Description:
Elvis Presley Jailhouse Rock Drum Cover. https://www.youtube.com/user/rhythmantic The song was written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller that first became a hit for Elvis Presley. The song was released as a 45rpm single on September 24, 1957, to coincide with the release of Presley's motion picture, Jailhouse Rock. The roots of "Rock n' Roll" and as John Lennon put it: "before Elvis there was nothing!" Didn't realize that Elvis' birthday was the day after I released this video. Used V-Drum Sal's Sonar kit setting. This rhythm is similar to The Beatles' Help, in that it could be played as either straight 8th or a swung dotted quarter w/16th note ride. At this tempo, if played with a swung feel, the swung 16th notes will straighten out & will sound like straight 8ths. Try using both with your band & see if the other musicians can tell the difference. It's a ride pattern that sits in between the cracks of being swung and straight. It originates out of New Orleans and is heard on the records of Little Richard and Chuck Berry as well as this song. You could go either way on this song: swung or straight or in between, the clue lies in what the guitar (1/8ths) and bass (1/4th notes) are playing. I played off of Scotty Moore's guitar and Bill Black's bass pattern which is straight. Therein lies the clue in how to play the ride.
