retro stylization
01:03:35
yes
01:03:38
yes but there’s definitely a lot here it’s a
01:03:42
kpop standard the visual effects are
01:03:46
bright frame stitching yes yes
01:03:49
futuristic vibe with a retro touch
01:03:52
dance choreography all sorts of things
01:03:55
Yes very interesting yes This is definitely a top
01:03:58
idea These people are cool because it’s like
01:04:00
Another world I’m sure many people will say
01:04:04
that this is a very good video yes yes
01:04:07
definitely yes That’s why I love
01:04:10
making videos for
01:04:12
YouTube Yes go for it brother I definitely want to
01:04:16
check out the Russian videos it's fire
01:04:23
bro
01:04:24
[music]
01:04:32
Korean idols for example never
01:04:34
say bad words on TV
01:04:37
Korean idols should always look
01:04:39
perfect no matter if it's a guy or a girl they
01:04:42
will always have makeup they
01:04:44
will always look cool in front of the camera
01:04:46
like that that it’s really easy to come by
01:04:48
you will never find anything bad in
01:04:50
Korean idols you can’t get sick
01:04:55
I know you do bad things you
01:04:57
can’t gain weight you can’t Well you’re
01:04:59
basically perfect you’re such a
01:05:02
chicken you’re a god and you’re also friendly to
01:05:05
children and to everyone If you
01:05:08
think like that, I understand that there is some sexuality in this.
01:05:11
But let it be so, this is a
01:05:13
certain cluster of consumers, this is a
01:05:15
very specific audience. By the way, it is
01:05:18
different from the European American
01:05:20
public. Yes, it is different from the Asian
01:05:22
public. There are fan groups, these are
01:05:26
different in themselves. That is if here it
01:05:28
may be more of a mainstream story,
01:05:30
that is, here it is full of ordinary
01:05:31
Korean girls or Japanese
01:05:34
girls or Chinese girls who are
01:05:36
crazy about K-
01:05:37
pop and these can be people from very
01:05:40
different Niches from very different societies,
01:05:43
then If we look at European and
01:05:45
American fans
01:05:47
But everyone else Yes, they one way or another
01:05:50
have patterns of their appearance, let's say the
01:05:54
crowd at the kpop fans will be different from the
01:05:56
crowd at the
01:05:57
Drake concert at the concert there of the
01:06:00
beautiful boy cars veins Kelly how to be
01:06:03
different look at the photos of the kpop crowd
01:06:07
at BTS Look at the photos hall on a
01:06:11
typewriter, you will find the difference further when it
01:06:13
comes to releasing songs. It’s exactly the
01:06:16
same story, that is, every word in the
01:06:18
song should not be accidental, that is, in
01:06:21
some places they leave a few words in
01:06:23
English, and often songs are written
01:06:26
initially in English because
01:06:27
Americans write them and then
01:06:29
they translate it and adapt it into Korean
01:06:33
for an external non-Korean audience so that
01:06:36
people from other countries will also like it,
01:06:40
accordingly, even here we have such a
01:06:43
marketing ploy, everything the Koreans think
01:06:48
through, they don’t just do
01:06:52
the words, and they include
01:06:55
English choruses in the songs kipp music
01:06:58
always has English words, even if
01:07:00
someone doesn’t understand Korean, they
01:07:03
can always sing along with that chorus in
01:07:04
English. Another interesting thing in Korea is that
01:07:07
the state takes an active
01:07:09
role in many large companies,
01:07:14
including once Samsung LG
01:07:18
Hyundai, other companies appeared
01:07:21
largely thanks to supported by the state,
01:07:25
the state, seeing that there were some niches
01:07:28
where Korea and the company could be
01:07:31
competitive, put emphasis on this,
01:07:33
allocated resources, and at some point
01:07:36
one of these industries just became
01:07:39
p, that is, the authorities saw that there was
01:07:44
a prospect, they saw that it was in demand,
01:07:48
they saw it so
01:07:52
soft
01:07:54
It can influence other cultures
01:07:57
and conditionally convert people, that is,
01:08:01
people become fans of Korea
01:08:03
become fans of Korean
01:08:05
culture, they also come here and
01:08:07
spend their money accordingly,
01:08:09
the state saw it in time Well done, they
01:08:11
even created a department associated with
01:08:15
Spam and actively allocates
01:08:18
money for this so that all this is
01:08:22
possible
01:08:24
because, firstly, it brings
01:08:25
money directly, then the Kayani group Beats is
01:08:27
hundreds of millions or even billions of
01:08:29
dollars, somewhere here
01:08:31
the amount of how much they have earned in
01:08:34
recent years will appear. But in addition to such direct
01:08:36
profit, it is also the delivery of Korean
01:08:38
ideas to the Korean Cultures from other countries are
01:08:43
also indirect profits from tourism that
01:08:45
come here on the wave of the Cape who
01:08:48
want to join in and see everything,
01:08:50
figure it out Well, for example, like you and
01:08:53
me
01:08:55
I don’t think it’s necessarily about
01:08:56
money But it’s always an opportunity
01:08:59
the government controls the Media the
01:09:02
more it appears in the media the more
01:09:06
money it
01:09:07
will bring these funds are invested in
01:09:10
marketing Which makes it possible to
01:09:12
develop in other countries and after
01:09:15
fame in other countries it
01:09:16
will bring even more money such a
01:09:19
cycle for example the government of Korea
01:09:24
or the Philippines holds something
01:09:27
like a
01:09:28
meeting or conference, it is logical that the
01:09:32
Korean government will try to
01:09:34
organize a concert of idols to perform
01:09:37
in the Philippines and this is good publicity they
01:09:40
will pay for the entire trip because it is a
01:09:43
government event and if this
01:09:46
concert happens and it is in the Philippines then
01:09:48
Filipino fans will come to the concert and
01:09:50
bring their friends with them
01:09:52
I think this happens at
01:09:54
most concerts and the more
01:09:57
attention Korean artists get paid the
01:09:59
more the Philippine government sees
01:10:00
how big the fanbase of kpop musicians is
01:10:03
in the Philippines and the next time
01:10:05
the government wants to organize a
01:10:07
successful concert they will try to
01:10:08
invite kpop idols it's like with the
01:10:11
United Nations BTS
01:10:14
was invited to give a speech at the UN I think this is a
01:10:17
good example Why do you think
01:10:20
kpop has become so popular
01:10:24
I think there are two reasons. The first is
01:10:28
how it is in Russian, social networks, the
01:10:31
popularity of Facebook began to grow, then
01:10:34
Instagram Twitter appeared, I think the
01:10:37
peculiarity of idols is that they
01:10:39
constantly interact with fans,
01:10:42
you know, even before it became
01:10:44
mainstream, communicate with
01:10:47
fans were one of the first to
01:10:50
learn how to actively connect with
01:10:52
their fans through different
01:10:54
apps and this allowed fans
01:10:57
all over the country to feel like they were connected
01:10:59
with
01:11:00
idols before when content creation
01:11:03
was not so ubiquitous Koreans were
01:11:06
obsessed with creating content You know,
01:11:08
creating small products that
01:11:11
they sell to their fans are always everywhere with
01:11:14
advertising everywhere and a reminder of
01:11:17
how much they love their fans. I
01:11:20
think back then artists from other
01:11:22
countries had such a presence on
01:11:25
social media, another reason is
01:11:28
because I already said Koreans are quick to
01:11:30
pick up trends if
01:11:32
some popular music comes out then they immediately
01:11:34
picked it up and introduced it into Korean
01:11:36
creativity, we took the best producers and
01:11:39
did something similar but different. That is, the
01:11:41
kpop version of this. And if you have heard kpop,
01:11:45
you understand how easily it is
01:11:47
perceived by five-year-old children, they could
01:11:49
listen to such music and enjoy it and
01:11:51
dance to it at the same time American
01:11:54
hip-hop or something like that It’s not a fact
01:11:56
that a four- or
01:11:58
five-year-old
01:12:05
child will like it, I don’t know if you’re a
01:12:08
fan of Korean cuisine, but before
01:12:10
coming to Korea I was very familiar with it,
01:12:13
and we went with Asya and Sonya
01:12:15
to fix it and with to get acquainted in this
01:12:18
restaurant, each table has a
01:12:20
small grill built into it where I add coals and there is
01:12:23
an exhaust hood attached to each table and they
01:12:26
bring you raw food and you fry it yourself.
01:12:29
This type of establishment is very
01:12:31
popular in Korea in Seoul and you can
01:12:33
meet them literally on every corner. in
01:12:36
general, they brought us just two two tracks
01:12:39
nanu By the way, this is Korean marble prime beef beef, the
01:12:41
first thing for me to
01:12:44
try is this very thing. The dish is called
01:12:46
pul gogi and it’s a thin beef tenderloin
01:12:50
that you cook yourself on this grill, it
01:12:52
seems that everything is just familiar and understandable, but I do
01:12:54
n’t know whether due to the fact that this is
01:12:56
some kind of selected tasty beef, or
01:12:59
due to the fact that it is very thin or
01:13:00
maybe the whole point is that you
01:13:03
cook and fry it yourself, but it is very tasty, the
01:13:06
meat is very tender, soft and literally
01:13:08
melts in
01:13:10
your mouth, this is a soup with jelly soup with jelly
01:13:13
this is jelly this is in short the Korean version of
01:13:15
jellied meat this thing is somewhat similar to our
01:13:18
jellied meat it is cold and even with ice
01:13:21
inside it tastes like something Gorkova buckwheat
01:13:24
probably but
01:13:27
it is not buckwheat as if it was boiled and
01:13:29
this broth was frozen and sent in this
01:13:32
dish of ours the taste of the thing is very much for
01:13:34
everyone, it’s kind of
01:13:36
bitter and I definitely don’t fall into these fans
01:13:40
it’s crab and it’s a free
01:13:43
appetizer like any crab it looks
01:13:45
big but there’s nothing special to eat there plus
01:13:48
its method of preparation when it’s
01:13:50
cold is taken out in what - the sauces are nothing
01:13:55
poetic uh Tuka also doesn’t really
01:13:58
appeal to me these are snails which are very useful
01:14:01
cool
01:14:02
you’re a new free snack and this time
01:14:05
these are some kind of larvae Zhukov I agree it
01:14:07
looks so-so but tastes something
01:14:10
like chicken breast without any
01:14:12
strong taste, just such a meat
01:14:17
protein, it seems that they are the
01:14:22
same
01:14:23
and the joke of this dish is that if you do
01:14:26
n’t cook it carefully, the
01:14:28
tentacles can attach themselves to the paths and you will die,
01:14:32
but it seems like this happens rarely and
01:14:34
therefore this does not bother Koreans much and
01:14:37
this the dish can be ordered in most
01:14:39
restaurants, the tentacles themselves do
01:14:42
not have any distinct taste of their own and it’s as
01:14:44
if you are just biting some kind of
01:14:45
sea mucus, the sauces with which they are poured
01:14:48
improve the situation a little, but the
01:14:50
dish is still very much for everyone and
01:14:52
for a representative of European meal it is not
01:14:54
very good it’s clear then we had a
01:14:56
hefty octopus heated up and we were
01:14:58
the only ones whom the waiter helped to
01:15:01
fry the whole thing because we are foreigners
01:15:03
and they fried a little over us, it pre-
01:15:10
soaked melts right there next to it in the form of
01:15:13
such a small taka in a sheet of
01:15:15
nori seaweed and you eat it additionally Maca in
01:15:17
different sauces it was the most delicious
01:15:19
dish I ate in Korea, very understandable
01:15:22
for us, the taste is creamy, but at the same time, with
01:15:25
its own Korean
01:15:28
history, there is a genre, a very unusual trot,
01:15:32
probably the most unusual Korean genre,
01:15:34
trot trot - in short, music for
01:15:36
grandmothers, literally, that is, grandmothers,
01:15:38
my boyfriend’s grandmother, for example she really
01:15:40
loves her she had a favorite boy some
01:15:42
artist singer trot and he was inspired by this
01:15:46
trend for new performers,
01:15:49
young artists began to appear
01:15:52
who were very young like 10 years old 13 years old
01:15:55
boys who sing trot I don’t know
01:15:57
who they are for this, that is, parents of some kind
01:15:59
then they really seem to understand that if
01:16:01
they can sing well now, maybe
01:16:04
they and their grandmothers spent time there and
01:16:05
sang these songs, also an option, I don’t know how,
01:16:08
but shows began to appear. I wo
01:16:09
n’t lie, I don’t remember the name, but
01:16:12
they are dedicated to
01:16:22
the sidewalks, just these young kids,
01:16:24
little guys who also sing trot
01:16:26
and then they release their albums, they
01:16:30
organize concerts and grannies go from
01:16:32
eraser to these concerts there with some kind of
01:16:35
posters Well, that is, yes And
01:16:37
my guy’s grandmother also went to
01:16:40
such a concert of some boy and here
01:16:42
recently we asked her What are you like, well,
01:16:44
they ask her like Grandma, why do
01:16:46
n’t you watch this guy there anymore, I don’t remember
01:16:47
his name and she said He’s already
01:16:50
old, he’s 13 years old there, he was 10,
01:16:53
he put it at 13, that means he doesn’t
01:16:55
fit anymore that is, this is the short
01:16:58
life of a Korean trot performer, her
01:17:00
career is as short as possible from 10 to
01:17:03
12 until what do you remember the very name of the
01:17:07
most famous trot
01:17:09
performer yes, that’s the one I know And even
01:17:12
I listened to her songs They are so cool
01:17:13
Hong Jin but they have straight Korean names
01:17:16
because, well, for grandmothers, of course, they
01:17:17
won’t do it in English there xnn her
01:17:22
name is
01:17:25
[music]
01:17:28
I went to the east of the country to Tian
01:17:30
to attend one interesting
01:17:32
event and this is the festival of electronic
01:17:35
music Ndo Jace There are a lot of such fashionable
01:17:38
guys and in general The atmosphere is so
01:17:40
relaxed in Los Angeles, I guess it
01:17:42
can be described this way and I came here
01:17:45
to talk to this guy, his name is
01:17:47
Richie and he is an Englishman in Korea, he has been
01:17:50
living in Korea for many years and I must say he
01:17:51
has settled well here and together with
01:17:54
his partners he has his own Internet radio its own bar and
01:17:56
this festival too Made it
01:17:59
[music] the
01:18:06
Korean team doesn’t often manage
01:18:09
to hold a festival on the
01:18:11
beach one of the reasons is that there
01:18:14
is a war between North Korea and South Korea There is a
01:18:16
war and the beaches belong to the military So
01:18:20
this festival is very special
01:18:23
because we can organize its on the
01:18:25
beach Koreans don’t hang out on the beach And
01:18:28
thanks to us there will be cool artists
01:18:30
from different countries here will play Techno
01:18:33
A little hip-hop A little Rice jle
01:18:37
underground in short many here have
01:18:39
never heard this kind of music before So
01:18:41
be cool festivals on the beaches have not been
01:18:44
held for 10 years ago when I first
01:18:47
arrived in Korea there was a party on the beach
01:18:51
but suddenly a North Korean
01:18:54
siren sounded, my friends did this and then
01:18:59
tanks appeared on the beach girls in
01:19:01
bikinis even took pictures with
01:19:04
them here really yes I am from London
01:19:07
Where are you from South Africa
01:19:13
Cape Town we will send you a video with the
01:19:15
fireworks on the beach it’s
01:19:17
incredible we had to get
01:19:19
special permission
01:19:21
from
01:19:23
Well, like yes because it looks like an
01:19:27
explosion straight from
01:19:31
me I’ve been doing events for about 7
01:19:33
years we’ve been doing events in which
01:19:36
we interact with Korean
01:19:38
culture Well, it’s like, it turns out to be holidays
01:19:42
with electronic underground culture,
01:19:45
you know, for example We are the first in history to
01:19:48
have a party in a Korean
01:19:51
sauna, the first about 5 years ago,
01:19:54
electronic music in Korea was not so
01:19:56
well
01:19:57
represented because everyone thought that
01:20:00
clubs were
01:20:02
bad, a place where people came to
01:20:04
pick up someone or use
01:20:07
substances that were harmful. for society,
01:20:09
electronic music is harmful to
01:20:12
society, and regular clubs have the
01:20:14
same license as strip clubs and
01:20:18
this only
01:20:19
got in the way. This is [ __ ]. We wanted to make the
01:20:24
culture of electronic music more
01:20:26
accessible to people, more friendly and
01:20:29
not alien to Korean culture. I
01:20:33
learned more about it when faced the
01:20:37
collective with collective thinking in
01:20:39
Korea this is not always good because
01:20:41
sometimes people are afraid to show
01:20:43
individuality due to collective
01:20:45
pressure that individualism is bad
01:20:49
Well, that’s all
01:20:51
but I like it Collective concern for
01:20:54
society is like this everywhere you go it’s
01:20:58
not necessarily like the fight between the
01:21:01
underground and the mainstream they're just
01:21:04
together It's a party that doesn't mean
01:21:06
it's automatically bad yeah you know
01:21:09
we have more in common with this independent
01:21:11
business than with this [ __ ]
01:21:12
corporate business we need to get along
01:21:14
with each other every time
01:21:16
the government tried to organize something
01:21:18
like a street parties and it was an
01:21:21
empty trade and everyone says it’s government
01:21:24
money down the drain and I never Do you know in
01:21:28
Berlin or Amsterdam on a radio station
01:21:29
they receive similar initiatives Grants for
01:21:31
development in Korea there is no such thing here, only
01:21:34
grants for art are given to sculptors for
01:21:36
fine arts and something
01:21:38
similar In general, support is allocated for
01:21:42
socially important
01:21:44
art projects Yes, for any you understand everything is
01:21:48
ahead people study here so many
01:21:51
talented people Rather it is expressed
01:21:54
in fashion in the culture of
01:21:56
the film industry Yes even p even p is
01:22:01
beneficial and you know why more precisely people
01:22:05
think like Techno break jle hip -hop Agra
01:22:12
is combined with pop music, in fact, we
01:22:15
create pop stars in clubs and
01:22:19
You see, it even seems to me that you
01:22:23
are throwing a big party in Europe and
01:22:26
besides you there is another
01:22:28
promoter, he is you and they hate Priori, he is
01:22:32
behaving like a [ __ ]
01:22:33
animal it’s like a competition, there’s
01:22:36
less of that here and if you have a
01:22:39
cool idea then people here think damn it’s
01:22:43
awesome these guys are pumping these
01:22:45
guys are pumping
01:22:47
us up inspires you to try e
01:22:51
more I went to Korea in 2001 for the first time
01:22:55
yes I was 6
01:22:58
years old and we Well we together with sister brother
01:23:04
we were the first I guess we were the
01:23:07
first foreign children who
01:23:09
went to a foreign school Yes to a
01:23:11
foreign kindergarten foreign
01:23:13
primary school foreign high
01:23:16
school where in the first in your family or in a
01:23:19
city in Korea in Korea Yes I don’t know
01:23:23
for sure
01:23:24
I could be
01:23:26
wrong various TV- the show came to
01:23:28
our house, they filmed us, they filmed my
01:23:32
brother and Yes, they filmed you and your
01:23:37
brother as the first children of
01:23:38
foreigners Yes, because it was
01:23:41
something new, you know, in 2001 there
01:23:45
were only two of them in
01:23:47
those years, it was a new phenomenon then
01:23:51
my brother, you know became important became the
01:23:55
vice president of the school as the deputy
01:23:59
president as in Korea they call it
01:24:03
Chan Chan and he was like Chan and it was
01:24:08
cool a foreign child came to school
01:24:14
television came and it was Yeah, well, actually
01:24:20
that was one of the reasons
01:24:22
why I wanted to work for television
01:24:26
in
01:24:27
Korea What am I doing now? I'm doing a
01:24:30
TV show. Do you work? As a model or as an
01:24:34
actor, I can say that I'm a model, but I'm more
01:24:38
involved in reality shows, talk shows like
01:24:42
Chita RP with artists from South
01:24:44
Africa, you feel like you're
01:24:51
part of the Korean society
01:24:54
mostly but at the same time no still I'm a
01:24:57
South African guy from K town
01:24:59
so I want to expose everyone to the
01:25:02
South African culture to everyone And when I
01:25:07
design I take
01:25:11
inspiration from my background
01:25:15
growing up you try to
01:25:17
add your culture into your
01:25:20
design of course
01:25:22
U I have a dream, I’m striving for it, I
01:25:26
really believe that this will happen as a
01:25:32
designer I want to take part in a
01:25:35
fashion week in which the styles of Korea and South
01:25:40
Africa are mixed, I wash all the details, think about
01:25:43
every little detail, because this is my long-term
01:25:47
Meta since the moment I’ve been
01:25:51
designing like me how I became a designer
01:25:56
this has always been my dream I want to create a
01:26:00
collection for
01:26:03
fashion week in Seoul or Cape Town to show the
01:26:07
beauty of Korean African style
01:26:10
this is what I want I hope everything works out for you
01:26:13
Sounds cool I heard from
01:26:16
many people that if you want to
01:26:19
do business in
01:26:21
Korea this definitely needs to be done with a
01:26:24
Korean so that he represents your
01:26:26
interests, yes, it is very important that
01:26:31
someone
01:26:33
local helps you
01:26:36
and this will greatly help in business, for example, so that
01:26:40
he can help you deal
01:26:43
with taxation, licenses, and other
01:26:47
programs for filling out applications, there is
01:26:50
a lot of
01:26:51
bureaucracy here
01:26:52
and I think you will always have you need
01:26:56
a Korean to
01:26:58
help and I think if you have a Korean
01:27:02
in your company you are not required to pay
01:27:05
tax for a foreign
01:27:08
company and this makes the work easier Well, something like
01:27:12
that, but this is the law in many countries
01:27:15
for example in India You have to pay
01:27:17
about
01:27:18
60-4 From the company's revenue is unacceptable
01:27:21
more
01:27:22
and your company is
01:27:25
officially registered, yes, everything is officially
01:27:28
registered in fact, we are the
01:27:30
founders There are three of us Yes, two Koreans
01:27:35
and I am one foreigner
01:27:38
So your team has always consisted of
01:27:41
friends This is an example of how a cool
01:27:44
community of like-minded people became
01:27:46
a company We are organizing a big festival
01:27:49
at this weekend and most of these
01:27:53
people do not officially work for the company
01:27:55
but they need us to sell various kinds of
01:27:58
merch, t-shirts,
01:28:01
souvenirs and security, these are volunteers and a
01:28:05
family family vibe Yes, these are volunteers
01:28:08
but they are our family Some of these
01:28:11
people are girls DJs Some of the people are
01:28:14
just ordinary guys who want to do
01:28:16
something to help at the event
01:28:18
here here so many positive things I
01:28:22
tell many people no no no no everything is
01:28:24
fine don’t
01:28:27
worry I can pay you about Well I don’t
01:28:31
know 100 bucks for this work is not
01:28:33
that much After all, they are standing there for 10
01:28:36
hours I worry about this but they themselves
01:28:39
want to help they want to feel
01:28:41
part of it so why
01:28:43
not one day I would
01:28:45
love to pay people more but for now
01:28:47
I don’t know I think they are just doing
01:28:49
it for fun out of people have an amazing
01:28:52
job at Google or something like that
01:28:54
But others don’t have it, they want to be
01:28:57
part of the
01:29:14
movement Well, the Koreans are still an
01:29:16
amazing people and They managed to make a
01:29:19
fairy tale from their wound, from an agrarian
01:29:22
agricultural country, they
01:29:24
made a country in 50 years rich,
01:29:31
successful cars, a lot of expensive
01:29:33
boutiques And in general it is clear that in the country
01:29:36
people have
01:29:37
[music]
01:29:43
money, then they learned to make a fairy tale
01:29:46
and their music is not easy to do, it’s
01:29:48
a one-time thing, they created a conveyor belt that will
01:29:50
produce such fairy tales on an
01:29:51
industrial scale and thanks to these
01:29:53
fairy tales there are millions of fans all over the
01:29:55
world they dream of going to Korea to be
01:29:59
here they learn Korean culture and generally
01:30:01
begin to love everything
01:30:04
[music]
01:30:09
Korean is such a soft power that
01:30:11
converts millions and millions of people to their faith,
01:30:13
while the sheer brutality of the Koreans is
01:30:15
not a fairy tale at all I talked to a bunch of
01:30:18
people and from everyone I heard the word
01:30:20
competition, that is, competition
01:30:22
is probably the main word in South Korea
01:30:25
that I heard from everywhere, people constantly
01:30:28
think about how
01:30:30
competitive how competitive their children
01:30:31
will be about the fact that right
01:30:34
now you shouldn’t rest. You should
01:30:35
study or your child why shouldn’t he
01:30:37
I know he walks, walks, plays football, he needs to
01:30:39
sit down with his textbooks right now
01:30:41
and work, work, in order to
01:30:43
have at least some chances in this competition;
01:30:45
here we get such a
01:30:47
paradoxical situation that, in essence, the
01:30:48
nation, of course, wins
01:30:50
the Torah, a country that is practically
01:30:54
located on an island. Yes, it’s a peninsula,
01:30:56
but in fact, the only land
01:30:58
border in the north is North Korea,
01:31:00
respectively, with which there is no
01:31:02
connection, no trade relations, and
01:31:05
moreover, all of Korea is in
01:31:06
constant anticipation of an armed
01:31:08
conflict. That is, every Korean
01:31:10
necessarily serves in the Army. And despite
01:31:12
all this, Korea was able to find its place in the
01:31:14
world we know a bunch of Korean brands
01:31:16
Despite the fact that the country is small and
01:31:18
inconveniently located We all know about LG we
01:31:20
know about Kia about Hyundai about KP
01:31:24
now there are a bunch of other brands, that is,
01:31:26
the nation as a whole benefits from this
01:31:29
situation, but at the same time every
01:31:30
individual to my feelings of communicating with
01:31:31
local kids, I haven’t felt
01:31:33
happy since
01:31:36
childhood. And from parents and from society and
01:31:38
from those around me, it certainly doesn’t go
01:31:41
unnoticed, and here, of course, the
01:31:43
philosophical question arises: What is more important, private
01:31:45
or public? What is more important, the happiness of
01:31:48
one particular person or
01:31:50
survival And the prosperity of the nation as a collective
01:31:52
for itself and answered this question is
01:31:54
more important for me. Of course, a person is more important than
01:31:57
each individual so that he is
01:32:00
happy and, as a rule, if the whole society is
01:32:03
happy, it somehow finds
01:32:05
ways to prosper and finds a place in
01:32:08
this
01:32:12
[music]
01:32:20
world friends Korea is very an unusual and
01:32:24
amazing country, and if you
01:32:26
ever have the opportunity to come here,
01:32:27
come, a lot of emotions, a new experience, you are
01:32:31
guaranteed it’s real Another planet,
01:32:33
people are completely different from us and
01:32:36
traveling is really cool, but now
01:32:38
it’s difficult to do, but if you have a
01:32:39
goal, there is a desire then everything is possible and Yes,
01:32:43
if the format appeals to you, it’s
01:32:45
absolutely new. And for us, and for you,
01:32:47
probably, don’t forget to like,
01:32:49
subscribe to the channel, leave
01:32:50
comments. Feedback is very important to us so that
01:32:52
we understand that this enormous effort
01:32:54
that we spend on producing this
01:32:56
content does not work for nothing and someone
01:32:58
needs friends Be happy and see you
