little bit about what we use throughout00:01:15
our careers both coach and I but I want00:01:17
to go a little bit deeper into it and a00:01:19
little bit more of the how and the why00:01:20
and which configuration I would pick for00:01:24
which type of operation00:01:26
so in no particular order00:01:28
I've got a maritime loadout00:01:31
which is on the pants here00:01:34
and it's minimalist I have it directly00:01:38
onto a riggers belt which is looped onto00:01:40
the pants because I want to be a00:01:41
streamlined as thin as possible when00:01:43
working in a tight cramp conditions of00:01:45
ships gas and oil platforms Etc but00:01:48
there's some unique stuff on here okay00:01:50
some point basically the water wings you00:01:52
know these have CO2 canisters inside of00:01:53
them similar to any bb or pellet gun00:01:56
and you go ahead and just pull these00:01:58
actuators and they pop up underneath00:02:01
your armpits they're great to have when00:02:04
you're sinking under the tremendous00:02:05
weight of all your other equipment but I00:02:07
have them directly on the Belt they're00:02:09
not going anywhere so and so I decided I00:02:11
just put other stuff on the Belt as well00:02:13
because I'm only going to wear one belt00:02:14
if that makes sense I've got the blowout00:02:17
kit on here00:02:18
this one's actually empty I pulled the00:02:21
stuff out for range use if need be00:02:24
but it's ambidextrous you can get to it00:02:26
with both hands it comes out very easily00:02:28
highly recommend these types of blowout00:02:30
kits carriers00:02:32
I have a weapons retention hook00:02:37
for a primary weapon system I went ahead00:02:39
and just put that right on the Belt00:02:41
I've got a double mag pouch generally in00:02:44
the field I only carry two extra pistol00:02:46
mags if that because I plan on doing all00:02:48
my work with my primary weapon and if it00:02:51
gets down to it you know at least I've00:02:52
got something to work with as well as my00:02:55
buddies probably have mags as well00:02:57
and then the holster nothing fancy just00:03:00
a Safariland hooks right onto the belt00:03:02
old school and it's rigged for a light00:03:04
because in that environment you're going00:03:06
to run into dark cramped spaces it gets00:03:09
uh hard to see very quickly no matter00:03:11
what time of day or night it is00:03:13
and I just like having the on the belt00:03:16
system for maritime because again it00:03:19
keeps everything all my personal my00:03:20
water wings are strapped to my body00:03:22
they're there if I need them hopefully I00:03:24
don't but that's kind of the methodology00:03:27
behind it I'm not going to go with the00:03:28
big bat belt I don't want all that extra00:03:31
material weighing me down bulking me up00:03:33
Etc because you're hooking you're00:03:35
climbing you're you know it's it's a00:03:38
jungle gym out there you know there's no00:03:40
straight lines you got to be able to00:03:41
adapt you got to be able to get through00:03:43
buy with and through up and over things00:03:45
Etc and I just think it's a better way00:03:47
to do business when you're in that00:03:48
environment00:03:50

quick dry or whatever I got asked in the00:03:57

matter but as far as on a range belt I00:04:29
still want my medical gear this belt in00:04:31
particular is made by Ronin it was00:04:33
issued to me they come with these inner00:04:36
belts that go right on the pants just00:04:37
like a regular belt and I highly00:04:39
recommend them they're great they're00:04:41
really great they've got the Cobra belt00:04:43
buckle this one's a little bit older00:04:44
generation I've had it for a few years00:04:47
but00:04:48
for teaching purposes and I could get00:04:51
away with00:04:52
using this for more real world00:04:53
application I've got four mag pouches so00:04:56
that I can run you know lots of00:04:58
different mags empty mags you know a MAG00:05:00
with one round in them full mags etc for00:05:03
different drills doing demos and they00:05:06
are kind of a one size fits all we call00:05:08
them the tacos00:05:10
uh and that's great because Glock mags00:05:12
are a lot bigger than standard steel00:05:14
mags they're fatter because they're you00:05:16
know made out of plastic and then if00:05:17
you're running uh maybe an hk45 I would00:05:20

the holsters just clip in and out on the00:05:25
giant Fast Tax from Safariland these00:05:29
things are awesome this is a Glock 1900:05:30

but I could throw that hk45 ink called00:05:34
The Mark 24 I can run those larger mags00:05:36
I can run the Glock mags and that's00:05:38
really what I use this belt for00:05:40
um I did use it for end user purposes00:05:42
overseas but I kept it configured for00:05:46
the range teaching because I was doing a00:05:48

utilitarian purposes I don't always run00:06:42
that kind of stuff on the Belt but you00:06:44

2000s but back in those days I had to00:06:57
carry a lot of stuff so I just had these00:06:59

oftentimes I would keep my assaulter00:07:08
stuff on here flashbangs Etc because you00:07:11

little bit harder a little bit heavier00:07:20
on the Belt because well frankly I had00:07:23
to this one's got a triple mag pouch00:07:25
because I did use it for the range00:07:27
and it just kind of has an old school00:07:30

but you know I for kind of the end user00:07:38
you know on deployment you're you're00:07:39
inevitably gonna have to bring more00:07:41
stuff than maybe you trained with00:07:42
because it's just a requirement for00:07:44

accommodate that with extra cargo00:07:52

but this belt works great in that00:08:14

semi-permissive environment you're00:08:21

speak You're Just transporting people00:08:28
through hostile areas and you need to00:08:31

that borderline semi-permissive whatever00:09:07
environment maybe you don't want to have00:09:10
a ton of gear on you know maybe you're00:09:13
you know the rest of your mags your00:09:14
traditional second line gear that you00:09:16
carry on your torso is in a backpack in00:09:19
the vehicle00:09:20
or it's close by you know yeah you'll00:09:22
have your primary weapon system and00:09:23
maybe just having one extra magazine for00:09:25
that is a good idea to get back to you00:09:28
know the vehicle again it's all00:09:30
situation dependent if you are expecting00:09:33
contact or you know there's going to be00:09:35
a problem obviously you're going to be00:09:36
fully kitted up the whole time but I00:09:39
found myself in these probably not don't00:09:41
worry about it but still bring00:09:42
everything situations in the more recent00:09:46
Iraq and then other countries where00:09:49
there were00:09:50
conflicts going on but we were not 10000:09:54
engaged in a direct action Cape you know00:09:56
capability like say we were in Iraq or00:09:59
Afghanistan so in those situations I00:10:01
would run single mag pouches this is a00:10:04
762 for you know whatever battle rifle00:10:07
sniper rifle configuration00:10:09
that I would run because that was a job00:10:11
of mine and then this is just a standard00:10:12

in the wilderness there's a lot of00:10:30
terrain you're doing a lot of hiking I00:10:32
definitely wanted to have a minimal00:10:34
amount of equipment on my hips I hate00:10:37
having stuff on in my cargo pockets on00:10:40
my hips on my lower body because that's00:10:42
what I'm using to try to walk around and00:10:44
you already have all this other00:10:45
equipment a backpack full of God knows00:10:48
what maybe you're running a dual hat00:10:50
you've got your primary00:10:51
standard primary weapon system with a00:10:53
few mags and then you have your full00:10:54
sniper Suite 300 Win Mag or whatever it00:10:57
is in a backpack you don't want anything00:10:58
chafing or rubbing around so getting00:11:02
that stuff up high getting things off of00:11:05
your belt line off of your hips for me00:11:08
was huge because I mean I probably still00:11:11
have scarring from having to figure that00:11:13
out the hard way so anytime I don't need00:11:17
the full battle rattle the full regalia00:11:19
I'm not going to use it because it's00:11:22
uncomfortable and it wears you down and00:11:24
that's something you do not want to have00:11:25
happen knives00:11:28
you know sometimes I would run the fixed00:11:31
blades like for instance this one00:11:33
specifically tucked away inside the00:11:35
plate carrier I've talked about that00:11:37
before but other times I just run it on00:11:39
the Belt because I don't feel like I00:11:40
needed it that that fast or I wasn't00:11:43
running a traditional play carrier maybe00:11:44
I was running a low visibility play00:11:46
carrier for instance that's a good00:11:48
reason why I would have one of these on00:11:49
my belt because my chest rig that had00:11:51
the rest of my ammo Etc wasn't always on00:11:53
my person but this one in Lamb Warfare00:11:56
marops setting I would definitely run00:11:59
this is a Blackhawk sheath got a00:12:03
just a standard SEAL Pup you know00:12:06
everybody has one00:12:08
even Dave now00:12:10
and you know there's good little knives00:12:12
it's a generic sheath that fits any00:12:15
knife about that size and it's got a MAG00:12:17
pouch that I use for a Leatherman00:12:20
because00:12:22
if you don't have one you're going to00:12:23
need one and then you get fall into that00:12:25
tried and true predicament you know the00:12:27
old school of hey man who's got a00:12:29
Leatherman you know might as well be the00:12:31
guy and I would run that generally on my00:12:34
left side just right on the Belt like so00:12:37
if I wanted to put a shoelace or00:12:39
something through there to keep it down00:12:40
on my leg I would but honestly I hardly00:12:43
ever did that because it's just not00:12:45
something I was that worried about and00:12:46
then keeping your blade on your left00:12:48
support side for me is also a good idea00:12:51
because if you're repelling00:12:53
you know your Line's going off the00:12:55
strong side of your body your brake hand00:12:56
is over here you don't want to take a00:13:00
chance00:13:01
of the Rope burning through your whole00:13:03
your sheath and getting cut we have a00:13:07
video of a guy dying that way and it00:13:09
happened not long before I went through00:13:11
training so it was fresh in everybody's00:13:12
mind and it was just beat into me00:13:14
mandated to me from that moment forward00:13:16
going through initial training that I if00:13:19
I was going to have my knife all my00:13:20
person I would keep it on my left side00:13:22
for because you know you never know when00:13:24
you're going to be repelling it just00:13:25
kind of pops up from time to time00:13:27
and that's not something you want to be00:13:29
forgetting about00:13:30
so I did run both of these on the Belt00:13:33
like that off and on just depending on00:13:35
the situation where I was and what I00:13:37
thought I was going to need and then00:13:39
dump pouches you know dump pouches are00:13:40
great they're great for dumping mags00:13:42
into they're great for dumping00:13:44
um SSE or evidence intelligence that you00:13:47
find On Target just having one of these00:13:48
rolled up on the Belt it's great you00:13:51
know this is actually a fairly large one00:13:53
I use this one in training00:13:55
especially when using larger mags like00:13:57
762 and I would just go ahead and run00:13:59
this right on my pants00:14:01
um if need be or I could stick it on one00:14:03
of the gun belts but this was generally00:14:04
the one that I would run directly on my00:14:07
person on a traditional belt through the00:14:09
pants00:14:11
uh Hilo lanyards we talked about Gila00:14:14
lanyards in the past00:14:15
you know these things are very important00:14:17
and if you're going to run one you need00:14:19
a proper Anchor Point so a tactical belt00:14:22
that's actually designed to be used in00:14:24
real world operations is going to have00:14:26
an anchor Point here is one00:14:30
on the riggers belt right here this00:14:34
attachment piece you go ahead00:14:36
and you clip00:14:38
go ahead and clip this side of it right00:14:41
into the rigger's belt00:14:44
and then this large easier to use side00:14:46
is what you clip onto the aircraft or00:14:48
whatever it is this one is a lot harder00:14:51
to get off and in the event you fall00:14:54
you've got your body weight keeping this00:14:56
thing taut someone's laying over the top00:14:57
of it you can simply trace your body00:14:59
down find this and it pops right off00:15:03
and these are very very good they're00:15:05
very very effective life-saving00:15:07
equipment but if you can't trace down00:15:09
trace your body and get this thing off00:15:11
an emergency this life-saving equipment00:15:13
ends up being what kills you00:15:15
so it's important to have a good Anchor00:15:17
Point the Ronin belt00:15:20
has one right here I've got several of00:15:22
these belts they all have it and this is00:15:25
where I would attach it if need be if I00:15:26
was running a more traditional battle00:15:27
belt as they're called so moving on guys00:15:30

keep it with that minimalist idea you00:15:34
know I have this Blue Force Gear belt00:15:36
set up it's currently what I use it's00:15:39
kind of a Next Generation step up from00:15:41
the previous stuff it's got a pretty00:15:43
cool Inner Belt that can be wore right00:15:45
on the pants and it works great as a00:15:47
regular belt and I could attach this00:15:50
stuff onto it fairly easily it's not as00:15:52
thick robust and rigid as uh the old00:15:56
school ones and honestly this would work00:15:59
as well but I mean it's just a piece of00:16:00
velcro stitched onto a you know piece of00:16:03
fabric almost like a cargo strap this00:16:06
one's more of a purpose-built belt and I00:16:08
could run this with this stuff on it00:16:10
easily take it off and then attach you00:16:13
know the more purpose built you know00:16:16
again battle Bell bat belt whatever you00:16:17
want to call it and this one is uh00:16:20
pretty minimalist I've got the two mags00:16:22
I've got a very small dump pouch again00:16:24
my blowout kit and just the pistol with00:16:25
holster and that's it again this is00:16:29
designed to be streamlined not as00:16:31
streamlined as going directly onto the00:16:32
pants but you know we're splitting hairs00:16:34
here and the rest of my equipment will00:16:37
be in stepped away in Pockets or up in00:16:40
my primary play carrier kit or whatever00:16:42
configuration I'm running but again just00:16:45
different options for different types of00:16:46
operations it's important to not get00:16:49
too stuck on one thing you know there's00:16:52
a lot of different ways to do this and I00:16:53
was afforded the opportunity for many00:16:55
many years to explore and try things out00:16:57
and I like to switch it up you know00:16:59
especially if you're going to be wearing00:17:01
this stuff for prolonged periods of time00:17:03
you know if you're just going out to the00:17:04
range to have fun or to train hard for a00:17:07
few hours and you're focusing in on00:17:09
specific skill sets then yeah maybe00:17:11
going a little bit more deliberate maybe00:17:12
not being worried about bulk or excess00:17:15
weight is that big of a deal but man if00:17:18
you're going to be wearing this stuff00:17:19
for days on end weeks months at a time00:17:21
you know maybe you're doing a career in00:17:23
the trenches for years and years00:17:25
you know figuring out what exactly works00:17:27
for you your body type your mission your00:17:29
responsibilities on that mission is00:17:31
something that I think you should00:17:32
definitely00:17:33
think long and hard about because once00:17:35
you're out there you're out there and00:17:36
you've got what you got all right and00:17:38
then finally00:17:40
you know we have our actual like true00:17:42
love is loadout00:17:44
and you know obviously here in the00:17:46
states we have our everyday carry and00:17:49
that can vary and it should depending on00:17:51
what you're doing where you're going I00:17:53
tend to be very minimalist when it comes00:17:55
to this because I just don't go places00:17:57
where I feel like I'm going to need to00:17:59
do a bunch of Mag reloads or eat a00:18:01
full-size gun or carry a full blowout00:18:03
kit but you know I am prepared for that00:18:05
stuff I do keep things in my vehicle I00:18:07
am able to add and subtract00:18:09
in my everyday carry as needed so just00:18:13
for today this is similar to what I00:18:15
would even wear overseas I've been to00:18:17
some countries where you know we were00:18:19
not there to do anything kinetic or have00:18:22
a physical altercation type problem with00:18:25
enemy forces we were just you know there00:18:27
for whatever other reason and you would00:18:30
run as low Vis as humanly possible these00:18:32
places are often hot I've come to a00:18:35
realization uh during my career that00:18:37
angry people live in hot places the00:18:40
colder it gets the more mild and chill00:18:42
people are so generally speaking I00:18:44
wasn't carrying guns in cold places but00:18:46
that being said00:18:48
you know I've got a x macro here00:18:51
it's in the appendix configuration right00:18:54
now I really like these type of holsters00:18:56
this one's made by Vetter uh they're a00:18:58
big supporter of the channel and you can00:18:59
check them out in the description below00:19:00
but uh you know yeah this one's orange00:19:02
and honeycomb because you know I mean00:19:05
I'm here in the states and not that00:19:06
worried about it but it's a great00:19:07
holster00:19:08
and uh00:19:10
holds the gun firmly it's I like having00:19:12
the tight you know tough to get on tough00:19:15
to get off metal Clips you know in a00:19:17
panic situation you're going to be00:19:18
reaching this thing it's fast and hard00:19:20
as you ever have been or ever have in00:19:22
your life and it really makes a00:19:24
difference in those situations you know00:19:26
if you are carrying EDC I highly suggest00:19:28
get to the range and really put your00:19:31
equipment through the paces you know00:19:33
don't go too fast we don't want to00:19:35
create any dangerous situations but you00:19:38
definitely want to make sure your00:19:39
equipment works so by having this type00:19:41
of holster00:19:42
I can keep it up front in the appendix00:19:46
where it is much easier to conceal you00:19:49
know this isn't the smallest carry gun00:19:51
in the world but I can easily00:19:54
switch it over and put it back here at00:19:57
that 3 30 4 o'clock position which is00:19:59
where I generally prefer but being able00:20:02
to switch back and forth is great00:20:03
depending on the situation and I can do00:20:05
it on the go out in the field so to00:20:07
speak obviously not going anywhere00:20:10
without a blade for cutting apples and00:20:13
opening Amazon packages very important00:20:17
I also you know if we're going to step00:20:19
things up you know having a extra reload00:20:22
mag is something that I believe in00:20:25
damn near all stoppages are magazine00:20:29
related and you know just being able to00:20:31
switch out to a fresh one or maybe the00:20:34
situation surprised you and that00:20:36
lightning bolt of adrenaline causes you00:20:37
to maybe burn through that first mag a00:20:39
little more liberally than you normally00:20:40
would have you've got a freshie to00:20:43
reload get off Target and get safe I run00:20:46
the neomag00:20:48
these things are great they basically00:20:50
just they're a magnet that attaches to00:20:51
the magazine and it turns it into a00:20:53
pocket knife right there in your pocket00:20:55
I've run my ammunition facing my primary00:20:58
weapon holding side and I I generally00:21:02
just carry the one00:21:04
if um I'm going somewhere or doing00:21:06
something past or present and felt like00:21:09
we needed a little bit of Med gear and00:21:10
maybe a backpack wasn't an option then00:21:13
you just got to go with what you can get00:21:14
what you can fit00:21:16
so you know in these pants and I did00:21:17
wear these they're just like cool brown00:21:19
pants you know maybe they're tactical00:21:21
maybe they're not again it's all about00:21:23
that REI flavor when it comes to that00:21:25
type of mission set you know in these00:21:27
Pockets I could stick a tourniquet00:21:31
as well as a piece of combat gauze for00:21:35
wound packing you know just a little bit00:21:37
to buy a time before you get to a higher00:21:39
level of care you know like that other00:21:41
guy who does have the backpack with the00:21:42
real Med gear in it or maybe it's00:21:43
stashed in a vehicle or however it is00:21:45
you're running guys low visibility00:21:48
operations you know contact is planned00:21:51
for but it is not intended if that makes00:21:54
sense so you got to do more with less00:21:56
and hopefully um00:21:58
nothing bad happens so again this is00:22:01
