00:00:00
Go to the Render Setup to adjust animation settings in Corona.
00:00:04
Make sure, you have Corona Render set up.
00:00:06
`
00:00:07
Now, I will use the Active Time Segment option.
00:00:09
It is exactly the number of frames through which I have my camera animated, let me show
00:00:14
you.
00:00:16
Ok, so it takes 45 frames.
00:00:19
Now, I will go back to the first frame.
00:00:23
Next, make sure you have the correct output size set up.
00:00:27
Then, we need to choose the location where our frames will be saved.
00:00:31
Check the ‘Save File’ option and choose the location.
00:00:34
I always create a separate folder for each shot, we can call it ‘Shot_01’ for instance.
00:00:41
You can name it whatever you like.
00:00:44
I always choose the .exr format as it saves more information than .jpg for example.
00:00:50
16bits/Channel.
00:00:51
Ok, next go to the scene and you should set one of the limitations here.
00:00:56
Otherwise, the image will render until you stop it.
00:00:59
And you definitely don’t want to stop every frame manually in an animation!
00:01:04
So you can either choose pass limit, noise level limit, or time limit.
00:01:08
This time, I will set up a noise level limit.
00:01:11
Typically, I use 5% but this is not a rule.
00:01:14
It’s always best to test one of the frames first to know the best value.
00:01:19
Sometimes you will need less noise, other times higher value will be good enough.
00:01:23
Now, Denoising.
00:01:24
I always use Corona High Quality.
00:01:26
Similar situation with the Amount value, I will use 0.5 but it’s always better to test
00:01:32
it first as it will vary depending on the scene.
00:01:35
Remember that it’s not good to use too much denoising as you will lose too many details!
00:01:40
Ok, next go to the Performance tab as we need to set up the Global Illumination.
00:01:46
By default, it is Path Tracing for both Primary and Secondary Solver.
00:01:51
But for animations, as the time is crucial here, we will use UHD Cache as a Secondary
00:01:57
solver because it typically speeds up rendering.
00:02:00
Talking about render time, Rebus Farm is the sponsor of this video.
00:02:04
They are the render farm we use if we need to render quickly and don’t have time to
00:02:08
use our computers.
00:02:10
They are perfect for arch-viz artists because they support all the popular software.
00:02:13
But most importantly, they have all the plugins we need,
00:02:17
so there won’t be any unpleasant surprises.
00:02:19
They’ve created a software plugin, so everything can be set up in your application, 3ds max
00:02:25
in my case.
00:02:26
It checks the scene and automatically uploads it to the farm, and after rendering it’s
00:02:30
done,
00:02:31
it downloads everything to your local folder.
00:02:32
There are no hidden costs, you know how much you will pay for every render if you use their
00:02:37
cost estimation tool.
00:02:39
They are also great people!
00:02:41
They are always there for us if we need something.
00:02:43
They have 24/7 human support, and the best part is that this time
00:02:48
you can get 10% free RenderPoints on top of one purchase at RebusFarm when you use the
00:02:53
code ava10.
00:02:54
Please note it is limited to one purchase per person.
00:02:58
I will put the link to their website in the corner and in the description below, so you
00:03:02
can check them out and get your bonus render points.
00:03:05
Ok, let’s go back to the GI setting…
00:03:07
And now, we need to adjust the UHD Cache settings.
00:03:11
We need to change the preset to Animation (flicker-free).
00:03:14
Ok, now I will show you two methods depending on the scenario we have.
00:03:18
Up to this moment, everything is the same for both cases.
00:03:22
The first scenario is the safest option when we have an animation with moving lights or
00:03:27
objects.
00:03:28
In this method, we use settings as they are by default, so we use ‘Calculate from scratch’
00:03:34
for ‘precomputation’ and ‘Discard’ for ‘After render’.
00:03:38
Now, when using this mode, the cache will be always calculated independently for each
00:03:43
frame.
00:03:44
By the way, we can of course add Render Element in both scenarios if we want to.
00:03:49
Anyway, we can hit the Render button.
00:03:51
Ok, let’s focus on a few important things.
00:03:56
After the ‘Preparing geometry’ stage is finished, and Computing GI starts, we can
00:04:00
notice that the UHD cache precomputation begins to count up.
00:04:05
The stage took 9 seconds in this case.
00:04:07
What does it mean for us?
00:04:08
For this animation, we will spend almost 7 minutes just for the precomputation stage.
00:04:14
It may not sound a lot to you but imagine that 45 frames of this scene are just a part
00:04:19
of a whole animation!
00:04:20
And after that, the renderer is starting to the actual rendering of the image.
00:04:25
Why is it important?
00:04:26
Because we can save up lots of time if we only can reduce the time of precomputation.
00:04:32
Good news!
00:04:33
It’s possible.
00:04:34
And this is the second method!
00:04:35
By the way, during the rendering process, all the files will be saved in the selected
00:04:40
previously folder.
00:04:41
Now, the time for the second method that we use typically with the camera fly-through,
00:04:46
without any moving objects or lights.
00:04:48
This method is divided into two stages.
00:04:50
Firstly, we want to calculate UHD Cache just for the first frame and use the same file
00:04:56
later for others frames as well.
00:04:59
To do so, we need to change ‘After render’ to Save to file’.
00:05:03
And then, choose the correct location for the file.
00:05:07
Now, we can use the trick and change the time limit to 1 second, so the image will render
00:05:12
only for this short period of time.
00:05:14
And hit the render button!
00:05:18
Ok, so the UHD Cache is calculated now.
00:05:24
Ok, 1 second of rendering, and we’re going to the next frame.
00:05:29
We can cancel rendering as the file we wanted is already saved.
00:05:33
Let me show you.
00:05:35
Here it is!
00:05:36
We can delete this file as we need to render it from scratch.
00:05:40
And now, we’re going to the second stage.
00:05:43
Let’s go back to the previous settings, so let’s set the noise level limit to 5%.
00:05:49
Next, in the Performance Tab, change ‘Precomputation’ to ‘Load from file’.
00:05:57
We don’t have to change the path as it is the path to the file we saved previously.
00:06:03
And click the render button now!
00:06:09
You can notice that after preparing the scene, we have the rendering stage straight away,
00:06:13
the UHD cache precomputation is 0 sec.
00:06:17
Please note that you can try using the second method with the moving objects or lights as
00:06:21
in some cases it may perform well.
00:06:24
The first method is safer though.
00:06:26
Now, we need to wait for all the files to be rendered and ready to combine into one
00:06:31
video.

Also, watch my other videos on this topic, here are my suggestions.
00:06:39
Bye, bye!
