insects genius strategy part 1 Secrets
00:00:42
of birth the
00:00:47
short spring has passed and it is replaced by
00:00:50
summer the
00:00:55
summer forest is full of new life
00:01:00
summer birds have cobalt blue feathers the
00:01:05
blue flycatcher feeds its chicks
00:01:10
but insects of similar colors
00:01:18
are the cockroach Wasp iridescent in
00:01:21
shades of blue like sapphire
00:01:23
[music]
00:01:26
it looks like a swarming host it is often confused with them the
00:01:34
male can reach a length of 12-14 mm the
00:01:38
female is 15-18 mm
00:01:42
it cleans its long antennae with its
00:01:45
front legs
00:01:47
it is a meticulously clean insect
00:01:50
that constantly cleans itself
00:01:52
[music]
00:01:56
got a cockroach wasp such a name
00:01:58
because she hunts cockroaches
00:02:00
[music]
00:02:07
forest in the midst of hot summer
00:02:14
If you carefully examine the old
00:02:17
trees you can notice cockroaches
00:02:19
they are small
00:02:28

00:07:15
for the sense of smell and the eye to notice the
00:07:18
enemy
00:07:24
[music]
00:07:29
but now he has lost their
00:07:34
life as a cockroach. In power,
00:07:39
she tries the secretion from the cut
00:07:42
antennae of the cockroach,
00:07:46
thus trying to assess
00:07:48
whether enough poison has entered the body of the cockroach,
00:07:54
a difficult time passes for both the cockroach
00:07:57
and
00:08:00
However, there is still more to overcome one
00:08:03
difficulty
00:08:04
she needs to take the prey to the hollow that
00:08:07
she has equipped. The wasp drags a cockroach that has
00:08:10
lost its own will by the
00:08:12
antennae;
00:08:18
this is a long and difficult path that can
00:08:21
be tens of meters long;
00:08:25
when she gets to her destination,
00:08:28
she checks the hollow again
00:08:31
[music] the
00:08:36
cockroaches left alone but he has no
00:08:39
intention of running
00:08:41
[music]
00:08:49
it is much larger than the caught prey
00:08:53
[music] he
00:08:56
has to run back and forth to solve the
00:08:59
problem
00:09:10
[music]
00:09:12
now everything is decided by speed she does not
00:09:16
stop moving her tiny
00:09:18
bodies to solve this problem
00:09:24
and then another cockroach Wasp appeared
00:09:32
she the first wasp quickly kidnaps the cockroach The
00:09:39
wasp doesn't notice anything and
00:09:42
continues to work
00:09:47
like this day for the cockroach
00:09:49
[music]
00:09:56
usually this is a smart and agile insect
00:09:59
but it is helpless in front of the cockroach wasp the
00:10:02
cockroach is damn unlucky
00:10:05
[music]
00:10:11
wasp venom does not kill the cockroach
00:10:16
[music]
00:10:18
it only controls it psyche not
00:10:22
allowing him
00:10:25
[music]
00:10:33
in the face of death, the
00:10:36
instinct of self-preservation awakens in him,
00:10:38
but in the end the power appears On the
00:10:42
other side
00:10:43
[music]
00:10:48
[music] the
00:10:50
cockroach axis remains only
00:10:52
to seal the entrance
00:10:54
[music]
00:11:01
This is in order to prevent a
00:11:03
possible escape of the cockroach and so that inside
00:11:07
no outsiders have penetrated
00:11:10
the defender must always be on guard
00:11:13
danger is always somewhere nearby
00:11:16
[music]
00:11:20
but for now he can only try to
00:11:22
do everything in his power
00:11:26
what can happen in the hollow of a tree
00:11:29
[music]
00:11:32
between the legs of a cockroach a
00:11:35
large egg can be placed
00:11:40
in this white egg lives a terrifying
00:11:44
instinct of a predator
00:11:45
[music]
00:11:47
wasp venom is still active
00:11:50
[music] this is how they come
00:11:54
together Life and death are
00:12:03
now the middle of summer 30-degree heat
00:12:07
3 days have passed
00:12:08
[music] the
00:12:11
larva has already awakened [
00:12:14
music]
00:12:17
and is already feeding
00:12:21
[music]
00:12:25
This is its head with with a flat mouth and big
00:12:29
eyes
00:12:30
[music]
00:12:33
she presses her mouth against the cockroach's body and
00:12:36
sucks into the compartment
00:12:38
[music]
00:12:42
eat food prepared with her mother's poison
00:12:47
[music] the
00:12:52
internal fluids of the cockroach become
00:12:54
nutrients for the wasp
00:12:56
[music]
00:13:03
another day has passed
00:13:06
[music] the
00:13:08
cockroach slowly is dying
00:13:16
and the larva is growing at an alarming rate, she
00:13:20
intends to eat the entire cockroach
00:13:22
before it rots
00:13:24
[music]
00:13:28
She is ready to turn into a pupa in the floor
00:13:31
and shell of the cockroach.
00:13:34
Here she secretes silk threads. To
00:13:37
build a cocoon, the
00:13:46
larva uses the body shell of
00:13:48
the cockroach as a house in which to
00:13:50
spend a long winter
00:13:52
here she will patiently wait for the
00:13:55
next summer
00:13:58
[music]
00:14:15
with them as a tree since May
00:14:17
[music]
00:14:33
[music]
00:15:42
leaf
00:15:46
[music]
00:16:02
braconid Watches him carefully
00:16:07
then calmly flies away
00:16:10
not
00:16:13
[music]
00:17:26
[music]
00:18:03
Now we see the egg
00:18:05
[music]
00:18:08
usually a female tubeweed lays
00:18:10
one egg on a leaf a yellow egg the size of a
00:18:13
grain but for reasons that are not entirely clear
00:18:16
it can lay three eggs on a leaf the
00:18:18
larva that emerges first will eat the
00:18:21
rest of the eggs
00:18:23
but now difficulties arise
00:18:27
[music]
00:19:56
not a newborn child
00:20:02
[music] the
00:20:04
larva grows by eating this leaf layer behind the
00:20:07
layer,
00:20:10
in essence, it grows on maternal
00:20:13
love
00:20:15
when it is filled with secretions,
00:20:17
it turns into a pupa
00:20:20
[music] the
00:20:34
smell of summer intensifies every day, all
00:20:38
living things continuously grow and multiply,
00:20:42
mushrooms emit their pores, thereby beginning the
00:20:46
reproduction cycle
00:20:47
[music]
00:20:51
To everything its own
00:20:54
[music]
00:21:09
[ music]
00:21:24
[music]
00:21:33
[music]
00:21:59
[music]
00:22:15
puppies
00:22:17
then begins her transformation into an
00:22:20
adult insect,
00:22:23
she begins to produce
00:22:25
silk to build her cocoon,
00:22:33
now she just has to wait for the
00:22:35
right time under the shell of her
00:22:37
cocoon,
00:22:45
most of the nests built by
00:22:48
the tubeweaver fall to the ground in time, but
00:22:51
sometimes they remain hang grow
00:22:55
[music]
00:23:01
[music]
00:23:28
[music]
00:23:40
[music]
00:24:00
the story of their lives
00:24:03
[music]
00:24:49
there are other subtle things in the forest
00:24:56
Small but sophisticated
00:24:58
survival strategies Truly amazing
00:25:05
yellow solid creature began to
00:25:08
move it is a chrysalis with free appendages
00:25:12
that can move
00:25:21
she found the right place
00:25:29
to get rid of her shell she is
00:25:32
risking her life
00:25:36
but soon she will come out whole
00:25:39
[music]
00:25:55
her front legs look like the legs of a
00:25:58
praying mantis
00:25:59
[music]
00:26:04
let's take a closer look at her
00:26:08
[music]
00:26:16
Her eyes and antennae also look like the eyes and
00:26:19
antennae of a praying mantis
00:26:21
This is a montispeed species that very similar to a
00:26:26
praying mantis
00:26:29
[music]
00:26:32
its front legs are similar to
00:26:34
agricultural scythes its
00:26:38
body length varies from 15 to 20 mm
00:26:42
it belongs to the order of the lacewings the
00:26:48
main bully in the insect world is the
00:26:50
praying mantis
00:26:53
[music]
00:26:58
with flat, agile front legs
00:27:01
similar to scythes with its large
00:27:04
eyes and with strong jaws this is a
00:27:07
born hunter
00:27:11
and there is a montispeed so similar to him
00:27:17
when two completely different species in
00:27:19
the process of evolution become similar
00:27:21
this is called convergent evolution
00:27:27
they evolved them in a
00:27:30
direction favorable for their survival but
00:27:32
no one knows exactly why
00:27:37
the mantispid survives
00:27:41
[music]
00:27:45
he even hunts almost like praying mantis
00:27:49
[music]
00:27:52
from the moment his prey falls into
00:27:55
his claws, which have teeth like a saw, his
00:27:58
song is sung by
00:28:01
the montyspeed patiently waits until the victim is
00:28:04
within reach,
00:28:05
then he quickly extends his front
00:28:08
legs to catch it
00:28:11
[music]
00:28:19
so he managed to catch the cricket pupa
00:28:22
[music]
00:28:25
and even the way he chews his prey, holding
00:28:29
it between his front paws, resembles a
00:28:31
praying mantis
00:28:33
[music]
00:28:42
it's night time
00:28:46
[music] the
00:28:56
birth of an insect begins with an egg,
00:29:02
these are tiny eggs, about the size of a
00:29:06
human hair follicle,
00:29:12
like other montispids, it lays
00:29:16
eggs on thin short and clean plant stems
00:29:21
she can lay from 300 to 600
00:29:27
in her life the female can lay up to
00:29:30
3000 eggs she lays so many eggs
00:29:34
because this game case
00:29:37
montispid larvae have little chance of
00:29:40
surviving
00:29:42
the story of the secret birth of Anti AIDS
00:29:45
began [music]
00:29:55
but here is a luxurious grave insects,
00:29:59
if you get caught in a web, it will be difficult to get out of it
00:30:04
[music] the
00:30:09
grasshopper's defensive technique is the jump; it can
00:30:13
jump at a distance that is multiples of the
00:30:15
length of its body;
00:30:18
however, this ability sometimes gets
00:30:20
it into a difficult situation; the
00:30:28
spider's ability to catch its prey is
00:30:31
amazing; the
00:30:33
prey is caught and it's time to eat
00:30:40
it The little spider decided to take advantage of the moment to
00:30:42
get closer, was
00:30:45
he trying to steal the prey of the
00:30:49
female spider,
00:30:52
she chases him away
00:31:00
and this is a male
00:31:03
trying to mate, he doesn’t look at all
00:31:06
like his potential partner, this
00:31:09
thing looks like two pupils, a
00:31:11
reproductive organ without it, he won’t
00:31:14
be able to reproduce his offspring 8
00:31:17
eyes
00:31:19
they are all located on his forehead
00:31:22
against the background of the male the female zerraguma spider
00:31:25
stands out
00:31:27
[music]
00:31:29
her rounded belly with intricate patterns
00:31:33
catches the eye
00:31:35
what looks like a navel is actually her
00:31:38
reproductive organ
00:31:43
[music]
00:31:46
now Early autumn is the mating season of
00:31:48
zeroguma spiders
00:31:51
[music ]
00:31:56
while the female is eating the male sneaks up on her carefully an
00:32:02
attack from the female can be
00:32:05
fatal there are
00:32:07
many eggs growing in the female's belly
00:32:11
that's why she is focused on eating
00:32:16
[music]
00:32:18
this male chose the right moment
00:32:22
But he still needs to be very
00:32:24
careful
00:32:29
he gives her a signal about his approaching
00:32:32
[music]
00:32:36
if the female does not react, it means she
00:32:39
agrees; the
00:32:43
male Bravo approaches her.
00:32:48
He lightly hits the female’s belly and
00:32:51
moves diligently,
00:32:58
and now he has successfully copulated;
00:33:02
he adds his Genes to the female’s eggs
00:33:06
[music]
00:33:08
the male, until and for this moment, lived
00:33:12
alone
00:33:13
[music ]
00:33:14
but suddenly an uninvited guest appeared,
00:33:21
another male begins to shake the web, the
00:33:26
female gave her consent
00:33:30
and he drives away the previous male
00:33:34
[music]
00:33:37
The female does not show any interest in
00:33:40
their fight, the
00:33:44
new male attempts
00:33:46
mating
00:33:54
and its result is death
00:34:04
due to the aggressive nature of the female
00:34:07
Jiraguma spider, many males die in exactly
00:34:09
the same way
00:34:11
but the male cannot control his
00:34:13
urges a
00:34:20
week has passed since the female
00:34:22
montispid laid her eggs the
00:34:25
eggs that were originally white
00:34:28
have changed greatly
00:34:30
their bodies have begun to take shape
00:34:36
their eyes have become much more noticeable
00:34:43
very soon they will begin to peck
00:35:00
[music]
00:35:03
many eggs are pecked at the same time
00:35:15
these are montispide larvae for
00:35:20
some time they stay together and
00:35:23
as soon as their temperature rises they
00:35:25
separate they go out into the big world
00:35:28
to live their lives
00:35:32
[music] the
00:35:38
larvae are looking for spiders
00:35:43
[music]
00:35:45
They are looking for spiders that are ready to
00:35:47
lay eggs or sacs with already
00:35:49
laid eggs of
00:35:54
this larva lucky she found the spider
00:35:57
almost immediately she shakes her head to
00:36:00
feel what is in her way
00:36:02
she Carefully searches for the web
00:36:05
as it contains information about the
00:36:08
Spider
00:36:09
[music] the
00:36:12
larvae have chosen this female zeragum
00:36:15
spidercat who has just mated
00:36:21
their survival depends on the eggs she is
00:36:24
preparing to lay
00:36:26
[music ]
00:36:32
what is this uninvited rider
00:36:35
[music]
00:36:38
this is a montispide larva exploring
00:36:41
the body of the spider,
00:36:45
fortunately She managed to dodge the spider's kick
00:36:52
But soon after that, the female spider still
00:36:55
brushed it off
00:37:01
to survive on the body of the spider the larvae need to
00:37:05
quickly find a safe place
00:37:08
The back is just the right place where
00:37:10
none of the eight legs of the spider can reach
00:37:13
[music]
00:37:16
in order to survive until the moment of laying eggs the
00:37:19
larvae need to become a spider as one whole,
00:37:25
while absorbing a small number of
00:37:27
sections so as not to be caught
00:37:31
[music]
00:37:44
autumn continues, an
00:37:49
empty web hangs everywhere
00:37:52
[music]
00:37:55
sitting on a tree a female jaro-guma spider
00:37:58
has left her web, apparently
00:38:01
some kind of change is happening
00:38:12
[music]
00:38:14
during the day she doesn’t even move, but with the
00:38:17
onset of night she begins to move quietly
00:38:21
she pulls the silk fiber to create a
00:38:24
soft surface
00:38:27
she builds a nest for her eggs
00:38:30
[music]
00:38:34
resembles a web with her legs
00:38:37
and walks back and forth along a zigzag
00:38:40
line,
00:38:42
she moves without a single pause
00:38:46
[music]
00:38:55
and now the nest that She has been building for about
00:38:58
three hours is finally ready
00:39:02
[music]
00:39:04
the most crucial moment of her life has arrived, the
00:39:09
female spider begins to lay eggs
00:39:14
[music]
00:39:21
she squeezes the eggs into a sac made of a thin
00:39:25
shell
00:39:27
and does this dozens of times
00:39:31
[music] the
00:39:34
female jiraguma spider lays
00:39:37
400 to 500 eggs at a time,
00:39:40
this takes half an hour
00:39:41
[music]
00:39:43
when her belly is deflated the clutch is finished
00:39:47
[music]
00:39:54
her belly is emptied and she is so exhausted
00:39:57
that she cannot move but she
00:40:00
continues to produce poutine to
00:40:02
cover the eggs the
00:40:06
female zerraguma spider lays eggs
00:40:09
between late October and mid-
00:40:11
November
00:40:12
[music]
00:40:16
To avoid predators she lays
00:40:19
eggs at night and therefore freezes
00:40:22
[music]
00:40:23
the cold binds her body so she
00:40:26
cannot move quickly
00:40:28
[music]
00:40:31
tribal cobweb with only legs she
00:40:34
covers the eggs layer by layer
00:40:37
[music] it
00:40:39
turns out as if the eggs are covered with a soft
00:40:42
white blanket
00:40:45
but on the mother’s body there is an Alien lurking
00:40:50
montispida larva
00:40:54
she was just waiting for this moment
00:40:58
and her goal The
00:41:01
spider eggs are clear
00:41:04
she is going straight to her goal
00:41:07
[music]
00:41:09
and the female spider does not notice anything, she
00:41:13
completely
00:41:18
[music] the
00:41:21
larva continues to go towards its goal,
00:41:26
her instinct of the parasite tells her that
00:41:29
she is already half done. She has done her job. The
00:41:32
female spider is running out of strength. But this is
00:41:37
not the end.
00:41:43
Early morning outside. Cool fog. The
00:41:49
ten-hour egg-laying procedure
00:41:51
is approaching. to the end
00:41:56
After she covered the nest with
00:41:58
leaves and shells of dead insects,
00:42:00
her maternal duty is fulfilled
00:42:03
[music]
00:42:06
even at this moment the montispid larva
00:42:09
continues its Invasion
00:42:12
[music]
00:42:25
what happens inside the sac
00:42:27
[music]
00:42:31
the world of the montispid larva
00:42:37
she holds the spider's egg with her sharp
00:42:39
mandibles the
00:42:43
coveted sac with eggs of the dzeraguma spider
00:42:47
[music]
00:42:50
It is not surprising that the larvae chose it as
00:42:52
their target;
00:42:54
more than ten larvae walk around inside the
00:42:57
sac with eggs,
00:43:01
they walk freely. And when
00:43:03
they get hungry, they grab the spider eggs with their
00:43:06
mandibles.
00:43:09
Then they absorb their contents;
00:43:13
their bodies have already become much fatter; the
00:43:17
spider’s nest has turned into a protected
00:43:20
feeder for montispid larvae that's why
00:43:23
they
00:43:27
It was last summer inside the
00:43:29
egg sac of the hunter spider there are quite a lot of
00:43:31
larvae
00:43:50
to become and the magician of each larva needs
00:43:53
a lot of nutrients
00:43:59
Therefore at some point all these eggs
00:44:02
can disappear the
00:44:08
larvae seem to instinctively know
00:44:11
their future
00:44:14
and then it begins
00:44:16
[music] a
00:44:19
fierce struggle for eggs
00:44:23
[music] the
00:44:28
mandibles they ate eggs are now
00:44:30
directed against their relatives
00:44:33
they literally eat each other
00:44:39
to ensure their survival they
00:44:41
eat the larva that eats more than
00:44:43
others
00:44:47
Some of them die as a result
00:44:55
in the nest of the jiraguma spider there
00:44:57
is no such commotion because there is a lot of food here
00:45:06
they successfully winter in the larval phase
00:45:14
in the world of insects autumn symbolizes
00:45:17
the end of a generation
00:45:21
[music]
00:45:28
[music] the
00:45:29
next generation sleeps under the snow
00:45:37
this winter also will not last forever
00:45:41
this is the nest of the diragum spider in the spring there
00:45:46
is no egg but instead there are large larvae it’s
00:45:51
true montispid larva
00:45:58
now she will turn into a pupa
00:46:01
[music]
00:46:04
time of difficult trials to become
00:46:08
who they are
00:46:14
Now they look completely different than
00:46:16
when they were larvae
00:46:24
now you can see their mother's face in them
00:46:34
3 days have passed
00:46:36
in the cocoon noticeable movement
00:46:45
their pointed mandibles have become similar on the
00:46:48
blade of scissors
00:46:52
in nature there is no such thing
00:46:55
as an easy birth an
00:46:58
incessant wait that began
00:47:00
inside the egg It’s not over yet
00:47:03
[music]
00:47:10
this most mysterious time in life
00:47:27
has been born A new generation
00:47:32
[music] A
00:47:37
cruel world in which they eat and become
00:47:40
eaten
00:47:43
options appear Only for those who
00:47:46
survived
00:47:48
their constant struggle to continue
00:47:51
their species is terrible But at the same time
00:47:54
beautiful The
00:47:57
desperate struggle between life and death
00:48:01
is nature
00:48:06
[music]
00:48:11
[music]
00:48:34
