to explain a bit more about her story00:00:36
her legacy and answer many questions00:00:39
that we had on the last video00:00:43

okay the first thing i'm going to tell00:00:51
you is you might hear some strange odd00:00:53
noises throughout this video we're just00:00:55
recording in our kitchen and there's00:00:57
animals everywhere cats and dogs so they00:01:00
might every now and then such as this00:01:02
and start making noises00:01:04
but that's where we are we welcome you00:01:06
to our animal secretary00:01:09
so on the very first point that i want00:01:11
to get across is a comment or a question00:01:13
that we had really often00:01:15
is00:01:16
why did we let00:01:19
her suffering that's how people were00:01:21
feeling that said how do we extend her00:01:23
suffering00:01:24
which really means00:01:26
why did we not immediately put her to00:01:28
sleep00:01:29
we call this the last cap last act of00:01:31
kindness and it's actually something we00:01:33
do quite regularly here00:01:34
because having horses on this island is00:01:37
incredibly expensive00:01:39
and quite often00:01:41
well the laws and regulations are not on00:01:43
the side of the horses but we will get00:01:45
onto this later but quite often horses00:01:48
do just get abandoned and they are00:01:51
they just come to us in this condition00:01:53
and so it is something we do such as00:01:55
previous horses like darth zingero maybe00:01:57
you've followed our story if not you can00:01:59

before but with dory00:02:03
it was a little bit different when she00:02:05
came to us we expected to i had all00:02:07
intention to go collect her bring her to00:02:09
us and let her leave this um leave this00:02:12
world peacefully and dignified however00:02:15
from the second she got off that trailer00:02:17
she was fighting she had so much fight00:02:20
and so much enthusiasm for life00:02:23
despite all of the suffering and the00:02:25
pain she was in she00:02:27
really00:02:28
was happy and i know that's going to00:02:30
seem like a hard thing to believe but00:02:32
i've been around horses long enough that00:02:35
sometimes you can just tell and she00:02:36
wanted a chance so we didn't make this00:02:39
decision lightly we worked with all the00:02:41
volunteers we spoke to the vets the best00:02:42
vets on the island00:02:44
and we made a decision that we will00:02:46
continue to give her a chance let her00:02:48
try as long as it was going in the right00:02:50
direction00:02:51
so this is exactly what we did we had an00:02:54
amazing team of volunteers and they00:02:56
stayed with her throughout the night00:02:58
through every hour she was not on her00:02:59
own for a second we tried everything we00:03:02
could with all different foods but00:03:04
ultimately00:03:06
in the end she could not get enough00:03:08
energy from her food from what she could00:03:10
get in and this is from years of her00:03:12
breaking um from her broken jaw you can00:03:15

but this this video is to explain not00:03:22
about her suffering but about how we can00:03:24
use her legacy fight to change and go00:03:27
forward so every animal that we rescue00:03:29
every case is totally different and we00:03:32
don't have a you know one answer fits00:03:34
all we will we will like i think we00:03:36
expected to take her to put her down00:03:38
immediately but we saw there was a00:03:40
chance00:03:41
will be a very very small chance and00:03:43
unfortunately it didn't pay off this00:03:44
time however we will look at every00:03:47
animal differently and we will work with00:03:49
any of the resources and all of the00:03:51
professionals we can00:03:53
to do the very best we can for each00:03:55
animal00:03:56
so another comment or a question that we00:03:58
got quite often00:03:59
was why did we not give her a drip why00:04:01
did we not tube feed her and a few00:04:03
different00:04:04
medical ideas00:04:06
and00:04:07
i would get to the point00:04:09
of why00:04:10
is00:04:11
long story short island life we are on a00:04:14
small island a small spanish island with00:04:16
limited resources we work as close as we00:04:19
can with the vets and they do everything00:04:20
they can however we don't have access to00:04:23
everything that you might find in in00:04:25
mainland spain even main countries back00:04:28
where i'm from in the uk what i'm ex00:04:30
used to and have experienced with horses00:04:32
in the past00:04:33
we can't do all of these things so we00:04:35
tried all of the options that were00:04:37
available to us00:04:38
and this is a problem not just for dory00:04:40
but so many of the rescues that we have00:04:43
so many have complicated things do you00:04:45
know at this moment00:04:47
we um on the island we cannot even test00:04:49
for ulcers00:04:50
and this is quite a regular thing that's00:04:52
coming up with our horses due to the way00:04:54
that horses are fed on this island00:04:56
and for example this is something we can00:04:58
try quite easily but here we can't so00:05:01
things we take for granted back home we00:05:03
can't always do here so we have to try00:05:05
our best we have to get resourceful and00:05:09
this might be00:05:10
different to what viewers00:05:13
certainly me where i learned everything00:05:14
before00:05:15
expect but we can only do what is00:05:18
available for us on the island so many00:05:20
of you watching this video or watching00:05:22
the previous video or any of our videos00:05:24
from our horse rescues would maybe be00:05:27
wondering why were the owners not00:05:28
charged00:05:30
why were they not reported um00:05:33
people say things like they should have00:05:35
this done to them or they should be00:05:39

in prison whatever00:05:41
yes i 100 agree however again this is00:05:45
this is what we have to deal with here00:05:47
this is island life we have to work00:05:49
around the laws here and the laws are00:05:52
not hugely in favor of the animals00:05:55
there is talk about this changing but00:05:57
this is a long topic and i can go into00:05:59
that on another video if you're00:06:00
interested00:06:01
but for now we can only do with what the00:06:04
law supports00:06:06
and if the horse has00:06:08
food has water and it has a shelter00:06:12
then there's not a huge00:06:14
lot we can do00:06:15
so00:06:16
yes it is incredibly painful and this is00:06:18
something we have to deal with every day00:06:21
we watch as the person who is doing this00:06:23
to these animals just continues to live00:06:26
their normal life they don't think00:06:28
anything of it they continue to go home00:06:30
have a cup of tea their00:06:32
animal has just been removed and taken00:06:33
away from them and it leaves people like00:06:35
us people like you who are donating00:06:38
towards this to make this possible all00:06:40
our volunteers who stay up day and night00:06:43
helping her00:06:44
leaves them suffering and then picking00:06:46
up the pieces and then even if we can't00:06:48
save these animals then it00:06:51
down to us to pay for for the um00:06:54
humane euthanasia for us for that last00:06:57
act of kindness each last act of00:06:59
kindness costs us around 600 euros i say00:07:02
us it costs you we rely on your00:07:04
donations so00:07:06
the whole system00:07:08
is not right but all we can do is00:07:10
continue to fight in the right direction00:07:13
so00:07:14
on that topic about the owners being00:07:16
charged and things like this and00:07:17
fighting for change00:07:20
it's i explained about this in the00:07:21
previous video and i can touch on it now00:07:24
it's quite often that they are not bad00:07:26
people the people that we rescue dory00:07:30
from or we've rescued previous animals00:07:31

it's not even that they're bad people00:07:34
and this is what makes it so difficult00:07:36
it's either ignorance or lack of00:07:38
education that's all they know00:07:40
and so often when we put pictures up of00:07:43
these animals all the stories up people00:07:45
just comment so many times saying owners00:07:47
must be charged owners must be charged00:07:49
report it report it and actually yes but00:07:53
we don't need to concentrate on this00:07:54
let's concentrate on what we can do00:07:56
that's not going to change anything this00:07:58
animal has already suffered and we're00:08:00
already going to change we've saved her00:08:02
we will continue to fight and save more00:08:04
but we need to fight00:08:06
for bigger change we can continue to00:08:08
rescue00:08:09
this one horse and change the life of00:08:11
that one horse but we want to change the00:08:13
life of horses and that has to be bigger00:08:16
we need to get bigger we need to create00:08:18
a voice for people to listen we need to00:08:20
create something00:08:22
to help with education so people know00:08:25
people only do what they know for00:08:27
example dory they did what they thought00:08:29
was right for her now i don't know why00:08:32
necessarily they thought that was right00:08:34
but this is what they learned she was in00:08:35
a clean stable she had clean water every00:08:38
day she even had new shoes on because00:08:40
they thought that's what they had to do00:08:42
to care for this animal00:08:44
so yes we can complain and say they need00:08:46
to be reported but that's going to do00:08:47
nothing we need to fight stronger to00:08:50
change the laws so we need to00:08:52
fight bigger get a bigger voice and00:08:53
people will listen this is why our00:08:55
future plans we intend to work with00:08:58
schools00:08:59
you know help to00:09:00
a future generation so they can learn00:09:03
animal welfare sustainable living this00:09:05
type of thing but again i'm touching on00:09:07
something which can be another video we00:09:09
can tell you more about our future plans00:09:11
but right now we want to concentrate on00:09:13
dory's story her legacy and how if we00:09:16
fight together if you follow our story00:09:18

stand united to fight for something00:09:30

grow together to we are stronger if we00:09:43
are together we might not have been here00:09:45

but we have already managed to change00:09:49
