Der Anspruch sei somit der gleiche wie in den 70er Jahren. Sie würden heute ein breites Spektrum von „Unterstützungsleistungen“ beispielsweise für die Bundespolizei oder für das Bundeskriminalamt anbieten, erklärt Fuchs, etwa bei „Terrorismusverfahren“, „Rechts-Links-Extremismus“ oder im Bereich der „Organisierten Kriminalität“. Der bekannteste Einsatz der GSG 9 sei sicherlich die Befreiung der Geiseln des entführten Flugzeugs „Landshut“ im Herbst 1977, so Fuchs. „Ein wirklich großartiger Einsatzerfolg“, von dem sie bis heute profitieren würden. „Aber was mir auch wichtig ist: Eine GSG 9 kann im Jahr 2022 nicht auf diesen Einsatz reduziert werden, wir haben seit Gründung über 2000 Einsätze erfolgreich durchgeführt.“ In der Sendung #phoenixpersönlich spricht Michael Krons mit #JérômeFuchs über die Gründung der #GSG9, die Herausforderungen, vor denen die Spezialeinheit heute steht und die Kooperation mit Israel. „Wir haben heute einen sehr guten Draht, eine sehr enge Kooperation und Freundschaft mit Israel, mit der israelischen Spezialeinheit YAMAM“, sagt Jérôme Fuchs.
