Description:
We're constantly told by experts to eat more fish - its fats and nutrients are good for our health. As of 2016, the most popular fish in Australia was salmon. We consumed almost 40,000 tonnes of it a year. But what do we know about how salmon is farmed, what the fish are fed and what the environmental impacts are? These issues have brought the industry to a flashpoint in Tasmania which has the biggest salmon farming area in Australia. Thousands of jobs in that state depend on salmon farming and its future relies on a 'clean green' image. But in this investigation, industry insiders and a trail of documents challenge that, questioning the use of chemicals, intensive farming and reveal a corporate culture far removed from the marketing image of a wild salmon leaping from a pristine river. No one from the Tasmanian Government or the state regulator would be interviewed for this program. You can find a series of statements from the government, industry, and others on our website here: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-10-31/big-fish/7972064 _________ Watch more Four Corners investigations here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLn2RjxYNpcayaQ5EBE9pp2axA418qJNqP You can also like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/abc4corners/%E2%80%8B%E2%80%8B Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/4corners And sign up for our newsletter: https://www.abc.net.au/news/programs/4corners _____________
